CHeck your bills because they do not know how to add, tax gratuity, and will tell you it's "not a big deal". This restaurant is also NOT KID FRIENDLY. We had to ask her for cutlery for the kids, whom they consider at their leisure to be a head count for their added 5-top automatic 20%gratuity ... $7 fries that wouldn't even feed one 3year old. Portions that our kids size, and I didn't even get to the two best parts.... Ketchup pad Thai that gives you heartburn, children sleeping with the jitters, and a household of tummy aches. So much for three entrees, an appetizer, and two side of fries for $124 for ketchup and heartburn. And to top it all off a hostess with the most attitude one has ever met. Which is bizarre because coming from someone who lived and spent time in Thailand, truly unbecoming from their culture... but I guess I was bound to meet my first rude Thai native here on Hilton head island in our very own Main Street plaza. Save your money, tummy, and sense and go to promise Thai by staples next to sea pines. Authentic, kind, delicious and kid friendly. Really excellent. Everyone in our party really enjoyed their meal. They're only doing outdoor dining so it was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. There was a heater right by our table, which those of us who sat on the heater side really appreciated! There was another party sitting by our section but they were far away enough so that we were appropriately socially distanced (but they were kind of loud so we heard all of their conversations pretty clearly lol). The waiter seemed like he was working and tending to the tables on his own, and he was so great! Really helpful and attentive, and we felt well taken care of. We ordered the Ruan's Thai Fried Rice, the Crispy Duck, and a few of the create-your-own dinners. Everything was very well done, flavored excellently, and plated beautifully and carefully. We forgot to specify how spicy we wanted our dishes, so we asked for a means to make our food spicier. The (excellent) waiter brought us back several options, one being this really, really good chili oil that gave us the kick we were looking for. What a delicious true Thai cuisine restaurant (I have travelled extensively in Thailand) "Ruan Thai" (translated Thai restaurant) Hut is. It has a great easy access location north Hilton Head Island. The service was spot-on, the appetizers and entrees were served hot and well timed. This was our first visit to Ruan Thai Hut and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. We ordered hot a tasty Golden Puff (crab pastries) and Egg Roll appetizers served with hot oil sauce. Our two hot entrees were Chicken Pad Thai and Ginger Beef Stir Fry. Both were wonderful. We also appreciated the 4 sauce table set that was presented with our dinner entrees. The Nam Prik and Thai chili sauces were fresh and excellent additions to our dinners. We had lunch at Ruan Thai Hut. We started with an order of Ruan Puffs of Gold - absolutely delicious. More crab than cream cheese. We ordered Pad Thai with Shrimp and Drunken Noodles with Chicken. The lunch specials come with a choice of spring roll or soup. We tried both. The spring roll was perfectly crispy, and the soup had unexpectedly rich flavor. Both were really good. The shrimp in the Pad Thai was cooked perfectly, and the noodles were great. Excellent simple choice. The drunken noodles were nice wide noodles with plenty of tender chicken and fresh veg. My Thai iced tea had a cute flower made out of the paper on the straw. Service was attentive and quick. The lunch menu provides great value. Highly recommend trying it. read more

Came here for dinner for the 4 of us. The restaurant is right off the road and there's ample parking. The service was good. The food overall was average. Some good and some below average. The pork satay was cooked well and had good flavor. The Tom yum soup was good. We asked for it to be spicy and it really was not. The Thai basil was really good. Tasted authentic with good basil flavor. The pad Thai was really disappointing. It was really sweet. The yellow curry was just ok. Again more sweet (even though we asked for it to be spicy). Being vegetarian on an island that is more popular for it's American fare and seafood, my family and I were so grateful to find an ethnic restaurant. I had called the week before to request a reservation and was told that they would gladly take one. I didn't end up making one because the weather was going to be bad the night of our dinner, but it ended up being clear. We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and the gentleman was kind enough to still seat us at a table of 8 without a reservation! They have high chairs and booster seats so that was very helpful. We got a beautiful table on the patio with a backdrop of trees and a water fountain. Service was slow due to limited staff, so keep that in mind if you're in a rush or extra hungry. The food was good. I am used to bolder flavors for my Thai food and found it a bit "water down", but it was still beautifully presented and very fresh. We did family style and ordered the veggie spring rolls (which my 4.5 yo and 9-month old loved equally), green, red and panang curry, pad thai, and the garden noodles which our kids also loved. I liked that the menu catered to everyone's needs - young and old and picky. The staff checked in when they could and overall my family and I had a nice evening. It was nice to relax and enjoy a meal together instead of being rushed like we normally are in big cities! read more

This place had been on my list of restaurants to visit while at Hilton Head for awhile. It was somewhat of a let down. Our food was pretty good but the service was slow (for a good reason). Wow found a great Thai restaurant on the island. Was craving some spicy food and this couldn't have been any better. Thai restaurants are known to be spicy foods. Luckily we got there right before they were closing and they accommodated us still. Great gesture. Our server the lady was amazing. She made the experience very joyful and pleasant while we were eating. Even though I am well versed with Thai food, she gave us her recommendations. Since it was nine of us we got bunch of appetizers which we all shared and then got our entrees including kids meals. Everything was perfect and to our taste and liking. If you're looking for authentic, this is the place to be. Inside the restaurant looks more like my uncle's house then a restaurant. Hopefully that's just due to COVID and they aren't serving in their dining room. Food is great though. Had the shrimp pad thai and the Thai ginger. Both great. We weren't sure what to expect based on the mixed reviews but we really enjoyed our meals. We ordered both as a 3 spice level and they had enough of a kick without overpowering. The fried rice with shrimp was excellent and wasn't too salty (a problem I've had with a lot of fried rice). I want to give a big shoutout to the waiter, Dante! He managed the indoor, outdoor, and take out service tonight all by himself with ease. Not only that, he maintained good customer service and was personable with each and every one of his customers that I saw -- giving recommendations and just making pleasant small talk. We have eaten here at least four times, always great. My Brother and SIL were visiting and we raved about Ruan Thai Hut. We had reservations for four on Thursday, Dec 15. It took quite a while to get menus, it took even longer to get the wine list. Why? Because the waitress was too busy on the phone taking take-out orders, and helping take-out customers. We joked that when she comes to the table, we better order quick, or we might not get another chance. We finally ordered although she was not very attentive. She was very distracted. Nothing that came out of the kitchen tasted like it had before. Different kitchen staff?? My Mom's Pad Thai was mush. My Chicken Basil was not chicken basil, or at least not anything I have ever had there or elsewhere. My guests said their meals were Flavorless. We left very disappointed, and me apologizing. We traveled an hour to get there, spent close to two hours there because of the service. My four stars are is for past experiences, not the horrible experience we had on Thursday. I suggest the restaurant get a dedicated person for just carry-outs and leave the other waitress to handle people who actually showed up to eat. We considered leaving after 15-20 minutes watching take-outs and orders coming in and looking back I wish we had. read more

This place is the real deal. The dishes are made to order. The ingredients are fresh. The ambiance is peaceful. I'm a fan. Being vegan it's also easy to eat here. Amazing experience. The ambience is perfect to relax. Due to covid, outside seating. It was nicely decorated with lights, plastic covers to keep the cold put but still allowing fresh air to come in and they brought heaters. The staff are very polite and attentive. The food is delicious and many options. They have meat, tofu and vegetables. vegetarian friendly. To start we got vegetable spring rolls. They were the best ones we have had in a long time. Very crisp, hot and perfect with the sweet sauce. I ordered thai ginger with vegetables, my husband ordered sammies sizzling beef and it was very sizzling . For dessert fried coconut ice cream. This place is amazing and not to be confused with "Ruan Thai" on the island! We ordered chicken masaman and chicken drunken noodles. Both phenomenal. The chicken masaman was super flavorful and had carrots, potato, and cashew pieces in it that really added to the dish! The drunken noodles were excellent. Some of the best I've ever had! The flavors were excellent, service was very friendly and more than accommodating, and the lunch pricing is a steal! Each meal came with a spring roll or soup option, even to go.
