Our family of 5 were all set to dine at this place. We are a family with food allergies, so after we determined that the menu was safe we noticed that the special had a potential allergen issue. When we checked with the hostess and stated that we had a question about a special, she smirked. When I then asked about the ingredients, she responded with "i don't think it contains such and such". I then asked if she could check and her response was " ask the bartender". Sorry Captain Woody's. Your inadequately trained hostess cost you a table of five in your empty establishment. read more

This was our second visit here and our first yelp for Woody's. The place is really nice and has a great vibe to it. Indoor and outdoor area along with an outdoor upstairs bar. The place was pretty packed so we ate outside. The weather has been super hot and regardless of the fans that they had out there blowing hot air which made it seem worst we stuck it out for the food. But we left as soon as possible. Better fans or blowers should be on the top of the list to purchase. We left sweaty but our bellies were happy! I had the shrimp chili. What a great bowl of chili. Different but full of bold flavors. I will have this again! I paired it up with a shrimp po boy. I was going for a New Orleans theme dinner meal. The sandwich was ok, no round 2 for me. Best hush puppies I've ever had, hands down. The place was packed but we were seated almost immediately. Had we walked in a few minutes later, we would have had about a 30 minute wait (for 2, on a Thursday night). The menu is as a packed as the venue. There's something on there for almost anyone. I'd never had trigger fish before and I figured this is as good a place as any to try it and I was rewarded with an awesome meal. The homemade hot sauce with the Old Bay flavor was amazing! I put it on everything on my plate. The service was really fast, which I appreciated! We were too exhausted to go upstairs to the check out rooftop bar but it looked jumping from what we saw outside. I am generally a very easy going kind of guy. Not much bothers me. One thing I am intolerant of at restaurants is poor service. I know the server isn't cooking my food, so if my chicken comes out looking and tasting like a half a Keds shoe, that isn't the servers fault; its the cooks fault. But if you, as a server, don't keep my water glass full at a minimum, I'm not a happy camper. In essence, your only duties are to inform me of the menu items, keep my water glass full, and bring my food and extraneous items to me in a timely manner. Unfortunately, our server on the Friday after Thanksgiving wasn't very good. We sat outside in the heated, enclosed patio, and it was definitely heated. HOT! We were a party of six and were seated immediately. W looked over the menu and placed our orders. I ordered a chicken melt with fries. The food arrived and it looked good. The sandwich was a little dry so I requested some bbq sauce to assist the masticated poultry on it's journey into the gastrointestinal unknown. The server brought out a hefty little container of bbq sauce, of which I used about 10%. The food was really tasty and I enjoyed everything. However, when we received the bill, I was charged $.50 for the bbq sauce and my dad was charged $.50 for a side of bleu cheese. As a server, it is your duty to inform me that extra condiments, an item doled out free of charge at 99% of restaurants nationwide, are an extra charge. Much as you would be obligated to inform me that you charge $.50 for a glass of water or for extra napkins. We were not informed of this additional compensatory necessity. Homey don't play that! Needless to say, I stiffed the server for withholding this valuable information. Had I known the sauce was extra, I would have declined. MANAGEMENT: you need to inform customers of your nickel and dime policy so that we can deny extra condiments due to the ridiculous fee. read more

Date night with wife decided to travel To capn Woodys in Bluffton. What an underwhelming meal experience. We started with the dried pickles, good but not up to par and the dressing was tasteless. I had a half dozen oysters on the half shel. They were small and not one out of the 6 were not shucked all the way! Next the wife had the fish and chips. The cod was ok but the breading reminded us as Van de Kamps from the grocery store Gf Dept. My entree was the seafood trio. Rather tasteless topping over the shrimp, scallops and fish. We had a decent lunch at Captain Woody's. Started off by eating some peel and eat shrimp, which were good. I had the fried oyster po boy, while Kris had a salad. We both liked what we had. Woody's also has some UK mementos hanging on the walls, and a "Go Big Blue" drink which made this alum proud. As for beers, with no taps to speak of we found the New Belgium Fat Tire to be the best of the lot. C'mon Woodrow, get some taps please. Good service, good food and good beers. Sit either inside, Upstairs, or my preference, the Cool, Screened in Porch. Their Oysters are Fresh, Plump and Juicy! Their Fried Seafood Triple Play Combo is my Choice. The sauce is amazing. Fried shrimp drizzled with a ponzu sauce. Perfect match. Def recommend. I got the fried triggerfish Ruben on a hoagie roll instead of rye bread. And my god! Captain Woodys on the island is a much different environment that the DT bluffton location . First off what was confusing was WOODy's pet policy. Captain Woodys on the island absolutely welcomes all dogs. Your pet policies need to be the same at both restaurants. Captain Woodys in Bluffton has a outdoor upstairs bar which does not allow dogs but it outside . I brought this to the attention of a manager at Captain Woody's on the island and he advised me that dogs were permitted upstairs in bluffton as long as you walk them through the bar area. I did this and was asked to leave. read more

Came here with family on a Monday. It was super crowded, but it was dinner time. Our waitress was nice. She did mess up one of the salad orders but she comped the salad for us, so we appreciated that.
