My favorite bar in Ohio, always welcoming, great breakfast. The fried cheese curds are like none other, extra crispy and extra melty.

After a morning of hiking for 3hrs we stopped into Captain's Corner. Honestly, we had low expectations as it was lunchtime and the place was empty, but we were pleasantly surprised once the food came out. We ordered a Caesar salad w shrimp, (fried) chicken bites, and tater barrels to split, and were surprised how fresh everything tasted, as bar food isn't particularly known for that. We devoured everything and were particularly in love with the tater barrels!!! The waitress did say that they're not made in house, but come from Gordon Food Service, but we didn't care. They were a much need fried carb after loads of hiking. We'd definitely go back; fun spot, and had outdoor seating too! Also, yes, we ARE going to GFS to see about those tater barrels! Lol read more

Nice place right close to the ferry. They have plenty of seating including a large bar. We ordered drinks and the table of six shared two smaller plates. The food was delicious as the plate had hummus, pita, grape leaves, gyro meat, tzatziki dip, cucumber slices and spanakopita. What a great lunch. Servers were friendly and stopped by often. Captains Corner was one of our favorite places to eat during a recent visit to Kelleys Island. We had dinner on our first night and later returned for breakfast. The breakfast was solid, but I think I enjoyed the dinner more. I love a good buffalo chicken sandwich, and theirs was really good. A buttermilk fried chicken breast tossed in Buffalo sauce, topped with bleu cheese crumbles, lettuce, tomato, and onion served on a toasted bun ($12.99). The sauce was just spicy enough and I always enjoy having fresh bleu cheese crumbles on the sandwich! My wife enjoyed the cranberry pecan salad ($12.99 add chicken for $3). This combined fresh mixed greens, dried cranberries, crushed pecans, red onion, and feta cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette. The chicken was a nice addition, though probably not necessary for this tasty salad. Large chunks of feta added a nice creamy flavor to compliment the sweet flavors of the cranberry and raspberry dressing. Truthfully there aren't a ton of options on Kelleys Island, but Captains Corner was among the best we experienced. read more

Brought the last ferry over on Sunday - CC was open and even though they were getting ready to shut down the kitchen, the waitress was very accommodating and pleasant. The food was delicious- I had the Gyro and fries and it was delicious, hot and prompt. This is a local establishment and the ambience was welcoming and made the experience very pleasant! read more

A nice little restaurant on the corner in downtown Kelly's island. I got the Mediterranean platter it was really tasty! The grape leaves were exceptionally good. The Tzatziki sauce was amazing.! We have come to Kelley's for years (back when this was a Winking Lizard!) and the past few years for some reason we haven't stopped in. We were just back up and wow, are we glad we did! The best meal we have had on the island... so much so that we went back the next day! The Mediterranean platter is INSANE. It is huge! You practically get an entire block of feta cheese. We could have shared it for a meal. The perch was great too, and the drinks cheap! Glad we thought to stop in, cause it will probably be a go-to on our visits. We ate here a total of three times on our trip. The first time we had dinner and it was pretty good. We had simple stuff like fish, a pecan cranberry salad with chicken, and a burger. Truthfully it was all mediocre but it was good. Prices are reasonable and the service was very good. I would recommend this place but not as a fancy dinner by all means. read more

The story is a sad one. We were on vacation on Kelley's and had a great time. On our last day there we ate at Captains Corner. The food was perfectly good as was the service. But we found out when we got home that our charge for the meal was charged to our account twice. Pre-tip and post-tip. We called and they said they would look into and get back to us. They did not. After several calls and non-responsiveness, they just blew us off. It was very clear and the first person we talked to said it was indeed very clear what happened. Not a complex fix. We finally reversed it through VISA. what a shame they care so little about integrity. Eat there if you wish but don't hand them your credit card. UPDATE - owner finally contacted us after we got VISA charge reversed by VISA and seemed genuinely sorry - this update adds three stars. read more

We went twice during our visit. We camped at the Kelleys Island State Park and came into the "downtown" area for dinner and breakfast. For dinner, she ordered perch basket and he had Tuna appetizer and Pecan Salad. The food was good but not spectacular. Service was attentive and friendly. Their prices were in line with Kelleys Island. The following morning we had breakfast on our way out of town. Both had the biscuits and gravy. It was OK, a bit heavy and the biscuits were a bit on the dry side. Overall both visits were pleasant, aided by the attentive and friendly staff. read more

Well, the other reviews are not far off. I picked the place as it seemed fairly modern and new - i.e, clean. However, that's the first mistake of dining, and I knew it. It's not a large place, but adequate seating is available. The staff seemed bothered to be servicing customers, which was what I perceived to be their main focus. As a lover of Coca Cola, and the fact that it was 90 degrees in the shade, I ordered a Coke as my beverage of choice. Well, the ice cold beverage arrived before my meal - which is great, but I was asked if I wanted a refill when she brought the check.... I could understand if the place was packed, but it wasn't and there were several young wait staff working. The food is decent, but nothing to get excited about. It's clearly GFS, as my daughters applesauce cup was branded GFS - tip: if it was my place, I'd take the applesauce out and place in a bowl, but whatever. Kind of matches with the comment about lazy staff. There are TV's, clean restrooms, and A/C. They lack free wifi (which should be a given). If your in town, check the other locations first - based on their reviews, I think you'll be happier and your wallet fatter. read more

We stopped in during a trip to Kelly's Island and they were conveniently right "downtown". It was during the week so it wasn't too busy. We were greeted immediately after stopping in and ordered some food. I ordered the perch sandwich and chips, my fiancé ordered their special of the day, grilled cheese with bacon and chips. The food came out pretty fast and hot. The perch sandwich had 3 filets and tasted great. I really liked the potato chips too: not just regular potato chips from a bag but thicker potato chips. Not sure if they are made on site but they tasted homemade. It was a nice change up from French fries you usually get at restaurants. The grilled cheese with bacon was exactly how it sounds: excellent. Overall, we had a nice experience for lunch. Great place to sit in some A/C on the Island. Also, great gyros and salads and other real food that's not just fried perch and cod. Mediterranean/Greek food for the most part. They also have Tuna, Sirloins, and for dessert, a fantastic Key Lime Pie. (Not your typical island grub) They've got 6-8 draft beers which is kinda a big deal on Kelleys. Great people watching view on the corner 'downtown' whether you're inside looking out the walls of windows or enjoying your beverage in one of the 5 chairs out front. The food was good (not great). One friend had the perch (he enjoyed), another the captain's club and I had the chicken gyro. None of us were blown away by the food, it was pretty average. The service was good and it wasn't crowded on a Wednesday at noon. We did really enjoy the view (lake view and great people watching). Mind you I was the only person sitting at the bar. Recently there during island fest . Was unimpressed with the food and service. Understandably the price are inflated since you're on an island and its touristy but that's not a reason to charge $6.99 for a hummus plate with 6-8 baby carrots and 6-8 1 inch by 2 inch pita corners. My friends were also not a fan of the grilled chicken breast which was either pounded flat or just naturally tiny. I agree with the below reviewer about the GFS food. Got the same meal, perch and perogies. Then watched through the window as the cook emptied my bag of frozen perch into the fryer. Our waitress obviously forgot to place our order because the two tables that came in after us got their orders between 5-10 minutes before us. The atmosphere was okay I guess. Nothing special. Certainly not worth the amount of money they charge. Go find a grill at the state park and grill up some burgers. Much tastier and certainly cheaper. read more

Stopped in for a drink with my wife while on the island. Pretty empty since it was in the middle of the week during the afternoon. Anyways, it took 20 minutes to get the bill because the waitress was busy with four local ladies playing the lottery. Not sure why this eatery and bar does the lottery when there's two store/markets 100 feet away, but whatever. Maybe its me, but it just seemed odd. Cant comment on the food as we didnt eat anything. If you ever wondered if GFS can deliver prepared and processed food to the island, then the answer is yes. High prices for the food you get. Stopped in for perch and pierogies for $16.99. Got 4 small pieces of fish (I know perch is small, but it still felt small for the price) and store bought pierogies. It was all well prepared, but felt disingenuous. Nice atmosphere for drinks, but you would be better off eating elsewhere. read more

I personally loved Captains Corner. The waiters were nice, the food was delicious, and has a good view of Lake Erie depending on where you're sitting. I think people should definitely go to Captains Corner if they happen to stop by at Kelleys Island. read more
