4 of us went to lunch on this very rainy day and wow was it ever good! We started with the ahi tacos...so delicious! I did request an additional taco since it came with 3. Very accommodating :) Then, all 4 of us opted for the lobster roll....sooooo good! It came with delicious fries both reg & sweet potato mixed and they were perfectly crunchy and yummy! My wife and I wanted to stop in before we left the area. Happy to say this place has not skipped a beat. Totally awesome cocktails, delicious food, and superb service! We started with cocktails while munching on their complimentary chips and salsa. My smoked Manhattan was a delicious work of art! We opted for the Smoked Queso while reviewing the menu. I decided on their Walleye Fillet and my wife, their classic burger without bun. Our meals came out perfectly within a reasonable time frame to allow me a chance to enjoy a Boulevardier as well! We were so lucky to have stumbled on JJ's! The craft cocktails were perfection. I tried the blood orange jalapeño margarita (2 of them!) and my husband ...and I... tried the pineapple upside-down mimosa and some kind of rum drink I can't remember the name of. All amazing! Shrimp the size of a small lobster in the shrimp cocktail, and every bit as tender and delicious. Followed by fresh, filling, and not at all bready walleye cakes and topped off with mushroom truffle risotto that was the best we've ever had. The staff and mixologist were super friendly and helpful, and made the food recommendations we loved! We live almost two hours away and agreed we'll make the trip whenever we can! From the outside honestly this place doesn't look like much. However, don't let the outside fool you! We stopped here on our way home from Kelley's Island and we will definitely stop here again next time we are up in the area! Absolutely loved our waitress. I wish I could remember her name. The food here is amazing! And huge portions too! I had the walleye with rice and brussel sprouts and my other half had a grilled chicken sandwich with mixed fries. The thing that really stood out to me was how this place with kind of pricey food was that it was in the middle of nowhere. I found it on yelp and I was like I need seafood. We walked in and they accommodated us right away, very nice and the place was really cute. It was like a classy bar inside and then we ate on the "inside patio" you can actually sit outside too. So plenty of room. The food was good nothing crazy, I was very happy because they were able to substitute for mashed potatoes and they usually don't but it doesn't hurt to ask lol I just wish I was able to try the ahi tuna that I saw on yelp. But overall I would come here again and this time get a cute little drink:) read more

So, another hero to zero, this time in the same season. We decided to post-game at JJ after a great dinner elsewhere. The parking lot was decently crowded, so we walked in with our guests after bragging about the place ad nauseum all night. We saw a friend sitting at the bar, and after greetings we went to take our place at the bar and were rudely snapped at by the blondish bartender, in front of Phil the chef. "It's after ten, guys. We're closed.' It was all in the tone, believe me. OPEN sign was on, door was unlocked and there were at least 20 people still in the restaurant. Our friends were stunned. I turned to Phil and said, 'Is she joking?' I really thought she was. He looked down at his phone. Wouldn't meet my eyes. So we left. C'est la vie. Look. I don't want to be treated differently than anyone else but I do insist I be treated with respect, the very same I have given this woman every time we go in. The friend we greeted when we came in? Said their party remained at the bar at least another hour. They agreed the treatment was not my imagination. Needless to say we won't be back. read more

What a treat! We had the guac, the Mexican street corn and the peanut butter bacon Jam burger! Yum, yum. It was all so tasty. Great margaritas and incredible bourbon selection for the serious bourbon drinker. Who would have known? The service was excellent. They bring you chips and 3 salsas! The chips are amazing. They have a dusting of powder on them that kinda reminded me of Doritos- but better. We ordered the mezcal Queso- it was amazing Hubs had poke bowl. It had a lot of rice and a little tuna but was very tasty Hubs had a House Manhattan. He said it was a solid Manhattan. I had a Naked and Famous. It was good as well. The menu tells you how "boozy" the drinks all are We also shared a walleye sandwich. The sandwich was really good. We came here for dinner. When we arrive at 6pm, not much people there, but with time, this place filled up pretty quickly. Seems it's a local favorite. We ordered walleye fish and my husband get Cesar salad with tuna. My fish is great! Tasty and fresh. Husband said their salad and tuna is also very good. A solid 5 star. Disappointing experience on a Father's Day. We arrived acknowledging the fact that it would likely be busy due to the holiday. We appeared to have timed our arrival right. The hostess said it would be about ten minutes and there was no one ahead of our three person party. Another group came in behind us and were told it would be thirty min. They went outside to wait, one in their party came back in and complained about the wait and they wound up getting seated right in front of us. We waited about 5 more minutes. In all, we waited about fifteen minutes with my 76yo dad sitting at the bar and never being approached regarding a drink while we waited. We then just left, knowing we'd been slighted. This was the second time in a couple years trying to eat at this place and it didn't work out either time due to similar circumstances. I still don't know how the food is. It looks like they have a great bourbon selection but again, wasn't given the opportunity to try it. I miss this place being the Peninsula where for decades we shared great breakfasts here with servers who took care of you and you could expect consistent service for all. I don't plan on giving them a chance for a third strike. read more

The menu includes a good variety of items and is somewhat reasonably priced. What makes the items pricey is that they skimp on the proteins. The fish taco dinner entree comes with 3 tacos but only enough fish for 2 tacos. The shrimp bowl comes with only 4 grilled shrimp and a butt load of rice. 4.5 stars. Last time I was here they weren't serving lunch so I waited an hour (was coming back from Kelley's Island) and the owner came out and told me they were having a private party. Bummer. Not his fault but I have been wanting to try it ever since. Our server was attentive and took her time with us even though they appeared to be somewhat busy (and it might be bike week or something). My burger was as good as advertised and my gf loved the scallops. The chips and salsas are a nice touch, as well. The hostess was so friendly and polite and so much of a 180 from the flat affect that you get in so many restaurants. We didn't have room for dessert but will try it next time we visit. Awesome food! We got the birria tacos, and tuna burger. The birria tacos were like if a chef looked at a picture of the dish in a magazine and guessed how it was made... but really missed the mark. The consume was more like canned gravy, the tacos were dry and stale, same with the chicken meat . I made the mistake of not reading the fine print about uncooked and undercooked meat for my tuna burger, and realized all too late that it was just a raw piece of tuna in between two buns with some coleslaw and sauce, not what I expected. read more

Shrimp ajillo was just ok and we were going to settle for the walleye but we were offered the special of the day the snapper. We enjoyed our dinner here. They were prepared for Covid with separations between tables and employees seating both masks and face shields. We liked the cocktail menu. I had the Jake or o pineapple margarita which was tasty. The chips and salsa sampler were fresh. We ordered the guac which was delicious.
