Update! Haven't been here in a few yrs. Not because we didn't want to but we aren't in Mansfield too often. Mostly driving past Mansfield. So we rediscovered this place for lunch. Knew it was the same place as soon as we saw it. Walked in to a warm welcome. Sat in the back room this time. Front room was filled. Christina helped us. She was very informative and helped us decide what we wanted. Got 2 cups of the lemon chicken soup. I can't pronounce the Greek name so it's the lemon chicken soup. Outstanding lots of chicken, rice and carrots. Then we got the fancy Greek salad. It comes on a good size plate and covers the plate. The Greek dressing is homemade and delicious. Chunks of feta in it. Honestly could only eat half. The potato salad on it was good. All the ingredients fresh. Can't go wrong. Christina told us about the other menu items too. Everything is homemade and made with love. It's a family business with kids and relatives involved. We did get a baklava for dessert to split cuz well we had too. Prices are good. Better than on-line. Roomier than it looks. Greek decor with the pics. Great place! Eat here! Homemade Greek food by a Greek family! What else can you ask for! Delicious! Just wish I lived closer. Wow, so cool to find a great authentic Greek restaurant on our trip through Ohio. Let's start with the staff. We walked in and were greeted right away and told we could pick a seat anywhere in the store. We decided to sit in the back of the restaurant where we were greeted by Sam. We needed up having 2 gyros, 1 spanakopita and 1 tiropita the food was delicious , fresh and didn't take long to get it. Sam did a great job checking in on us and we got to meet the owner George who came to chat us about how our experience was and if everything was to our satisfaction. Classic Greek diner food and ambience with a good assortment (including vegetarian options, which are not a given in Mansfield!)...BUT THE CHEESE PIE. I don't know what magic they work on it, but it even by the standard of fried cheese being generally delicious, it is amazing. Gyros, spreads, kabobs - they're all great. I am so very glad we found this on Yelp! My hubby and I went for lunch. We ordered the Mezethes Platter. Basically, everything they have! It was amazing! This is a gem and quite surprising how good the food is. I just didn't expect the level of spices and herbs. There's Greek food, and then there's Greek food that tastes like your grandmother made it. What a fabulous place! Staff were so welcoming and friendly. All the food was tasty (wish I took pictures of other's plates) and flavorful. We're from the Columbus area and were meeting a friend from Cleveland area. We picked Mansfield as kind of a central location and our friend had been to the Athena Greek Restaurant before and recommended it. I love Greek food and have several fovorite Greek restaurants in the Columbus area so I was interested in trying a new restaurant. The Athena is highly rated on Yelp (5 stars) so I was looking forward to lunch at the Athena. The menu is a bit more limited than some of the other Greek restaurants I've tried but they do an excellent job of preparing what they do have on the menu. Personally, I had the gyro and fries and they did not disappoint me. It was an excellent gyro and the fries were very good. Service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. read more

I grew up in Mansfield and have been going to the Athens since I was little. We moved away years ago, but this is somewhere we get back to anytime we're in the area. I love Greek food and I think it's because I had such a great first introduction here. Comparing the Athens to other Greek restaurants, in state and out, they are just sooo good! The spanakopita is amazing and better than most I've tried anywhere else. The food is always quick and they are just as busy with carry out as their dine in. The dining room hasn't changed, completely unaffected by time. It's the same blue leather booths they've always had and it feels nostalgic, not out of date. We usually take a tray of the baklava home with us so that we can enjoy it after our visit is over. A true Mansfield gem. If you live in the area and haven't tried it... shame! We were on a road trip and stopped at Athena Greek Restaurant after seeing the great Yelp reviews--so glad we did! We started with the hummus platter, which was delicious, and the spicy feta was definitely the standout. I had the open-faced chicken platter and my husband got the gyro--both were flavorful, and the portions were huge! We had enough leftovers for the next day. I had a lamb appetizer and their lamb special. The sliced lamb in the appetizer was actually more impressive than the lamb chunk. Either way, both were delicious. Well then; so much to say, only so many character's! I would say My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the point of reference here. Workers yelling at each other, the gossip girls drinking coffee and chatting about current events, and dummies everywhere. Every single item was top notch; with large portions, great unique sauces, and fresh delicious flavors! I literally told the waitress to order me anything that was unique that I couldn't get anywhere else. My friend liked the idea and did the same. We ended up doing the Gyro bowl and Soutsoukakia. It was incredible! My other friend had the flaming cheese; you have to order this; the presentation is sick! Now; desserts. Not to sound like a broken record, but WOW! It was our first visit to Athena's. Ir came highly recommended from a friend. I loved the welcome as we entered and the aroma of the Greek food cooking was delightful. I ordered a regular Gyro and it was packed with meat, tomatoes , onion and tzatziki sauce. Much larger than expected and didn't have to wait long at all! Our server was careful to review the favorites on the menu and she pointed out all the things that were made from scratch, in-house. So many things! Too many to list! I tried the Fiesty Feta Bread (served with warm pita bread!) and the Dolmadakia (grape leaves); both were very good! They have a full dessert menu too.
