The innkeeper showed us to our room, the master suite, and after we brought our luggage inside, we had a tea party on the veranda, which our kids really loved. Eva, the innkeeper, and Madison, her helper, had great conversation with us as our kids played hide-n-seek before going to the front pond/lake to skip stones off of the bridge. Our room was so spacious, and the bathroom was huge as well. It has a full jacuzzi/hot tub for a bathroom and the walk-in shower has two shower heads and a hand-held shower as well. The bed was incredibly comfortable. In the morning, breakfast was served and both mornings the food was delicious. Eva also gave us some great local places to eat as well. All-in-all, our stay was amazing and exceeded our expectations. Yes, I know, that's not what it looks like to me either. Originally, it appears that this lovely building was an ice house and then used as a sanitarium. Then it was a home. It's an old converted house on the river and I sat outside drinking my daiquiri late on a Monday night. The breeze off the lake / river was lovely and I enjoyed sitting in the veranda. I felt like such a southern Belle / diva / goddess. My room was lovely. I slept well. It was extremely quiet in my room which was at the back of the house. And even when I woke up I loved sitting on the verandah. First thing I did after making coffee was to head there. They are so thoughtful. There was bug spray on the verandah for me to use. I didn't notice it the night before, but this is the place to being bug spray. At 8:30 there is breakfast. They have coffee and juice (an excellent combo orange - cranberry which I never thought of but will emulate). They brought me a fresh fruit cup and then a lovely almond glazed French toast

The owners were both present and they were so very kind. She told us the history of the antebellum home and their restoration of it. The town has come on hard times and there was not much to do or see but the B&B is a gem and a great haven for cyclists. Breakfast was fantastic as well and we left full. They really cater to the cycling crowd.

Mr. Pat & Mrs. Kay are the owners and they are hands on at all times. They run the whole show, so you deal only with them and the interactions with them were always very pleasant! (When a business owner is dealing with customers, you usually get THE best treatment.) These 2 people are the kind that make you feel like you've known them forever. Booking our weekend was effortless. They took our information, and told us to call whenever we needed directions or help. They promised to turn on the air conditioner earlier in the day so that our cabin would be cool by the time we got there.(Spotless cabin, may I add. But more on that in a minute.) We ran into Memorial Day traffic and, therefore, ran very late. Never having met us, they told us they'd leave the key by the door to the cabin for us. Are you getting a sense of what kind of people they are? Upon turning onto the property, we felt a sort of serenity with the moonlight gently giving us a sneak peek at all of the natural beauty we would be surrounded by for the weekend. We were excited to see this beautiful piece of land in the morning sun! As we walked down the rustic wooden bridge that led to our cabin, we were treated to the delights of a country night; the still night air, the birds singing their greetings to us, the sound of the water trickling through the tiny creek, the steady rolling hum of the windmill, all accented by peaceful quietness. And the doves! Can you imagine having white doves flying around, always in pairs? On the front porch of the cabin were a rocking chair and a porch swing. How welcoming! The inside of the cabin was spotless and, as promised, cool. There were soft clean linens on the beds with nice, fluffy pillows. The bathroom had a variety of complimentary toiletries and fresh towels and rags. There was a heater nestled in front of a wall designed to outline a cozy fireplace. They even thought to put a game of Dominoes on the mantle! They went out of their way to add the little "homey" touches that really make a difference. We went to bed looking forward to relaxing in the sparkling pool the next day. (And we slept sooo good!) After a delicious breakfast of Strawberries Romanoff, French Toast with crispy bacon, orange juice and coffee, Mr. Pat told us some of the history of the house (there since 1902) and grounds, like Lindbergh having landed there in 1923, 4 years before he "crossed the pond." Mrs. Kay gave us a tour of the house (also their home) and shared more of its extensive, and quite interesting, history. Stepping into some of the rooms, we felt like we'd been transported back into time. For instance, entering the parlor gives you a sense of how life was back then. The décor and furnishings and timed pieces allowed you to feel like you were there when it was all brand new. The antiques and old pictures of the original family make you experience a personal connection with their past. Edgewood Plantation offers an excellent first and last impression! Whether you're in the Cabins or the Bed & Breakfast, it's a place where you can relax, with no chaos or responsibilities and feel at home while away from home. A retreat. Mr. Pat and Mrs. Kay work hard to make sure that Edgewood is not just a place to stay, but an experience!

I believe there are only 5 or so rooms and on street parking is nice. Coming off I20 we passed through a bit of sketch but the building is in nice area. Notice the PD was only a few blocks away. We felt safe for our entire stay. As mentioned area seems to be growing new businesses so we hit the easy button on evening meal. There is new BBQ place on corner 100' from Hamilton House. I'll review it soon as I catch up. We stayed in the Alexis suite. We found it clean along with the other areas of the establishment. You take a partial step back in time as you hoof the stairs and make entry but all the modern conveniences are present. Bathroom and shower real nice and bed comfy. There's a nice back deck off the huge kitchen area. We ear marked that for another stay where the heat might not be so high but one could sit and relax under the shade and can almost anytime. Morning breakfast was served up nicely and the food delish. Some kind of breakfast egg casserole. We enjoyed light conversation with our cook and general proprietor learning how the family worked to update and start the place. We really liked the quiet and laid back time we spent even if overnight only. Much nicer that hitting a chain hotel. I understand they are constructing a brewery just a block away and visible from the back deck if that's your sort of thing. You should slow down off the interstate and give them a try!
