Amazing salon! I had an appointment with Kennedy J to fix my hair that I completely messed up with box dye. I was quite embarrassed at what my hair looked like, but was treated with so much kindness and respect. Kennedy did not try to rush the appointment at all, and ended up making my hair look so much better, while also preserving my hair and keeping it as healthy as possible. If you want to basic bitch your hair go to captiva off the square. They requested a deposit to make an appointment which seemed super desperate and gave me doubts booking i should have gone with. The appointment was on a Wednesday and no one was there excpet the receptionist. The manager who cut my hair did not listen to my wants. I asked for the roots to match the rest of my hair. She dyed my hair a ugly dull gray blonde when my hair was gold honey blonde. She cut 10 inches off, i asked for it to be trimmed. I thought it was weird that she cut my hair similar to the receptionist, hideous. This weird baby bangs with blunt ends very dull gross gray blonde. Only complimenting to an unnatural blonde. I went in on the following Saturday for her to fix it and the place was filled with the exact same ugly gray dull very dull blonde with all the same various lengths of an 80s trash cut of taylor swift or stevie knix so basic bitch. It was a waste of money and time as i had to go twice and she never even got it back to the color of my hair. I cant do anything about the cut that is so basic bitch until it grows out. No styling looks good, pony tail nothing, because of how trashy the cut is, it is horrible. A waste if money and time. You pay for their location because you can go to supercuts and get the same basic trash cut. Do not do it. Save yourself from basic bitch hair that costs. read more

Captiva was able to get me in last minute for a 3pm appointment (I called in the am when they opened). Mikenzi dyed my hair. I explained what I had in mind and gave her some free reign and I love it. The color came out great and blended perfectly and the hair cut was exactly what I had in mind. I have zero complaints and will be going to Mikenzi for my future hair appointments! I just moved into the DFW area 2 years ago and have been searching for a good salon. I found a place near the stockyards but the location isn't the greatest and its a high traffic area. After moving towards the Justin area of FTW, I did some more reseaech and came across Captiva. I messaged the salon with some questions and the owner responded very quickly and was very nice so I decided to make an appointment. It IS a bit confusing to find only because the sign for the salon is past the entrance to the center its located in. And it's all the way to the left of that shopping center. It really is a hidden gem. I got an appointment with Ashley, I called that tuesday and was able to get an early saturday appointment for a haircut. They offer coffee/snacks upon arrival. I was seen right away , we sat down to discuss what would be done and then we to the wash room. Her station was very clean (which to an OCD person like me is very important). She used different techniques and tools and was very knowledgeable. She didn't mind answering questions about technique or products used. I told her the ONE thing I expected was to not leave with color on my face. It was all over. It's on my ears. My neck. My face. I even asked her to clean it before I left. Emily has done my hair 3 times now and every time I go to her I leave with my hair looking even better than the time before. She is very talented and took my requests and made them even better than I imagined. I have a very interesting relationship with my hair due to alopecia and I have patches of hair loss all over my head. She cut it to where all my spots are covered and my hair looks thick and voluminous. I get compliments from friends and even strangers all the time on my hair and for someone who struggles with hair loss and the devastation that can bring, it is an amazing feeling to have others stop you in the street to say OMG, I love your hair!! Needed a bikini sugaring on New Year's Eve and Karen delivered! Was super flexible when I changed my appointment time and had me in and out in less than 20 minutes. The picture on the left is what I came in with. The picture on the right is when I left. Mind you I just had highlights in one session from a previous salon they aren't as blonde as they look in the pick since it's filtered. Anyway. I wanted to go back brown I paid a lot of money for it to be blonde and it was damaged and I just wanted to go back to brown. As you can see it's not fully brown and the lady doing my hair (Kenzie) was well aware. Instead of applying additional toner or dye she recommended purchasing an additional 40$ deep conditioner that had some brown pigment to fix it. I mean you know you messed up right if you have to tell them hey this will fix what I couldn't right? Anyway so I use the conditioner fully. A month goes by still no change. I called them and asked if they could fix it they said yes. But they wanted the original stylist to do it and I would have to pay the full service. Regardless I didn't feel like I should have had to pay or at least get a discount because I bought a conditioner that they said would work and didn't. Will not be coming back! read more

Luckily, they were able to squeeze me in for a same day appointment. Sara ended up cutting my hair and she was great! All I needed was a simple split end trim and evening out of my layers. I walk by the salon every single day when I take my dog out on our evening walks, so I figured I would take a leap of faith and try it out. My hair is thick, curly and it's own epitome of a hot mess, so I decided to book with one of their level 3 stylists. Skylar did AMAZING with my hair. I didn't know exactly what I wanted, but I knew that I wanted to stay on the brunette spectrum. Skylar threw out an idea, and I went with it. After FIVE (5) Fridays of Haylee TOTALLY DESTROYING my hair and having to wear a hat, I am now ready to update my review on Haylee as a stylist and as Captiva Hair salon as a Salon represented by the manager Amber(?) Amanda(?) Her name started with an A... after Haylee cut my hair the first time I gave her a great review even though she did NOT cut the back the way I wanted it, at the time she told me she wasn't that comfortable after cutting so much hair off and I understood ... a month later is when I went back to get a layered all over hair cut and left after two hrs with the worst unfinished haircut I've ever been given... and she still charged me....that was the first time I have ever left a salon feeling the way I did that day....I showed up with pictures and everything .... after she cut her finger I'm not sure she picked the scissors back up... she only used a shaver blade and thinning shears.... one of her first cuts was behind my right ear where she cut all the hair off... just cut it off.... I'm sitting there looking in the mirror and all I see is where it looks like she placed an imaginary bowl on my head and started trimming around it... zero hair behind my right ear all kinds of hair behind my left flipping out everywhere.... now the pictures I brought here were of some pixie cuts and then the layered haircut... she told me she wasn't comfortable cutting a pixie cut so we both agreed the layered cut was the way to go, I told her we could start medium length I could feel it with my own hands and if I want more cut off then we could... and she agreed and then turned around and cut all the hair from behind my ear....she asked me at one point after just butchering my right side if I liked it and I told her NOT ONE BIT.... WHERE IS MY HAIR BEHIND MY EAR? I'm like this isn't anything we talked about... then she starts huffing and puffing in my ear... yes Haylee we can hear you... I also felt every tremble of nervousness before and after you went and got the manager.... The manager stood there with arms crossed making her even more nervous, watching her every move well then the manager jumps in... the both start just pulling my hair behind my right ear...trying to make it seem likes it there, the manager then started talking about the mother from the Brady Bunch... at this point I am livid... they are yanking my hair and really worried about the style whether than the cut I asked for... the manager continues to watch over her and this is all still on my right side.... now the manager walks off when she moves to the left side... barely touched anything and went back to the right... the manager walks back up asks how everything is and I say we'll she hasn't cut this side like that side... well it's all on how you style it and what product you use... oh my gosh this was the worst time ever.... so the manager walks away and I ask Haylee, are you finished with the back? I can be she says and takes the apron off and cleaned up her area.... walked over charged me half price.... as I stood there I asked her if she learned anything and she said she did... well let me tell you something I absolutely do not appreciate you practicing cutting hair on MY HEAD... you belong somewhere that only charges something less than 20 bucks.... until you're more COMFORTABLE actually being a stylist!!!! Now if you're looking for a stylist , a REAL STYLIST, I will also be giving an amazing review on Michelle over at The Soho Salon, She had to correct what Haylee unprofessionally let walk out with.... shame shame young lady!!! read more

My desired cut was pre-discussed before the process began and I trusted that we were both on the same page as she referenced the correct length on herself as well. Long story short, my hair was cut two inches shorter than the desired length, it's honestly traumatizing and a very unwelcome cut. I'm baffled at how she could have cut it so far off of the length, wanting to cut it to my shoulders but only touching my shoulders if I completely tilt my head? I've continued going to Captiva since my initial review and my experiences just get better. I love my stylist. She's goes above and beyond for me, taking time to teach me quick tricks or to explain how the molecule size differs between hair dyes. She's also really good at knowing my personality; she doesn't pressure me to talk, but is a great conversationalist when I'm feeling chatty. ----------------------------------------------- Original review from May 2011: When I first moved to Denton a few years ago, I had a hard time finding a salon I liked.
