I followed Victoria to Capture Salon. I was anxious about going to a brand new salon but when I walked in I knew immediately we both made a great choice! The salon is so spacious and bright with natural light and wood floors and there is this absolutely funky wall mural that is awesome. It's in the old renovated Water Company building and they incorporated the original molding and woodwork into their design and the best is the walk-in money vault that was renovated to be an office area! I have to remind myself that I'm only 1 block down from Church Street and Gateway when I'm there - I really feel totally removed from New Haven. On Saturday you can park for free in the lot across from the salon as long as you're out by 5:00. I used to schedule my appointments for after work, but once I found out about the Saturday parking, I actually make the trip into New Haven on Saturday because it really is a cool little city to visit on weekends. And the salon's location in the 9th square is so neat, with all the brick buildings. It makes me miss the "old" New Haven when it was the place to go for shopping and eating. The stylists are so friendly and made me feel like they knew me forever. I recommend the salon to everyone. The prices are comparable for an upscale salon but I feel like the atmosphere and the manner in which I'm greeted and treated to be "value added" features I don't find everywhere. This review is long overdue - I recently moved to New Haven and am so happy to have found this salon! I come here regularly for my nails, waxing, haircuts and highlights. The salon is beautiful. I see Victoria for my hair and Liz for my waxes, who both do a fantastic job! For my wedding this past July, Alex, the owner, went out of her way to make the morning of the wedding relaxing and fun. Alex put together a beautiful spread with mimosas, bagels, fruit and yogurt. Our wedding was on a Sunday, and most salons are closed, but they opened the Salon up for us for a reasonable charge. My bridal party flew in from out of town and were blown away by how great their updos looked for the wedding! We had Alex, Victoria, Vanessa and Cassie. I did a bridal design trial with Victoria a few weeks before the wedding and she did a great job of making sure my hair and makeup was exactly what I wanted for the wedding. Everyone's hair looked beautiful and we all had a great morning together. It was a perfect start to our wedding day and I couldn't have asked for anything more. I'm so happy I found this place. I had an excellent experience and loved my blonde color and awesome haircut. Hector was not only an amazing stylist but he is so personable and down to earth. In fact, everyone in Capture Salon makes you feel so welcome and comfortable the moment you walk in. Kala was super nice and offered me coffee and water to start my experience there. Alex, the owner, was another fantastic individual who I would enjoy hanging out with outside of the salon. Liz, who did my waxing, was also a genuine, cool person. The décor also feels great and upscale with its spacious white interior, red chairs and porcelain floor. You sure get the value for your money here at Capture Salon. I lived in Manhattan for 13 years and have been to a number of high end salons and this ranks up there with these salons at an affordable price. My name is Amanda and my first time at Capture Salon was about 3 months ago. I had a hair emergency! I am a Nursing student and ended up having a fire incident in laboratory with the ends of my hair. I made an appointment to have a consultation/hair cut to fix the mess! I found a parking spot right in front of the salon and was greeted immediately by a very friendly receptionist. Hector was my stylist and was very understanding, knowledgable and had a wonderful personality! He cut my hair to the utmost perfection and my little incident went further unnoticed thanks to Hector! I also would like to add that NO ONE has ever straightened my hair as well as Hector did, I was beyond impressed. I have curly, frizzy, unmanagable hair and no other stylist has ever known what to do with it. I went to see Hector at Capture Salon on the recommendation of my nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital. I have an immune disorder which progressed to the point where I need a bone marrow transplant, and I went to Hector for my wig and to have my head shaved. He was fantastic with the wig. Having gone through it, he was able to prepare me for what to expect with the chemo. He was also able to suggest a color and cut that would look complimentary once I've undergone chemo. He even cut and styled the wig specifically for me. It looks great! But he was truly amazing when I went to have my head shaved. I had very long, curly hair, and he made what could have been a traumatic experience anything but. He shaved my hair into a mohawk first, and I was laughing so much, I didn't even realize he was shaving the rest. I didn't cry once. He made what could have been an awful experience a very positive one, and I will always be very grateful for that. read more

As a recently diagnosed cancer patient, Someone from Smilow Cancer Center recommended that I meet with Hector Cruz for my wig. "You will not be disappointed - everyone we send is 100% satisfied with him and his work." And so I went... I walked in feeling very nervous, but was immediately put at ease with the smile of the staff and welcoming environment. Then, I met Hector (a cancer survivor) and my road to getting a wig to help me get through chemotherapy was suddenly very comforting and supportive, but most of all made so easy. He understood where I was, gave me time to breathe, ask questions and selected the most beautiful wig. The cost is reasonable and most of it will be covered with insurance. Renee and the others at Capture Salon are just wonderful. She's been styling my hair for 18 years and I've followed her from salon to salon. Capture is by far the best! It is simply gorgeous and equipped with every amenity to make their customers comfortable. I read over the other reviews- just like with any appointment-driven business, there is only so much that can be controlled. If you're waiting for your stylist, it's likely because they are dedicating their time to making sure each and every client leaves 100% happy! Be patient and you won't regret it! For the past two months, Hector, has helped me choose, color and style a wig to best meet my needs as I knew I would be bald due to my chemotherapy quite soon. I was referred to Hector at Capture Salon by Yale Smilow Cancer Center. Hector was beyond caring with me and empathetic. He was able to give me insight into many things due to his own personal experience. He spent so many hours talking, listening, processing what was best for me. I love this salon! Alex has done such a great job with the place. It is clean, neat and priced just right! Renee cut and styled my hair this weekend and I couldn't be happier! Being a mom, I needed a cut that was simple, easy to manage, but still beautiful. Renee listened what I wanted and gave me exactly what I was looking for! I will definitely be returning to Capture and Renee in the near future! Another thing to consider, they offer spa and waxing services too which are very reasonably priced. Parking was not a problem, there are 2 lots adjacent to the salon (free on the weekend) as well as metered parking right in front. I was very impressed with what Capture had to offer. read more

Just got my first haircut there - Jenna was excellent. I brought a picture and she did exactly what I wanted. The hair falls great and requires minimal work. It's a BEAUTIFUL space and they have coffee and candy for customers. Also - this is very important to me - they are dog-friendly. I brought my miniature dachshund mix to the appointment and they gave her treats, held her for me, and had no problem at all with her presence there. I'm always on the lookout for dog-friendly businesses, so I was very pleased! Apparently the owner has a dog she brings to the salon often (though she wasn't there the day I was there). What a great find! Ann spent a long time on my quirky hair sorting out my poor pre Christmas haircut done in the UK! She also took time to give me tips and advice on brushes, blow drying etc etc. I WILL be back in a few months' time and I will get my manicure done here too! Sadly Liz, the beauty therapist, was fully booked today so she couldn't sort out the embarrassingly very poor gel manicure I had done elsewhere in New Haven yesterday! I was in dire need of good gifts for my gf. She kept mentioning the need for good hair products for the past month. I noticed capture salon while nearby and decided to stop in. The front desk lady greeted me happily and I mentioned my problem. Leah not only helped me find an assortment of products she was also informative and knew exactly what products would work well with my girlfriends hair. I've had a blond ombre in my hair for a year. It completely messed up my hair and broke it all apart.
