The prices were extremely reasonable and the turnaround was so quick! I came in for a smog check and oil change, popped in at around 10am, and was out within an hour with zero hassle. The only thing that was a bit vexing is the lack of parking, but now I know to just park on the street and they grab your car for you. I actually hate to write this review. We have been taking our 2010 Toyota RAV4 to David for 11 years, every 5,000 miles or so for service. David is down to earth, service has been ok, and he doesn't try to addon unnecessary things like the Toyota dealership does. However - Something has changed since the pandemic. I contacted David to discuss a 180,000 mile service and all the recommendations from Gilroy Toyota totaling $1,800! David said he was too busy to discuss at that moment and to come in later in person with the list. I went in yesterday afternoon and he took a cursory look at the list. We talked about 2 of the items on the list, but he said he was busy and could I bring the car in for the service the next day at 9am to go over it and leave the car. He would have it ready by 1pm. I showed up today at 9am and David said "we covered everything yesterday." I told him we didn't, but in any case, I had some questions about what some of the items were so that I could make a decision. He said he was too busy and he would call back in the afternoon to give me a quote. I guess he forgot that he told me to bring it in and it would be ready by 1pm. I told him again that I needed to have a couple of items explained and I would appreciate it if he would take care of me. Again, we have taken our car to him for 11 years! He again said he didn't have time to answer my questions. I had taken about 40 seconds of his time. At that point, I realized this was not the same David that we had grown to know and trust and I told him we would have to find another mechanic. He simply shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Over the years, other good mechanics have come to Hollister. I'd advise you to check around. read more

I thought I'd take my time taking my car in to get a smog check on a Saturday morning. I figured they wouldn't be busy. Whoa.....I was wrong. That's a good sign for a business when there are people waiting for their cars to get serviced. I walked in and was told it was going to be an hour wait. I told them I'd wait around since I had no ride. They took my name and number and held my place in line and said I could do whatever I had to do and they'd call me when it was my turn to get smogged. Cool! Ran some errands and got a call to come back. I'm a mechanic by trade, no smog license though, and it's hard for me to find someone to trust to do any sort of work on my cars. What's the worst thing a car repair shop could do? First not tightening the lug nuts and having the wheels come off while driving and second not adding oil after an oil change. Well the second one happened here. After picking my car up and driving home 6 miles, I heard a horrible noise coming from the engine bay. Low and behold, the dipstick was dry. I topped off the oil and drove back to talk to the owner. He basically called me a liar, insulted my intelligence and said he would do the oil change again. No way I said. Forget this place. I have used them a few times in the past and always get a weird shady feeling. Never again. read more

Overall it's an OK place to get your car repaired. BUT don't be mistaken that this IS NOT a typical mechanic shop. I went in there for a transmission flush, but ending up took the car back because the fluid is still as dirty. We then discovered that his employee decided to cut a corner by not flushing the torque converter as prior instructed and agreed on. The owner agreed to redo it, which resulted in a clean fluid as should have been done in the first place. However, the owner was not happy when I raised a fundamental question that I'm not responsible for the time and material wasted by his employee tardiness. Not to mentioned my time wasted on 3 additional trips to rectified the problem. read more

I have used many places over the years but this place is my total go to car repair shop. They know their stuff. Prices are great. David the owner, will not over charge or do work that is not needed. Here is an example....I took my truck in for an oil change at a quick oil change place in Gilroy. They told me I needed a new water pump. The oil shop wanted to do it for $500.00 I decided to take my truck to Car Diagnostics. I explained I needed a new water pump. They called me a few hours later telling me they pressurized the system and found no leaks and the water pump was working fine!! They could have changed it I would have never known......THANK YOU FOR YOUR TRUE HONESTY!!!! I will drive from Morgan Hill to Hollister to this very honest and great auto repair shop. read more

I absolutely love the owner of this place. He is a little hard to understand due to his accent, but great honest, nice guy. I came in because this is where my boyfriend's mom takes her car to for servicing. I needed a serpentine belt and my car place was gonna charge me 168 dollars to fix it! I decided that was really expensive since the belt is very inexpensive so I took my car to Car Diagnostic Center and he said it would only be 80! That more than half of what the other guys were gonna charge me. Needless to say, I am more than happy. I will be going back for future maintenance on my vehicles. read more
