This is an update. Read my previous review to fully understand the rating. They refunded $280 of my $300 deposit. I am so relieved to see that I got most of it back I was (at first) tempted to give them 3 stars. But i returned it with more gas than it had when I picked it up and more importantly the amount of gas it is supposed to have per my contract. Very bad experience with Airport Rental Car. The employee named Joe was extremely unprofessional. He made us sign all the paperwork and then gave us a damaged car with multiple issues. I rented a car from this place for one week. The guy in the office was very nice and helped me out by only asking for a $200 deposit, $30 cash and $170 on my card. when I returned the car I was told that they only process deposit refunds on the 1st and 15th of the month and it would be charged back to my card. It is now a week later and still no refund, which my bank only takes 2 to 3 business day to complete, so it should have been done. I called today to find out where it was, the guy said he left me a message on my phone, which i never received. Have tried three more times today to talk to someone with no one answering the phone, so have left messages. The car i rented had been hit or hit something all around the frame, but it did drive great. It only had 1/4 of tank of gas when I got it and returned it with a little over 1/2 tank. I may upgrade this review to three stars if they handle this in a day or two. I'm not happy with this company. read more

The car recently broke down on me and I was told I can get a replacement but when I went to the office they told me I can't until they figure out why the car broke down. The people running this business are fraud. They don't return back the deposit. They give you a junk old car and if it breaks down then they charge you for repairs. They have a daily mileage limitation of 25 miles per day which they don't tell you but charge you for it and for many other things when you return so your deposit is completely gone. They don't give you the rate they advertise but give you an expensive rate. They took my $300 deposit and never returned it back. They gave me the worst 25 yr or more older car and didn't tell me about mileage limitation of 25 per day. I highly advise you to stay away from these corrupted people and their Airport Cheap Car Rental Business if you want your money safe. They can even use your credit card and Driver Lic info for identity theft and threaten you against it if you try to take action against them. You may get plenty of online cheaper deals from good companies for car rental than these people. Don't rent from this place they will rip you off. I rented a 2006 Toyota Corolla that shook going down the road and the brake pedal went to the floor. The ad said one week rental 99 dollars. When I got there it was 178. I paid that plus a 300 dollar deposit. I called them to return the car early they said I could buy wouldn't be refunded anything. I rented the car on the 24th of Aug @ 5 pm I returned @ 10 nobody was there so I was charged a late fee.Also they asked for my credit card and without my consent put 2 forty dollar charges plus 3 sixty dollar charges. This Company is a complete Scam... They lie and cheat their customers on a regular basis. A friend of mine recently rented a car from them and it broke down. When she called them they said it wasn't their responsibility and they had nobody to fix the problem. After 4 hours of trying to contact them to no avail. This is the worst car rental company I've ever encountered. Avoid at all costs. The solid one star rating should be a glaring red flag for anyone who can use a basic search function. Unfortunately, my colleague failed to do her due diligence so here we are... First, when we arrived on the lot, no one was in the little shack of an office to help us. After I called the main number and about 10 minutes had passed did someone come to help us. The man was not friendly which was not a big deal, but he was not accommodating and was quick to decline some basic requests for my colleague, for example, "the tire looks pretty darn flat, can we get some air?" "No, drive to the gas station down the street yourself and get it there." Wow, really? No shit, completely forgot the reviews for this place. No courtesy and a complete disregard for customer safety - hope you guys have good insurance. At that point I wanted to walk away but colleague desperately needed a car. Second, this is the first rental place that I've seen rent out such old, beat up cars. The one they provided to my colleague was a 2005 Toyota Corolla. My immediate response was to pull out my phone and start taking pictures of all the damage around the car. I'm big on CYA and so should you if you decide to do business here. Third, if you're going to offer a Yelp deal, honor it, otherwise remove it. When I mentioned the deal and showed it on my phone, the guy just shrugged and said he couldn't do anything because my colleague booked the week online already. How about we rebook with the deal? Nope. The fuckery continues. Based on the other reviews I briefly perused, I anticipate revising to include this company bamboozling some or all of my colleague's $500 deposit they just told her was required to take the crap car off the lot. Fingers crossed but given the ratings for this place it's certainly dubious optimism. Sure you may save some money initially renting from this place, but is it worth the hassle and headache that entails upon return of the rental? In fact, you may end up spending more when they steal your deposit. There's always small claims, but why take the chance? I'm a fan of taking calculated risks, but you're awfully bad at math if you choose to rent from here after just seeing the one star rating for this place. Please stay away. These guys are scammers and will ignore all your calls. I had rented a minivan for $56 a day for 1 day and everything was fine until they took $421 dollars from my security deposit. Mind you this van was an old toyota sienna and the AC barely worked with over 200000 miles on it. I kept calling and calling to try and resolve this issue but continued to be ignored even when i walked into the lot. They claim that i drove over 400 miles(in one day) and had smoked in the car(which i didnt, because who is stupid enough to do that in a rental?!). I am currently waiting for a response from the BBB and in the process of taking this to small claims court to get this resolved. We had booked a mini van with CBX Budget car rental. On the day of our vacation, after waiting in line for an hour, when we went to pick up the car they did not have the car available. It is unbelievable how the staff was not able to contact the manager to address the issue. We had specifically booked a mini van because my dad is paralyzed and could not get in any other big cars. We had no idea what to do. My family was waiting to go on vacation and we finally called Joe(saw him on google). Joe answered immediately and said he had a mini van available. I rented a car from pieless rental getting a full size Sedan for a decent price and the person offered an upgrade but he made it sound like he was giving it to me because I was from San Diego well it turns out that he more than doubled the cost of my rental from 139 to 199 on top of the 139 and he did it in a way that it seemed like he was giving me a free upgrade so they should change their name from Payless rental to pay more rental. I HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN THREATENED LIKE THIS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE We had to call 911 on Tommy Miller on 8/5/18 to report a violent threat. Tommy is an older Caucasian gentleman, with a beard and balding. He didn't like the "way I was talking to him". His eyes flashed white with rage as he stepped inches away from my face and threatened to knock my lights out. In fact, Tommy said "I WILL knock you the FUCK out if you don't back down." So, what was I saying that made Tommy so angry? I asked him to "work with me, I paid the weekly rate and I only rented the car for 6 days and 4 hours, why charge me a $48 late fee?" Effectively charging me 8 days for 6 days and 4 hours' worth of rental. Sure, I would understand if I was late, but in fact I was just 18 hours early. I felt like I should at least ask about the late fee, but that turned out to be a mistake. If Tommy does charge you a late fee, please for your safety, don't question him, or he MIGHT just "knock you the fuck out". Overcharging customers is nothing new. But I never expected to be physically threatened and cussed at, in front of my 5-year-old nephew and my sister. My nephew had to run away from the scene to get far from Tommy because he was afraid. Tommy wasn't just verbal, he stepped up to me, challenging me to a fight, inches away from my face, I could FEEL how close I was to being in the first fight of my life. I just can't believe that even happened. If you do rent from here, make sure every little thing you agree to verbally, every little ding on the car, etc. is noted, and EVERY communication is signed...and signed again. ****UPDATE**** Call the attorney general I was scammed for 700.00. This is a con business and should be reported to the BBB. When we arrived nobody was there and we were told he was on way back from airport. When he returned he tried to give us a ratty gross old car and we said we wanted something nicer and he said we could take the car he was just driving. He grabbed his half eaten burrito out of it and said goodbye. The car stunk and within a day we had a flat tire. When we called the office they said to take it to discount tire they had a contract there. Discount tire said they couldn't fix it and it would need to be replaced. Rental car place refused to pay so we had to buy a new tire or return the car and give another 500 deposit. We replaced the fire for 50 dollars. A few days later we came to the car in a parking lot to find it had a second flat tire. Back to discount we went and again they said we had to buy another new tire. Rental place again would not cover it and said it was our responsibility. 50 dollars later we had now purchased 2 new tires for 50 dollars each for this rental car. The final straw was the next day we went to drive it and the battery was dead. We called AAA and they towed it back to the rental car place saying it needed a new battery. This was the last straw and we gave the car back and insisted on a working car for the remainder of our contract. They swapped the car out and the second car was fine for the remaining couple days. But then we returned it and we're told our deposit would be refunded within a couple days. That didn't happen and we had to keep calling back to find out when it would be given back. Finally after checking our credit card statement saw that not only did they not give back the deposit but they charged an additional 300 dollars because they said we returned the car late. These people are crooks who run a sham business. Do not give them your money. Their cars are not safe and could harm you and their goal is to get and keep your deposit no matter what. One day's rental costed me $49.05, not what they advertised $17.95/day. Charged me $300 deposit, only refunded $211; lying that 89 miles over the 100-mile-limit were used, when in fact only 37 miles used. Frank, the manager, 60's, short, bald with blue eyes was violent and full of expletives in his response when my husband and I confronted him. He snatched & damaged my camera. Joe was the worker when we returned the car, refused to give any paper work, guaranteeing verbally that we'll be refunded the full deposit the very next day. Half a month later, a deficient refund showed up, short by this fraudulent charge. All cars they offered were dumps: won't start after 20 tries, or took a minute or 2 for engines to start, or wreckage inside out, missing emblems, holes on consoles & doors, grime & dirt everywhere. Relatively decent cars were all stick-shift. Required one quarter tank of gas upon return, but gave me at only half the last quarter tank. Had to call AAA the car won't start again while on our hands. Office often shut tight during normal operating hours, need to wait ~20 minutes for worker to show up. Frank's second lie was that they open 24/7; third lie: deposit only an authorization, not a charge, but the charge showed up right away on my credit card account; fourth lie: they keep meticulous records on mileage in & mileage out. Saying that they've been in business for 29 years in San Diego. Looks like San Diego is the perfect place to harbor fraudulent businesses like this. The SD district attorney's office would never bother to investigate this known fraudulent gangster.
