Management should serious consider changing the music up. This place it clean, Friendly, but is lacking variation in music. Requesting music is difficult when they only have songs from 4+ years ago if that. We eat out about 3Xs per week and spend lots of money on food. We really wanted to like this place - but were sadly disappointed. 1. Nobody helped us find a seat...we had to stand in the middle of the entrance for about 3-5 minutes before the bartender yelled to us to sit anywhere....she was rude. Other waitress walked by 2 times without acknowledging us or offering to help. 2. Looked at one table to sit, but it had not been cleaned. Took a table up front near the windows, but it had a dirty chair. 3. Place wasn't very busy, 4:30 pm on Sunday night. 4. Waitress didn't know the menu very well...seemed perplexed by questions. Very dazed and confused. 5. No vegetarian options - waitress kept saying that she thought they had a turkey burger that was actually vegetarian but didn't offer up any ideas. 6. Waitress said she would check on veggie options, but never came back with anything. 7. Ordered mac and cheese bites, came out on a plain plate, no sauce or anything 8. No silverware or napkins, until after we had food coming, and arriving separately. 9. Salad was warm, didn't have the correct lettuce mix. It cost 9.00, was actually called the big salad, but was not much bigger than the side salad. The side salad had croutons, but the big salad had none. Lettuce on the side salad was slimy and old 10. Waitress was not attentive...stayed at the bar talking to people 11. Irish stew wasn't even room temperature - very bizarre, like it was just pulled out of the frig and not even put in the microwave or on the stove to be warmed up. Waitress almost dumped stews off the table on delivery. 12. Some guy who works there came and reached behind us to turn on a light that was in the corner that did not need to be turned on. He brushed my back , pushed my chair in, and disturbed our table. 13. Had to wait forever to get bill - almost just left some random amount on the table in order to leave. The bouncers at the door were very inappropriate flirting with and hitting on someone with our group. Taking forever to check her license go over her height and weight. After we said we didn't need their help further they continued to cat call at her when walking by. I was very displeased with the way these two grown men interacted with guests. This was such a bad dinner choice that cost wayyy to much $$ for what we received especially on a Friday night!! The food was bad and the service was scattered. Drinks took 20 mins for two of us of the four and the drink were a beer and a soda. We ordered nachos with no black olives, when they were delivered they had black olives and the waitress said she is sorry but she forgot to request them to be removed and would we take them because she was scared of the cook/ owner (tommy), What??? Please note they do not melt the cheese it is just sprinkled on... Very strange and not very appetizing...I mean really...Then our burgers were not to the temps requested the waitress asked the manger owner #2) to come over and she said sorry but to be honest she seemed upset with us she took them back and it took another half hour until we got them back, the other two in our group ate their fish dishes and said they were ok. When we did get our burgers they were now over temp but we were starving, they were flavorless and dry, had some kind of grit on them maybe from the grill. Beer was good. Service was good. Food was horrible, just horrible. I got the ploughman's plate and it tasted like they bought cheap bread, cheese, jam, and ham from market basket, threw it on a plate, and then charged $11.00 for it. I am not super picky but that was just gross and I only ate about two bites. Second to a gross salad from Margarita's, it was the most disgusting food that had ever been served to me at a restaurant. Finally one asked if I was all set and I said NO. Got my drink returned to my table. The waitress arrived telling us her life story and gave us menus. She brought our appetizer without plates, napkins or silverware. We meet with the rest of our party and found their waitress had also shared her life story and served food without plates, napkins and silverware. She had one table - US and it it took her up to 15 minutes to get our drinks to us. We saw them sitting at the bar. She would take a drink order but only one at a time. One of the girls never did get her drink. We had reservations and she had to ask us to move to another table because they had another reservation coming in. R E A L L Y ? ! We paid our bill and left. We went here on a Friday night and ended up wishing we hadn't. I hate to leave a bad review, but people (both the owners and patrons) need to know. The good things started right after walked in - we were seated promptly and the manager was very nice to our two children, bringing toys over for them to plan with. We ordered the ploughman's platter, which everyone liked OK, the chutneys were good. The service from there on out was hard to come by - I had to walk up and ask the waitress to get another round of drinks and it took a full 30 minutes after the appetizer for her to take our order. It took a whole hour to get our food, so the wait was ridiculous and no one came over to say "sorry", "it'll be right out", or anything to recognize this was not acceptable. I had to again track down the server to ask when it would be ready. I got the short rib and my wife the lamb shank, both of which were the worst entrees we've ever gotten at a restaurant. They were so tough my wife had to ask for a steak knife and I could barely cut pieces off the short rib. Both those entrees should be slow cooked, tender, and able to be eaten with just a fork...they were none of those things. I also think the gravy for the short ribs came from a can...disappointing. My 8 year old son had an interesting quip on the way home - we asked him what he thought, he said - "Dad, I know they just cooked that macaronni and cheese from a box, why did that take so long?" First time eating there last night. We were greeted and seated quickly by our waiter in a booth in the bar area. Our waiter came to our table with his hands full of appetizers for us and another table, ours was resting on his arm. He extended his arm toward my boyfriend to grab our appitizer from his arm! No appitizer plates or silverware at our table yet. We were sitting there staring at our appitizer. Are you F'ing kidding me? No trays for the staff to carry food out. Get your staff trays and tray stands, you cheap *ucks! Or teach your staff how to work without trays. The wait for my drink was ridiculous. I signaled another staff member walking by to come to our table. I asked for my drink that had been poured a few minutes ago. Pointing at our appitizer, I also asked for appitizer plates and silverware. She was great, too bad she wasn't our server We had Mac & Cheese bites appitizer. They were not bites. Bites: each one is a F'ing bite. Dur. They were three balls the size of plums. They were blah. I had the potatoe crusted haddock for dinner...a thin piece of haddock topped with a two-inch thick layer of hash brown potatoes then topped with a little hollandaise. I paid $17 for F'ing hash browns. Not worth the price I paid. We will not be going back. read more

Came here to have a few drinks and eat some food with a couple of friends and let me just say, money not well spent. The service was externally poor and the drinks way over priced, not to mention the food was awful. I'm a big fan of steamers and when I ordered them they had been cooked so long that the steamers were shriveled up and tough. I also was not pleased with how they treat there employees. Over heard a manager yelling at a young girl who made a mistake and let me tell you I never want to see another teenager cry because of a stupid mistake. Everything is overpriced and extremely mediocre, from the food and drink, to the overall service, to the vibe itself. Are two huge bouncers at the front door necessary for the half a dozen people who go to the Chameleon Club on any given night? On the plus side, it's nice to have a patio where you can take your drink, and the pool and darts are free and in good condition. Beer selection is decent as well. But you can get a comperable selection, better food, better prices and better service at a half dozen other bars in Dover. read more

Four of us went last night. Salads we about five pieces of lettuce and a half of cherry tomato. !!!!!! I ordered a cabbage as a side dish,,, OMG,,, it was sandy and bitter,,,,,, awful , sure knew what was coming when I ordered corn beef and cabbage , just gross.... Orders screwed up..... Asked for bread. And the manager had to come over as the waitress was confused?????? We should have know something was wrong no one was in the restaurant,,,,,, really we went to get coffee and donuts after spending $100.00 on a horrible horrible wasteful meal. We visited this place recently and it was just ok. I order the roasted chicken and my baby ordered the nachos. The nachos were bland and the roasted chicken was really salty from drowning in teriyaki sauce. The service was friendly but slow. read more

Went with a friend on a Thursday night. We were carded twice by two different people but never got a drink order. We sat for 15 mins waiting for two beers. It was like they were pretending we weren't there. If you're 40 years old or older, this is the place for you, but any younger and you'll feel out of place here. The live music was a nice touch and the decor was nice, but the service was lacking to say the least. Very disappointed, we left without ever tasting a drink. I have been going to cara's for years because we can eat at late hours due to work schedules. I was always impressed with the owners response to some previous criticism (couple years ago) and the improvements since. My brother has been visiting from Germany and we frequented the place often as of late and we have been impressed with the quality of food pricing and portions. The atmosphere and overall attentive of staff was just great. I am so impressed with all the improvements and the overall appearance at Cara's. Yes i will and would recommend regardless of some of the silly reviews I just have read. Good job for creating a Dover relaxed dining and entertainment experience. My friends, family and myself are impressed how well this place is now run and will frequent this establishment often. My opinion may not be the most important, but its honest and sincere. Weird mix. Great food. Beautiful bar. The wait staff and bartenders are nice but not really personable. The worst thing I can say is that I have been here 4 times and never had a Guinness that was poured correctly...in an Irish Pub...that's significant of something not good. It should be one of the first things they teach new bartenders. I want Cara to be my favorite Pub in Dover but it's mostly mediocre. read more

Most of the bartenders are fantastic. It sounds stupid but they make me feel special because they have memorized my drink I love which is a vodka sunrise. I went tonight to have 2 drinks, which are $5 each, I told the other bartender I'd be back, I wanted to check out the restaurant down the road for a little while to get a bite so I paid my tab. I came back to Caras to open another tab (that the other bartender said I could do) and I was told "what makes you think I should open another tab for you, " they don't want my life story but I'm only working part time for right now but I wanted to have a fun night with family and friends. I was going to give them the tip the tall male bartender deserved because he's always awesome. But the other male bartender made me feel horrible and made me cry. I always tip because that's the right thing to do. Even though that bartender made me feel like shit, I still tipped. If he ever pulls that stupid shit again he isn't getting a dime. A tip is a gift that you almost always should leave but in this case he can get a big fat nothing. read more

Went in on a Sunday with my wife and two kids, and they were serving brunch until 3:00pm. Nice Irish Pub casual atmosphere with ample seating. Good quality pub fare with an excellent beer selection on tap. read more

Third or fourth time eating here and have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised each time. We like to frequent pubs in the area where the staff and barflies are friendly and like to chat and this certainly fits the bill. Everything is made fresh, they have unique specials every night, and the Irish soda bread is the best I have ever had - I didn't know soda bread could be so moist! I had the salmon tonight over herbed risotto. Salmon was perfectly cooked - not dry, not rare. Very flavorful. Their Irish cheesecake is amazing and beautifully plated with fresh blueberries. Not a fan of the crab cakes (hockey pucks) or cole slaw (too much mayo) but otherwise delish. read more

Hate to even give it one star. Went for their advertised lunch special. Salad was old and scarce. Their fries were very good. The sandwich was just OK. The lunch came with a dessert of fresh fruit with yogurt or whipped creme. We had to ask for dessert, the waitress had no clue. I don't think she even read the menu. Attended a function at Cara. The bartenders were good but the drinks were not up to par. I typically have one cocktail and that's all I can handle - I had 5 and didn't feel a thing. At the end of the event the manager started getting a bit rude with people standing around the bar. Also, beware of holding function upstairs as there are three tiers to the floor and people were regularly falling down and getting hurt. read more

Bartender cashed out another person's bill on our credit card and then gave our credit card to the stranger. Then the bartenders became hostile and verbally abusive when we demanded to speak with a manager. The bartender actually laughed and said "oops" when confronted about giving our bank card away. we had to cancel our card and deal with the bank. the staff are immature and irresponsible! read more

I've been going to Cara's for a few years now. If you want a quality atmosphere with everything from live Irish music to rustic bronze counters- Cara delivers! Their menu is limited but provides opportunity for authentic Irish cuisine, that's absolutely delicious. However, I will say that at times it has taken the food way to long to come out, and that you don't get very large food portions for the price. Anniversary dinner with hubby tonight. Wait staff was prompt and very attentive. We started with the onion rings, wonderfully crispy with a nice dipping sauce. Guinness braised short ribs were very tender, hubby's potato crusted haddock a nice large serving. Sides went well with both dishes. Dover Chameleon Club, I regret to inform you that you have forever lost my business and the image I have of you. In the past I have enjoyed myself at your establishment; the drinks were reasonable, music fun to dance to and the security friendly. However, I no longer feel comfortable with my safety and the safety of my friends with your security. The past few times that my friends and I have visited we have been told to leave with no reason or justification for our removal. We have always been polite in response but are talked down to and have even been grabbed and dragged out of the facility even though we were complying. I had given you many chances, but this weekends events are the final straw. I visited your establishment with my girlfriend this weekend after having dinner with some friends. After ten minutes of us arriving and making our way onto the dance floor we were asked to leave. I was stunned as we had not had a single drink or been bothering anyone. When asked what had happened or if there was something with our behavior we needed to change we were continually ignored until all four security guards had surrounded us. Unsure of what had happened and not wanting to create a further problem we walked to the doors with our four escorts. We had all made it down the first stairway to Caras when I was attacked. One of the security guards behind me put me in a choke hold and tossed me down the stairs to the front door. On my way down I hit my head off the stairs, severely bruised my shoulder and scratched my back in a few places. Once I hit the ground I was kicked in my back, instsntly bruising my kidney and knocking the wind out of my body. My glasses, which had bent, we're quickly picked up and thrusted into my hands as I was quickly lifted to my feet and pushed out the door. After ensuring that both my girlfriend and I had been removed they went back inside without another word, fleeing what they had just done. As a result of this attack I have a swollen kidney, bruised shoulder, scratches on my back, bent glasses and my watch which was a college graduation present is broken from when it hit the stairs. After speaking with a medical professional I was told my kidney will take a week to heal and that I could possibly experience blood in my urine which would then require me to need medical attention. I am deeply saddened that this behavior is allowed to happen at your establishment and as a result you have lost my business. read more
