This beloved South Berwick spot has it all. Homemade pies and cheesecake, burgers, pasta, sandwiches, entree and side salads, soups and chowders, chicken entrees, and seafood. As we waited to pick up an early evening takeout order we watched as the quoted wait for carry out on new orders steadily climbed from 30, then 45, then 60 minutes. Kitchen was slammed, and this place is popular both for to go and sit down customers. I observed that staff were efficient, great communicators, and I very much appreciated that my large order was looked over by the expo staff for accuracy. Standouts were the fried scallops, onion rings, wedge fries, and side salad. These were solid. Misses were the chicken tenders (under seasoned and dry), clam strips (too much breading and under seasoned), broccoli (over cooked). This is a solid neighborhood option that has a menu large enough to appease everyone in your party when you are craving American classics. It's not innovative or modern food - it's a well run neighborhood diner. read more

The food is very bland and the interior dated. I live in walking distance and will not return.

It's the second time I've been here in 15 years. The last time there was something on my glass, and surprisingly years later I had something on my glass again. I chose not to complain about it. I just wiped it off. It was something solid, not a water stain. It was in my water glass before I poured my water. I was in a large group and they gave us two servers. The servers were fantastic. The food was good. My husband's turkey was good, I tried a bite. It was no salty at all like a lot of restaurant turkey. The stuffing was a little overly salty, though. My fish was cooked perfect, and the mashed potatoes were yum. O would go back- I honestly can't believe I got dirty glasses twice with about 15 years in between, it had to be a strange fluke. But the service and the food will bring me back. Hopefully try 3 will be perfect, and I don't plan to wait another 15 years before I go back. read more

My husband and I have been getting our Saturday night takeout dinner here for about 4 months. Everything is fabulous. Just 1 thing I will say if ordering their lobster roll. I got mine mixed with mayo only, HOWEVER it was way toooo much mayo and sadly I just couldn't eat it. You get 2 options when ordering it online, I'd NOT get mixed with mayo, get it plain and mix it when you're ready to eat. If they say it's already mixed with it, unless you could eat spoonfuls of mayo, I would not get it that way. Otherwise, it had PLENTY of sweet tender lobster claw meat! My favorites is their haddock any way they do it, and their steak sub with all the veggies is best I've had around here. read more

I hadn't been here in years, a lot of years. It's still the same! Clam chowder was "fantastic". Scallops were plentiful and cooked perfectly. Broccoli overcooked. Chicken florentine special was tasty but served with powdered mashed. Desserts made in house were decadent and huge ( we got them to go). Pepsi products . Great service! Hands down, the BEST onion rings we've ever eaten. The smokiness of the clam chowder is unique and tasty. The seafood pie is good, but extremely rich. I decided to write this review as I have been to Fogarty's probably 10 times over the past 30 years or so, and it is consistently great and the prices are fair. The menu offers a wide variety of food and drink, and the bakery is out of this world! The service is excellent, too. We most recently had Torey as our server, who told us she was new, and she rocked it! I think she will do very well there. Lisa has been there for many years and is also a wonderful Server. We will continue enjoying this gem of a restaurant. read more

In an effort to try new places during the stay at home order due to COVID-19, we decided to give Fogarty's a try, it's a bit of a drive from our house but it was 100% worth it! We got the chicken tenders, my mom got the scallop/haddock nugget plate with onion rings and all were delicious. They have SO many different potato options as a side, regular fries, hand cut fries, wedges, steak fries, sweet potato fries, you name it they've got it and we tried them all! The only thing I didn't love was the sweet and sour sauce, I didn't hate it, but it was a little too watery for my liking. 5 stars for Fogarty's! Just damned good cooking. No molecular gastronomy or stuffy plating here, but solid good food. I could take my auntie to Fogarty's and we would both be comfortable. The menu is large, well priced and not fussy. Our server was attentive, helpful and steered us well when we asked questions about menu items. The bakery items looked so good-I wish I wasn't so stuffed from our meal so that I could have tried the grapenut pudding or cheesecake. Btw-there is a large amount of parking. In Portland, parking at restaurants is tricky, so that was sooo welcome! Looking forward to going back. Tip: Get the onion rings, and whatever you do, try the mozzarella sticks. Every year for the holidays my family gets the Fogartys Variety Cheesecake... and every year we are blown away by how good it tastes. Simply one of the best desserts, especially for gatherings. The cheesecake is so flavorful and it's nice to be able to sample all of the different slices. It's worth every penny! read more

Just disappointed, extremely disappointed with a long time family favorite. I'm in high hopes there is someone else working here with more knowledge about running a restaurant than the "manager" working on Saturday February 24th. My fiancé and I had ordered takeout dinner. Haddock Nuggets with fries , Lobster stew and Gorgonzola steak tip salad. Upon opening our dinner when we got home, we first noticed there was 2 small cups , one being the lobster stew and the other , we had no idea. No salad dressing , nor an extra side of dressing (as ordered ) OR a side of tartar sauce for the fried fish , in which we would obviously assume it would come along with. The mystery small cup contained WARM Gorgonzola chunks with dressing and a layer of butter? Or oil ? Layered on top. Terrible , whatever it was , it smelled and tasted awful. The lobster stew was basically lobster chucks/ pieces ( a fair amount ) soaking in that same hot buttery/oil. Our order looked very rushed and for almost $70 for two people , unacceptable. Taken back , as we've both gone to Fogartys for many many years , my fiancé decided to call. The "manager" was put on the phone and was not very apologetic .. A simple "oh I'm sorry , we will send out a gift card ". We ended up throwing everything away. About a week later we received the gift card .... $5.00. Five dollars ? It was honestly an insult. Being in the restaurant industry for over 15 years I'm baffled, I understand the shortage on staff and maybe a busy Saturday night .... but I could never dismiss a loyal customer so easily. read more

Usually all is pretty good there but today I ordered a Tuna Melt and it came with cold tuna n not melted cheese inside. It was more like a cold tuna sandwich on toast. It wasn't a real Tuna Melt at all. This was on Sunday about 1120 on Oct 27th 2024. Excellent waitress we had though. I try not to send things back but I won't order Tuna Melt again....afraid they won't do it up right so that it's tasty like a Tuna Melt should be. My two stars are just for my Tuna Melt. I thought I had already reviewed this GREAT establishment! Let's start out with dessert because that's the first thing I always order when I go there the strawberry pie is to die for... There's nothing else in the world like the strawberry cream pie and it's only in season. I often try to make it there during their seasonal time just for this pie. I also always get the seafood Alfredo because oh my God it is so so good so creamy and delicious I can't say enough about it!!! Started with taking us to a dirty table. ginger ale tasted like chemical. husband ordered a turkey club he liked it, i ordered turkey with cranberry. the turkey did not taste fresh, teh cranberry was not fresh cranberry more like canned, the stuffing tasted like old poop. there were flies around us, i would not ever return, tried a slice of the strawberry creak pie. super sweet and cheap tasting. read some positive reviews that is why we went. Solid American food - it reminds me of some of the better places one could find traveling back in the '80s, before higher end gastronomy became more widespread. The recipes were kinda primitive, but the kitchen did a good job preparing them. Nice staff, attentive and skilled. Comfortable, if ordinary, interior. Big menu. We started with a Caesar salad - slightly wilted Romaine, lots of shredded Parmesan, croutons (rye - with seeds), and a good quality commercial Caesar dressing. My spouse had the daily special wings - "garlic parmesan" - big wings, cooked properly, slathered in what was, for all intents and purposes, the sauce you'd get on Veal Piccata. - fairly strong garlic, lemon, and a bit of cheese. Tasty and uncommon - if beyond messy. The skin was crisp as the wings were delivered, though the sauce did sog much of it out by the end of the meal - par for the course with heavy sauce. I had a burger - gorgonzola and bacon - ordinary, but decent. Cooked medium rare as ordered, patty a bit thin and wide for my taste. Lots of gorgonzola and 2 strips of thick, nicely cooked, bacon. No veggies, nicely done fries (cornstarch coating for a bit of extra crispness). Desserts are made in house - we didn't eat any there but bought some from the bakery: good Indian Pudding with fresh whipped cream (whipped so hard it held up until the next day - but real); a slice of a very good New York style cheesecake; and a nice, if not exceptional, coconut cream pie. It was clear that the kitchen knew what it was doing, and (given inflation, covid etc.) prices were appropriate. read more

My boyfriend and I took my aunt out for a birthday dinner here, at her request, last month. I have driven through the Berwick's for years but have never driven by this restaurant, as it is a little off the beaten path. Right before the bridge into Rollinsford! They have their own very large private parking lot, outdoor benches for waiting, outdoor seating when the weather is nice, and plenty of indoor seating as well. Their menu is extensive, and whenever I see this I get a bit apprehensive, because I've been told time and time again a simple menu is a sign of a great restaurant, mastering a handful of items as oppose to doing just okay with a ton of items. Well, this place is the exception to the rule because every single thing on their extensive menu is excellent. I haven't tried it all yet, but my aunt has been here several times and has tried many different items and has loved them all. I got scallop Alfredo, and the sauce was absolutely out of this world, homemade, thicker, the best kind of Alfredo sauce. The dinner items are on the pricier side, but you get WAY more than one helping with a lot of the dinner options. Along with the bread they bring to the table and the dinner appetizer salad, I had enough food for about 2.5 meals. They also offer an array of cheesecakes and desserts (homemade!) that never fail to disappoint. An overall hit for sure. Thanks to Yelp we found this gem while passing through Maine. Since we were in lobster country my wife was craving a roll and was very satisfied with her "lazy style" choice. (Made with melted butter instead of mayo). I enjoyed a salad and a really tasty and buttery cup of clam chowder. My soup and salad came with garlic bread that was awesome. We took the In laws there today for Fathers Day. We had a reservation and got seated on time, even though it was a rather busy day there. My wife got a Chicken Teriyaki salad, my MIL got a bowl of clam chowder, which she raves about, whenever we eat here. Dad got broiled Scallops and I got the fried scallops. Each one of us were completely happy with our meals and even had to get to go boxes, as their portions are too big to eat in one sitting. Although we only generally eat here once a year, I pray someday to leave enough room for their desserts, as they are all made there and on display by the front door. On a side note, their cole slaw has tiny bits of pineapple added to it, and what a difference it makes. We were in South Berwick on business and picked Fogarty's for lunch. South Berwick is a very small town with just two commercial streets. Although there seems to be several eateries along Main Street, we picked Fogarty's for the New Englandish decor. Ok so the food.... my business partner had a burger with fries. Said it was good, but I noticed he didn't finish the fries. I had the Haddock Newburg, which came with soup and a side. I chose the New England Clam Chowder which did not disappoint. It was packed, and I mean packed with chopped clams. The Haddock Newburg? A different story. Not bad but I really expected more. A little dry and I couldn't taste any lobster sauce. If I almost forgot, our waitress "Candi" was fabulous so an extra star for her.
