Great find and very close to our hotel, the Aloft (350 yards). A nice casual Italian restaurant with great drinks, entrees, and pizza. Service was excellent, and our server spent quality time with us. There were a couple of families that were dining with young children, so it is very family friendly. The cost of drinks, appetizers, and two entrees was very reasonable. Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in downtown Sarasota. read more

I have been here just once. It was enough. I found the staff to be disinterested and unatentive. The food was expensive for the rather tasteless. The spaghetti and meatballs that I had was showed with runny, watery sauce that no self respecting Italian restaurant would serve. The meatballs were also flavorless. Simply the best. Great Italian is always tough to find, and Caragiulos delivers. We came for the Chicken Liver Pate which is a rare treat to find, that they execute exceptionally well. We shared a pizza with crust that had the perfect balance of flop and crunch. Dinner was a shared chicken Parm on angel hair. The presence of fresh herbs and quality bread where the stand out notes from the meal. Only critiques were the interesting choice of music made the ambience a little I'm imbalance. Top 40 music a little loud could of done for some more quite Italian music but now we're just splitting hairs. The overall experience was amplified by our lovely server Julie who gave amazing recommendations and kept our drinks full and our bell stuffed. We left happy and are eager to share this place with our fellow Italian food lovers. read more

The restaurant reached out to me and explained that the first Uber eats driver picked up the pizza and stole it since the next two Uber eats drivers to go pick it up said it was never claimed. Hopefully Uber eats takes care of this problem. We haven't actually eaten here, but I will definitely try their pizza next time we're in town and was impressed with their service and reaching out to me to explain the situation. Ordered a pizza off of Uber eats, well before closing time. An hour later it was "still being worked on". One, large pizza. The pizza never came. I now will never go in person even though their pizza pictures look fantastic. I just wish they wouldn't accept orders if they never planned on making it. read more

Last night we tried Caragiulos pizza and it was delicious! The issue was with the server who did not understood what we ordered and we got an extra pizza. We told the guy who brought the pizzas that we did not order the gluten free pizza and he took it back, but the server showed up again with the pizza and pushed it on us. It got to a point where she was sure we messed up the order and not her, even if it was clear that she did not do a recap at the end to make sure she got it. I remember the server asked us if ordering 2 pizzas and a salad would be enough for all of us, and we confirmed, but at the end she got us 3 pizzas and a salad! The cherry on the top was when, as a revenge, she handed me the bill instead of my husband. Please train the servers to: 1. Recap and confirm the orders with customers 2. Understand an acknowledge mistakes 3. Do not look for revenge with customers read more

Service was very good ,ambiance is average.Food was average. Sauce was too sweet for my taste, clams were chewy and chicken had a nutmeg flavor to it that caught us by surprise. Tiramisu was light and airy and the zeppolis were good but more like doughnuts. I asked for an espresso with sambuca. Sambuca was twice the amount as was the espresso. Caragiulos has a great downtown location with a small bar inside, lots of seating inside and outside as well. It was what I expected for a homogenized Italian dining experience. We had the mussels - very good spicy broth with spicy meatballs which gave it a lot of flavor. The Tortellini and Veal piccata were good as well. Not huge portions and service was as expected. I give it 3.5 stars as it's a good go to with quality food. Nothing overly amazing about the place, but a good standard for Italian. It wasn't great and nothing really stood out to me. Average pricing, bread was eh....I'm picky with Italian since I'm from Boston and NY and it's ok. read more

My husband's sister invited us to dinner here and normally I stray away from Italian places being vegan but I figured I'd give it a try for family. It was her second visit of the week there, so it must be good, right? I glanced at the menu on the way and saw there were vegan options and I figured I'd be fine with a salad. After arriving am looking a the menu, there were several vegan options. There were even options to sub chickpea pasta and cauliflower crust (which was also vegan!). My husband and I just decided to share a pizza, which I'm glad we did because we still didn't even finish it between the two of us. We ordered some broccoli (rabe) on the side for the baby but of course, I ate it because he preferred the complementary focaccia, which we confirmed was also vegan. Our server was great and she was super attentive. Overall, I'd highly recommend! May have even changed my mind on Italian food all together! So when visiting town for a wedding, we walked down the street from our hotel and found this awesome place. Apparently the whole town recommends this place for great Italian food and we know why. We sat down for a quick meal as we had rehearsals but oh my was the food yummy. The complimentary basket of bread (bruschetta) ... do not pass up the calories and carbs are worth it. We had a lovely waitress who took great care of us. We ended up ordering food to take back to our hotel on another night since we were craving it so bad. She remembered us and even gave us extra bread to take back. We tried the pizza and oh my . Definitely looking forward to going back when in town again. read more

In the afternoon of Sunday, June 8, 2025, my daughter arranged for my wife and I a 50th anniversary celebration at Caragiulo's Italian American restaurant in downtown Sarasota. There were seven of us, and our experience was as tremendously enjoyable as it was delightfully delicious. Our server's attention to us was not only impeccable but was personal and tuned to what she intuited we would enjoy most: Her recommendations were all spot on, especially the eggplant rollatini, which was the night's special; it was, as they say, "to die for." In addition, she was engaging with a wonderful sense of humor and always anticipated what we might want at the table. The restaurant's intimate atmosphere was perfectly suited to our small celebratory cohort. And the food.... From the tasty bread to the delectable appetizers to the savory main courses to the refreshing libations to the luscious desserts: Again, delicious. Place has been here since 1989 so I salute them for this. As a metro guy I generously give them 3 stars. We started with a simple cheese pizza that was cooked or baked perfectly. Taking a page out of One Bite I would give it a solid 7.2. We also had chicken parm with spaghetti 5.5 out of 10, ravioli a la vodka 4 out of 10 and a chicken Marsala 7 out of 10. Added broccoli rabe 2/10 and cauliflower 6.5/10. No need to have dessert. Service was spotty. read more

TodaY around 3 o clock I tried to make a reservation and they said that they were not taking any more reservations but that I was welcome to come a wait for them to seat us so we drove all the way from Lakewood ranch: once w got there my parents and daughter went inside of the restaurant and hostess said they were not taking any more people, the manager was called and my daughter tried to talk to him and ask him if he could talk to me I was on the phone trying to park. The manager yelled ant my 11 year old daughter and said no I can't talk to her very rude and mean. Thee are not many businesses that I can say I have been frequenting for over 34 years. And in this town there are not many restaurants that have been around for even 34 months. Caragiulos is one that has been here for the long haul and with good reason. When I want good old fashioned Italian comfort food this is my "go to" place. Sometimes just to sit at the bar, other times for special dinners with friends and family, but the Caragiulo family never disappoints. If I have guests in town it is always on our must go to roster. Great food, generous drinks and apres' dinner desserts and coffees served the way they should be. A new pizza oven makes the best margherita pizza in town, true to the original recipe.
