I asked the host what it represented and was told Chef Maddison sponsored Guide/Service Dogs and for each dog sponsored you receive an awesome statue. I was told he had others at his other locations. I thought this to be a part of MCG's way to give back to the community so I researched it. I found the programs to Be called Superhero's on Parade through Southeastern Guide Dogs. The bartender really went out of his way to create something unique based on what I was craving. I wanted something salty and savory, but didn't want another extra-dirty martini or a Bloody Mary. He took the challenge and came up with something that was absolutely on point! Overall, it was a really enjoyable birthday experience. Honestly, same. And the smell? My god. Somewhere between a luxury cologne ad and a fresh ocean breeze with notes of success and mystery. If they bottled that scent, I'd go broke trying to buy it. I'm still not convinced the entire restaurant doesn't smell better just because he's in it. Now, onto his management skills--impeccable. Smooth, attentive, effortlessly in control. I had already looked over the menu earlier that day and had decided on the lobster roll. I let our server know that I can't have chives and asked if they could simply be left off. She assured me it wouldn't be a problem. When our food arrived, it was immediately obvious that my lobster roll contained chives and/or green onions. I asked the food runner, who wasn't sure and said he'd go get our server. She came over, confirmed the mistake, and took the dish back without hesitation. No big deal- mistakes happen. A few minutes later, she returned to explain that the lobster mixture is actually pre-made with the chives already mixed in, so they couldn't be removed. She brought me another menu, and since everyone else was well into eating at this point, I ordered a burger, figuring it would be a quick replacement. Once again, I specifically asked that there be no onions or chives. The same food runner brought out my burger, and as soon as he set it down, my sister-in-law pointed out what looked like baked onions on the bun. He didn't say anything to that comment and I figured I'd wait to ask the server. But by that point, I was pretty frustrated and hungry, so I scraped off the top half of the bun and ate about a quarter of the burger. Everyone else had already finished their meals, and I was honestly just ready to call it a night. My husband ended up eating the half of the burger that hadn't been scraped apart and said it tasted fine. What surprised me most was the lack of any gesture to make things right. Our server remained kind and apologetic throughout the evening, and I don't fault her personally, but there is definitely à la k of awareness of communication that happened. We asked if the fried egg that comes with the dish was sunny-side up and were told no, it would be fully cooked and the kitchen would not accommodate a sunny-side-up egg. That seemed unusually inflexible, but we said fine and ordered it as is. When the food arrived, the chicken was clearly not blackened. It was pale, with virtually no visible seasoning. Our waiter actually tried to tell us that the blackening had "fallen off in the sauce." We've had blackened chicken many times, and this simply wasn't blackened. To make matters worse, the egg that was supposed to come with the dish was missing entirely. We asked for the manager, who looked at the chicken and agreed that the blackening had washed off agreed that it did not appear to be blackened. He took it back, and the kitchen eventually sent out properly blackened chicken. Fair enough. But then the manager returned and tried to insist that the kitchen said the original chicken had been blackened and the seasoning had somehow come off in the sauce, even though he had just agreed with us that there was no seasoning on it. I've order this exact dish before, this chicken was not blackened and it could not have been more obvious. We then asked about the missing egg. After another trip to the kitchen, the manager told us we weren't getting one because the kitchen had already scrambled it. We had never asked for a scrambled egg and the menu called for a fried egg, so that made no sense. Apparently, because they had already cooked the egg incorrectly, the kitchen refused to cook another one. I've never met a more weak manager, totally terrified of the kichen. At that point my husband had had enough and sent his meal back. What surprised us most was the manager's reaction. He didn't apologize, offer another dish, or ask if my husband wanted anything else. He simply said okay and walked away. A customer came in for dinner, ended up with no dinner at all, and the manager seemed completely unconcerned about it, and was happy to lose a customer rather than cook an egg. My tacos weren't much better. They arrived cold, and the pork was extremely dry. Thankfully I had ordered a side of guacamole, because otherwise the pork would have been almost impossible to eat. Even with that, I eventually gave up. Mistakes happen in restaurants, and we understand that. What made this experience so disappointing was the kitchen's complete inflexibility and the manager's unwillingness to resolve what should have been several very simple problems. Unfortunately, instead of enjoying dinner, one of us barely ate and the other ended up with no meal at all. Will they see us again? Highly unlikely.
