BEST BITES AT TOASTED YOLK!…read more Today, hubby and I stopped by Toasted Yolk, and I finally decided to give their Avocado Toast a try--and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint! It starts with a grilled slice of artisan bread, and of course, I requested sourdough because that's my favorite! Then comes a generous amount of mashed avocado. And when I say they don't cheat you on the avocado... they REALLY don't! It's topped with fresh pico de gallo and two eggs. I asked for mine over easy, so that beautiful yolk could do what it does best! It was served with a fresh spring mix salad, but you can substitute the salad for something else if you prefer. Everything was delicious, and our waitress Harley was absolutely the BOMB! She was friendly, attentive, and made our visit even better. Great food + great service = a winning combination! Now I want to hear from YOU! What's your favorite go-to at Toasted Yolk? Give me some suggestions for my next visit! #tastefullyhettyb #BestBites #ToastedYolk #AvocadoToast #BreakfastBites #BrunchBites #EatLocal #SETXFoodie

This particular visit this location was out of numerous beverage choices and some of the meat choices.... I'm sorry! Did we surprise you by coming in to eat breakfast??? Based on server suggestion, I ordered deep fried hash browns. They were fried in chicken batter & extremely spicy! I definitely would NOT recommend. The ONLY POSITIVE out of this visit was time with family and the waitress tried her hardest to make things right with the options she was given. One was her suggestion for my desired order of bacon, "Bacon done the way the owner likes is - SPOT ON! " Not entirely sure that I'd visit this location again, as I don't live in Texas.... But I've been told there aren't too many good places to eat in close proximity to this town! That unfortunately Sounds about right from my experiences!

I love the Hunny. Someday that love may become mutual again. And with today being Valentine's…read moreDay, it's a time for both to express that love to each other, especially going out to eat. And because we can't do like a recent country song and have a fancy date night at Applebee's - the nearest Applebee's is 100 miles away - we did something a little different while the girl was at school: we drove to China. No, I'm not kidding; Southeast Texas has a town of 1,200 named China. And we ate at the Diamond S Diner. Some proprietors try to be stereotypical in their presentation. Others just be natural, this is who they really are. You get the sense that those who own & operate Diamond S have set it up like they really are, a cafe to eat your breakfast or dinner (note to outsiders: "dinner" is actually lunch, and "supper" is actually dinner.) There's a mural of rolling Western hills, a few longhorn skulls, an 80 year-old Dr Pepper decoration, calendars for the Hardin Jefferson HS sports teams, framed newspaper clippings, and country music on the stereo. And wooden tables to eat at. This is NOT Applebee's. The menu is a double-sided 8.5x11 piece of paper, that's how casual this place is. The Hunny had a large chicken fried steak, which may not be in her eating plan, but she made a point to finish it all instead of getting a to-go box, she liked it that much. I had a double meat cheeseburger, and the taste of the tomatoes and onions was overwhelmed by the beefy, meaty taste of two quarter-pound patties. Pork and catfish are also available. This is a place for carnivores. Prices are normal. Service was prompt and friendly. It didn't stand out as top-notch, but that wasn't necessary here anyway. She was what you'd expect in a little restaurant in a tiny Texas country town. Great food, great atmosphere, great service - it all adds up to a five-star experience. China is several minutes drive on the old highway west of Beaumont, on the way to such "destinations" as Liberty and Dayton, so it's nearly certain that you'd need to make a special trip to eat at the Diamond S Diner. Believe me, it's worth the trip. Including on Valentine's Day.

When I called to see why, I was told that there was really no good reason for being so late. It was set up sideways, so what should have been the front was on the side. The back of the cake had white icing, but looked like they ran out of icing and the remainder of the icing was a cream color. Also trying to get in touch with Dena was impossible. After paying the deposit, we tried for months to reach her to set up an appointment to discuss what we wanted. We called, left messages, sent emails and got no response. She finally responded when I left a message asking what the balance was. Sadly, I would not recommend.

There were no schools for cakes or YouTube tutorials like there is today. In the kitchen chasing around three children, the youngest of which was a year old, she started her craft. From such a humble beginning her business was born, and since 1995 she has continued to grow her talent and vision. Recently I had to honor of seeing her fulfill her lifelong dream of opening her business in a brick and mortar location over at The Silos. I cannot think of a more deserving person. She has made my wedding cake, my husband's grooms cake, and many birthday cakes for my daughter. Even when we've frozen and thawed leftover cake it has still been very soft and moist, never dry. I've always been a fan of supporting local businesses, but this one holds a special place in my heart.
