Overall a wonderful park - lots of PLAYGROUNDS for all ages, TENNIS COURTS, nice walking paths, big grass areas, and public RESTROOMS throughout the park. The playgrounds are so much fun for our kids and it is also a great space for picnics too. There is a lot of parking here and it's never too busy. Only downside is that you have to pay $3 to $5 to get in but it is well worth it. Definitely one of our top favorite parks to bring the family. read more

I looked for walking spots in the Brea area and this park popped up. There was a bit of a line to get in on Memorial Day and the cost for parking on a holiday was $7. The display also showed $5 for weekends and $3 midweek. We wanted to do the Redwood trail and were directed to parking lot A. The park is big and beautifully landscaped with a pond and various picnic areas that can be rented in advance. There is enough space to set up all kinds of games. We brought a picnic lunch and sat on a bench that was perfectly situated alone amongst the desert plants. After lunch, we followed the signs for the Redwood Grove Trail which was labeled as easy and is a 1.5 miles dirt trail to the Redwood trees. When you arrive you'll see a small Redwood forest with the history of the trees displayed before you enter. A really beautiful and peaceful spot to relax for a bit. On our way back we decided to take the Creek Trail to see where it would lead us. I was hoping to see water at the end of this trail. But, we only saw a bunch of rocks at one point that may be filled with water if it rains. The end of this trail did lead us to a beautiful butterfly garden and the opposite end of the park. We made the walk back and stopped at the pond. There appeared to be other trails surrounding the park and a trail that leads to the Carbon Canyon Dam. read more

Have a few playgrounds along w some gazebo available with picnic tables under the gazebo. It's a pretty nice clean park. With lots of trees, shadings and a great walking cemented sidewalk. You can walk from Carbon Canyon Park to go see the beautiful Redwoods. Lots of tennis courts available at this park. There is a parking fee since it's a regional park. read more

I think it was $10 to park, but it was worth it. You do have to pay a re-entry fee if you leave. This is a nice park, plenty of things to do and see, like a lake, sports area, walking trails, and more, but the highlight for me was the hike to the redwood grove. I imagine in a few hundred years you will have a mini king's canyon or sequoia national park going on there when the redwoods get even bigger. I think the sign said the 241 trees were planted in 1970, so 50 years and growing bigger everyday. The redwood area was pristine, serene, and dreamy on a cold, damp, foggy morning. The sun came out just as we were getting over to the park, but a mile away you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you. On the way to the redwoods there is a sign about photographs, and only for personal use without a permit. We were there about 9 am on a Sunday and there were at least 6 or 7 professional photos shoots going on. Pretty popular place. My gut tells me none of them had a permit. There were small and large family shoots, maternity shoots, engagement shoots, birthday shoots, all kinds of photo shoots going on and why not, the area is perfect for photo shoots. 1st time at this park and it is so pretty. There is a $5 fee for entry. It has a beautiful lake , grassy areas, picnic tables, and playgrounds. My Boys enjoyed some baseball on the grass. We had a mini photoshoot by the lake. it was such a great Sunday. Not too busy. We found out after about the short hike here, so we will definitely be coming back. read more

What a fun place to hike! It's pretty big, there are multiple playgrounds for different ages, multiple places for different sports, a decent-sized lake in the middle that allows fishing, a butterfly garden, and lots of unique hiking areas. My kids loved the paved paths for scootering. They also loved the playgrounds - there's plenty of shade around them as well. We hiked Redwood Grove, and what a nice little treat in SoCal! As long as you're not going there expecting Sequoia-sized trees, it's a great place to explore and take in the scenery. The hike to get there is pretty easy, and there are signs that explain more about the area as well. I saw some bikers, so I think there's a bike path that also leads to the grove - not 100% sure though. We also enjoyed the butterfly garden. When we walked the area, there were people doing what looked like a wedding photoshoot. There are lots of plants, and a couple of nice walkways that run through. We saw 12 butterflies in the area! It's pretty well maintained. They also have a Junior Ranger program - see website for details because it only occurs on certain days. read more

Surprisingly I had never heard of this park before until I asked Gemini for places in the area that could be good for a evening walk near a lake. Parking is $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. The park is large and beautiful. There's a little lake, picnic tables, a playground, and a side hike (level easy) that features a little redwood grove. I'm not sure if I explored everything Carbon Canyon has to offer, maybe there's even more, but everything I did see was quite lovely. The highlight here is the redwood grove that some dedicated individuals have managed to nurture by into a mature grove, very impressive. Whenever I start to feel overwhelmed by life I know it's time to pause and take a couple hours out of my day to be in nature to reset. I'm fortunate to live in Southern California where we are close to the ocean and there are even a handful of places that we can go to be close to Redwood trees. Carbon Canyon is one of those places. I don't mind paying to visit this park because I understand the funds are needed to keep the park maintained and the rangers paid. I like going at off-peak times so I can find some peace near the redwoods and sit on a bench and just listen to the wind blowing through the branches and leaves of the trees. Unfortunately it's very common to see people acting selfishly here because while there are signs near the tree grove that advise visitors on what to do and not do around the these magestic trees, these entitled people don't take the time to read the signs or don't care about the well being of the trees and prioritize getting the perfect photo for their holiday card or whatever. I do worry that one day we may lose access to this area and the privelege to walk among these trees. The park is quite large and offers many areas to picnic on the grass, near the lake, by play areas and there are various walking trails. read more

This park has a nice easy trail. Also has a big park and a duck pond for the kids. There are some walking paths around the park so you could bring a bike, skateboard scooter etc. Steer clear of the grass unless you don't mind stepping in geese poo. read more

Came here for birding and was very pleased with everything we found! Parking is $5 on Saturday and the attendant was very helpful and friendly. There is plenty of parking and restrooms and porta-potties (near the trails). We parked near the back and followed the red wood trail. The redwoods were really cool! Never knew they existed here. At first, we did not see many birds. But when we walked around towards the entrance where the geese are, we saw many different ones in the trees. The coolest finds were a Red-Shouldered Hawk perched on a tree branch, a Downy Woodpecker, the very colorful Egyptian Goose, and the beautiful and bright Western Bluebird! read more

Carbon Canyon Regional Park spans 124 acres and is home to Southern California's only grove of redwoods. Parking is $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. There are multiple parking lots throughout the large park so there is ample parking everywhere. The main park has five playgrounds, eight tennis courts, two baseball fields, three volleyball courts, multiple covered shelters with grills, plenty of grassy areas, and a 4 acre lake in the middle for fishing. Outside of the main park area are multiple dirt trails. To get to the redwoods, go down the coyote pass and follow the markers for the redwood grove. Fortunately it's only a 1.1 mile short hike to see the redwood groves. You don't need hiking shoes to walk through but I'd definitely recommend closed toe shoes. The park has tons of restrooms and is well-maintained throughout. It was peaceful walking around the park and watching the ducks near the lake. It's great for picnics and gatherings as well as strolls and running. There are plenty of things to do, whether you just use the park or the trails or both. read more

One of our favorite parks to go to around here! My best friend from childhood came down to visit with us today such a treat with her two kids so baby girl and them can play and we could catch up. My husband drove and she had the bikes on her car so the kids could ride their bikes here. We brought chairs so we can sit down and we can relax and let the kids play since they have playgrounds all around. They had a lot of geese out today which was beautiful. They came around the playground and were hanging out with us then a little squirrel came to visit me again maybe he remembers me from my last photo here lol. It was beautiful out not busy at all. We had a nice time catching up and talking. We all had a great time at the park. Even though I'm hurting so badly it was worth it to spend the day outside with my best friend husband and our kids. I absolutely love this park it is so peaceful here. If you've never been, I highly recommend you come try this part out on the weekends. It's five dollars during the week. It's three dollars so we had to pay the three dollar fee today to get in but they have a lot of parking around. They have a nice hike in the back to the redwoods which we didn't go on today because my legs were hurting too bad so we just sat down and enjoy the beautiful day :) Thank you for keeping this park so clean and pretty for everyone to enjoy and for friendly service when we arrive. Always nice to have a peaceful getaway within the city for fresh air and get back into nature. And Carbon Canyon Regional Patk has it all. A small lake surrounded by well cut grass, playground for the little ones, covered bbq areas, three volleyball courts, and tennis courts. My fav, a fun hiking trail that leads up the old Brea Dam where you can catch views of the OC and another trail that leads into the Redwood Forest, to cool from the sun and relax. This park is fantastic! On the weekends, it's usually $5 entry for a car load. This money is put to great use maintaining the grounds, play areas, and multiple restrooms. I was extremely upset by the Redwood Grove by no fault of the park itself. It was the other visitors who were at fault. Many people were taking professional photos, climbing on the base of the trees, picking off bark, and I even saw a visitor carving into the trunk of a tree! Maybe some game cameras could be installed in the area to help deter misuse and destruction of the space? read more

We came here to see the small redwood grove at the bottom of the canyon. It's a step hike down from the neighborhood where we parked our cars. It was very peaceful in the groove. There's a small dirt loop that goes around the grove with a wooded boardwalk trail through the middle. It's an easy hike, except for the climb down and back up, for those who might have mobility issues. read more

I've been coming here many years esp bc it's a local spot & it really feels like a real hike & not just a park although it does have a park area separate from the hiking trail. I love bringing my friends here for their first time & they enjoy it bc of the scenery. I would say it's an easy hike for an avid hiker like me but can be an easy/moderate for those that don't hike at all bc it has a few small inclines but it's completely doable for family & kids.The total distance for the trail is about 3.5 miles if you complete the entire trail. There is only 1 shaded area where there are redwood trees but the rest is open & I would definitely recommend wearing a hat & sunblock bc it can get very hot during summer time. Parking is spacious but they charge parking fee. Not sure how much on a weekday but it's $5 on weekends. read more

Poison Hemlock lines trail leading to the redwoods. The redwoods are beautiful and worth the walk. Avoid touching the Poison Hemlock which can cause welts on skin or death if eaten. Purple and green stems on white flowers are indicating this is poison hemlock. Water on a small area near end of trail is near poison hemlock and should also be avoided. The Redwoods are gorgeous! Many lovely birds. Just beware even among them some small sprouts of poison hemlock is growing. The signage explaining the redwoods is fascinating. It is lovely. Stay safe and warm kids because there is no signage indicating the danger explicitly. read more

This is in a forest like area of Brea. There is a fee to get in, and you have options for many parking lots. There are many photo opportunities with the huge trees. The elevation was not much but the views were amazing. Some many huge trees and a tour of the park and the pond on the end of our trail. I did not see too many trash cans but I did see water fountains on our trail. There was one specific area where people loved taking pictures, if you go while many people are there, you will know. When I exited, I was on a quite road, but I had quick access to all the city areas. There is a nice coffee shop nearby, call ahead for hours. read more

This is a spacious, well-maintained park with an entry fee ($3 on weekdays as of this writing). I came specifically to walk the trail to see the Redwood Grove. The trailhead is located at parking lot A and there is plenty of signage along the trail to guide you to the Grove. It is mostly flat and an easy walk (I wouldn't even call it a "hike") that took me less than 15 minutes at a leisurely pace. The Redwood Grove itself is beautiful but not a large area. Don't expect the mighty Redwoods of Northern California. These trees are more slender yet tall. You can feel the temperature decline as you walk beneath their shade. There is a wooden fence to guide you along a trail through the Grove but there are several benches off the trail where one can sit and become one with nature. What I loved most was the smell...the scent of the Redwoods. There were probably a dozen people either sitting or quietly walking through the Grove while I was there. All was zen until a couple of young people entered the area with a boombox playing tunes; not loud but it still spoiled the atmosphere of enjoying quiet and natural sounds of the small forest. That prompted me to leave a little sooner than I wanted. Note: one part of the trail labeled as "Coyote Pass" takes the visitor across Carbon Canyon Creek which is usually dry but, as there had been heavy rains the prior week, there was water flowing on the day I was there (and thus some barricades were in place with "trail closed" signs that were ignored by rebels like me). The stream was small and only an inch high at the deepest point so was simple to gently slosh through. read more

I been coming to chino hills for years on Fridays and always parked at the discovery center. Well one day they were late opening the gate to parking so decided to turn my car around and head over to this area entrance. Let me tell you. It was the best decision ever. This park opens at 7am and parking is cheap. $2 on weekdays and $5 on the weekends for all day parking. I parked and walked over to the trail to start my run and after my run I noticed a photographer taking family pictures. This is a great family space with plenty of parking and great walking trails for all. I'm looking forward to start exploring more of this place. read more

This has become my favorite park recently. I try to avoid parks that have parking fees, but that hasn't stopped me from coming here almost every weekend for past six weeks. I honestly don't even mind paying the fee because this park is clean and well-maintained. It' such a serene, peaceful park with family friendly hiking trails, one of which leads to OC's only grove of redwoods. Trail entrance is at the back of the park by the unpaved, gravel parking lot. You can take the regular trail, or the wider, less shaded trail on outer perimeter. I recommend just taking the regular trail, which is the one most people take. It's such an easy hike, even my little kids can do it. There are few other trails but I haven't tried any of them yet. In terms of amenities, it has sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, several playgrounds, picnic shelters, BBQ area, 4-acre lake with two piers for fishing, ball fields, and equestrian trail. At the moment parking is $3 on weekdays, $5 on weekends, and $7 on holidays. read more

Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea is one of our favorite regional parks. The park is beautiful, well-maintained, and easy to hike. We parked our cars at lot A and then walked the trail to see Redwood Grove. Parking fees: $3 per vehicle entry Monday - Friday; $5 Saturday - Sunday; the fees are higher for some holidays and events. The nature trail to the park's beautiful Redwood Groves is about 1.1 miles. Once you enter Redwood Grove, the temperatures drop 10 degrees immediately. The park has five playgrounds, eight lighted tennis courts, two ballfields, three volleyball courts, and a native plant garden that offers fun outdoor recreational opportunities for the whole family. You can also go fishing with a license if you're 16 years or older. It's such a peaceful park to walk with my family and my dog. read more

Came here for a baby's birthday party and it was very nice! The park itself is huge with multiple playgrounds, a pond and tons of wildlife like birds, ducks and geese. Our party hosts mentioned that it was $200 to reserve the cabana space for their party and $70 per 2 vendors-- they had a food vendor, face painter and photobooth vendor and all 3 had plenty of space to set up what they needed. You do have to pay for parking... I think it's about $20 to park there. We've visited this park several times and have been all over it and it's always a nice, well-maintained space that feels very safe. read more
