I went in a while ago but honestly had a really terrible experience and I feel I need to warn others about this place. It was my first time in and I haven't had a haircut in a while because of a previous experience at a different salon that left my hair in not the best condition. I went in hoping to get some help and advice about what I could do better. I was uncomfortable the entire time I was in the chair. First my hairdresser came over and introduces herself briefly, she then comes back over with an intern. Never asked me if the intern could be apart of my appointment and barely talks to me during the duration of my appointment. She then said I had some discoloring and should think about doing some color, and at the beginning I mentioned to her about my previous bad experience with color and that I was not at all interested in doing color but made that comment anyway. Her and the intern exchanged looks and then went back to talking about my hair as tho I wasn't there. I also specifically told her I could not have my hair too short in the front because I have a kitchen job and need to be able to pull all my hair back, did that happen? No, I left feeling dismissed, unhappy with my hair and out $75 bucks. Overall I DO NOT RECOMMEND!! read more

I've been here twice, and I'm usually left feeling like they don't really understand how to do men's haircuts. Probably my mistake for going to a place that seems mostly oriented toward women's cuts and coloring, but this has been the only place I could go last minute that wasn't a Supercuts. Asked for no length to be removed but for some texture and layering to be added and for some weight to be removed. The stylist I was working with didn't even want to touch the sides and was mostly focused on the top and back. She did remove a good amount of weight, but something about the cut seems unbalanced and a little shorter than I had it before. I can't put my finger on what's wrong with the cut, and unfortunately neither could they. I'm left with a cut that I'll let grow out for a few weeks before I return to a different stylist, because something is off about this one. read more

When my normal colorist moved out of state a friend recommended Carbon. I typically touch up my roots at home between highlight appointments and it's never been an issue but my stylist and her coworker kept telling me or talking to each other about how they didn't know how my hair would come out because of the box color. I had to sign something as well. I've been highlighting and doing root touch ups for 20+ years and I've never had an experience where I felt so weird and embarrassed about it. I've also never had to sign anything or had multiple discussions about how there would be no way to predict the result. Respectfully, that's a discussion to have once with the client and then only again if you need to with a colleague privately. It felt so strange and embarrassing and I won't be going back. read more

I understand the need for a policy to ensure that appointments do not go unfilled, but the curtness and unwillingness to consider even listening to the circumstances is very off-putting. The salon itself is just what you'd expect in this price range. Lots of young stylists, trendy atmosphere, etc. However, I can't recommend this business based on my experience. My wedding hair was unapologeticly ruined and it cost me over $700. Then I had to pay someone else to fix it. Now my formerly unbleached, 20" long hair has the texture of hay. I found a picture with the color and style I like and wanted it duplicated as closely as possible. At this point, Whitley never gave me any indication she was uncomfortable with bleaching hair. She informed me the style I wanted would need to be bleached over two sessions. I said no problem. I was satisfied with my first result and Whitley seemed friendly. She even took pictures. The second time I came in she didn't have any notes on what we did to my hair, which was worrying. I showed her the picture again and she got to work. I like to let stylists do their thing so I never questioned her. During this session she complained about blonde hair being difficult, not being a blonde specialist, and how she was a wild color specialist. While she was bleaching my hair, she told me she doesn't know the secrets to making blonde look perfect the way blonding experts do. I'm not sure why she didn't refer me to someone else to start with. I didn't receive any redirection or guidance when I scheduled the appointments either. When we were done it still didn't look like the picture I brought in so I was confused. I thought maybe it's my straight hair or the lighting. So when she asked if I wanted my hair curled (rather than just doing it as part of the service like the first visit) I said yes. She didn't bother taking pictures this time because my hair looked awful and nothing like the picture. But even still, I went home thinking maybe I'm wrong, maybe it will grow on me. After having several blondes friends compare the picture with my hair, I reached out to Whitley. I don't like telling people I don't appreciate their work. I have never asked a stylist to fix their in my life before. On the phone it seemed like she understood and everything was cool. When I arrived for the final time, I had the worst salon experience I've had in 20 years. I referenced the picture again. She told me I was wrong, that my hair looked like the picture and she stood by her work. She didn't apologize or even try to break the tension with chat. Why not just give me the hair I'm describing rather than debate me about the picture? At one point I thought she was talking to me and I answered her. She snapped "I wasn't talking to you." What is this, middle school? When she was finished she didn't say anything but "ok, you're done" as she walked away. Other than that, she didn't say anything to me. She didn't offer to style my hair. She didn't ask me what I thought. In addition to how rudely I was treated, my hair never ended up even close to the picture. I should also mention she had a trainee following her around the whole time who also never acknowledged me. At no point in any of these sessions was I anything but kind. I even bought all the products she recommended and gave her a generous tip each time. I have serious doubts about a salon that supports this sort of behavior enough to have a person this condescending training others. read more

The first time I met my stylist she did a ok job, I did ask her to make sure she covered all the gray grow out, I was assured she got it all. I got home and noticed she missed all the grow out on the sides and under my color! So when I went back on Jan 6th I once again stated please make sure you you cover all the gray grow out underneath and pulled my hair up to show her and the sides. The salon is very dark on the inside and it is very hard to see what your hair actually looks like! The owner should address this!! When I got home, once again I checked my hair, all the areas I told her about were once again missed. The toner that was used turned my blonde, made my hair purple for 2 weeks and my hair cut was horrible! I'm not going back ever again! Not paying someone over $200.00 to mess my hair up!! read more

When I booked my appointment I was told that I would be seeing an apprentice who might need some help from a master hair stylist, but they were WRONG! Sierra was an amazing stylist! She understood exactly what I wanted and explained the different styles and techniques so well. I have a condition that makes me almost faint, and although it is rare, it acted up while at the salon. They were very responsive and let me lay down on one of the beds in another room. Sierra offered to finish my hair another day, but the next day she was working I was busy so she came in on her day off just to make sure my hair looked good. She complimented me many times on my hair color, and asked if she could curl it. She thought it would look great curled and she was right! This salon not only has good hair stylists, but hairs stylists that actually love what they do. For me, that makes all the difference. This is based not only on the positive experience of going to the salon and getting a great cut from Amanda, but also from the responsiveness and follow through I got from the business owner. Within about an hour of leaving the original review, I received a call from the business owner Richard. He was in the middle of a crazy day personally (they had a pet emergency), and yet he made the time to follow up with me, hear me out, and take some steps to improve both my experience and the business itself. He made steps to change: --The wording of how they tell customers that they need to put a card on file to reserve their appointment. Apparently there was a misunderstanding; the receptionist had intended to tell me that I needed to put a card on file 24 hours within *making* the appointment, not 24 hours prior to the appointment itself. Now it makes sense why I showed up on Monday when they were closed! --Their email signature to include their hours anytime an email is sent out by their staff. If I had seen that, I probably would have known to not come in on Monday! I noticed that their website is still a bit outdated, but overall they were extremely receptive to feedback. This was especially encouraging to see since they are a privately owned local Longmont salon, and they are doing amazing work here. I was pleasantly surprised when I called and was able to get an appointment for a cut & color within a few days! Upon my arrival, I realized why Christine had availability. She ran 30 minutes late and was unapologetic until prompted and never bothered to introduce herself either. I let her know what I wanted and she began to work. She took this opportunity to continue to verbally assault me. "Have you ever had your hair done professionally"? "Have you ever thought about extensions"? "Have you ever had a glaze"? I answered "yes" to all of the above, wishing that I was back at Ulta with the sweet girl who had been doing my hair the last year. If your blond and get your hair done every 6-8 weeks or have ever worked in the industry, you know these were incredibly rude questions, asked in a very rude and exasperated tone. They were in no way communicated in an educational or helpful way. At checkout she thrust a little gift bag at me and finally apologized for running late. The bag contained a travel size shampoo and conditioner. Ummm...what about the indignant behavior? Or when she literally and very aggressively snatched a hair brush out of my hand a flung it into her caddy? Bottom line if you go to Carbon, I would not recommend CHRISTINE. She runs late, is rude, incredibly poor at communicating, aggressive and not someone you will enjoy spending time with. read more

I went Carbon Salon to have a base color put all over and then highlighted. I also wanted the back and sides trimmed. I questioned the order in which Elle was coloring my hair and she told me that was the way she had always done it. It did not turn out highlighted, but looks all one color. I also questioned the base color she recommended because it had a gold undertone which I new would turn out brassy. I only wanted the sides and back of my hair trimmed, but she said she would just shape up the top a little. The whole haircut turned out a lot shorter than I wanted. This is a very expensive salon and I expected to get what I asked for. I would not return. read more

When I decide to pay a professional to do a job, I try to stay out of the way to let them do what they do best. And I'm SO happy I did that with Kira Mahan at Carbon! I came in with long, dark hair that hadn't been cut in over a year with a way-too-blonde, messy bleach job on the ends. Oh, and chunky DIY bangs. I just wanted it to look better and I knew I wanted a balayage, so that's all the direction I gave Kira. She nailed it! Kira did some color correction to get the over-bleached parts to match my natural color, added a balayage, and gave me a cut and style. I was in the salon for nearly 5 hours. We also took before and after photos which the stylist shared with me. Kira is easy to talk to but not chatty or catty. In fact, I didn't hear a gossipy word from a single stylist in the salon. That might not seem important but it really makes the atmosphere feel more friendly when you're there for half your day. Speaking of atmosphere, the salon is bright, not overly roomy but not overly crowded, and they don't blast the mix of modern and older music they play. Pricing is probably on the high end for the Longmont area, but it's on par with a salon of similar caliber in Denver and actually probably a little cheaper than Boulder. They do sell a smallish selection of higher-end hair products you can purchase. This is *the* salon to go to in Longmont if you want an on-trend look, especially balayage. I was in Carbon approximately one month ago with a picture in hand as to how I wanted my hair to look. I also wanted about 3-4 inches taken off and a wash and style. I won't mention names but I got none of that no wash, no 3-4 inches off and in spite of the picture she asked if I wanted it layered to which I said "I am not a stylist but I want it to look like the picture". They are not the cheapest salon in town and you have mandatory tipping starting at 20%. so I paid almost $100.00 for nothing. Absolutely do not waste your time or money. Stephanie canceled my consultation to get my extensions moved up 20 minutes before my appointment. I let it slide because I have my Dads wedding in a week and already had a different salon mess up my appointment. Didn't have time to go elsewhere. They just called me again saying that she had a headache and they wouldn't fit me into her schedule for two weeks. I broke two bones in my wrist last night and was still sticking to my c commitment. I also work my job through migraines. This salon seems great with lower prices than other salon. But, there is an absolute reason for it. I was at the Salon on 3/23 for the 1st time after reading the reviews here for a single process color. I arrived at 1:10pm for a 2 hour appointment start was at 1:00pm. The few mins delay was because I was on the other side of the apartment bldg. However, Christina the stylist I was booked with hurried me to her chair. Here are the few details of the interaction that came from a place of complete lack of understanding my needs: (1) Christina rushed me and without even taking time to assess my hair just jumped on to creating a color called "Express". She told me that this color line colors in 15 mins vs 50 mins. I asked whether I should have had a choice in picking express vs 50 min color. She quickly got to coloring and putting the color. (2) The color had exceptionally high ammonia smell and she was quick to talk vs listen on how the smell was impacting me. Her version was that all colors have ammonia and I do not know if any color does not have ammonia and we are not an organic salon. (3) Once the color was applied, my scalp was burning so it was washed out quickly thanx. She offered to add another chemical solution to remove the color, the color is on my skin and side locks now. She over-all had a negative energy with a bad attitude rushing without any care for me as a client. Manager came-in but was quick to listen but I do not know if she really understood with what happened here. Overall, this is my first time writing a bad review and very disappointed with the salon. I wonder if this is a case of micro aggression and whether she would do the same to a white woman. I leave the salon to reflect on this together and see how this interaction could have been made different and whether this micro-agression could be a discrimination that needs further deep reflection. read more

I love this place, has been my spot for four years throughout college. Great stylist and vibe and good prices. However, I'm disappointed with their costumer service. My appointment was scheduled weeks in advanced for a wedding and I got a call two days before my appointment telling me the stylist is unavailable and no one else was either. I understand emergency's happen, but to leave a client high and dry a week before a wedding I have to be in is ridiculous. No other salons have availability's this short notice and now I'm left frantically trying to find anyone to do my hair. If they had called and offered a discount on my next color even if they couldn't get me in I would be less inclined to leave a negative review, but there was no offer to try and find a way to fit me in even though I have had this appointment booked for weeks and have been a loyal customer for years. Dissatisfied and disappointed. Bottom line, be careful because you might get left with no appointment days before an event. read more

It looked so cute that I didn't know if I could pull it off but I'm obsessed!! She was so thoughtful and kind, really listened to my concerns and also gave me lots of good advice on how to save my poor damaged hair. Not only is Heather extremely personable and easy to spend a 4 hour hair appointment with, she was incredibly accommodating and I trusted being in her hands. I hit the jackpot with a last minute appointment while on TDY to Colorado. Lauren Voss did a great job of giving me that color lift I needed for my tired hair. I have been toying around with the idea of the baylage technique for some time but have not found the right hair dresser in DC. My color is absolutely beautiful. She cleaned up a recent bad haircut and cut my style for versitilty. The entire salon experience was amazing. I also love that I can have a standing appointment with a Lauren every five weeks when I come to town. Grab her while she still has a few openings for new clients.
