We ran in but its super tiny especially the parking lot. Ut really looked discouraging or challenging because we were in a rush. How ever we found the fresh homemade green salsa aka CHILE VERDE ready to go. Right next to the red salsa aka salsa roja next to GUACAMOLE. Yup ready packed to go. I was very pleased with the flavor as ut was used for our brunch with eggs. If you are patient and do not do my mistake of trying to rush. Consider everything all worth it. We bought seasoned flap-meat for Carne Asada, that we put on the grill at home. I thought it was a little pricey, but it was the best Carne Asada I've ever had! Got some chips and sauces too. The "mild" red sauce was way too spicy. The guacamole was more like a thin avocado-tomatillo sauce than a standard guacamole, but it was very tasty. The green sauce was good, and fortunately not as spicy as the red. The ceviche was very different from any I've had before. Reminded me more of a shrimp cocktail, as it contain no lime, and shrimp seem to be pre-cooked. But it was very good and I would buy it again. Service was great and everything was fresh. read more

We got a small group order with family and tried this place for the first time and it was very good! I wasn't sure what expectations I had, but they surpassed them. Our order was a chicken burrito, California burrito and carne asada fries and the fries (my order) were great! The meat actually had a lot of good flavor and I enjoyed both the red and green salsas. I think the red one was a little spicier but neither one was spicy enough to knock you out. My husband had the chicken burrito and he said he enjoyed it as well. The place was a little tricky to find (we had called our order in) but it was fairly easy once in. You get your food near the meat counter and pay at the front. It didn't take too long and the food was still hot when we got home. All in all, this was a great find in the desert and we will be back to check out the little shop items (Mexican candy, the meat market, small groceries, etc). read more

This is a no fuss very simple Mexican market with a small meat counter that offers tacos and burritos. I stopped in to grab something for dinner while waiting on my sisters to arrive at our hotel. I was happy to see that they made chili relleno burritos. My grandmother and mother made the best chili rellenos and it's been a long while since I have had one. There was a little hiccup when I ordered with the man at the counter. I specifically asked for a burrito con chili relleno, and he somehow wrote me up for a bean and cheese. Maybe this is because I do not look Mexican and he didn't think I knew what I was ordering? I still don't understand how this was lost in translation. But when I caught the mistake the woman that was at the register let the kitchen know and I got what I had ordered. And I am soooo glad I did. It was seriously the best chili relleno I have ever had. Even better that my nana's and that is saying something! I wish I had stayed in town long enough to come back again because I wanted to try more food and maybe just have another burrito. We are vegetarian but often ordered food to go from this place for about a year and it was decent. The previous time we went about a month ago, meat was added to our food incorrectly even though we ordered in Spanish. Today we went back and ordered to go. My husband and I were walking back home and decided to check the order. It was incorrectly prepared again. Meat all over the nachos we ordered with NO carne. VEGETARIANO. Husband walked all the way back and got our nachos re-made and yep...they made it wrong again! Just as a little fck you to us the woman put some pieces of beef inside the nachos. I ordered the machaca burrito and two carne asada tacos. Pretty flavorless until you add salsa or hot sauce. Plus the meat in the asada tacos seemed old. I had got there around 9:30-10 am on a Sunday, so you'd think the meat would've been a little more savory and fresh. Especially because your at a meat market that does bring in alot of clientele. At least from the foot traffic it was getting. The people behind the counter are super friendly and attentive. I sis need to speak Spanish because the accent was thick in English. So for the A holes that don't appreciate that sort of thing, don't go there unless you can be patient with the employees there. Overall, the store size is super tiny, but they do have tables outside to eat, the parking lot is tiny... so actually parking there is a bit rough. But it is in old town La Quinta, and especially on a Sunday, if you can find parking around there and walk around, you've also got a farmers market on Sunday's too. Give it a try... because all Mexican food and how people like it can be subjective - but overall, very filling, about average in price for what you get, and good traditional vibes. read more

Three months ago I had the opportunity to visit this place and I finally had the chance and I was impressed with the tacos de cabeza although really, it seemed like a bit of a chore or a little expensive I would say 4 dollars 50 cents, but once I tried them I did not care. since then three months ago I decided to give a good five star review, but this last weekend that I went I had the bad experience when I realized that the cook told me that I had to pay 50 cents more for each extra salsa that I asked for my tacos and usually every time I went I asked for two portions of salsa for each Taco clarifying that they are small portions. each tongue taco costs 4.50 I ordered 4 and a soda paying a total of 25 dollars with tax and telling me that I would have to pay 50 cents each 6 extra portions(3dls extra) that only gave 2 small portions for my 4 tacos? I could have taken out the 3 dollars that I gave as a tip but it was not the case! It was the arrogant and offensive attitude demanding that I would have to pay 50 cents each for extra salsa! If they had explained to me that the prices had changed, I would understand and would have decided if I would pay the extra and I would have gladly done so, but it was more of the arrogant attitude of the cook with the attitude of being the owner of the place, but she is just an employee who cooks and has worked for a long time and they act with the attitude of being the owner of the place and end up acting with attitude towards the customers. Dropped in after a late hike, I had driven by many times but never dropped in. They got it all, market and great meat counter with to-go food menu. Small space to order and wait, a wait that can take up to a 1/2 hour depending on how busy they are. Location: Good location near Old Town, fairly good parking but it is directional so enter the correct driveway. Buildout: It is a market, a pretty awesome market with a lot of choices and items you won't find at Ralph's. Menu: Pretty extensive to-go menu and for sure not inexpensive, but a great selection. I'd say at busier times, order, grab a drink, pay at the counter then go wait outside to wait. Food Prep: it is to go food but they do a nice job. Food quality: Pretty good, but not outstanding but after a hike the super huge burrito was pretty good. It was huge, like enough for 4 people which may be why the price is what it is. Waitstaff: Well I did my best to order but had a bit of a language problem but thankfully someone waiting in line bailed me out. Kind of felt like I was getting chewed out for my limited Spanish by the lady behind the counter. Great local spot for authentic Mexican meats, sauces and hot food to go. Our family makes an annual trip out to the desert every spring and usually stay near La Quinta or Indian Wells. Always worth the drive for Tampico to get all the fixings for a big barbecue. The Ranchera marinada skirt steak is bomb, as is the Pollo Adobada. Fire that up over a charcoal grill with fajitas veggies & some spicy salsa taquera from Tampico and you have yourself a feast. Friendly staff and good prices. Highly recommend! read more

Was here in town for work and this was my second experience ordering a burrito at a Mexican meat Market with my first being in a similar small Mexican grocery meat market in Napa. Both times I ordered a carne asada burrito and both times they were poorly wrapped and had to resort like a homeless person using my fingers to eat every bite. You would think they would wrap the burritos tight as these places are geared for To Go. Burrito was meh and I've had better coming from the Bay Area. I learned a valuable lesson and I will either order street tacos or remember to tell the cashier to roll'em tight. We were in town for a few days and decided that we wanted something quick and easy. We were staying in LQ Cove and this place was only a couple miles away. We ordered carne asada chips to share for the 2 of us plus 3 small kids. The carne asada chips came out to about $11. When my husband came back with the food, I was excited to dig in. The chips looked delicious and ample. We are from San Diego and we have had our share carne asada. We felt that this carne asada had a different texture to it - grainy and soft?! It's hard to explain but it just didn't taste like what were used to. Not necessary bad, it was just different. It was OK. I do appreciate the mounds of toppings it had (guac, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes) and that the chips were crunchy vs not being soggy. The portion was a little smaller than what we are used to, but it was also cheaper. Overall, decent for someplace close to have a quick meal. read more
