Salesman came to the house for estimate for roof replacement. He didn't get on the to inspect but told us what need replaced. He spent most of his time showing us old reviews. When he finally got to pricing I was done. The materials appear to be top grade but sales man spent to much time on how good his product and company were. Then he wanted us to commit to the job. I try my best to tell him that we needed time to compare. This is when he started with his " deals" and no matter what I tried he wanted us to commit. So by this time I was done. Cardinal Home Improvement has been one of the best investments I have made to my house so far. The window products (8 Double Hungs, 1 Slider) are top quality. Working in the window manufacturing industry for the last 7 years I can honestly attest that the windows received are well built, use top materials, and are going to last. The guys that installed the units were very professional and quick. They listened to my concerns about keeping the units neat from any extra caulking around the units and even asked me to inspect the windows after all was done so that they meet my expectations. As far as purchasing the units, the price is mid line for the industry. We had several quotes from other companies, ranging from cheap to ungodly expensive. Cardinal was the only company that could exceed in quality and keep the price reasonable. They worked with us to get financing for the improvement and we didn't need to break the bank to get this project done. I will agree with some of these reviews that the sales man James was a bit pushy, but any sales man would be in a highly competitive field and shouldn't be held against him. He was very informative of the product he was offering, even as I grilled him on materials used, Manufacturer information, and actual construction of the unit. All in all, good experience, great product, great cost, and a really good investment. $400 savings on electric bill this year. read more

They will not stop sending people to my house. At least once a month on a Sunday afternoon they come by asking if they can do an estimate. I had the same experience as someone posted before, high pressure expensive sales pitch. First guy gave us a price and we said no thanks. Second guy comes later and says "oh he was new, here's what the price should have been". The price was still unbelievably high. They offer a discount if you put their sign out front. I've asked repeatedly for them to stop coming by but my requests are ignored. This has been going on for four years now. Edit on 7/11/14: Yet again a kid stopped by asking to leave a flyer. I said no thanks and asked again please stop coming by. I called Cardinal and asked to please be removed from their contact list. The lady who answered was very nice and apologetic, but said they don't have a way of keeping track of these things. She suggested putting a No Soliciting sign in my window. My wife and I just bought out first home and were looking to install a fence Cardinal was the one who came to our house and dropped of a flyer and set a time to come back to give us a free estimate. The first meeting 2 guys showed up and my wife was not home so they said they would "just take off then" after that the office called and said they were sorry and would like to come back out and give us a estimate. At the second time the guy did the same thing. My wife and I work very weird hours I dont see how we both have to be here for them to give the estimate. very poor customer service will not be getting our job read more

What a terrible experience. We were promised by the sales person they were different than the other companies. The sales guy Connor lied about what could be done to complete the job. We were excited about getting this job done. Now my wife and I regret doing it. Cardinal sent out sub contractors that were sub standard. They damaged my house and then had to repair it. The owner Jeff seems not to care about customer issues and washes his hands of even speaking with customers when they have issues. The only thing they did well and often was apologize for their poor performance. Beware of empty promises. read more

Like many of the other reviews, the company does not take "no" for an answer, which was great 30 years ago, but this is the new century, and people price shop because of all the scams and cheaply made products out there. A tip for Cardinal Home Improvement, take a chill pill. Pushy sales people only go so far before they start to actually hurt business, and create reviews like this website has. Do not call me 25 times, in 12 days, because I told the guy who came to the door last week, I MAY be interested SOMETIME in the next YEAR for an ESTIMATE. After reading other reviews, I'm not sure how we had different experiences. I had James come to our house for an estimate on windows. We had already talked with 4-5 other companies who had completely turned us off with their high-pressure sales tactics. We told James that we aren't interested in talking if that was how he was going to be. He never pressured us into anything. He took the measurements, ran the numbers, and showed us the necessities. A few weeks later our windows are in and everything is great. The installers were only there for a couple of hours, were courteous, cleaned everything up, and that was that. Cardinal will certainly stay on our radar screen for our next big job. read more

Cardinal came into my neighborhood on a Saturday handing out flyers about home improvements. It said free estimate so i thought hey why not I want a new front door eventually. The guy arrived on time at 7:30 P.M. to do the estimate on Tuesday. At first he was nice and personable, even after I told him I was just looking around, not interested in getting anything today. We picked a door we liked and he gave us a run down of the price. He started with the MSRP and then showed all the "discounts" they offer. I told him ya this is an ok price but I'm not looking to commit to anything today. Then he started with his what if's speech. I continued to tell him I wasn't going to do anything today. He kept reiterating this price is only good for 30 days. I continued to say no. He then called his boss and told him all of what we had discussed the past hour and then his boss told him to knock off an additional $300, but it's only good through tomorrow. I said that's nice but I'm not signing anything today, I just started looking and I don't wanna jump into anything. He then went on to say how this job we want isn't going to make them rich, and they were barely gonna make money on it now at this price. Oh really? So basically the job you want me to spend thousands on is a crappy meaningless job and you're offering me this price because we know each other so well and you're doing me a favor? If this job is nothing then why are you being so desperate to get it? On top of that you guys were out looking for estimates I didn't come to you. He then got pissed that I still refused and snatched his notebook up and finally decided to leave. No handshake or anything, an hour and a half later at 9PM he leaves. I found Cardinal Home Improvements at the St. Charles Home Show. I booked an appointment for a roof & windows estimate. I called the day before to confirm the appointment and spoke to a lady that was anything but. We confirmed and I thought I was all set. I got a call the next day an hour before my appointment and was informed that they were not interested in coming out for an estimate. I guess my money is not GREEN ENOUGH!! Now that I have seen the other comments that were posted, I think they did me a huge favor. I called another company and they were there the next day. I strongly recommend NOT getting a quote from this company. Two employees came to our home and we spent almost two hours discussing a potential bathroom remodel. With Cardinal being our third estimate, we had an idea of what to expect as far as price. The quote was insanely high and I was really turned off .... BUT WAIT! Special discounts then... (Insert frills) Cardinal has great financing! Cardinal can knock off some money if you advertise with a yard sign! Blah, blah, blah. The quote was STILL too high for us. When I said I was hoping to keep it under a certain amount, they both scoffed and acted like it was crazy. One of the gentlemen phoned his boss and, just like some other reviewers state, he took a little more money off the estimate. We were told the price was soooo low that their profit would only be enough to pay their light bill....BUT we HAD to make a decision right then and there. We couldn't even call them later that day because they had more appointments and .. well, more BS. What a waste of our morning! I would never make such a rash decision on a $7k+ bathroom remodel when the employees were pushing. Very uncomfortable and will not receive our business. read more

I had windows installed by Cardinal Home Improvements a couple months ago. Now that we've had some chilly weather off and on, I have noticed just HOW well our new windows insulate. I have'nt had to turn the heat up any extra so far on colder nights and I have actually left the house a little under-dressed for the weather a couple times because from the inside I can no longer tell the differrence between a forty degree day and a sixtysomething degree day! lol They seem to block out a lot of sound too. read more

James from Cardinal came out to do an estimate for siding for us. I actually about kicked him out of my home by the end of the meeting. He spent 2 and a half hours at our house, which was great, we did have a lot of questions. The first half of the meeting was actually going well. He was very imformative about the siding, answered our questions, etc. However, when it got to the part of him giving us a price he was very high pressure. I told him we weren't going to make a decision today (at the beginning of our meeting). It's a lot of money and I wanted to shop around and get highly educated on siding. He told us that if we said yes today they could offer us an incentive and save $3k which brought it from $15k to $12k. Ok, well that's great but I'm not saying yes. This is when he started acting childish. He told me I was overanalyzing and went into a conversation about psychology and how there's your gut instinct and your emotional instinct (at this point he was studdering so I knew he was just saying anything to get the sale) and that if our gut is saying it's right then we should do it. He also kept saying this is what you want right? Well we told him of the choices he gave us what we would pick but we were still undecided on vinyl or fiber cement (which he bad mouthed all his competitors in a very unprofessional way if you ask me). His final desperate plea was that he would write up a contract today contigent upon us sleeping on it for a few days. This part I really didn't get. He was so desperate and studdering and by this point I was so upset I just wanted him out of our house. I had told him that we needed to wrap up as we had another company coming to do an estimate. The guy actually came as we were trying to wrap up with James. In the end he was rude to us, acted like we were idiots for passing up a good deal and was kind of throwing his stuff in his bag. We actually did like him at first and might have actually gone with Cardinal but his attitude when we wouldn't decide today blew it. Don't waste your time having them come out for their high pressure sales pitch. read more

We had the shingles on our roof removed and a new roof installed. We had used this company before for other work, and it was good--not sure what has changed. The sales process was fine-salesman was very polite, but the actual installation, customer service and supervision from their production manager, and follow up after the job were VERY poor. I NEVER saw or met the production manager in person--only spoke to him over the phone after multiple calls. Calling the office wasn't much better--everyone seems to be out, all the time. The work itself was OK, but required 2 separate return trips to actually get the work completed as contracted. They promised they were different and only did it one way--the right way....yeah, not so much. During the install, old shingles were left all over the yard, felt paper left hanging in the tree, the wrong stack pipe covers were installed, the gables were not closed off, and roofing nails EVERYWHERE in the grass. Not just a few, that's expected--but HUNDREDS of them. I asked for a refund of some portion due to having to take 2 days off to get the corrections done, and the initial offer was ridiculously low. Then after agreeing on a number it took 2 separate calls and nearly a month to get the refund. If you don't feel like devoting a lot of your own time to the project and being your own contractor/supervisor, then I would recommend you look elsewhere. read more

Would give a zero but that is not an option. Two men came out to give an estimate for an old deck we wanted ideas for as well as a possible pavilion over a patio. They would not give us estimates on what we wanted but rather concentrate on our "small useless deck and outdated sun room." They arrived at 9am and there was a guy named James and a guy named Matt. They were here for three hours on a Saturday. I said this is the first quote we are getting and just want some ideas before we decide. They kept saying sign now and we will throw in a free door, take off additional money, blah, blah, blah! Finally they left! They continued to call me for about two months before I call blocked them. I just saw a story on KMOV news tonight that they got paid by several customers for work they never started, finished, or did not release leins for. The owner doesn't pay rent at the office. Sounds ds like a scam artist as he has declared bankruptcy in the past for nearly a million dollars. Avoid this company at all costs! read more

I had cardinal home improvements come out to my house to replace the windows and doors on the home. The windows are amazing. i was skeptical at first about going with them since they were the first company i had come out, but boy am i glad i did. I have had other companies out in the past and the pricing for the windows that they carry is very affordable, not to mention the quality, Gary and Dennis were wonderful workers and were very efficient. The sales representative was very professional and i am very glad i chose cardinal home improvements. If you need any work done on your home i highly recommend this company. They are not the cheapest, but for the quality, i know i got the best bang for my buck. The Tempature in my house doesn't fluctuate very much and my air conditioning unit kicks on half the time. i never would have thought windows and doors could make my house quieter and much more comfortable. read more
