They offered to come out between scheduled calls (which I thought was awesome), but I told them it wasn't an emergency -- I just wanted an opinion from an expert. They scheduled an appointment for two days later, and the tech (Glen) arrived on time. He was friendly and professional and went to work studying all the pumps in the basement, as well as the pump in the septic system. Now he absolutely could have told me they all needed to be replaced immediately and I would have cut a check. Instead, he assured me they're all in working order and in good shape. As this was my first appointment, he also took a look at my other equipment (on demand water heater, washer hookup, main water line, toilets, faucets, and furnace), and gave me a solid walk-through, providing some thoughts on what I should be looking at over the next year or so. Even though nothing was wrong with my equipment, I happily signed the check for the visit. I have piece of mind and have found my plumbing and heating company.

However, what you get compared to what you hope or expect can be way over or under. Expectations and hopes are limitless. In this case, the service was way more than I expected. In fact I can not imagine anything they could have done better. On top of all that, the price was less than a quote I got from my previous HVAC guy and Local HVAC was able to respond faster on a failed A/C system in 90 degree weather.

Buying a mini-split system is an incredibly difficult process. The Mass Save rebate system is very…read moredifficult to navigate. I got quotes and presentations from 4 different vendors and the pitch and price was exactly the same - hour long presentation and a $30k cost. However, what each vendor tells you is that IF you qualify a $10k rebate is available and your net cost is $20k. Essentially the rebate is a scam - it just gives contractors the ability to inflate the prices and use the rebate to make the system sound cheaper than it really is. I finally met with McIver and he was able to simplify the entire process. He is not a Mass Save contractor. So he does not work the rebate, just offers a strait-up cost to install the system. When he gave me his quote, I quickly figured out that Dan McIver was an honest man and that the whole Mass Rebate program was a scam. His quote with the similar equipment and the same number of mini-splits was $13,500. I hired him for the job and they started within a week. One of my biggest concerns was esthetics - I was worried about too many refrigeration lines running around the outside of the house. Our house is a rental property in Cape Cod that had a lot of charm to it and we did not want to ruin the integrity of it. Dan came up with a brilliant solution and was able to run most of the lines through the basement to minimize the lines on the outside of the house - we were so pleased with this solution. His team did a fantastic job building out the system - they were clean and finished the project on the timeline he quoted. The work was high quality!! Net is that Dan took a very complicated buying process and made it simple and affordable. He is highly recommended for the quality of his work, pricing and his honest and straightforward approach!
