The Cruise Ship DUNWOODY PINES I have lived here since July 2018 and I find it to be a very…read morefriendly place to be. For the previous 5 years starting in March of 2012 I lived with my wife in another senior living facility near KENNESTONE Hospital. It was very much the same as it is here accept they only served one meal a day for most of the Independent living residents, you could upgrade to 3 meals a day at about $50 more a month but we enjoyed making our own breakfast and a sandwich for lunch. Later they added the breakfast after increasing the monthly rent. Otherwise it was much the same as here except it was over $1.000 more in monthly rent. But in June, 2018 my wife said we needed to live separately. I could not afford to live at the same facility, so I started to visit different places in and around Marietta and found this location. It offered every thing that I had before. But at an affordable price. Especially after I prepaid a third of the monthly rent for about 15 months. I would get $700 a month off my rent as long as I live here. So if I decide I need a larger place to live I can upgrade and still get the $700 off the current rate for that size of apartment. But I now live in a studio which provides plenty of room for 1 person. It even has a large walk-in closet hanging on both sides 6' by 8', a kitchen with a full size stove a sink with a garbage disposal, a full size refrigerator, plus extra room where I have a microwave, a toaster oven plus shelf space for groceries and a garbage can. It also has a pantry that I use as storage space for my many odds and ends. When I moved in I did not have any furniture. The maintenance manager had me go with him to the storage room in the building and pick out stuff that had been left when people moved out and I was able to mostly furnish my studio with that. So in closing let me say the staff for the most part are great, pleasant, helpful and know they are there to make your stay as pleasant as it would be if you were on a vacation at a high level resort. I consider this to be like being on a cruise ship. With all your meals provided. Many entertaining things to do on board and many trips to shop and visit plus transportation to your doctors, drugstores, banks and library. I would suggest very strongly for when you retire that you come aboard the Dunwoody Pines and to advance pay $700 for the 15 months and save $700 off of your rent every month you live here over 15 months. Because when you move here you will want to spend the rest of your life on board the ship DUNWOODY PINES and cruise with us to HAPPY TIMES

The "nurses" I've dealt with are incompetent, failing to receive and process Doctor's Orders in a timely fashion (one incident could have put Mom's life at risk!!). Seriously thinking about how and where to move Mom.

Promises made before the move were not fulfilled, and there are physically and verbally aggressive residents in the facility. Residents go into each others' rooms, sleep in each others' beds, and do not receive the attention they need, from what I've seen. Residents will take each others' food, drink, and silverware while staff seem not to notice. The level of care promised simply is not provided, at least in my parents' case. The environment was also not comfortable or relaxing for my parent, my family, or me. One aggressive resident would grab people hard, and once a resident took her cane to him, with all of this happening in the dining room, which is packed due to size and number of residents. Brighton Gardens memory care was truly the worst place my parent has ever lived. It was so disappointing. Some of the staff members are very kind and nice to the residents, but there simply are not enough staff members, and not all staff are nice and kind (one staff cursed at a resident in front of others). The manager appears to have one or two other facilities to run or jobs, as we rarely saw here there. Brighton Gardens should be ashamed for promising such a wonderful place for those with dementia to live and for not doing so. My parent, in my opinion, was caused a great deal of stress and anxiety in this horrible environment. I would not have even given Brighton Gardens one star, but I had to do so just to make this post.
