The Cruise Ship DUNWOODY PINES I have lived here since July 2018 and I find it to be a very…read morefriendly place to be. For the previous 5 years starting in March of 2012 I lived with my wife in another senior living facility near KENNESTONE Hospital. It was very much the same as it is here accept they only served one meal a day for most of the Independent living residents, you could upgrade to 3 meals a day at about $50 more a month but we enjoyed making our own breakfast and a sandwich for lunch. Later they added the breakfast after increasing the monthly rent. Otherwise it was much the same as here except it was over $1.000 more in monthly rent. But in June, 2018 my wife said we needed to live separately. I could not afford to live at the same facility, so I started to visit different places in and around Marietta and found this location. It offered every thing that I had before. But at an affordable price. Especially after I prepaid a third of the monthly rent for about 15 months. I would get $700 a month off my rent as long as I live here. So if I decide I need a larger place to live I can upgrade and still get the $700 off the current rate for that size of apartment. But I now live in a studio which provides plenty of room for 1 person. It even has a large walk-in closet hanging on both sides 6' by 8', a kitchen with a full size stove a sink with a garbage disposal, a full size refrigerator, plus extra room where I have a microwave, a toaster oven plus shelf space for groceries and a garbage can. It also has a pantry that I use as storage space for my many odds and ends. When I moved in I did not have any furniture. The maintenance manager had me go with him to the storage room in the building and pick out stuff that had been left when people moved out and I was able to mostly furnish my studio with that. So in closing let me say the staff for the most part are great, pleasant, helpful and know they are there to make your stay as pleasant as it would be if you were on a vacation at a high level resort. I consider this to be like being on a cruise ship. With all your meals provided. Many entertaining things to do on board and many trips to shop and visit plus transportation to your doctors, drugstores, banks and library. I would suggest very strongly for when you retire that you come aboard the Dunwoody Pines and to advance pay $700 for the 15 months and save $700 off of your rent every month you live here over 15 months. Because when you move here you will want to spend the rest of your life on board the ship DUNWOODY PINES and cruise with us to HAPPY TIMES

The "nurses" I've dealt with are incompetent, failing to receive and process Doctor's Orders in a timely fashion (one incident could have put Mom's life at risk!!). Seriously thinking about how and where to move Mom.

Promises made before the move were not fulfilled, and there are physically and verbally aggressive residents in the facility. Residents go into each others' rooms, sleep in each others' beds, and do not receive the attention they need, from what I've seen. Residents will take each others' food, drink, and silverware while staff seem not to notice. The level of care promised simply is not provided, at least in my parents' case. The environment was also not comfortable or relaxing for my parent, my family, or me. One aggressive resident would grab people hard, and once a resident took her cane to him, with all of this happening in the dining room, which is packed due to size and number of residents. Brighton Gardens memory care was truly the worst place my parent has ever lived. It was so disappointing. Some of the staff members are very kind and nice to the residents, but there simply are not enough staff members, and not all staff are nice and kind (one staff cursed at a resident in front of others). The manager appears to have one or two other facilities to run or jobs, as we rarely saw here there. Brighton Gardens should be ashamed for promising such a wonderful place for those with dementia to live and for not doing so. My parent, in my opinion, was caused a great deal of stress and anxiety in this horrible environment. I would not have even given Brighton Gardens one star, but I had to do so just to make this post.

My sister lived in independent living as she became more ill, I transferred to memory care and hospice. They had a hard time keeping my sister clean and her nails were dark brown from filth- I cleaned them myself as she deserved no less. MY sister had a seizure and I asked that the nurse be called to help and I was told, "she's at lunch". She later came down and seemed put out!!!!Her Chanel body lotion disappeared as did all of her perfumes. Please don't put your family in memory care. Heartis continues to go downhill with lots of turnover of the help.A close friend of mine is having a horrific experience with her mom in memory care. Now she has to move her to another facility. Heartis adds stress to an already stressful situation.

Like many others, I am moving parents after 7 months because of safety issues and general lack of trust in management. Just a few examples...consistently broken elevators, garbage piled up in garbage rooms, no clearly communicated plan for fire safety (fire drills are scary in a high rise when residents don't know they are coming or what to do). Having had previous experience with care facilities, I would say that communication with residents goes a LONG way in easing their anxiety and creating a sense of community. We have not received a single communication since we arrived. As we transition from independent to assisted living, it's more important than ever to trust the people that surround my parents and I simply don't have that confidence.

After 2 yrs it's gotten worse!…read more Management held residents' meetings in July 2024 and Administrator promised to address/fix many issues. Filthy laundry rooms, furniture replacement needs in computer room and common areas, multiple language signage for trash areas, etc. Negative and unhelpful staff interactions with residents, etc. Nothing was changed on any issues discussed. Unsatisfactory conditions in too many common areas continue but we've got a new lobby and dining room. We don't have meals service but CS-B continues to lease our kitchen to outside company. The aging infrastructure is still aging and some things are slowly being replaced or repaired but aesthetics are prioritized. We'd rather have clean functional laundry rooms and computer room without non working printer and scanner. Common areas without stained nasty carpet and furniture, etc. We'd like to walk hallways without smelling nasty oily garlicy cooking odors from leased catering company using our building's kitchen day in and day out. Management/residents communication is also challenging. We receive notifications of repairs but they regularly are inconsistent with actual dates. We are not kept informed about changes in timelines in real time. Our schedules are not considered. The bugs continue to share our space. The now mandated exterminator service is managed by one man. It takes about 4 mos to be in rotation to get every apt sprayed. You can request individually but all 3 bldgs (400+ apts) need service more often. Rudeness, incompetence and bullying continues by most of staff. On the surface this place looks fine but in reality it is a marginal HUD/Atlanta Housing Authority project. If management held their staff accountable, used their available funds (net assets $9M+ for 2024 Schedule 990 per ProPublica website) and prioritized daily residents' needs this could be a positive, safe and healthy place to age but they choose aesthetics to show off to their BOD and prospective residents. They get you in the door with mission statements of caring and integrity but then ignore your requests for the safe, clean apt and common areas you use daily. This is NOT the haven their website indicates IMHO!

Campbell Stone is a low-income senior housing unit that is directly behind the Publix in Buckhead. I can't say enough about this place. Let's face it, most of these senior housing high rises are depressing, they smell, and feel dirty. One of the few exceptions is Campbell Stone. With qualification for low-income, they take 30% of the residents income for rent, and all utilities are free. If you want cable, it is only $15 a month. Campbell Stone recently went under a $11 million renovation. So all the apartments are in great condition and are a decent size as well. They have food services if you choose, a chapel, a barber shop, a newstand type store, consignment shop, exercise facility, common garden, and a part-time Bank of America branch. They also organize trips to the mall, grocery, movies and excursions to North GA, etc. The best part though, is the service. The employees really do care about the residents, and are friendly and helpful. Twice, my father-in-law was out of town and both times they called wondering where he was, to make sure everything was o.k. That is reassuring. It is amazing that they even notice these things with 15 floors of residents. Security is also good, they wouldn't even let Comcast up to his apt. without his permission. Along with a few newer senior units up in the Brookhaven area, this is one of the best in the Atlanta area. Highly recommend!
