Here is why you should NOR\t contact this company here is my latest attempt to deal with them. ______________ Carefree Air Team, I am escalating this matter once again due to your continued lack of response and the unresolved issues with the TCL Advantage 3-ton heat pump and air handler installed at my home on May 1, 2026. In addition to the system never functioning properly and the heat pump/heating mode remaining completely inoperable, I must emphasize that your company has not provided an invoice for the installation, despite multiple requests. This is a basic requirement for any contracted work and is necessary for my records, warranty, and any future service needs. To date, I have received no written response to my emails sent on May 26 and May 29. TCL has also been unable to proceed with troubleshooting under Ticket #US05202629347 because you have not contacted them as required. The Town of Malverne has confirmed that your HVAC permit application was not processed due to missing documentation, yet the installation was completed without an approved permit. At this point, I am requesting immediate action. Within three (3) business days, I expect a written response confirming: When you will provide the missing installation invoice; A scheduled date for TCL-directed troubleshooting at my home; or A complete repair or replacement plan to restore full system functionality. If I do not receive a response within this timeframe, I will proceed with my formal complaint to Nassau County Consumer Affairs and pursue all available remedies. Must Read - Before considering Carefree Air: Brand new Mitsubitshi Split Installed Aug 2022. Never truely "tested" until late Spring 2023. Steady leak - "interior" - improperly installed condensate pump, cool and dry modes. Damaged drawings (professional) and wet - wet carpet! Called for Carefree Air to fix. I had the Carefree technician Frank stop over this morning to service my heating system. He was very polite and professional and after going over my system as they have done in the past, he said all was fine. I usually get a call from the friendly office manager, Monica to remind me when it's due. A few years back they installed a Mitsubishi air conditioning system in my house which is great and they take care of that, too! Great organization! You can't go wrong. read more

Not happy with this company. We had a tech come to clean our wall unit. When he opened up the unit, he let the build up of water in the unit fall all over. It got on my furniture, wall, and surrounding floor. Minimal effort was used to clean up the mess, and after throwing a paper towel or two on it, he went outside to start cleaning the unit. I had to get towels myself and clean up all the water while he was gone. No concern for my property. I've done a lot of work in people's homes, and have learned the importance of treating the customer's home as if it were my own. Not the case here, though. read more

So, we call Carefree air conditioning service, as per suggestions from, you know, folks on FB. They were available for a house call that day, which made me suspicious. A $300 for service call. The service tech added freon, said it may work the rest of the summer. Good enough for me. If not, a new system may be $7000- $12,000!!! He adds freon, for $500, turns on system and waits a bit then leaves. We go to check the rooms after an hour or so, and they are warm. We call back to tell them and they want to charge another $300 SERVICE FEE to come back!!! SAME DAY!!! WTH? Customer service is non existent and they are unscrupulous and awful. -1 star ismore likeit. read more

I asked Carefree company to return me $400 for their below 10 minutes assessment on 25 December 2024 of the heating problem (Manhattan 10128). The assessment contained a few copy and past lines with attached another $2,000 invoice with a request to execute the repair on the roof of the building (40th floor) or in the basement due to some fumes, all this is obviously prohibited by the building management. So, this company actually makes an enormous profit only by making not refundable few line general assessments. When I asked to remove $400 from a $2,000 bill for the actual planned repair the company rejected it, insisting that I have to pay for both invoices and prior the work starts! As I felt really insulted I approached another company that executed the entire work below one hour including a thorough examination of the entire heating/cooling system for the price $650! no roof basement work, no fumes, but because of an emergency service that company charged me and rightly so an additional fee. The Carefree company might have special cars but its servicing is clearly fraudulent and unprofessional, avoid at any cost, when a corrupt super would suggest you this company for any service. The company's owner instructs its staff to behave like shameless con artists apparently he thinks if people live in better buildings they are rich and do not care about money, or are brainless, relying thus that despite complaints the business will go as usual. I can fully document everything in this review with a view to ask the NY license authorities to review unethical practices of this company and eventually close this business. There are other companies in NY that are transparent and honest with their clients and provide professional work rather making money on dubious "assessments"! Just one small addition...it would be useful for law enforcement authorities to scrutinize the company's owner profile, usually this type is not only in one fraudulent business! read more

They came to diagnose my AC system last week after it froze up. Technician said it was most likely a result of a dirty filter - fair enough. After changing the filter it froze up again - the next technician didn't charge, but this time diagnosed it as a restricted meter (TXV valve problem). I was promised quotes for repair or replacement by end of day, but it's been 3 days now. I called and was told that the quotes were "in the system" and would be processed and emailed soon. Still nothing. They did a good job last year installing a new furnace and connecting it to the rest of the system, but because of the fact that they had to come back twice after to fix complications of that installation one must wonder if this latest issue is related. But in any case we went a different route. UPDATE: About a month after this review I contacted them again regarding the lack of response. To my surprised they replied, and one of the managers seemed confused that I never got the quotes as they claimed they were "up to date" on everything. After explaining the situation he promised to get me the quotes. Originally I had requested a quote to repair and a quote to replace, but the one I received was only for a repair. Though cheaper than the price I paid for a replacement, it was still expensive. Additionally, my name was apparently listed in their system with a big bold DO NOT SERVICE listed next to it. I replied asking if the quote was for repair or full replacement and what DO NOT SERVICE meant. He came back stating that the quote I received was accurate for a repair and asked if I wanted a quote to replace, but did not answer me about what DO NOT SERVICE meant. I asked again for a replacement quote and what they meant by DO NOT SERVICE. Later that day I received the full replacement quote, still with DO NOT SERVICE after my name and no answer as to what it meant. It was also 2000 more expensive than the unit I had installed by a superior company. Thus, I have decided to respect their wishes not to provide service to me. read more

I almost thought that they were a company that understood my High Efficiency Combi boiler. What I was left with was a quote for $6500 to replace my water tank that they assumed was the issue. After a second opinion I was told that the issue is the heat exchanger which only cost me $250. I feel bad for anyone that uses these guys. Stay Away!!!!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. 1. Be prepared for it to take 10 minutes every time you try and call. You will be put on hold a minimum of three times. 2. They make NO APPOINTMENTS. Even if u r not having any issue and just need service. They refuse to make any appointments. 3. The person that answers the phone knows nothing And repeatedly has to check with someone else. Poor poor poor. They came at least five times to diagnose and fix our Mitsubishi ductless air conditioning/ heater, which they had sold us and installed. We were charged for each visit and charged for parts. They did not show up for a week or two between visits. After a summer with no air conditioning we chose to use another dealer. Awful company top to bottom. If you are looking for heat and or ac keep looking. I would recommend Diy over these guys. They have shockingly little knowledge and expertise, do not return calls, do not finish work and are a nightmare to schedule with. The ladies in the office are nice and most of the install guys seem honest and seem to at least be trying. I could give a million reasons not to go with this company - it was a never ending nightmare, but it really comes down to the two guys everything is run through - the two guys you have to deal with if you want anything done. They just don't have any integrity or self respect. Their lack of knowledge and common sense were at times shocking, but I didn't mind that as much as the lack of integrity and respect. I have three units installed by Carefree, three blowers on two compressors. The units are 2 1/2 yrs old and five years old. Their installation of the systems was professional. The overall experience was mostly without incident. Fast forward to three weeks ago when on of my newer blowers was not cooling properly. We called Carefree to diagnose the issue. It took them about 3 hours and cost $463. The first half hour is charged at $167. They spent most of their time on the phone with Mitsubishi and the owner Ray to diagnose the issue. A part had failed, it happens. That part is under warranty but the labor is not. After a week, we had not heard back from Carefree. We called and spoke with Doreen who indicated the part arrived but was damaged. I was then transferred to Ray, the owner. Ray could not confirm anything about the damaged part and he would have to look into it, as if I was making it up. He also explained the very complex logistics involved getting a part from Mitsubishi in Atlanta, the complex issues associated with these systems, etc etc. I didn't think Atlanta was that far, but again, I'm not the owner. When the part finally arrived, we received the estimate which was for over $600. Ray indicated he was giving me a break and was charging me a "flat rate". I asked him to itemize the estimate as to parts, supplies and labor. This is something you'd get at an auto garage or anywhere else for that matter. Ray indicated he could not as the software would not allow it. I would receive a 15% discount for anything over the $630 estimate. Feeling like I am being over charged, I called around for a second opinion. Two HVAC companies literally laughed when I explained how much I was being charged. Both companies came in with estimates half of what Carefree is charging. They also indicated that a pipe installed by Carefree should have been attached via a clamp and not fused/soldered. I spoke with Ray again about this situation and of course, the pipe is installed properly. Yes the pipe could be installed with a clamp, but again, due to the very complex logistics of getting a part from Atlanta, sometimes it's just better and easier to fuse/solder it. There was more complex conversation about flowing nitrogen and oxidation, but Ray isn't wrong. With all that, obviously, we are not using Carefree to fix our unit. I can also say I will never use Carefree again. As much as Ray was responsive, my opinion is Ray is never wrong. I would also say that I'm not a fan of Mitsubishi. Their customer service was no better. When I logged my complaint to them, they seemed to not care. Do your homework, find another ductless air system and research the company who installs it. read more

This company has come to my family's rescue this season in dire circumstances. In my home I have 4 Mitsubishi Mr. Slim A/C units and I have been using a different service vendor for the last several years with mixed success at best. So I decided to make a change and was rewarded in every way by Carefree Air Conditioning. From their technicians to their owners they are professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They get the job done quickly, neatly and at a fair price. Ray who is the owner is a very personable and reasonable man who appreciated my situation. I had an A/C down in 95 degree weather with my 95 year old mom upstairs and they were there promptly, diagnosed the problem quickly and temporarily fixed it until they could order the correct part to make the final repair. A couple of weeks later it was complete and it was a pleasure to deal with such nice people and I will certainly call them again when I need service on my other units. I would recommend them without any reservations whatsoever. read more

i had a Service Contract with this company and the heat in my business went off on a Saturday morning so we called their emergency line because it was 30 degrees outside and we are staffed 24 hours. Left 5 messages and emails over 5 hours with no response, i brought in Electric Heaters to help out. Left several messages on Sunday with no response, finally on Monday we reach them and they said they were very busy over the weekend and today maybe we should look to another provider, when i stated i had a contract the woman said it expired a month ago and i never renewed it. They never have any parts in stock and you have to call back numerous times over a weeks time just to talk to anyone to see about the part. They give you a crappy 4 hour time window and they talk to you like you are DUMB. Dina never knows what she is talking about and talks like you are underneath her and are the scum of the earth. Called Monday left message for Ray - owner - no call back. Got to speak Ray today by calling again, Ray is nothing but an arrogant, patronizing owner of a company that somehow stays in business. After listening to him trying to tell me what I am asking, I finally had enough of his arrogance and gave him instructions on what he could do to himself and hung up! All of this could have been avoided if Jeremy would have called to cancel appointment and rescheduled. The most disappointing and frustrating experience I've ever had...before even receiving any services, it never got to that point courtesy of them. Not sure who the "care free" party is supposed to be, the customer or them. They were a referral of a friend of mine who used them when the boiler went under in Sandy. She said they were responsive and fair. I get an estimate on the books with them the first time, they call me and ask to reschedule - okay fine I can live with that. Reschedule date comes and goes (a Saturday between 8a-12p), absolute no show, no call. Weeks go by with no follow up. I'm looking for a boiler and hot water heater replacement, no small job, clearly they aren't starved for business. They get back in touch and apologize for not showing, citing they are really busy. I get another date on the books, same Saturday situation. I indicated I would not go through this no show, no call thing again, to which they swore would not happen. I called the day before the estimate to confirm and they swore on the same promise once more. Well, Saturday comes and goes. No show, no call. Done, done, done. When it comes to one's free time when you work hard, anyone would agree it's not something to be carefree about. Apparently CareFree has plenty of business and can afford to shoe off potential customers, all while showing a complete lack of care and commitment. Save yourself the headache, find somebody else. I paid almost $10,000 for an installation of a special heat unit for my business. They placed it in a horrible location that is dangerous & not to code, and refuse to talk about it when i call! I finally got them to talk to me after I said I have to pay them to move it. Then after three appointments later that they were a no show they finally say to get another company to do the job. We changed our A/C (residential) company to Carefree based on the price. We made a maintenance appointment and at the same time, gave them all the info on the filter needed for our system. We called them the day before the appointment to verify the appointment, and also that they had the filter. They showed up with the wrong filter and advised us that it may take weeks before they could order and install the correct one. The technician advised not to reinstall the old filter, because it was too dirty, so we did not reinstall the old filter. We called their office as soon as the technician left. They admitted that they had the right filter in stock and also admitted that we had given them the correct information when we originally ordered the filter. At first they insisted that they could not deliver the filter anytime soon, but finally agreed to install it the next day, but would only give us a 4 hour window, in the afternoon. They did come more then halfway through the window, and the installation took less then 5 minutes. Because of their negligence, we had to spend most of our day home, when they could have come back ASAP. Instead, they complained about scheduling, when the installation did not take that long, we are not far from their office and it was their error in the first place. read more

I'm finding it hard to believe the ferociousness of the negative reviews for this business, as my experience with them has always been extremely positive. They performed routine maintenance on my CAC many years ago ... worked done as expected (fast and effective). I now had problems with my new system and have been extremely pleased with their service. Stephanie (I think, I hope I remembered her name correctly) in the office was extremely communicative and professional. Followed up the day before the scheduled visit, called that morning to give me a window of time, and then called to alert me when the technician was leaving a previous call to come to my home. Andrew the technician was excellent: also professional and courteous. We're not done with the repairs (I do need to stop by the office to check out wireless thermostats and was told to call ahead to make sure that the two owners will be present), but I don't believe that is either out of the ordinary or a hardship for a cusotmer.
