There is an educational curriculum at all age groups, and extracurricular activities including music class, sport camps, computer time, culinary skills, a large indoor gross motor room, a splash park outside, and use of the Wide World of Indoor Sports during the long cold winters. They have a nurse on staff who visits both campuses, and the staff is very communicative about any of those unavoidable outbreaks of common kid illnesses. In addition, when my oldest was experiencing some behavioral challenges, the teachers and administration all worked with me to develop a plan that best suited my child's needs. Additionally, the staff is extremely communicative, caring, and thoughtful regarding the care of my infant. The space is always tidy and well taken care of. I genuinely like all of the teachers at the school, including the Director Miss Kristin and assistant director Mr. Brent. I'm going to focus this review on the infant teachers because, as mom, I find myself most worrying about my baby. Since my daughter had already been in many of the classrooms when my son started, I was VERY confident that I was leaving my new baby in great hands when I had to return to work. The head teacher Miss Laura was the same head teacher than my daughter had so I was familiar and very comfortable with her. My son had colic during his first few months and a milk protein sensitivity. When I explained all of this to Miss Laura she listened carefully and that gave me reassurance that my son would be properly cared for. After about a week, one of the other infant teachers Miss Brianna, showed me a new way to hold my son that helped calm him down when he was colicky and in pain. My husband and I will forever refer to this as the "Brianna hold". All three teachers (Miss Laura, Miss Kailey, and Miss Brianna) show a personal connection with my son and my older daughter even though she isn't in their class. We have been working on teaching my son to crawl lately. By "we" I mean me, my husband, my daughter (she's a great big sister helper!), and all three teachers. Earlier this week, I saw a video that they took for me of my son Army crawling!! One of the special parts about this video, which they may not have even realized, was how involved and excited all three teachers were! One was holding the camera, one was on the ground and encouraging my son to reach and crawl for a toy, the other teacher was on the sidelines with another baby and cheering on my son. All three were giving him the encouragement he needed to work on this new skill! The Children's Workshop isn't just a day care. Even at this early age, TCW is an educational institution working with our children to help them grow to age appropriate milestones! We even get reports home each month explaining which milestones my son reached and what he goals are for the next month: holding his own bottle, feeding himself food, learning how to use utensils or a sippy cup, crawling, walking, waving, etc. These teachers aren't just "teachers". They are friends and caring adults who I trust completely to help my son grow mentally, physically, and emotionally!

There was a period of high turnover where the director and assistant director left that we considered going elsewhere, but by the time we could get in anywhere, things settled down and the school got a new director. Since Jason has been at the helm, the school has never looked better and we have seen lots of improvements. We feel confident about the school under his leadership. The only other drawback about this school is the co$$$t, but it sure is nice not to have to pack a lunch or snacks which are included. I am always impressed with the arts and crafts done in the toddler rooms and also appreciate how often the children get out in the fresh air when possible. I was concerned when I first considered different childcare options that my very high energy, very…read morephysical preschooler would somehow not have his needs met at a school that is designed to meet the needs of those with special needs. Growing up in Rhode Island, I always thought of Meeting Street as a school for those with disabilities, but I didn't realize it was SO SO SO much more than that - it's a wonderful place for all children. From my very first meeting with the director, Miss Ange, I was very impressed - she addressed my concerns perfectly by saying they were used to addressing children as individuals and finding ways to meet their educational and emotional and physical needs. So if my child has a "high energy quota" (as she put it so wonderfully), they'll find ways to meet that proactively as an educational obstacle rather than try to force him to fit a certain mold (sit and listen) or punish his energy just as a behavioral problem. And they've met that every step of the way. They've got a wonderful playground that they use frequently, they have lots of physical activity including gym class (which is accessible to even his classmates with physical limitations), and they have an indoor sensory gym that allows for him to get his wiggles out even on rainy days. He's quickly learned that his energy isn't a bad thing, but how to channel it into the right directions so that he can be a good friend and classmate, and a good listener and nice student. His preschool teacher, Miss Abbi, has amazing energy and has managed to make great progress in his listening and socialization skills in the month he's been in class. He is now much more independent in putting his clothes and shoes on himself, he sits for quiet time when instructed to do so, he eats more foods than he did before starting school, and he's much better at interacting with other kids - asking to take turns, including others. I've also loved the app they use - it makes it easier to know when they've been checked in and out if someone other than me is doing it that day, and they send notes and photo updates throughout the day so both their Dad and I can see what they're up to at school. I fully believe my children (I also have a toddler who is also doing wonderfully) are better for being in such a loving environment where each child is an individual and loved for who they are, for having friends who may be different from them. It's a wonderful place, and I'd pick it every single time over and over as the childcare option for my kids. Every single day, my kids beg to go to school and hold hands and run into their classrooms with smiles and not a backwards glance at me. That's the best reward, knowing they love being there every day.
