The staff has taken good care of me after surgery. I will be going home tomorrow after a long stay.

Avoid at all cost! Beware of what you sign! Beware of incompetence on all levels. Beware of having your items stolen, 3rd world, uneducated and ignorant staff members. Beware of where your money is coming from- going to and be especially opened eyed about employees in the business office. Be very sure to ask for copies of every transaction made because they will try and secrete any and everything in paper form. Document every incident and file grievences because they make sure those incidents do not have a computerized data based system that stores nor is there a requirement that staff log in any complaints when they happen. If you are not of sound mind or have any mental heath issues they will take advantage of you! Make sure you have family members, friends or even better an Attorney on speed dial, if you don't not have an Avocate, you are a prime target for their bottomline - to make money off of you. They care about one thing and it will not be you! They get minus 5 stars!!! read more

Do not allow anyone to come here if there are any other options. Staff are totally unresponsive, no rehab provided, and no wheelchair. I came with 2 broken ankles and totally non-weight bearing and was not provided with a commode or wheelchair. I have been on involuntary bedrest for 4 days and have lost function since I arrived from the hospital. Developed a UTI because I was afraid to drink because no one comes to help with the bedpan and I didn't want to wet the bed. Developed lower back pain because I have been trapped in a bed since arrival. only once since I arrived did anyone help with bathing. I've heard staff yell at patients with dementia or mental illness. Horrifying. I never knew places like this existed. It's like a cross between a homeless shelter and a psych hospital but with meaner, less competent staff. Inexcusable. read more

When I first heard my loved one might be sent to CareOne @ Newton, I was terrified. After reading countless one-star reviews online, I felt certain that this was the worst-case scenario. I imagined the worst--poor care, dismal conditions, and a place where my loved one might not even make it out alive. I couldn't have been more wrong. From the moment we arrived, I realized how inaccurate those reviews were, and I felt compelled to share our positive experience with others who might be feeling the same fear I initially did. CareOne @ Newton is far from the nightmare I was dreading. The facility itself is absolutely beautiful--bright, clean, and welcoming. The rooms are spacious, well-maintained, and even have lovely views that help create a calming, almost serene environment. It's clear that thought and care went into the design of the space, which goes a long way in making both patients and families feel at ease. One of my biggest concerns going in was the quality of care my loved one would receive. Would the staff be attentive? Would they truly care about the patients? I can confidently say that the staff here exceeded my expectations. From the nurses to the aides to the administrators, everyone we interacted with was kind, patient, and professional. It was obvious that they genuinely care about the well-being of the people they are entrusted with. They took the time to address our questions and concerns, no matter how small, and always treated my loved one with dignity and respect. Another unexpected surprise was the quality of the food. Hospital or nursing home food is notorious for being bland or unappetizing, but that was not the case here. The meals were well-prepared, nutritious, and--most importantly--something my loved one actually enjoyed eating. It's small details like this that made such a difference in their recovery and overall experience. I also want to highlight the activities offered at CareOne @ Newton. They go above and beyond to keep their patients engaged and entertained. From games and social events to exercises and creative workshops, there's always something to do. These activities not only provide a sense of normalcy and joy but also play an important role in recovery and mental health. I'll attach photos and a copy of their activities page to give you a sense of the variety and effort they put into this part of the care experience. Of course, no facility is perfect, and if you're looking for a five-star luxury resort, you should probably be prepared to pay for one. CareOne @ Newton is a skilled nursing facility, and when you view it through that lens, it's truly top-notch. It's easy to nitpick or focus on small imperfections, but overall, I've been incredibly impressed with the level of care, professionalism, and dedication shown by everyone here. In the end, my fears about CareOne @ Newton couldn't have been more misplaced. Instead of the nightmare I was dreading, I found a facility that truly supports its patients and their families. My loved one received excellent care and made real progress in their recovery, which I honestly didn't think was possible when we first arrived. I'm so grateful for the team here and would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone in need of skilled nursing care. My loved one was in there after having a partial foot amputation. It took several days before a case manager reviewed his case. He did receive PT for several weeks and the therapist was good. He is diabetic. Sometimes his dinners consisted of pizza and a cooked vegetable or sloppy joes and tater tots. The dinners were appalling. We would bring fresh fruit when visiting. Is there a dietician on staff? The facility had RSV and Legionnaires disease during the 6 weeks he was there. There was no activities or communal meals encouraged. It was a sad place to be during the Christmas season. Once he appeared ready to be released (per his doctors) the case manager was still not returning messages about the status of his situation. The lack of communication was aggravating. He was in there a week or 2 more than needed. read more

AWFUL!!!!!! A family member of mine was there and there have been many falsified documented notes. No one has ever contacted family, or has had a face-to-face meeting(but was documented that they have). Stated that patient has adjusted well, UNTRUE!!!!! Family went to visit, my family member who resided there, was barely able to walk(was supposed to be in quarantine, was not)lips were blue. Just wanted to say thank you to the staff that took great care of my grandmother. Her rehab stay was short because we had to move her closer to home. Thank you to the assistants Margaret and Antoneed, nurse Roy and Maggie case manager. And everyone else involved in her care - PT/OT etc. They all immediately made us feel like family. All Caring, loving helpful and very patient people. I really appreciated the patient portal that let me stay connected to what was going on daily. Huge plus that I've never seen in other rehabs! Believe none of what you hear and none of what you read. My first impression when I arrived was chaos. People were sitting in the halls in their wheelchairs or chairs, talking, and it seemed loud. I looked at my dad and said, "Do not get comfortable and keep your sneakers on." The first person I met was KiKi, and right behind her was Angelique, reassuring me that he would be fine. I'll admit, I was on high alert. But they reassured me that he would be well taken care of. When I left, he was settled in his room, bathed, fed, and put to bed. In the days that followed, I came at various times, and each time, I saw that my father was being cared for. My initial judgment of Care One changed. What I had thought was chaos was actually people socializing in the hallways instead of lying in bed, and those walking up and down the halls were either doing OT or PT. They had a full schedule of activities, and as a designer, I noticed the place was festive, beautifully decorated for fall, and transitioned nicely into Christmas. My father received exceptional care at CareOne--better than when he was in the hospital. I am genuinely grateful for the staff's dedication. To top it off, I received an unexpected follow-up asking how my father was doing and adjusting once he got home. Thank you all who had a hand in my father's care. read more

Go some eplace else. While Physical Therapy is good, everything else is not. If you are not mobile you will wait for some person to show up to get you to the bathroom. You will wait a long time. They don't hire enough staff. Some of the nurses are good, many are not skilled or just don't care. The food is horrible. I Don know who is in the kitchen but they can6 cook. If you require any kind of special diet they really can't accommodate. I would never recommend this place. I look back on my time there as being in H E L L. read more

Some of the staff at CareOne are skilled and caring but many of them are not. They even appear to dislike their jobs and that results in less than adequate care for the individual patient. Medications are inconsistent and ordering from the pharmacy is often late and after the fact. Most disappointing are the therapies: PT and OT. The therapists do not know their schedule until they arrive at work that morning and the resident never knows when someone is coming. They take very little time "getting to know the nature of the problem" and this results in a lack of individual care. The meals are terrible. They just don't taste good.There are so many people to deliver meals to that it often arrives cold. read more

My 89 year old stepfather was sent there from Milton hospital to Rehabilitation for COVID-19. He was there for approximately 5 weeks. It wss was difficult to speak with him. Careone newton is truly an amazing place. Ive worked there since September 23rd 2019. 1 1/2 years during this time most of it was through this pandemic which has been so difficultfor us all in Healthcare. I've been in the health-care industry for many years and have worked in many facilities and careone newton by far exceeds my high expectations of what a work environment should be like as well as what the service and care we provide. I am greatful to work with such skilled knowledgeable professional team they are driven dedicated and work with passion. No place is perfect there are faults for sure but this facility identifies them comes up with a plan and works on improvement. Im so happy to work at this center as they share the same morals as me which is truly patient comes first everything we do is centered around what's best for each individual. read more

I am appalled by the quality of care provided at CareOne's Bradford Unit. I literally saved my Dad's life by taking him home after three full days of torture. He was not able to sleep a wink because of the never ending loud night parties at the nursing station. All his humble requests were completely disregarded.  He, as well as other patients, were treated by these so called nurses as someone with the only one way out: death. It is mind boggling how people like them can be even called "nurses". Luckily, my Dad's mind still works brilliantly despite his age (92 years old) and he was able to tell me the horror stories about so called "medical personnel" in this facility. Never again we will set foot in this factory of death and I would advise everyone with elderly parents to avoid this CareOne establishment like the plague. I will spread the word about this disgusting place where post-COVID patients are literally being tortured. Your loved one will never recover at this horrific place. To say that their "nurses" show total disrespect of human life and dignity with every step they make would be an understatement. read more

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO DIE. My grandfather was a patient at CareOne in Newton the past few weeks. I am confident that my grandfather had been extremely neglected at this facility. He was moved there after recovering from COVID-19 and had been declining since he arrived. My mother and I voiced our concerns to the faculty multiple times only to be ignored or told "he is fine" when in fact he was not. One of his aids facetimed my mother from his private cell phone and voiced his concerns about my grandfather's condition. He was being left there alone in his room to die of starvation and dehydration. After desperately trying to get my grandfather out of this facility he has finally been sent to the hospital. The emergency informed us that he is in horrible condition. He desperately needed fluids, had a 102° fever, a possible secondary infection and possibly pneumonia. A few hours before his transfer we were told by his nurse at CareOne that he was "fine". The level of neglect at this facility is completely disgusting. This facility NEEDS to be SHUT DOWN read more

My 75 year old father Fractured his Hip and was adminsittered to Careone Newton for rest and rehab. I was very optimistic that he would get good treatment and I wouldn't have to worry about him while he was being treated. It ended up being the worst 30 days of my fathers life and the most stressful time of my life. First off if you ring the Bell for assistance you get yelled at by the staff. He would asked to be helped from the chair to the bed after his PT and was told nobody was capable of helping him. He constantly asked for a shower and was handed a face cloth. He only had 1 shower in 30 days. He was even sworn at by the staff. Also he was supposed to get an X-Ray Before being discharged so we could see if his hip is healing . They ended up making excuses why he couldn't have it done and because of this his insurance company pulled thr plug and he left without having an X RAY. Lastly discharge took 2 hours even though I made it clear I had to work at noon. I got there at 9:30 and discharged at 11:30. You would be better off leaving your loved ones to fend for them selves. This place is terrible and z just wants to collect and avoid being sued read more

Very bad experience with this facility. They would not return my calls (The Director of the Facility, Director of Rehab, Social worker--none of them) They did not provide services to my Dad who was there for Rehab at all for the first 3 days. Finally they offered him a 10 minute walk with an aide in the hallway on the 4th day. They said thy were short staffed and "maybe next week" they could get him started on Rehab. We had to rescue my Dad from rotting in bed finally on the 5th day when it was clear he was worse off being there than at home. Received zero benefit from being here, and on the contrary, i think the state weakened him worse. I can not recommend you send any loved one here. read more

My mimi was here for about a couple of weeks last month for rehab. Needless to say, we were all nervous because this was the first time anyone in my family has been to any medical type of facility during this whole COVID mess. I'm sorry for those that had bad experiences but mine wasn't anything like that. from before mimi even admitted, they had reached out explaining what's going on and introduced themselves. Yeah sure the phone wasn't the best but they always replied via email. I have to say Somayaha the manager was great. Nona always said nice things about her nurse Adam. My nona even said good things about the assistants. thankfully she wasn't there for long, just a couple of weeks but i would recommend this to others if you had to go. maybe the short term unit is better than others but mimi is home now and safe and better. read more

This place is a horror show!! It's just like the neglectful, disgusting places you see on the news. I had to go there in the middle of the night to get my mother out because of the verbal abuse and neglectful care she had. She was sent there for rehab due to covid by the equally disgusting Milford Regional hospital. She was there for 2 days and never got out of her bed! She was yelled at to "shut up and mind your business". There was some very loud disturbance and things being thrown around outside her room. She's mostly blind and was very scared! She sat wet without being changed for over 6 hours. Her dinner was a barely warm hotdog in a soggy bun. What's even more disturbing is how horribly one of the attendants (there aren't nurses here) was speaking about me to my wife as I was bringing her to the car. Also, they were very concerned about their wheelchair. 3 or 4 times told me I can't take the wheel chair. I DON'T WANT YOUR EFFING WHEEL CHAIR! I have sent this to the Elder Affairs officer in Newton and also the Attorney Generals office. This place should be shut down. 1 star because there's no zero option. read more

I wish I could provide a 0 star review for this inept and quite honestly abusive rehab. My mother in law was brought to this location direct from Newton Wellesley hospital. When we arrived she had been there for a couple of hours and in a state of confusion and distress. We quickly found out that she had not even been admitted at this point. We spoke with Oliver and the nurse about some concerns we had and were assured that they would address these concerns, most importantly that she was a diabetic and on other medication that she would need. Fast forward almost 4 hours later, these concerns were still not addressed, in fact both the nurse and Oliver went on an hour break during this time, leaving the entire section of people they were in care of without care. During this time alarms from rooms were going unanswered and patients were not being attended to. The noise and distraction at 10pm was continuous due to lack of response and I cannot imagine anyone being able to have a decent night's rest. On two occasions a patient requested that another patient be asked to turn their insanely loud tv. I could not believe my eyes as I watched the nurse yell at him to return to his room and shut his door if he didn't like it. I was in TOTAL shock to see a nurse yell at a patient in this manner, on 2 separate occasions. When the nurse finally came into the room, almost 5 hours after arrival to the hospital we had decided to remove her from the facility and bring her back to the hospital until we found an alternative rehab location. At this point we received a call from the facilities administrator who tried to work out a way to avoid this. In fact our concerns that were not addressed in 5 hours, were somehow going to be immediately resolved. We could not in good conscious leave our loved one at this location and proceeded to transfer her to the hospital and fortunately have found an impeccable rehab facility. I do not know where to report this location except to share our experience with others online. If you have a loved one that needs rehab, I would avoid this location at ANY cost. UPDATE: after writing this I was made aware of an article in The Lawrence Tribute from June 10th, 2019 that their sister facility, Careone Peabody is on a 'federal list' of troubled nursing homes. Starvation and dehydration are on the menu here. Call lights on for hours, nobody ever around to help. Family member was admitted for about a month and recently moved to another facility nearby. They aren't allowing visitors at this time and he is speech disabled/talks very little and doesn't use the phone. It was like he had disappeared in there. I could rarely reach anyone on his unit by phone and and an email to someone went unanswered. You can't even leave a message, it just rings. When I did get someone they'd tell me they were making no progress and that he was aggressive. He's extremely passive and docile normally and is very weak and deconditioned right now so it was hard to believe. He was released about a week ago to Maristhill (without any of his belongings, I had to pick them up) and the admitting nurse said they weren't even aware he was coming until he showed up. He's made more progress in one week there then he made the entire time at Care One. read more

My father, who was recently a patient of Care One Newton was admitted to MGH and then admitted to Careone facility for rehab services. We received a call that he was being sent to the hospital for being non responsive (not speaking or responding to questions asked), and lethargy. My Dad was then admitted to Newton Wellesley hospital where my brother and I were informed of my dad having a 40+ lb weight loss, and came to them with a very large (INCURABLE NOW) Bed sore, and a UTI. I received a call ONCE regarding his bed sore when he was in CareOne, which at that point I was told by Dr Nassar he was not concerned about this sore and it was very small. We were never notified on how much weight my dad had actually lost or how bad the bed sore was getting, we were not notified of the GIANT bed sore that I KNOW did not occur overnight. I am absolutely, positively DISGUSTED and incredibly heartbroken that my father had to endure this kind of treatment. Our family has been through so much - Just losing my mom unexpectedly last year (who was Dad's main caretaker) and this just really made everything worse, He is declining which we knew was going to come, but there was NO NEED for this to happen to him, My Dad could potentially pass away due to this treatment and we are beyond upset. Anyone who has seen my Dad (including medical professionals that cared for my father) has asked where he was (which rehab) and why was he not taken care of. At this moment I am just too devastated to even speak with someone, But we will be getting to the bottom of all of this and we would like some explanation and answers as to why this happened to my Dad. Financial reasoning, I had to return to work, which is why we were not there more often to see him, but that should not be an excuse - he is under the care of Care one and it was CAREONE's responsibility to make sure these types of things didn't happen. A bed sore is a complete sign he was not being turned, he was clearly not being kept dry. Last time he was there, the Physical therapist we felt just gave up on him and my brother had to travel there 4x a week to help "push my dad in to wanting to do PT" Now even that was a little ridiculous to ask of a family. We will look further into who to contact specifically and would like something done about this so no other family will have to endure the pain we are going through right now watching my Dad now have no choice but to be in Hospice and shortly we will lose him. If anyone in this facility has the littlest compassion for the patients you have, there WILL be something done about this and not just an Im sorry because I am sorry we are losing my father, I'm sorry is not enough. We are a VERY hands-on family for my Dad and his care and we have been told this by almost anyone who has cared for him, even your own facility. So for this one visit we were not able to be at his side as much as we could in the past, we assumed he was well taken care of and we would hear otherwise. I called MANY times while Dad was admitted to CareOne to speak with ANYONE and was transferred to the nursing line which no one had answered - We only received a call when they needed something from us. I am just completely devastated over this and I just hope that no family would ever have to re-live what we are going through right now, especially knowing these were things that could have been prevented. He may be just a resident/patient in your facility - But as I treat people (I work in healthcare as well) with the same respect I would my own family, That was not the case at CareOne and I just wish he was never even admitted to your facility. UPDATE AFTER I HAD WRITTEN THIS - My Dad has now passed as of 01/06/2023. I really wish we never, ever had him admitted to this facility. I am heartbroken. read more

My 95 yr old Mother was at CareOne Newton slightly over 2 weeks. Upon discharge she was transferred to another rehab where she was immediately diagnosed with pneumonia, an e coli uti, (which is contracted from not being attended to or allowing the patient to sit in their own waste, at length). She had a bed sore at her lower back and her heels were boggy which is evidence to me there was no PT performed. I have a very strong notion that CareOne allowed my mother to linger in bed without the care and attention she so rightly deserved. This rehab is should not be in business. They should be condemned. read more

This has got to be the worst place for seniors ever! The building itself is beautiful but looks can be deceiving! The workers there always standing around the desk talking instead of taking care of their patients! My mom had hip replacement surgery and also Alzheimer's and they wouldn't lend a hand to help her off her bed I had to help her with her walker! They didn't even want to shower her one of the workers left me holding my mom in the shower they are useless! They also told me to wash my mothers hair in the bathroom sink ! Unbelievable awful staff! After that when she used the bathroom they didn't even clean it up right away with species all over the toilet and floor! My mom could of caught infection from this place! Then they gave her a broken wheelchair and said the leg was missing because it was part of her therapy! That was BS! The wheelchair was broken and I demanded they bring a new one in! The workers have no personality either didn't even say a word to my mom like how is your day going or how are you feeling today! I'm so thankful she is getting moved out of there to a better place where she can be well taken care if and me any family don't have to worry anymore! So if you have a parent that needs any rehabilitation don't bring them there! That place is the worst!! read more

The staff are mean. They treat their patients with minimal respect. The nursing aides do the bare minimum as far as ADL care goes. The management tells you things you want to hear and then does the complete opposite. I have filed multiple complaints to their HR department and no action as been taken.
