The oxtails are tender juicy and cooked right. The gravy was tasty too. The red peas and rice was the right consistency. The owners Paul and Marie have created a Jamaican food gem here in Palm Coast. Did I mention that they bake their own beef patty that a treat!

My stars are for the beef oxtails. Flavorful brown, rich gravy smother the tender, delicious oxtails. Comes as a combo that includes rice and beans , mixed vegetables, & two slices of plaintains, which are ok. But the oxtails is what I care for & it's on point. There are usually 3 main combos each day, Goat or Chicken Curry, and Oxtails. They have beef & vegetable patties also. Reminiscent of the Golden Krust beef patties. Just call ahead if you want to know what's available. I haven't tried anything other than oxtails and beef patties. I would assume it serves as a place for To-Go orders, since it's a relatively small grocer/restaurant selling some Jamaican grocery items.. and there's only a table with one chair. It's locally owned by a sweet, old couple.

I don't like to give bad reviews, but this one is a must. We bought the ox-tail and the so called brown stew chicken and the only reason I didn't take it back was because I was passing through Palm Coast. The ox-tail lacked flavor, the cabbage and rice were plain. The brown stew chicken tasted like spicy barbecue.. what a disappointment. Save yourself the trouble and hit a Caribbean spot in Daytona or Jacksonville.

Showed up 45 mins later, right at the time the food was supposed to be ready for pickup. When we arrived, they had not even started our food and said it would take another 15 minutes. Since we'd already paid, we decided to wait . 25 minutes it was finally ready. When we got to the hotel, it was apparent this was not authentic Jamaican food from the appearance alone. What was supposed to be red beans and rice was plain rice with a handful of green peas in it. The oxtails were tough and tasteless, the rice a mushy mess and the macaroni and cheese a gooey and bland. The sorrel and ginger drink tasted like gasoline- I have on idea what was in it. After paying a hundred dollars for two plates and two drinks, I was highly disappointed. I never expected to get this level of low quality food in Florida. The service was already bad - I would have forgotten that if the food were tasty. Instead it was just insult added to injury. What a waste of time and money!

Years later, and the food is still what keeps bringing us back!…read more My husband is on vacation this week, so we headed to El Pollo Colorao for lunch today as a party of four. We've been eating here for years, and while we love supporting local, enjoy the atmosphere, and have always found the staff friendly, let's be honest -- the food is why we keep coming back. We arrived around 1:30 and had two groups ahead of us at the counter, but the line moved quickly. In fact, there was a pretty steady line the entire time we were there, right up until we left around 2:30. Their takeout business was hopping too! Despite how busy they were, we had no problem finding a table in the dining room. I decided to branch out this visit and tried the #14 Pernil Sandwich with yellow rice. The sandwich has roasted pork and potato straws on their delicious bread, and my first comment after taking a bite was about how flavorful the pork was. It was tender and juicy, and I loved the contrast of the crunchy potato straws with the pork and that soft, slightly sweet bread. So good! Two people in our group ordered the #2 Tripleta, one with yellow rice and the other with yuca. The Tripleta is actually the favorite sandwich of all three of my family members. They love the combination of meats along with the crunch from the potato straws. My husband is normally firmly on Team Tripleta too, but decided to branch out and order the Mediodia this time. We were told when ordering that it would take about 30 minutes and were given the option to change his order, which I appreciated. He decided to wait and was glad he tried it. He enjoyed it, but since he tends to prefer savory over sweet, I have a feeling he'll be right back to his beloved Tripleta next time. And, as always, he got his favorite side -- the maduros. Yum! When everything was ready, they brought our food and drinks right to the table on a tray. The gentleman who took our order was very personable, and Abel came over to our table while we were eating. He recognized my husband and remembered his name -- which really impressed me considering it has probably been about a year since our last visit. And can we talk about the value? We spent about $60 for four meals with sides, three drinks AND a bag containing two loaves of their bread to take home. Yes, we buy the bread every time. It's that good. Even better, the portions are so generous that everyone took about half of their sandwich home for dinner. They definitely don't skimp on the meat here, so you fill up quickly. The dining area is comfortable and has some fun, whimsical artwork that gives the place plenty of personality. They also have a nice assortment of drink options and seating by the windows for customers waiting on takeout orders, which seems to help keep the dining tables available even when they're busy. After all these years and multiple visits, El Pollo Colorao continues to earn 5 stars from us. Great food, generous portions, good value, friendly people, and a locally owned restaurant we're happy to continue supporting.

Servers were friendly, a bit on the "chill" side but honestly just giving off the "island vibe". One thing to note, there appears to be and "indoor' type dining area and then a more outside, screened in type area. We accidentally entered to outside area and sat there before realizing this. It was a pretty pleasant evening and they did engage the fans out there but if it's a warmer period you might opt for Inside Dining. We had draft beer, the amber lager made for Mango Mangoes, Tasty and cold! Here's what is surprising, the menu is pretty varied but it's not so complicated that you get exhausted looking at it. Just enough to give everyone a choice and we were all about it. I had the Chipotle Shrimp Tacos with seasoned fries as my side. Really good! I was worried the Chipotle treatment might be overwhelming the shrimp but it was pretty subtle and the shrimp came through. There are plenty of sauces and seasonings on the table if you want to amp up the experience! Others had the Daily special Reuben, which they thought was a pretty standard Reuben but VERY good and worth a return trip just for that. Another ordered the Corn Cake, entree version, 1 Cake and it was a large serving! Everyone left very happy and agreed this was a great choice!
