We ordered from Caridad on a Saturday night because my sister didn't feel like cooking for the whole family. We were all excited to enjoy a nice meal together, but the chicharrón de pollo was a big letdown. It was so salty that none of us could eat it. My niece, nephew, parents, friend, sister and I all tried, and it was just impossible. We ended up throwing it away, which was really disappointing. We also waited a long time for it and after an hour, they brought the wrong ones. We ordered the bone ones and they brought the boneless. The rest of the food was much better. The sancocho was actually the star of the night. My dad loved it, and when I tried it, it was flavorful and delicious. The pork mofongo and white rice were also tasty and well prepared. It's just frustrating that the chicharrón de pollo, which is usually something we all enjoy, was so oversalted that it took away from the experience. I'm hoping this was just an off night because the other dishes showed they can make really good food. read more

Came here with a large group for dinner. The restaurant was able to accommodate us right away and placed us in the back area. Interior was lovely and colorful, with luxe touches of greenery, as well as flowers. There was also an expansive and beautiful looking upstairs area. I really wanted to try the Picalonga Platter and thankfully was able to find someone to share it with. This was plated impressively, consisting of Longaniza sausage, salami, pork cracklings, fried beef strips, fried cheese, and tostones, topped with pickled red onion and peppers. I enjoyed the Pork Cracklings, Sausage, Fried Cheese. The pork was perfectly crunchy and full of flavor. Sausage was juicy and well seasoned. Fried cheese was satisfyingly crisp. Tostones were just okay. They were not thin enough for my liking, but tasted better with the garlic sauce. I was not a fan of the beef strips, because it was way too tough and wasn't that flavorful. Service was pretty good, but there was some miscommunication on the orders. Overall, the waitress was friendly and did her best. This place served Dominican cuisine, but I found the menu to be very Americanized, so don't think I would return. read more

Today, I ordered the traditional Dominican soup, sancocho, for $7. Watch my video; it was more like a thin broth than the hearty dish I expected. To make matters worse, the service gets a C-. The server seemed to struggle to find ingredients in the pot to add to my cup, and instead of letting me know they were out and offering something else, she served it anyway. One of my favorite neighborhood spots and I'm glad it's still around even after I moved out of NYC years ago. The family meal deal is a great price for the amount of food you get, and the price has only increased slightly. For the family meal special, you get enough food to feed a family of four. You choose between a whole rotisserie chicken, steak, or chicken chunks. A choice of rice and beans, salad option, and a 2-liter of soda. All for ~$30! Been going here since I was a child and before it used to be crowded with guests, but nowadays it seems it's mostly focused on take-out since the inside is empty. The food is still good if you are craving Dominican good. One thing I did notice is that they open around 11am and that's late especially since they used to open earlier and offer breakfast. Today we stopped at this location since it was recommended by a local. I am not familiar with the area & wanted good food after the charity run I completed with my son & husband. The waiter Victor was so attentive, kind and provided prompt service. The vibes were nice, music softly playing in background. The other Katie (I actually think it was Katy) ate good that night thanks to me! Review based on delivery experiences The past two times we ordered delivery, they took over an hour and a half! And this was with calling once the hour hit to ask about an update and then again 15 min later since they claimed that delivery was already on the way (and we are only a couple of blocks from the restaurant so it should not take so long). The food, on the other hand, is generally good. -grilled chicken: surprisingly good. Meat was lean (non-fatty pieces) and included a good amount. The flavor was quite mild but I prefer this as one can add spices rather than it being salty like they have made some dishes in the past. -large tostones: good amount, came a little soft. Seemed like the oil they were cooked in needed to be changed. -steak encebollado: hit or miss; once it came perfectly flavorful, and another time it was salty and had different flavoring. -Red beans: medium thickness/consistency. Has more beans than some other Dominican places that try to give mostly caldo (broth) Overall the food is generally good and up to par with casual Dominican/Hispanic restaurants. I would not recommend ordering from them. Perhaps pick up is a better option although I have not tried this. read more

A simple dining experience with delicious food! Caridad has some of my favorite Latin comfort food that's quick and easy for me to pickup on my way home. When I have time, I like dining in the restaurant to sip on some sangria with my meal. My favorite go to dish is the boneless chicken chunks served with rice and beans. It hits the spot every time. My boyfriend and I love the food here especially their chicken soup! My boyfriend got me a chicken soup and I was enjoying it as usual. Later on I warmed it up more in the microwave, thankfully the microwave at my home doesn't explode when placing metal dish wear because the inside of our microwave is made up of steel etc, otherwise this would have been highly hazardous. Honestly feel very disgusted because I came across two steel/metal/aluminum thick bristles and I bit into one and was confused as to what felt so out of the ordinary. I took it out of my mouth and there it was, a very long metal stick. I got so scared! Then i started digging more and found another one. This is unacceptable! They should be cautious and careful of what falls into their soup etc. I don't feel safe buying from this caridad again for some reason. I could have accidentally swallowed that and choked and it could have been very fatal. Well just imagine swallowing something that's not suppose to go down your esophagus or stomach. I don't even want to imagine how my body would have reacted since I am highly allergic to so many things. Beware do not eat or order at this restaurant. I placed an order for days in advance for Mother's Day. My uncle traveled from Connecticut to pick up the food and when the food arrived we noticed that instead of them sending us three pernil (pork) sandwiches they send us Cuban sandwiches that had very little meat, was soggy, and full of lettuce. In addition the steak and tostones was burnt like charcoal. The chicken was hard, dry and had no taste. They forgot our beans and the chicken soup we ordered was watered down and had the part of the meat from the back of the chicken. In addition they didn't send us any napkins or forks. Immediately I called the restaurant to make a complaint and was passed around to numerous workers explaining my story over and over. I asked if they could give my uncle a credit and they refused telling me the only thing they could do was have us bring all the food we threw away back to the restaurant. I explained the restaurant was far from where we live and the lady I spoke to hung up on me. I called the restaurant back and another lady said I'm busy there's nothing I can do if you don't bring the food back. Again I asked for a credit for my uncle after he paid 165.00 for horrible tasting food and again she refused. We were trying to make Mother's Day special for my 102 year old grandmother who didn't even get to eat. The food is nasty. Do yourself a favor and save your money! Do not eat at this restaurant. Caridad is your typical Dominican restaurant. It offers a variety of Dominican cuisine to choose from and has a fairly inexpensive drink menu. Now onto the review for this specific Caridad: I went this past Sunday and it was a group of 16 of us. We were quickly seated in the upstairs dining area, which we had all to ourselves. The staff was very friendly as they waited on us and even played some of the tunes we requested (DJ equipment was also upstairs). After taking our order we did have to wait a while to receive everything, which is understandable given the size of the group. I ordered the camarafongo (which is basically mashed plantains with a butter sauce and shrimp) and very much enjoyed my meal. I did have a bite here and there of the chicharon de pollo and empanadas my friends had ordered. I wouldn't say the food was bad, but it didn't stand out as exceptionally great food. We were there almost until closing I believe. The staff was friendly the whole time and very helpful. What I did not like is that we were seated in two different tables, but charged one bill. It made things a bit more complicated than they needed to be. Overall, 1. good prices (especially for Manhattan) 2. friendly staff 3. decent food I would come back if I were in the area and craving Dominican food, even though that rarely happens (I am Dominican and eat a lot of these menu items all the time). read more
