    Pernil Lunch Special
    Lucy R.

Food was completely tasteless, pernil had no flavor just taste like ham. My maduros were dry and burnt, and the rice had a burnt flavor too like the flame was high. El arroz estaba ahumado, los maduros seco y duro y el pernil no tenía sabor. I do not recommend a spot that rather sell their food that's burnt and bad quality just to sell it out and make money. Had I not lived in 87street I would go back and return it.

Pollo al Horno Arroz con Camarones

Arguably the best Dominican joint near Columbia nursing/ CUMC...if not the best (cuz who knows, I'm not Dominican and will not pretend that I know much about what the real locals eat- I just watch and follow their orders when I can) then at least the closest in walking distance. Rice and beans are to die for. Love their pollo al horno and pernil- I can never bedside because with love both so much. Cheap lunch pricing- but be prepared for major food coma that will make you unproductive for the rest of the day. Worth the sluggishness tho.

A really good option for Dominican food from a steam table. It all looks amazing, fresh and hot with really nice woman behind the counter ready to help serve food. We went for the mangu (with cheese, salami, and scrambled eggs) and were extremely happy and well-fed. $8 for a platter of mighty fine food that could barely get through...yes, please! There's a narrow space in the back to sit down and eat. But it's super narrow, so if you're bigger than a group of two, expect to eat close but seperated!

    Oxtail. So good!

Small local restaurant that's got some seriously legit Dominican flavors going on! On top of that, just about all the options are $10 or below. Tried the oxtail, chicken, and beef stew and everything was great! There were plenty of protein options, so I was sad that I didn't get the chance to try more. Definitely going to come back for some of that Sancocho next time. The ladies at the counter were incredibly helpful, especially if you can decide which item to choose because just about everything looks delicious. The restaurant is a bit tight with limited seating. Also not the most ventilated so would suggest take out as the primary option. $10 credit card minimum.

    Rice and (half eaten) chicken

Delicious food at a decent price for the area. There are no menus but all the food are displayed in behind the counter. They speak mostly Spanish but don't let that deter you from trying this restaurant. They do speak some English but if all else fails you can always point to what you want. I had chicken and rice with beans for $6. The chicken was delicious. It was stewed and was very tender. They also had oxtail, pork, and a variety of rice. There are also some seats in the back if you would like to dine in.

Came here for lunch. They have great prices for lunch. I got a to-go lunch:white rice with habichuelas and fried chicken chunks with a little salad for $7 dollars. The salad was placed in a little cup, iceberg lettuce with one piece of tomato. The beans were a little more garlicky then I would have liked them to be. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned. Overall, would come back and try something else as they have a variety of options. Restaurant is really small, and they also have a few seats in the back if you wanna dine-in.

This is their so called chicharron de pollo . NEVER AGAIN!
    Jasmine R.

Most of the reviews are for their lunch food. I made the mistake of ordering a combo . I ordered the chicharron de pollo bone in . Let me tell you it was the saddest order of chicken I've ever seen . Literally it was just fried bones. It was chicken necks and ribs and the ends of drum sticks. When I called, the woman tried saying it was because chicken shrinks when you fry it . I'm not some gringo she can feed that line to . Of all the uptown spots this will be a first time and last time for me . So many other BETTER places to get fast Spanish food to go. The beans were watery as hell just tasted like a whole bunche of achiote and vinegar. Oh and the maduros. Smh it looked like they took the rotten ones and decided to fry them up in an effort not to waste food . NEVER AGAIN ...not even if my kids are hungry and i'm on my way home .

First time here, the mofongo was delicious. I had the cheese mofongo and you can tell it was made fresh. I wish I lived closer but will def be back!

Rice, beans, & baked chicken + tostones + fried plantains + salad
    Natalie N.

I'm not familiar with the neighborhood but I knew I wanted to eat something other than fast food so I searched nearby places and found this. The location is easily accessible, it's a block away from the train station. It was lunchtime so I got rice, beans, & baked chicken. I also got a small side of tostones and added fried plantains to meet the minimum card charge. They also included a side of salad, free of charge! Service was good; the women were really pleasant. The amount of food I got for $10 was even better; if I'm in the area, I'll definitely be going back.

Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats

Everyone agreed with my suggestion to eat Latin American food and we made a reservation at Buena Vista, not far away from our hotel and also not far from the theater. We came over a bit early, around 5:15 and were immediately seated. We were immediately impressed by the business model. It is a melange of Latin American and Iberian faire with exquisite curation. Their cocktails were absolutely delightful, I had a Pantalones en Fuego, others had an exquisite margarita with passion fruit flavor and a Daiquirí de Fresa, just amazing. Then we ordered interminable Hors d'oeuvres. Their ham croquetas and mushroom croquetas were the rage, as well as the tostoncillos ibéricos and ceviche limeño, The main courses followed, a paella valenciana for two, the magret de pato, a delicious duck dish, and a grilled Argentine parrilla. Not bad for four people. Dessert included churros and tres leches. And of course, a bottle of a great Verdejo. Service was just flawless. We had several staff members all contributing to making our Father's Day evening special. All around us it was festive, with plenty of well dressed Spanish speakers in several tables, and the accents of a half a dozen Spanish speaking countries. Plenty of gringoes too. A beautiful collection of diversity. We left happy, ready to see "Oh Mary" and wanting to return
