I absolutely love New San Francisco Restaurant. I have been a customer of theirs for several years and I've noticed many other hospital workers are frequent customers. I have to start with commending their outstanding hospitality. The ladies who work there make me feel like family whenever I come in and it's a nice, cozy environment when I dine in. I have tried many of their entrees such as stew chicken, pork guisado, oxtail stew, bacalao, chicken soup, plantains and sancocho. Everything is consistently flavorful and their portions are generous. I usually get their passion fruit juice which is refreshing. When I need a pick me up, I opt for a cafe con leche which is a nice strong Bustelo. Thank you, New SF, for being a neighborhood gem. Wow! Excellent, authentic dominican food! This mom & pop shop is legit. I ordered the chicken stew on turkey rice & a side of tostones. That chicken stew was sooo delicious, well seasoned and so damn moist and tender! That sauce was heaven and I used it to dip the tostones! The tostones were good - they didn't add salt to it but there is salt and other condiments on the table for you to season it. I have eaten at many dominican shops & food in DR, and this place is legit. Highly recommended! They have a large variety of foods & snacks (empanadas and other fried items). There are some foods (such as oxtail and sancocho) that are only sold on specific days. In the back, there is a small dining area (for those who dine in or ordered take out). Food was completely tasteless, pernil had no flavor just taste like ham. My maduros were dry and burnt, and the rice had a burnt flavor too like the flame was high. We went for the mangu (with cheese, salami, and scrambled eggs) and were extremely happy and well-fed. $8 for a platter of mighty fine food that could barely get through...yes, please! Came here for lunch. They have great prices for lunch. I got a to-go lunch:white rice with habichuelas and fried chicken chunks with a little salad for $7 dollars. The salad was placed in a little cup, iceberg lettuce with one piece of tomato. The beans were a little more garlicky then I would have liked them to be. The chicken was well cooked and seasoned. Most of the reviews are for their lunch food. I made the mistake of ordering a combo . I ordered the chicharron de pollo bone in . Let me tell you it was the saddest order of chicken I've ever seen . Literally it was just fried bones. It was chicken necks and ribs and the ends of drum sticks. When I called, the woman tried saying it was because chicken shrinks when you fry it . I'm not some gringo she can feed that line to . Of all the uptown spots this will be a first time and last time for me . So many other BETTER places to get fast Spanish food to go. The food here was good, but the bathroom had no toilet paper or hand soap, despite the "all employees must wash hands" sign. Maybe just a busy day and they didn't have time to restock. They also probably have a hand washing station in the kitchen. Still, bring hand sanitizer just in case. read more

They get the extra star because the staff is sweet and friendly. The food is lacking flavor, lacking texture, and lukewarm. I like to see if it changes different days, different times, and different meals before I stop trying. After going there 5 times, it is not up to snuff. You're better off going up a few blocks to Marilu and Daysi on Audobon between 175 and 176th for a good meal. The fried salami was lukewarm, soggy and had a weird taste. The mangu was lukewarm, and has a weird sour taste, like if they added a ton of lime juice to it. The fried cheese was lukewarm and gummy. It's like it was boiled in oil. The malanga was super dry and flavorless. The scrambled eggs managed to both be dry (over cooked) and swimming in oil. The boiled green bananas were ok...not great, but not offensive. read more
