They make a really good chicken soup and white rice. That's what I purchased when I stopped in on such a cold day in February in the Bronx. It really is a nice looking reasurant. From the pictures I took the food looks pretty tasty. The three stars is for the service. I have been living in the Bronx for many years and it saddens me to still feel like my business is not wanted in some Spanish establishments. This place felt like one of them. My waitress or the woman who helped me, was not pleasant. I don't know if it was because it was in the morning, 10 a.m. or what. I just know she seemed like she was activated with everything that I asked for or about. Coming here I was excited to try the mofongo because the food looks amazing in pictures. The theme of the restaurant is super cute and creative and it definitely resembles una casa de campo. When we first came there were two tables open and so the server who was on duty (an older woman) advised us to choose where we would like to sit. We sat down and looked at the menu. We decided on the traditional mofongo, which is the one with chicharron. We waited a really long time for our food to come. And an hour after ordering is when the server came to apologize and to tell us they were behind in the kitchen. The server was overwhelmed as she was the only server on duty and we overheard her saying "nobody is here helping me so idk what they want me to do" to the delivery guy who was getting on his bike to take an order. After this we waited about 20 more minutes and the food finally came. This restaurant is the place to go if you love posting food videos on your Instagram. However, the food is not that great. I was excited to try the mofongo and I expected it to have a real Dominican authentic cheese sauce and/or at least topped with real cheese. But instead they use some cheap nacho cheese that can be found at your nearest 7/11. This sauce can have potential if they really cared for their guests they'd make an exquisite cheese sauce with some GEO cheese or queso de oja. From the DR with so many great cheeses and ingredients they can definitely crear something palatable. Now let's talk about the chicharron. No crispy skin, 90% fat, no flavor. On the menu this is described as "Dominican style" chicharron. And if you are not Dominican please don't be fooled. This is not it. I was so disappointed Lastly, and the most shocking thing was that they serve their natural juices in tin mugs, which in the DR are a tradition. In every Dominican household we have these and it is a nice touch to the restaurant, which has a campesino vibe to it. However, after enjoying the delicious pineapple and guanabana juice we were greeted by the rust at the bottom of the cup. ALOT of rust. When I saw this after indulging in my delicious juice I was disgusted and I contemplated wether or not to tell the server. After going back and forth with my fiancé, I decided to do it and her reaction was appalling. When she approached our table I signaled for her to come closer and I told her in a low voice since there were many guests around and I didn't want to make it as if we are trying to make the place look bad. She stated and I quote "oh no mama, this is how these cups are. We just received a shipping of these cups from DR and they are all rusty, so this is how it is around here and over there." Please be advised she was speaking quite loudly that the table behind us even commented on it to each other. Then i proceeded to tell her that once these cups rust, you should discard them and not continue to serve in them but she refused to understand that and at this point I just ask for my bill. The entire experience here was a disaster and the server was completely unprofessional and I think she should be trained on how to handle a situation like this. She basically screamed in our faces and belittled us in front of other guests. It was honestly embarrassing and I won't be back here. I do understand she may have been overwhelmed with all the tables she had but if she cannot handle the table she should speak up. To the manager, I hope you take my review and look into the faults here. Being a hospitality professional I know how important it is to see reviews and learn from them in order to have your business succeed. And I am not going to lie and make up a story that is not true. If you can create a thorough training manual for your staff members, it would be a valuable addition. Also maybe, empower your employees in the kitchen to incorporate more authentic ingredients into your cheese sauce. read more

We called to make a reservation -they don't take reservations over the phone (should have been the first red flag) We got to a packed place (a sign of a good restaurant) !!?? WRONG!!! We waited 20 minutes to be seated, the music was too loud Only one bathroom- (for employees and clients) we waited 1:15 for the food to arrived- waitress offered a side of crab cakes (uñas de cangrejo) and said "just because you look like you are just about to pass out"... when we got the bill we actually had to pay $7 for cold crab cakes. Overall it is expensive for the quality of food they served they lock in customer service. Food arrived at the table on the cold side The bill was over $140USD. 1 shrimp mofongo -2 mofongia with churrasco -churrasco was over cooked -they don't ask you how would you like your meat cooked, I guess it is just how they serve it. While we were leaving we overheard people complaining about waiting time. I would not recommend this restaurant- we have been to smaller restaurants in the area with better food and more pleasant waiters /managers. read more

I loveeee this place. It's a taste of DR here in the Bronx. The location is great, the restaurant is bright, modern, and alive. I came on opening night and even though the place was packed, service NEVER faltered. Very impressive. A lot of firsts on this one...first time in the Bronx in years, first time in a legitimate client site visit (not part of my regular responsibilities) but most importantly my first time trying "tres golpes". For the uninitiated, like I once was, it is a classic meal consisting of eggs, salami and fried cheese. Campesino Dominicano didn't disappoint. It was fresh, not overly salted and the egg was cooked over medium just like I like it. To add on top of this, the recommended a home made ginger tea, which exactly what I needed because I was feeling a wee bit under the weather (man flu kicked in the next day so I got a 4 day weekend). I'd share a photo of my meal, but I never received it. I ordered from this restaurant, via Seamless, at around 8pm last night. According to Google maps, it is .8 miles away from my apartment. A few minutes later I get a call telling me they were out of what I ordered -No biggie, I pick something else and assume I'll see my food in 45 minutes or so. At the 1 hour & 5 minute mark I call them to inquire about my order. A lady answers the phone and tells me that the delivery person hasn't left yet because they have to charge their scooter (or some scooter like vehicle). I ask when the scooter will be done charging, and when I should expect my order. She says (in Spanish, this was all in Spanish, which luckily I speak fluently) "Hmmm, not sure, it might be charged in another 20 minutes or so." 40 minutes later my food still hasn't arrived and I call again. A different lady answers the phone and she says that she doesn't see the delivery person around so my order is "probably on the way". (Yes, she said "probably".) 25 minutes later, still no food, so I contact Seamless Customer Care and have them reach out. A Seamless rep speaks to someone at the restaurant named "Sandy", who says my order should reach me in about 10 minutes or so (it's now been 2 hours and 10 mins). I stupidly believe Seamless and this "Sandy" lady, and keep waiting. I also asked for at least a partial refund (they have a delivery fee), which Seamless agrees to. (50%) At the 3 hour and 15 minute mark I finally give up and reach out to Seamless again for a full refund, which they agree to with no hassle. I had a tough weekend and all I wanted was to chill at home Sunday night and eat some (allegedly) good Dominican food. Instead I got lied to twice (three times if you count when "Sandy" lied to Seamless), idiotically believed them, and missed out on being able to order from anywhere else as everything was closed by the time I gave up. Save yourself the trouble and don't even consider eating at or ordering from this place. read more

After 40 minutes the lady asked why am I there, I tell her we called and placed an order. I give her the name of the order and she tells me no order was placed and that it must be at the Washington Heights location. I call my colleagues and they speak with her, the lady says I gave the wrong name, I ask her what was the name and it was the name I said all this time lol (you can't make this up).
