    Chicken and Swiss cheese sandwich
    Ray M.

I love this spot. Open 24/7 you can always get your grub on. The food is delicious but I definitely go for their sandwiches. I get the Pechuga de pollo with Swiss cheese and it's so delicious ! The chicken is thinly sliced and the cheese is well melted and the bread is nice and crisply toasted.. All together it's just a flavorful plunge. I wash it down with a Morin Sanando (Orange juice with condensed milk) and my world is great again. Service is great. Very nice staff and as far as the atmosphere it's a Dominican restaurant.. You have some merengue, batchata or Salsa playing lightly in the background, people eating and conversing.. The restaurant staff communicating amongst themselves.. Its uptown! It's New York! It's a vibe! I love it! So if you're looking for some good Latin/Dominican food this is a great place and if you like a delicious sandwich this is definitely a spot to try! Have a great one yall! -Ray

Vegetarian Mofongo Magic I'm visiting NYC from the Bay Area and was on the hunt for some good Dominican food -- Floridita did not disappoint. I got the mofongo with cheese (vegetarian here ) and honestly, it was amazing. The mashed plantains were packed with flavor, crispy in all the right places, and that melty cheese in the middle? So good. It was rich, garlicky, and super satisfying -- total comfort food without needing any meat. We also ordered the maduros and they were perfect -- sweet, caramelized, and soft without being mushy. I could've eaten a whole plate of just those and left happy. The restaurant has this really warm, local vibe -- super friendly staff, no frills, just great food. Definitely one of those neighborhood gems you feel lucky to stumble into. If you're veggie and want to try some Dominican food that slaps, Floridita should be on your list. I'll be back for sure next time I'm in the city.

This spot is a bustling casual eatery, serving Latin cuisine. My friend and I stopped by here for dinner right before it got super packed. The menu was extensive, so it was tough to figure out what to order. I decided to go with the Steak Sandwich, and a few small bites: Shrimp patty, Yuca with ground beef, as well as Ham Croquette. I was disappointed by the Steak Sandwich. The description stated it came with crispy potatoes, so I was expecting actual potato pieces, but it was just potato stix chips. Also, the steak was kind of dry and bland. On top of that, there was not that much steak in the sandwich. The lettuce and tomatoes added a nice freshness though. Shrimp patty was pretty tasty. The outer shell was delightfully crispy and there was plenty of well seasoned, tender shrimp filling. I also enjoyed the Yuca with ground beef. The yuca was crunchy with the beef being succulent and flavorful. Ham croquette was small and not that great. Service was on the slow side. Prices are reasonable. I would be open to trying this place again and would like to get the Surf & Turf combination of skirt steak, shrimp, lobster or Rack of pork ribs with tostones.

Decent spot to grab a Cuban and some of other rice, beans, and meat dishes. The portion was pretty big so it was quite filling.

    Cubano Sandwich

tl;dr cafe by day and bar by night, this Washington Heights spot's well-regarded Cubano sandwiches are enjoyable but nothing mind-blowing The black-tiled exterior and tinted windows of this Washington Heights eatery blends into the many standalone businesses along the block. And their signature dish may be easy to miss on first glance through the extensive Dominican menu. Yet, those in the know are quick to recommend Floridita's Cubano sandwich, whether day or night. Walk in to a small deli counter right up front, filled sparsely with prepackaged pastries and sweets. A diner-style prep area runs along along the left wall, flanked by a line of barstool seats with green drop lighting beneath the counter. The opposite, faux exposed brick wall is sparsely decorated with televisions and occasional posters and flanked by mustard yellow half-booths. The remainder of the room is filled in with many dark, wooden tables. Funky incandescent bulbs drop from the high black ceilings, and vinyl-wood panels deck the floors. For the breakfast service, the room echoes with chatter from the small crowd of regulars, while staff relay orders and prep drinks. The lauded Cubano inspired my early morning visit. I walked in and ordered immediately, then grabbed a seat for around 10 minutes while awaiting my eats. A decently large portion of pickles, garlic, roast pork, and Swiss cheese were slapped together, and the entire sandwich was plancha-pressed until the roll became delectably crisp. The supporting staff were the all-stars of this sandwich. Tangy pickles mixed perfectly with a robust bite of garlic, rounded out by the flavorful crunch of the roll. However, these finishes don't make up for the unimpressive cuts of meat, which I found to be slightly dry without sauce and otherwise forgettable. At $8 (before tax and tip), the Cubano is mildly expensive and moderately satisfying. I wouldn't recommend anyone go out of their way to sample this sandwich, but I see Floridita as a reliable option for delivery or takeout while in the neighborhood.

Had heard great things about the cuban sandwiches from this spot so we decided to stop by. The music is very loud...a lot of screaming over the music. Placed order for sandwiches...took a long time to get sandwich...then a long time to pay for order... Sandwich itself was pretty good, good press on it so it was crunchy. There was a good cheese pull too. My only real issue is that they need to take it easy on the garlic...it was a bit overpowering.

Walked into Margon Restaurant in Midtown and instantly felt like I found one of NYC's secret cheat codes. Small space, big flavors, zero nonsense. The kind of place where you're elbow-to-elbow with strangers but everyone's united by one thing... serious hunger. Ordered the Cuban sandwich -- pressed, crispy, loaded with roast pork, glazed ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. One bite in and I stopped talking... which never happens. This thing didn't just deliver... it showed up early and over-prepared. Then came La Bandera Dominicana Braised beef swimming in savory gravy, yellow rice piled like a mountain, black beans doing their thing, and sweet maduros sitting on top like the victory flag. Simple. Comforting. Dangerous... because now I want it every week. Place gets busy, gets loud, gets chaotic... but it moves like a well-oiled machine. Years of experience and zero attitude. Just good people making great food. In a neighborhood full of tourist traps, this hole-in-the-wall is throwing haymakers. Sometimes the best escape in NYC isn't a rooftop... It's a Cuban sandwich and a plastic tray. And honestly... I'd pick that every time. #nycfood #hiddennyc #midtowneats

Everyone agreed with my suggestion to eat Latin American food and we made a reservation at Buena Vista, not far away from our hotel and also not far from the theater. We came over a bit early, around 5:15 and were immediately seated. We were immediately impressed by the business model. It is a melange of Latin American and Iberian faire with exquisite curation. Their cocktails were absolutely delightful, I had a Pantalones en Fuego, others had an exquisite margarita with passion fruit flavor and a Daiquirí de Fresa, just amazing. Then we ordered interminable Hors d'oeuvres. Their ham croquetas and mushroom croquetas were the rage, as well as the tostoncillos ibéricos and ceviche limeño, The main courses followed, a paella valenciana for two, the magret de pato, a delicious duck dish, and a grilled Argentine parrilla. Not bad for four people. Dessert included churros and tres leches. And of course, a bottle of a great Verdejo. Service was just flawless. We had several staff members all contributing to making our Father's Day evening special. All around us it was festive, with plenty of well dressed Spanish speakers in several tables, and the accents of a half a dozen Spanish speaking countries. Plenty of gringoes too. A beautiful collection of diversity. We left happy, ready to see "Oh Mary" and wanting to return

I had the steak (I prefer my steak more on the well side) and the chef managed to keep it positively tender and juicy. Perched on top of a few slices of fried casava slices and a small side salad. You can never leave without trying the flan it's one of the best I have ever had. Service was quick and food was bought to us piping hot. The only down side is they oddly don't make pina coladas (it's the only thing I drink) and the restaurant was a bit too cold but other than that it was a lovely birthday dinner for my friend. Buena Vista is small and popular so I strongly suggest you make reservations if you plan on eating here.

Here you can find great food at a great value in NYC. I walked in and looked over what they had left about an hour before closing and tried their pork chops in red sauce for the first time. I usually get the pork chops with onions and peppers, but I'm glad I had these pork chops in the red tomato based sauce over yellow rice and black beans, with mixed vegetables. Twenty bucks gets you all this in a twin pork chop meal and a bottle of water. Ask for some of the red sauce gravy poured over the chops and rice. The pork chops; though sitting in that red sauce, still have caramelized edges offering that texture your palate will enjoy along with that savory red sauce. The sauce is so good and has a touch of tanginess and bouquet that enhances the whole experience. I even got another pork chop on top, given it was so good. The rice is cooked properly and only the mixed vegetables, particularly the zucchini, at the end of the day were slightly overdone; though, the broccoli was still just right. The black beans were perfect. All the Sophie's are clean from my experience; though, I have never been in their restrooms. You can dine here with confidence and the people working at this Sophie's were very nice and welcoming.
