We just relocated here from Fort Lauderdale and one of my pups developed a little stomach bug. Of course it happen late Friday and rolled into Saturday. We called Caring Hands at 8 when they opened and they were able to schedule us in as new patients for an 11am visit. Front desk staff was friendly and welcoming. Samantha our vet tech was very knowledgeable and friendly. She did the initial exam and Dr. Emond came in shortly after. Dr. Emond was very good at listening to our pups past medical issues and what courses of treatment had worked before. She never tried to push any unnecessary tests or imaging. You can tell she loves her career and cares about her patients and their owners. My step father has practiced veterinary medicine for over 30 years. I've heard and seen so many horror stories of clinics driving up bills because at the end of the day it's a business, but NOT here the prices and options for treatment were explained before hand and very reasonable. This location is amazing with getting pets in for visits; we enjoyed Caring Hands Alexandria and Arlington too, but visit this location because we have had the best luck with getting timely appointments, and because of Dr. Thornton. All doctors we have seen at this location are wonderful, but Dr. Thornton deserves a special shout out. She is so amazing, treats our boxer pup like her own, and she is extremely trustworthy, diligent in her exams, and kind. My boxer looks forward to seeing her at her check ups, and so do we! Our first visit to Caring Hands Clarendon was completely random. They had just opened and we were passing by. Earlier that evening, I noticed a bump on our young BMD's leg and since Caring Hands was open late (new dog owners take note of hours), we just walked in. A tech behind the counter asked how he could help which alone was refreshing. Within seconds, the tech was on his knees making friendly with our Winston and removed a tick. He did this without asking for name, appointment or payment. While this was happening, I had a minute to look around. The place smelled great. It was very clean, and the open floor plan made this human feel comfortable. We switched vets. Fast forward past vaccinations, small ailments, false alarms, more TPLO operations than legs (performed by South Paws), TPLO complications... and sadly, we needed to schedule our final visit. Throughout our time with Caring Hands, we had one vet, Dr. Campfield. Like the tech we met on the first day, she spent most of our visits at our dog's level. She always took her time diagnosing issues and always talked through her thought process. This too was refreshing. Anyone who has cared for a dog understands there is certainty and uncertainty when working with a patient who does not verbally communicate. She always focused her care on Winston while bringing us along on what she learned. When she saw our appointment, she called. Our Winston was my personal wing dog for over 8 years. He slept with us; joined us on vacations; joined me reading the paper on our porch; joined us on Saturday walks to the Farmer's Market; got out of his mind excited once he heard me wrapping up my work day; loved seeing his friends on his walks; led house security; and would climb in hour lap if you swore to calm you down. He was at the center of our lives. When he could no longer get up or walk on his own, we had to do what all pet owners dread. Talking with Dr. Campfield, she first asked questions and expressed sympathy in a sincere way you can only do after establishing a strong relationship. She reviewed the process and gave me every chance to ask questions and work through our thought process coming to this point. The process itself is heart breaking, but having my wing dog in my lap was the comfort I owed him for his years of comforting me. Having a pet can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Having a solid partner for the journey helps when navigating turns and dips. Dr. Campfield and Caring Hands Clarendon provided great service for mundane visits, urgent visits and that final visit. The absolute best vet in the area! I left another vet in the area due to overall poor service and tried this place instead. I am amazed at how incredible the team here is, and their policies! They are extremely forgiving about late arrivals, which I rarely do, but it's nice to know you won't be turned away if you're a few minutes late. Additionally, all of the vets and the techs are so kind, caring, and knowledgeable. My French bulldog is scared of vet offices and they always do their best to make sure he feels as comfortable as he can. They have helped my dog with any issues he had, and even spotted issues that were overlooked or ignored at my prior vet. Finding a new vet who you can trust is always such a difficult thing to do. After a lot of research we decided to try and establish care for our 2 cats at this location. I am so happy we found this place! Their customer service is excellent and everyone treated my terrified cats so well. So far we have gone there 3 times, twice for regular check ups and once for an actual issue and we have been beyond satisfied every time. They tend to get booked fast on weekends, but I have been able to get same day appointments during the week. Usually with an appointment the wait time is 5-10 minutes max. We all know vets can get pretty expensive and one of the things I value most about this place is that they didn't try to upsell me at all. They informed about every little thing they did and gave me choices every time. The front desk also recommended options for pet insurance for us as one of our cats is getting older. Just wanted to share the great experience with Caring Hands Animal Hospital. We adopted 2 little kittens Obi and Stella (9 weeks old) 3 weeks ago and they were been having terrible diarrhea with blood in our first week. I called Caring Hands on Sunday at 9 a.m and they gave me an appointment at 11:30. They clearly explained the process with all Covid 19 protocol and did not hesitate to provide fee estimates for the services (very reasonable) Danielle who made my appointment was very kind and made me feel at ease and supported. Dr. Warner who examined my kittens was WONDERFUL!!! She diagnosed and gave the kittens' meds along with lab work. She also apprised us that our girl kitten was having a bit of wheezing and this could have been as a result of a previous unresolved upper respiratory issue. Dr. Warner was very kind, patient and took the time to listen, answer and explain all my questions/concerns. Her bedside manner was impeccable. She told me that there are more kittens going through this same illness and advice on how to take care of them at home. The kittens are now back to their normal rambunctious and playful selves! Thank you so much to Dr. Warner, Danielle and the Caring Hand Staff for taking such great care of our kittens. We will see you in a week for their boosters and check on our girl's wheezing. I've been in the DMV since 2013 with my dog, Chloe. She's now almost 13 and this has been by far the best veterinary practice I've found in the area. We were actually going to another Caring Hands but when a medical emergency came up - only the Clarendon office had a slot for Chloe - and I'm so happy it worked out that way! Dr. Thornton is excellent - I feel like I can ask her all the questions I need to and I never feel rushed here. I've never had an excessive wait or had any issues getting my dog the care she needs. As you probably know, during these odd COVID-19 times, protocols have changed, understandably. I took Chloe for her annual and I had to wait in the car. After her exam - Dr. Thornton called me and calmly reviewed how the exam went and gave me a chance to discuss any additional concerns. I was very nervous that my elderly rescue pup would have a heart attack in there but they assured me she did great! Thanks again, Caring Hands, for taking such good care of my pup! read more

This place microchipped my cats a year ago and gave me forms to fill out so they could register the microchips. I recently checked and the numbers aren't registered at all. When i called them they informed me that they don't register microchips anymore. I have never received such appalling treatment as I did this past week by caring hands. I have been a customer for 4+ years and spent thousands of dollars here and they would not give me a disposable mask as I forgot them even though when I called they told me they would give me a mask. It was 100+ degrees out and they laughed at me as they forced me to stand outside in the heat for 45 minutes. I don't know why caring hands thinks this is an acceptable way to treat a customer paying $200 plus for a vet visit but they clearly do not care about customer retention. My dog Stella and i came to caring hands after having multiple bad experiences at banfield pet hospital. Our first visit was yesterday and it was so much better than I even expected. The vet and the technician SAT ON THE FLOOR with my puppy to help her feel more comfortable. I mean, wow. They played with her, did not rush through our appointment, and answered all of my questions throughly and politely. Stella was not scared and warmed up to them quicker than she does with most. The facility was clean and they took covid seriously while still providing excellent care and communication. Everyone i encountered was incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it's a little bit expensive i have yet to find a veterinarian that isn't. I would 100% recommend caring hands. read more

We've been taking our dog to Caring Hands Clarendon for a few years now, and overall I'm really happy with the experience. In the last year or so, Dr. Munzing has done a really top notch job guiding us and our dog through a complicated set of issues (a torn ACL and a chronic disease that takes a lot of fine tuning to get under control). He is doing so much better because of her care! She is really willing to listen to us and answer questions, and I have felt like the whole practice takes a judicious and thoughtful approach to vet care. We are impressed enough that we keep going back to CH Clarendon even though we now live 40 minutes away. I've found scheduling to be pretty easy and the front desk staff is usually helpful. Sometimes you have to take the initiative to follow up on things, but that's a pretty small quibble. We had a vet at CH a year or two ago that we found it really hard to communicate with, and I think our dog's care suffered, but that person is no longer with the practice. Otherwise, our interactions with Dr. Campfield and Dr. Thornton have also been great! read more

We used to visit the Caring Hands on Glebe, and liked that one a lot. However, we just started visiting this recently opened one in Clarendon, and they are upholding the same high quality of customer service as we experienced at the Glebe location. Being a new location, it isn't super busy, so getting a last minute appointment was not too troublesome. They are also open late which really works well for us. I think I came by at 7pm and they still have more available slots after that! Our visit went great with the vet, and our bill was carefully explained by the admin assistant. We are so grateful for everyone at Caring Hands. Throughout our dog's surgery process, we felt so supported by the staff and the doctors, from Dr. Campfield, Dr. Hamilton, Dr. Lazar to Kaira, Kayla, Nicole, Michael, Lauren, and beyond. It really took a village, especially because our dog Milo has such a dognality, with so many opinions! We can hardly believe that he is now well on the mend, with his stitches out and everything. He just got a bath at home after two weeks in the cone of shame while recovering from the surgery and, now, couldn't be happier. We are beyond relieved. We are so thankful to have found you all. Previously, we had been at Petsmart and Milo did not experience such individualized and caring attention as he does here at Caring Hands; he would be caged for hours while waiting his turn and, by the end of the day, he would be dejected and downtrodden. In contrast, at Caring Hands, we see him gallop straight on into the hospital, without any fear, and emerge with his tail wagging whenever we pick him up. We also feel thankful for the informative phone consultations/debriefs and the amazing email communication with the staff. Thank you so much for your professionalism and expertise with our fur baby Milo! How have I not reviewed this place yet... my ex and I take all of our pets here. They are amazing. Campfield, Thornton, Bush, Newman... There are so many reasons why we trust these vets. First off, you cannot beat that you are able to see all their facilities. It is not the same as other vets where they take them back. They actually invite you to be part of the care of your pet in the same way a doctor would have you present for the care of your child. We LOVE that. Also about 2 years ago one of our kitties was not doing well. She already had seizures, IBS, and a host of other ailments. Another vet clinic elsewhere had told us to spend a week or two with her and then plan to put her to sleep as her end was growing near. Luckily we got a second opinion from CH. Our cat is now happy, feisty, and you wouldn't know a thing was wrong with her. She just needed the right medications. She is no longer able to go to the vet because traveling makes her a little uncontrollable , but Dr Thornton has offered to come treat her in my exes house. Dr. Thornton also sees our two iggies. She so gentle and kind. Recently our older Iggy needed medication for a disc issue in her back. And we were able to go in once and then easily get the vet to refill her meds without overcharging us and making us come in for another exam which would have been unnecessary. We also experienced Dr Newman who I believe is one of the owners, early on when we began coming her because one of our IGs started having seizures. Again so kind and caring and very conservative, which we like. We saw Dr Campfield for a few skin issues and she even saw us again as a follow up a week later for free. We don't feel this place tries to upsell us on procedures which is really nice. We feel like we can trust them to be honest and that's rare. We know this is a business but we appreciate their honesty and that they genuinely seem to care. I hope that doesn't change as they become more popular because it is what keeps us coming back. And finally tonight I was impressed and so thankful yet again... reminding me that I really need to finish this review. I called in to speak with a vet because I am trying to bring a rescue over from the Middle East, where vet cat is minimal and we have gotten a poor prognosis. And vet again the vet tonight Dr Bush offered to look at the blood work for us and offer a recommendation given that the cat is still waiting to come over. This was so kind of her. She didn't have to offer this but again, all the vets here really seem to care. We are so appreciative of these amazing humans. Being a new dog mom I was SO nervous about establishing myself at a vet and just found myself very overwhelmed with the whole process of making sure my puppy was healthy and vaccinated. After talking to a few friends I decided to book my first appointment there with my puppy, Bella. From my first phone call to make the appointment I knew I made the right choice. The staff is SO friendly and accommodating. Every single person that works there is so sweet and really loved my Bella. She made instant friends with all of the front desk ladies. The first appointment consisted of the Dr. very patiently answering all of my questions that I had written out, yes, written out. She explained everything I needed to know and sent me home with a folder with papers discussing everything we talked about. I never felt overwhelmed or rushed at all. We had such a positive experience with this Caring Hands location. Our dog, Oliver normally goes to the Caring Hands on Van Dorn, however, we won't be taking him back there ever again, as received better care for him here. The Alexandria location lacked customer service to accept our dog back for a courtesy appointment, seeing as his condition got worse, and was in a lot of pain. We contacted this location and Matt just went about and beyond the call of duty. Not only did he make accommodations for Oliver to be seen in a span of 30 minutes, he did it so kindly as he understood the urgency. He was waiting for us to arrive and was very welcoming. If it weren't for him, we simply would not have been seen tonight and to say we are grateful is an understatement. Dr. Gardiner was also very pleasant and kind during Oliver's visit. She is very thorough, relays information well, and is very honest, which is a rarity in this sector. We now have a better idea as to what direction we're heading in with Oliver, and that puts us at such ease. We will for sure make this Caring Hands our vet for Oliver. We love caring hands. They treated my pug very well at the end of his life. They are a bit pricy especially with a puppy. We had to pay for a physical with each round of shots and I haven't ever had to do that anywhere else so it added up really fast. All the staff were great that I spoke to and very helpful! The doctor made me feel comfortable with everything while I wasn't able to be inside with Max for the exam. Caring hands is hands-down THE BEST. They've been caring for my 12-year-old dog since he was a puppy and we get excellent care. I can say first-hand that Caring Hands doesn't opt for the most expensive option or put your beloved pet through a bunch of unnecessary tests. When he was a puppy with a stomach virus, another vet put him through almost $1000 worth of tests before telling us, it would pass on its own. Later I found out that vet worked off of commission. That was the last time we went there and after being referred by a friend, we were so grateful to find a practice like Caring Hands! We've used 4 of their locations over the years and were so happy when they opened the close-by Clarendon location and even happier as we've gotten to know the staff there. They are amazing caregivers. With my senior dog, we tried every possible treatment before resorting to surgery. On the day of surgery, Caring Hands was fantastic. They showed me where my dog would be through every step of the process and it made me feel very comfortable. On normal visits, the vet and the technicians will get on the floor with your pet to make them feel at ease. Recently, my dog was attacked by a vicious neighborhood dog. Caring Hands took us in immediately, performed the emergency surgery, put us at ease, and when they sent him home, they actually put a heart decal on his bandages. I know that didn't have any health benefit, but it made us feel like they really do care about my pet as much as we do. After every visit, even routine visits, Caring Hands is great about following up to make sure that you don't have any questions or have experienced any difficulties. When we called after my dog's incision became infected, instead of making us come in unnecessarily, they had us send a picture of what we were seeing. They deemed that we should bring my dog in and then stayed late, at no extra charge, so that we could get him started on a new antibiotic pronto. When I moved to Arlington from DC for a few months, I wanted to find a vet close by. I heard great things about Caring Hands through the rescue I work with, and thought I'd give it a try. From the immaculate and spacious waiting room to the minimal waiting times, the friendly front-desk staff and the easy reservation system, it was a wonderful experience. My pup and I have since been back 3 times and I am thrilled to know that she is in such wholly competent, and yes, "caring" hands. I've seen a couple different vets there and they've all been above and beyond--brilliant and affectionate with my girl. The vet techs have all been lovely, too. As with every vet, you need to be sure to ask about charges upfront. They didn't tell me about the general exam charge when I was bringing my pup in for a specific issue, but I brought this to their attention and they resolved the issue wonderfully. Amazing customer service. Even after I move back into downtown DC, I will keep bringing my pup here. She loves it, I love it, and it couldn't be a more stress-free spot. read more

I am forever grateful to Dr. Campfield and Dr. Thornton who were so compassionate and caring when it came to providing my dear Finn with his elder and ultimately end of life care. It was SO hard to say goodbye to Finn, and I truly felt that the staff at Caring Hands felt the loss, too. They were amazingly kind, and understanding and my family had a wonderfully comfortable place to say goodbye to Finn. Since, we've brought a new pup into our life and when we first brought her in, it felt like a celebration! Dr. Campfield explained the spaying procedure, and puppy care and I'm happy to say that our pup just had her 1 year check up and she is happy and healthy! Who would drive 30 miles in NOVA traffic so their dog can have a mere checkup? Turns out... me. I am normally not that person, but to have a checkup by Dr. Campfield... pack up the dog and the baby, we're taking a road trip. I truly can't say enough about her. She's SO knowledgeable, funny, honest, and she cares: both about my dogs and about my pocketbook. I can attest to her knowledge because she's cared for three of our boxers, and their issues run the gamut: skin, heart, teeth, cancer, seizures, arthritis- you name it.
