Understand that my mother was brought to the home and immediately put into hospice care through Ace Hospice. The hospice nurses were over the top wonderful. When you are in a rush trying to find a board and care home for a loved one whose days are numbered, you tend to sign things without really reading them thoroughly. They have a clause in their contract that states that there will be no refund for monthly rent. Meaning if you pay a new months rent and your loved one passes away the next day, you forfeit all of the rest of the months rent. My mother passed away 7 days into the new month. I expected to get back a pro-rated months rent. That's when they bring up the clause in the contract and keep your money. If you decide to move your loved one here, be aware of the contract that you are signing and read and understand everything. I figure they took over $4000 of my mother's money.

They offered to provide a full no-commitment assessment, and I accepted. The next day, Mr. Keith Beck, Executive Director, came to my home and evaluated Mom's situation and needs. Mr. Beck was on-time, professional, organized and efficient. Following the assessment, we were introduced to a recommended caregiver who, assuming my approval, would be responsible for Mom. She was professional, very conversational with Mom and an experienced caregiver. By the end of the appointments, I was confident that Mom would have good, comforting care while I was gone. I was extremely impressed that Visiting Angels responded so quickly, and was also able to provide and dedicate quality staff in a timely manner. I continued the caregiving services on a part-time basis after I returned home as Mom was still not quite stable. Another caregiver was introduced and assigned. After a couple of weeks of continued part-time care, Mom became much better and I was comfortable with stopping the services. I highly recommend Visiting Angels of Livermore. All of my experiences (and my Mom's) were positive. It is a very well managed business with a reliable, kind, and supportive team: owner, office staff, and caregivers. Crucially, delivered an unsafe, bed with 40-year-old design bed with malfunctioning manual rails, leading to a patient fall and injury. Medications (Grade C): Late-night deliveries (after 8 PM) and inadequate supply for basic needs like constipation. Personal Care (Grade C): Aide was inflexible regarding scope of care, refusing basic help with a meal despite the patient's physical weakness. Emotional and Spiritual Support Counseling (Grade F): Minimal contact and zero emotional support. The social worker was dismissive, suggested the patient use briefs instead of the bathroom for caregiver convenience, and eventually stopped visits entirely, citing the VA as a reason to disengage. This changed thanks to the splendid adult daycare provided by the Bedford Center, where she has been going for the last two years. My mother enjoys riding the bus that takes her there, loves being with other senior citizens, the activities that take place in the Center, and is always saying how good the staff is to her. I must also point out that the advice that the nurse and the dietitian have given us has been invaluable. Thanks to the Bedford Center, my mother now has a schedule and something to look forward to five days per week. Although she requires a great deal of maintenance, they have taken excellent care of her. They have improved my mother's quality of life considerably, and the chances are that, if it were not for them, she would now be living in a nursing home. In a nutshell, there is no question that the Bedford Center constitutes an important asset to the city of Antioch.
