Jury still out. problem with the industry is the turn overs. You cannot depend on one caregiver to be the one for more than a week. Then the errors on the company side are them sending people that are not qualified for the job and do not even meet the expectations of the contract you signed for. Those are managerial issues, not the faults of the caregivers. Problem is, the turn overs, companies do not see these caregivers for long. This is not a career but an entry level job for most of them. This is an industry problem though. And if you are paying for a service rather than hiring your own, you are paying for their payroll, staffing, bonding and insurance. read more

i was very pleased when i first started. after that not so. i was quoted an initial feea and required amt of time required and then both were changed to more money and more time! also, caregivers showed up at least 3 times when not scheduled, one at 9 pm when i was sound asleep. quite alarming! This is a long overdue review. In search of in home care for one of my parents, I attempted to work with several in home care agencies and one assisted care facilities over the last year To my horror, most caregivers could not follow through on care basics, one went so as to not serve my parent meals or liquids for an entire day. This said, I obviously had no hope in finding anyone through an agency so attempted to hire an "independent contractor" who offered to work for $60/hour. (!) Then came Hillendale, a John Muir Hospital recommendation. Tova, the case manager I worked with, went straight to work. She assessed my parent's needs in person, talked me through a detailed care plan and created a schedule of care immediately. Tova was available 24/7 for that first week and I can't tell you how incredibly grateful I am for her availability and professionalism. (Most agencies I worked with had no one to speak to on the weekends much less after 5 pm) Tova worked diligently to find the absolute best fit for my parent's care. I have worked with quite a few caregiver agencies over a number of years. Hillendale is the best. We have a team of 4 working 12 hour shifts. They work very well together and provide excellent care for my dad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They never leave us hanging if a caregiver is sick or on vacation and they always find an appropriate replacement who can fill in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My dad's case is quite complicated and they train the replacement and I meet her and help also to make sure she is a good fit. Everyone on their team works well together, helps each other, and is consistent with my dad's care. My mother recently had a terrible hospitalization and recovery and needed assistance upon returning home. Hillendale has always provided good competent carers and have been flexible with their hours. When we began using their services, we did not need a care person for more than an hour several days a week. As time has passed we have been able to add additional hours as needed. Hillendale took over $1800 directly out of my bank account but didn't provide the service! They sent completely incompetent women and then they quit, keeping my money! I sent each unacceptable caregiver home but was billed twelve hours for each! Hillendale refuses to refund my money!! read more

They over promised & under delivered. The videos on the website are enticing, but the promises were not kept. The main caregiver assigned to take care of my mom was substandard. On a scale of 1-10 she gets a 3 (and I'm being generous). She did the bare minimum. There seems to be a system problem. Voice & email messages go unchecked and unreturned They tell you these problems are due to being understaffed. One of the promises made was they would be able to cover shifts with a call-out. They failed miserably on this. Overall this service is not a good value for the rates being charged. read more

Hillendale has potential but lacks organization and consistency. Your experience for your loved one can vary from one caretaker to the next, as each visit will be a new person. They have internal "notes/folder" for your loved one, but you'll find yourself explaining each and every time what's needed. Sometimes you call and get an answer, other times you're led to a voicemail or "we'll follow up with you." There have been some recent policy changes with rate increases $$ and hours minimum, which has deterred us from using their services. The potential is there, but a lot more needs to be refined before they can earn our business back. read more

First off I'd like to say how much Ann (RN Instructor) has been a blessing in my life. She's the reason for this 3 year update! I am originally from the Los Angeles area, my purpose for moving temporarily was to find a good credible program (Hillendale Home Care) to take while in the Bay Area and return to LA with a new career. Fast forward to today I work for a big hospital in LA/ Hollywood area and get paid a lot more than what I started with. I began my CNA career at a long term/ Rehabilitation Center in Pasadena. This program by far was one of the best in the Bay Area! I was very worried about the skills side of the test but under Ann's wing I passed the first time taking the exam. They were up for the task, from speaking with the owner, who organized a meeting and explanation of care in our home to the wonderful and caring staff who cared for my wife until her passing. The 7 week CNA program was fast-paced but engaging. I learned a lot from the two wonderful instructors, Ann and Kay, who consistently kept me on my toes with material while genuinely caring about their students' progress. Despite the circumstances of COVID, the program did a great job of giving us what we need to know to excel as a nursing assistant while giving us a chance to apply our skills as practically as possible. I highly recommend Hillendale Home Care services! We moved my 89 year old father from assisted living in Oregon to a local senior center. He was in good physical health but had dementia. In Oregon, he was still able to attend dances at the senior center twice a week with limited help from senior transportation. His condition upon moving prevented him from his favorite activity of dancing due to the limited time constraints of the family. We could transport and supervise him only about once a week. My single father loves to dance--and loves the ladies! My sister learned of the excellent services that Hillendale could provide for my father. They took him to the dances twice a week, stayed with him, danced right along with him, and even took him to lunch afterwards! Over the past two years, they provided him with very caring and skilled aides that brought him much happiness and pleasure, at a very reasonable cost. Hillendale was recommended to me by a trusted health care advisor when my Mother was about to be released from a skilled nursing facility in Walnut Creek. My Mother had suffered a shattered elbow and fractured pelvis and I needed help so I called Hillendale to arrange for some in home care. At the time I met with Bridget Waller I realized I need 24/7 care for my Mother which I could not provide in her home. Bridget very kindly used her professional expertise to help me negotiate issues at the skilled nursing care facility where my Mother was placed even though she knew that I would not be using her services at that time. She was professional and compassionate. I would not hesitate to call Hillendale should I need in home care in future and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking the services provided by Bridget and Hillendale.
