Nice park, love the duck pond and the playground for kids. Nice & big area to walk around. But definitely needs more benches.

Great place to jog/walk with numerous dirt trails, awesome updated playground w wood chips and a foam hill to climb over. There's often people playing baseball. I think there's 2 parking lots in opposite ends. Some big trees in some areas but probably still a bit hot on a sunny warm day.

Great park, son loves it there but can someone at least clean the pond or check up on the sea animals in that pond?

Great hidden gem of a park. Wide open trails with large trees and fields. Best part is the fishing. It took a while of searching for them fishies, but once I found a hot spot, I snagged 2 in a row before calling it quits.

There can be magic made anywhere, I suppose. Carl Thorton Park is dog friendly, so we ended up there one day for a short walk. The photos had me thinking that this place was a bit more of a natural space than it really is. This park is a combination of picnic place, playgrounds, sports complex, and man-made duck pond with a creek. It is the latter that saved the day for us. Our dogs had a great time here. Playing in the creek on a hot day was fun for them. If you have a kid in a stroller and a dog, you can get them both out in the sunshine here. If you want a bit more nature, then you may have to go further afield.

Very open park, slightly limited parking on both sides of the park. There is a walking/running trail that guides through a majority of the park, every time I go here people are using the dirt trails to exercise. As for the greenery there are open areas for sports activities in the grass and the foliage of the trees provide plenty of shade and places to set up a small picnic. Carl Thorton Park has many attractions, recreational, physical and even trivial. There is a playground next to the lake/pond and there appears to be a man-made river that is connected to the lake. It's a little easily to tell how fake the structure of the river is but it's very gorgeous and a nice addition. Attached to the park itself is another smaller park that houses a larger playground, several benches as well as two fire pits. Appears to be extremely family friendly.

Ask the Community - Carl Thornton Park

Do they allow fishing? I've seen a lot of people fish. But I want to make sure it's allowed before I decided to do it myself. I didn't see any sign mentioning it. It also doesn't say on their website. So I figured I'd ask here. :)

Does anyone know what happened to the male and female Chinese Geese? We really loved seeing them and they have been gone for a couple weeks. Asking for a friend!

I just walked the loop tonight-- twice. I walked past the pond and heard a bunch of waterfowl. It was too dark to see them clearly, but they sounded like geese, lots of geese. I recorded a video of the birds. You can't see them clearly in the video,… Read more

Hands down one of the cleanest, most convenient parks in the Irvine area!…read more There are several baseball fields, tons of gated tennis courts, playgrounds for the kids, countless picnic areas that are numbered for parties and gatherings. I think what makes this park stand out is the crowd. Any park can be beautiful but, without the proper maintenance from the park crew (and most importantly the park goers) it doesn't stand a chance. You see tons of regulars here with their dogs, families, kids. Everyone is friendly and respectful of one another. The dog crowd at this park is also one of the best I've seen. Although the park is not off leash, there's wide open areas for you to allow your fur family to play catch, run around, and have a bit of freedom! They do have a couple of posts that have doggie bags however, they run out quick so please do come prepared with your own poop bags just in case! There are plenty of water fountains throughout with water filling stations attached, so don't forget a bowl for your fur family!!

There were quite a few cars in the lot already. However, we didn't see a lot of people milling around as the park covers quite an extensive area. The park features a flower garden with a fountain near its center. Beyond that are several picnic shelters amidst an elaborate children's playground. Further on, there is a large expanse of grass area amidst soccer fields, base ball diamond and tennis courts. There are paved walk paths through out the complex that winds up and down the various terrains. Overall it's a nice place to enjoy a leisure walk!

Both offer goof parking availability, both are well placed for long distance running, with paths consistent of dirt trails of pavement and concrete, with a few obstacles, all of which are easy to moderate. It seems like a good place for walkers, joggers runners and for bikers . The paths at hart park starts by the old buildings of the swimming pool area. Crossing towards the west, you'll come across a few highway overpasses and an archery park, and a open air auditorium . Along the way, a dry water shed that connects to Santiago park, which has been in redevelopment . New trails, new kids park, new arbory and cleaned up trails.
