The fish market smells clean and looks clean which it's a plus. I called the fish market two hours before arrival, to place a order for 2 dozen of blue crabs cleaned. Then about 15 mins later, I called again and changed my order to 3 dozens of blue crabs cleaned. I showed up, the person I saw he said did you say you want 3 crabs or 3 dozens? I said 3 dozens. He said ok I only have 3 crabs and he went in the back to get 3 dozens. I was thankful he had more in the back. He gave me few extra crabs due to some crabs were missing claws. Which it was very nice of him. After I paid, he hands me back $6 and I didn't see it then. As I went to do more shopping and I counted the money. I noticed the $6 he hands me. The dollar bill is ripped and missing pieces. I never went back to ask for new dollar but next time if I go back, I will make sure there's no ripped money. Not even gonna joke about this place, it has hands down the freshest seafood on the island. I go there 2 times a week for salmon or shrimp or cod or whatever.. The prices are excellent too recently I paid 21.99 a pound for wild Atlantic salmon. The place smells like a fish market but if you take your fish home and rinse it and smell it I guarantee it will not smell fishy, that's the mark of fresh seafood Also it's a local small business that always has the popular and seasonal stuff in stock. I'm sorry the guy who posted about Christmas's eve had a bad experience but maybe it was because the line was 1/4 mile long, go back lol. I've been coming for their fresh fish weekly since I moved to Staten Island three years ago. The price may be higher than a supermarket, but you cannot beat the freshness and selection. So far we have tried scallops, salmon, cod, sole, mackerel and tilapia and liked all. I especially love their wild salmon which became a staple in our diet and my husband loves the grey sole. The fish is so good both our cat and dog like tasting it as well. The only downside is that I used to order fish when out for a dinner, but the fish never tastes as good as it does from this shop, especially the wild salmon, so for a person who doesn't like meat, my choices are now very limited. A small business treasure on Richmond Avenue (operated by the Kim family), they carry a decent selection of fish that is the freshest on Staten Island. David Kim is very knowledgeable about his stock, will offer advice on how to cook them, and will clean and/or trim your items as requested. I travel from the North Shore to shop here (round-trip via car of almost an hour), but it is definitely worth it. My normal Friday routine - park across the street in the BOA lot and do any necessary financial transactions - cross-the street to shop in Carlos - then walk up 2 blocks to Pastosa Market for their selections of pasta / breads / sauces - finally an iced coffee purchased in Dunkin' Donuts for the ride home. read more
