Not only do I recommend this place, I highly recommend La Bella Marketplace! They have THE best assortment of Italian foods from cold cuts to cookies; from ready to eat meals to heavenly breads! If you haven't tried prosciutto bread, you must try theirs. It is chock full of prosciutto. Mmmmm! They have a mortadella section behind their cold cut counter!! WHAT?!! They have pizza to go which is amazing. Do you like fresh pasta? Well you're at the right place. Almost forgot my absolute favorite: stuffed artichoke. OMG! It's worth going just for that. The olives are special. Not sure why or how but they are. A bakery to die for or a huge assortment of imported boxed cookies or candies. Omg, I didn't know I made a review about this place. I'm here today to say the same thing. I try to avoid this grocery store. I buy as little as possible, bell and Evan's chicken and grated cheese maybe rice or what's on sale but thats it. There is ALWAYS A problem with their sale items. They have to run back there to check if it's on sale. They constantly lie and say it's not or move the sticker not to give the sale to you. It happened the past 3 times I've been there. Half the items don't have prices. The only good thing it's neat. Prob because they aren't as busy as a store should be. Staff is rude and not as pleasant as they should be. I called to talk with a manager since I didn't get a sale price which was clearly listed. I got "Charley " on the fone the rudest A hole. Listen I can't help u.. My girls are good they just won't make a mistake. Like I was Lying. Like I had nothing better to do. My thoughts on this place avoid at all costs unless u really need something.. Was always happy with the products I bought at LaBella until today. Brought home a pound and a half of Red Snapper and was extremely dissatisfied. When we opened the bag we smelled a strong fish odor which isn't not good. After cooking the fish it had a really bad putrid taste. Obviously not a fresh fish . Ended up throwing it all away which never happens in my house as we are all good eaters. Too bad I was always happy with the fish I bought there before. read more

I'm really starting to like La Bella's! Yes there are tons of Italian specialty stores on Staten Island but what sets this place apart is its size. They stock a wide selection of Italian goods both imported and domestic as well as a full line of groceries you'd find in a regular grocery store. Recently I've been coming here for cheese and haven't had any issues with freshness. Their mozzarella is top notch and is always on hand whenever I go. The selection of their cheese department is unmatched on Staten Island. Another gem here is their bakery department. Although small they have pretty much everything you'd expect to find in a local Italian bakery. Their seven layer slice and mini cannoli were flavorful and totally worth the impulse buy. Bought a panettone for a special milestone birthday and I was so mortified as I presented it to the 90th birthday girl as the item was expired! When I contacted management, they said that they're allowed to sell expired items up to 6 months after the item has expired. No law in NY states that. Ive been coming to this place since it first opened. There are definitely pros and cons that you must keep in mind if you plan on shopping here. Pros: largest selection of specialty items on the island, hands down. Cons: A lot of items are usually expired or passed freshness date. Strong smell of sewage or rot when you walk through the store. Prepared foods look a little dead sometimes. Grocery items are expired at times with dates rubbed off. Deli workers don't always practice safe handling measures using same gloves to touch non food items over and over. Ive purchased a few questionable items over the years but the most recent was a cake from their bakery section. It looked fresh but once home and cut opened it tasted sour! Be warned! read more

No matter how many times we go to NY, we ALWAYS make time to specially hit up LaBella. This is an amazing Italian restaurant with so many of the products otherwise only available in Italy . The sites and smells:YUM! The pastry case is jammed full of tradition cannoli, lobster tails, napoleons, pignoli cookies, etc. etc.! The only sadness that I have for this place is that they don't ship. Bought chicken breast's in La Bella grocery store on 13th avenue on Wednesday, the sell by date showed 6/2. Transported it in a cooler back to Jersey and put in fridge. Took out Saturday to cook and the smell was horrible. I called them up and spoke to the weekend manager and was told they won't take them back because they have a 24 hour return policy. Called and spoke to his manager today and said that is their policy. He said I should have used it when I bought it. I told him he shouldn't put a use by date on it. I am now out 13.00 and they are out a long time customer. read more

Very generous helping of good quality meats for a low price. We ordered the Italian Coldcut classic from the deli counter. They use the rolls from the bakery which are too crusty. The meat portion was insanely generous. I've never seen a sub with that much freshly sliced meats. However, the flavor profile was poor. The sandwich was heavily dominated by the salty meats and didn't pack enough savouriness. Along with the vinegar and long peppers, the sandwich was dominated by salty and acidic flavors. I would have loved to had the sandwich balanced out with some fattier meats and maybe a sauce that had more savouriness. I really wanted to enjoy this sub because it was a great deal for its size. But, alas, it really wasn't anything special because of the poorly designed flavor profile. read more

I had extremely high expectations of a grandeur market filled with Italian specialities that would knock my lil' socks off. Unfortunately it was a dolled up Foodtown. Nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't call it gourmet although they did have some Italian goods you wouldn't find at your normal grocery. Their bakery and their deli were what was most disappointing. I was looking for cheese & meat plates that go on for days. They had hormel and expensive catering (which they wouldn't do for me at 6PM). The bakery wasn't filled to the brim with fresh Italian delicacies, but more of the boxed kind. Your name and amazing Yelp reviews misled me. After you get past the bakery/deli, it's a normal Food King. I noticed that some of the items I looked at had expired already which I find the most irritating part about grocery stores. This place wasn't cheap. This is a Staten Island secret I was here 10years ago and it was no where near what it is now! Place is huge and beautiful and has a great selection of produce and meats and fish! We bought a case of water here three weeks ago & it had bugs in it. Not one or two multiple bugs. Then I bought a salad the following week, but the one that la Bella packs. I was eating it at work and there was a piece of cardboard in my salad. I've gotten this salad multiple times and haven't had an issue so I decided to try again. Bought it Sunday, today is Monday and the lettuce is molded. Kind of at the point where we shop here weekly and spend hundreds monthly and I'm disgusted. read more

This Saturday May 23rd I purchased nearly $294.00 of groceries, this morning Monday 25th at 10am I went to prepare for my cooking of the day, I opened the 2 packages of chicken and the smell was terrible i took it back to the store the girl in the front told me to see the butcher I spoke to 2 of them neither would take it back, I went to the office by the front registers he didn't even let me finish talking he cut me off and told me forget it we aren't taking it back. Really so what should I do just throw my money away. That's all I needed to know now I don't go back let me state they all know me in there as a regular customer so if I was treated like that then that's how they treat everyone read more

So dissatisfied with their customer service and spoiled prepared soup. Soup had their label on the front and a different label on the back which looked as if it was covering the original label. The back label had an expiration date that had not yet expired. Went back with the container to show manager of deli department. To my disbelief he was arrogant, demanded a receipt and the spoiled soup! He implied that we ate the soup and wanted a freebie- mind you we spend well over $100 or more each week in this store. As soon as you step into La Bella Marketplace you feel as if you have been transported to a far off place called Italy.
