I am sharing my experience with the service I received from Carl's Mower regarding my 2-year-old Honda HRX217 self-propelled lawn mower. My experience has raised serious concerns about their service practices, warranty support, and customer treatment at this Honda dealership. On April 17, 2025, Carl's Mower performed a camshaft replacement under Honda's official safety recall warranty service. During this service, they also replaced the mower's carburetor without my prior knowledge or authorization. I submitted a written complaint to Carl's Mower about replacing the carburetor to which they responded by stating they would strive to improve communication. On May 8, 2025, I had to return the mower to Carl's Mower because the mower would no longer idle - an issue clearly related to the newly installed carburetor. Later that same evening, I received a voicemail saying the mower was ready for pickup. When I arrived the next morning, May 9, the sales representative asked if I had used any ethanol-containing gasoline in the mower since their warranty work to replace the camshaft. I said Yes, I used regular unleaded gasoline from the gas station which contained up to 10% ethanol (E10) - which fully complies with Honda's published fuel recommendations. Despite this, they refused to perform any adjustments under warranty, citing the use of ethanol content gasoline was a disqualifier, and that I would have to pay to adjust the carburetor idle. I pointed out that even the Honda Owner's Manual (WPC.204008.2021.04) on page 15 explicitly states that gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol (E10) is acceptable. The representative stood by their decision and reiterated they would not perform any service unless I would pay for it. I refused of course and asked for my mower back. To my surprise, when I left the building, I found they had strangely already loaded my mower into the bed of my truck without my knowledge or consent. After bringing the mower home, I personally adjusted the throttle cable to correct the idle issue. But when I went to fill the fuel tank, I found a significant amount of dirt and debris inside the mower's plastic fuel tank - as if a handful of dirt had been thrown inside. I have used the same clean, filtered gas can for years and cannot explain the dirt contamination. The only times the mower has been handled or refueled were during Carl's Mower's camshaft recall warranty work and the follow-up carburetor service. I thoroughly cleaned the tank, the lines, tank filter and carburetor bowl, and refilled the mower with gasoline. There was no dirt or contaminants in the gas tank. Since then, the mower has run without issue, and no further contamination has appeared. This experience leaves me deeply concerned about Carl's Mower's service integrity: * Unauthorized part replacement * Not providing the old carburetor part when requested * Refusal to provide follow-up service on their own parts replacement work * Misrepresentation of Honda's safe fuel guidelines specifically regarding the Authorized use of 10% ethanol containing gasoline * Apparent mishandling or contamination of my mower's fuel tank Based on these events, I no longer trust Carl's Mower and will never return, choosing to take my business to Lynden. I am also disappointed that such a dealership represents the Honda brand, which I have long trusted for quality and reliability in my mower, pressure washer, and generator for decades. Customers deserve authorized service centers that act professionally, follow manufacturer safe fuel guidelines, and treat warranty claims with integrity. read more

I'm somewhat conflicted on my review but here it is. I am a return customer but may go elsewhere for future lawn equipment needs. The good: This is a great local business if you're in the market for yard equipment. Staff seems to be knowledgeable and provide several options for whatever you need. The store is clean and easy to navigate. When purchasing a chainsaw, we received a personal demonstration with instruction. You certainly won't get that at a big box store. Could be better: It's very annoying that, on one occasion while shopping with my husband, Carl primarily spoke to him. I was the primary consumer, asked questions, and made the final decision when selecting a chainsaw but received only a few glances. If you are a lady, you understand how rude this is. read more

I've been using carls over 30 years. They used to have a good name. Used to. My dad bought an ariens lawn mower back in 1992 and I've been maintained it ever since till eventually the parts were getting hard to find. I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a new mower. Ariens doesn't make quality like they used to so I was convinced to buy a wall behind Honda from Carls for 700 bucks. Barely had the shitty price of plastic for 3 months and it stopped starting. Brought it into carls and they say I was using old gas which corroded the carburetor. Hmmmm. Not under warranty. 180 plus tax for repair. They've lost their edge. They don't sell anything with quality anymore. They don't offer anything that your local Lowe's or Home Depot can sell you. But Lowe's or Home Depot will get you the exact same mower. For hundreds cheaper. Should have gone with my gut and not bought it there. Sure they fill it up with gas. Woo hoo. Could have bought years worth of gas for what I could have saved buying the mower elsewhere read more

Everyone seems to love this business including my father in law who's a huge advocate for them as well as one of my good friends who's bought a few items from them as well. I was told how great the Automower is and when we were having our second child we decided to put up the cash and get one. We bought that and had the people of Carl's mower out a few times. I'm not sure why but we've had issues with the Automower from the start which is why we've had their people out a few times. Either way I bought this thing in 2022 and it's a decision I've regretted ever since. I had chalked up the issues as user error or yard terrain. I've filled in pot holes, cleared debris, had new wire set the whole thing. I even tried to build a little wall where it was continuously getting stuck. Also bought the "beefier" wheels and what not online. I have bought the replacement blades and screw pack twice now to try and keep those up to date in case that was cause some sort of issue. I know there's someone there today who gonna attempt to get it working again and I'm sure that'll cost some sort of fee as well. With all that said the Automower doesn't work as promised even with all the upgrades and yard maintenance you have to do to get it going and keep it going. Issue is it gets stuck or dies somewhere around the yard all the time. And by all the time I mean several times a day. When I was working from home I just put up with it and would chase it down and lug that thing across the yard back to the docking station. Now that I'm not it's become an unbearable piece of trash for me. We've had to mow with our push and riding lawn mower as if we didn't have it the last two years. Again all of this I was chalking up to yard, user error, ect because the people of Carl's mower assured me it was perfect and it should be working fine. So I can take them saying it's my fault it's not working since it's "perfect." When I explained to my father in law what had been happening with it he was kinda shocked because his works well for him. When he brought it up to them someone at Carl's mower called me a liar saying I didn't spend what I had told him I spent on different ways to get it to work. I showed my father in law the invoices and he'd brought it back up to them and they changed their statement to reflect the fact that they moved locations and so maybe something was lost in translation when calling me a liar. Either way I had thrown my hands up with this thing ever actually working well but since I'm getting sucked back into the "it's my fault it doesn't work" and that I'm a "liar" I figured I'd write a small yelp review for anyone looking to get a Automower. Don't waste your money and certainly don't share your frustrations with Carl's cause it's probably your fault and they're gonna let you know. read more

My Huqvarna yard tractor was running like crap! Tough to start, rumbling performance, mower deck that no longer raised and lowered correctly, tearing more than cutting grass. I don't own a truck or trailer, so finding service was issue 1. Carl's team picked up the machine, communicated super thoroughly about problems, solutions, and costs before I agreed to spend a dime. I have been a regular customer of Carl's for over 20 years. I've bought all my power equipment ,chainsaws, auger, brushers, Leaf blowers from Carl's. They have done all my maintenance and repairs. I've spent thousands of dollars at Carl's for all this equipment and repairs. Then I bought a Husqvarna Riding Mower from Carl's. I've owned it for about five years. During that time it has blown a head gasket, the engine sized when the oil plug fill out, (neither Carl's or I ever touched the plug , factory installed and it fill out on it's own.) Fuel system and cutting deck problems. A week ago after Carl's did the annual maintenance and replaced a blade belt ($500+) this week it broke again. I'm told the cutting deck has be replaced for another $1,500. Even some of Carl's staff agreed I got a lemon. I asked for a trade in on a replacement. They offered me 100 bucks. So much for customer loyalty. I know they didn't build the Husqvarna mower but they sell and service it. Carl's retired so maybe things have changed with his sons taking over. read more

First time customer bringing in my Stihl brand weed eater to be serviced. Carl helped me pick out replacement parts/string/blades and was very helpful and knowledgeable of what worked best for my yard. A day later my weed eater was fixed and running like a champ. When I came into the store to pick it up, Josh Levien provided excellent customer service, gave me suggestions on what blade attachment to buy, put it on for me, and even took my Stihl in the back to clean up some of the grease and grime in some of the hard to reach places. Overall, I don't generally get online and leave reviews but Carl's store, it's employees from front of house to back were very professional and helpful and even followed up via text to make sure all was working well after I left. Being new to the PNW I needed a new mower for our new place. After going to one of the big box stores, the Orange one, it was apparent that customer service is NOT a priority to them. We decided to look for a local owned business, in our new neighborhood and Google suggested Carl's and off we went. It is a busy little place and we did wait about 5 minutes to speak with someone. While waiting we looked at all of the products available and the customers who were getting help at the service desk all seemed happy. The guys definitely know the products, services and their customers. Josh got off his call, apologized for the wait and proceeded to show us a Garden Tractor to meet my mowing needs. Josh was friendly, funny and a great salesman for our purchase. We asked about delivery and because we have a Tundra, Josh offered a trailer and a ball so we could pick it up on Saturday morning. The financing was easy peasy and we left happy and excited to get our new tractor. The next morning, Saturday, we went back to get the trailer and the tractor. It had been serviced and filled with gas. Josh helped hubs load it up and off we went. I can't even find the words to say how happy we are with this business and the excellent personal attention we received from Josh and Carl. I am a firm supporter in locally owned businesses; you will not leave disappointed in any way. Last year I needed some odd ball parts for a Honda hydraulic power pack for my dungy crab boat and they were able to get them the next day. It was a hassle everywhere else and they lined it out with ease and were great to deal with. It was by no means a big ticket order and they got after it like it was. Today I walked in and bought a $1200 dollar saw from them even though I could get it closer to where I live. Again they didn't disappoint and gave me a card for free chain sharpenings for the foreseeable future. When I went to fill the saw for the first time it was already full of bar oil and fuel. Good family-owned store that caters to professional gardeners and yard service companies. They rep. Honda mowers and Stihl equipment which are top-of-the-line. Carl and his staff/sons know their stuff and will service most machines. One cautionary note is that they have now decided they will not service certain brands. I brought in my 21" Poulan push mower in for a service after it had trouble starting. They charged $110 to prime the carburetor and sharpen the blade and did it in a couple days. That was good. Upon picking up the machine, Carl himself told me that they would no longer service my mower. I asked why and he said something about drive train parts being hard to find and I reminded him this was a push mower with a regular Briggs & Stratton engine I bought 5 years ago at the local Home Depot - should be very basic. Nevertheless, he said they would no longer service this brand. Not sure why, but I figure they want to encourage customers to buy Honda. That's their right, but now I'll have to find a small-engine shop that's more flexible. read more

Terrible service. I had my lawn mower flushed and carburetor rebuilt. Paid over a hundred dollars. Got to mow lawn once, same problem arrised. Brought it in thinking they would take care of it. NO. They even siad it is the same problem, and will take the exact same fix. Costs me 35 dollars just to have them tell me that. Terrible company. read more
