We have Carl's (Mario & staff) do all of our exhaust work on our classic cars. The work they perform is excellent. Mario makes sure that our mufflers, resonators pipes are factory correct. His installations are the best we have ever received in our 40 years of restoring classic cars. We also have had mechanical work done. They rebuilt the front end of our 67 Camaro convertible. The shop that performed the alignment afterwards said that Carl's work was perfect. We highly recommend them. Best exhaust work in all of Santa Barbara County and SLO too.

The hardest part about car maintenance is finding the right mechanic to do it for you. I researched some muffler shops around Santa Maria and called around to see who would be able to install a new muffler onto my 2005 Infiniti G35 Sedan. They would have to cut the old one off and install new hangers and weld a custom pipe to fit the muffler that I wanted installed. Most of the shops didn't even bother giving me an estimate over the phone, but Mario at Carl's Muffler Shop gave me a ball-park figure of around $60 without looking at the car. Sounds great. I asked when the best time is to get this done and he went ahead telling me that I could come in right as soon as we got off the phone if I wanted to. Unfortunately, that timeline didn't work for me, but he just said show up when he opens shop ON A SATURDAY. Not many Mechanics are open on the weekend. I show up and the shop looks amazing. A little waiting room with a TV and Magazine selection. I asked if I could just wander around and watch him work and he said no problem. There was another worker named Sam who did the welding and fitting, while Mario made the custom piping. They were both professional and easy to talk to. I asked about some fluid coming out of the Mid-Pipe that I had custom built and installed in a different Muffler Shop in Arroyo Grande, and they informed me that they didn't do the welds properly, but they would be glad to re-do them for FREE. The whole operation took about 30 minutes from the time I drove my car onto the lift to the time I drove it out of the shop. I've never seen any pair of Mechanics work more efficiently. Mario and Sam are wonderful and I will definitely be bringing my car back for any future repairs or upgrades.

This station for decades has always had a pretty good reputation for service and smogs. Knowing it…read morehad been sold in recent time I still did not hesitate to take my car here for the bi annual smog. Welp, my car didn't even make it that far as a check engine light came on and I was told there was no point in doing the smog as it would not pass until the death red light was extinguished. The guys here were very helpful and knowledgeable. Lorenzo explained by physically showing me under the hood what needed to done, how long it would take and how much of my life savings would be drained to complete this. While the dollar amount is high, for not having my car ever seriously serviced, I understood why. The decision to leave my car was easy , as Lorenzo's effort and time to educate me and explain in detail what needed to be done was comforting, I was confident my car was in great hands. While they had my car, Lorenzo called and said he noticed I would need an oil change soon and asked if I wanted him to do it as he had the car opened up already. I was hesitant at first, but just had him do it as I did not want to make another appointment in a couple of weeks for oil. Finally, a couple of days later and I was picking up my car. Lorenzo went over what he did. Took the time to show me what he changed out. Compared my parts to the new ones he put in , and it was like night and day, or clogged to unclogged. Let me know how my MPg's should show a difference and let me know of a couple of other things I should get done for safety reasons or looked at without any pressure of them doing it. I checked out with the cashier, paying exactly what I was quoted and the owner was so nice in giving g me a discount on my after the fact oil change. As I was leaving the owner, Gus came out and thanked me personally for trusting them with my car and for my business. That was awesome and memorable as now days, it's rare anyone says thank you or shows gratitude, and maybe even more rarer that it would be the owner of an establishment. Finding a service station that is trustworthy, knowledgeable, transparent , has integrity and fair in pricing is just as rare. But here it is. If your car is in need of any type of service or needs to be looked at, come see the guys at Old Orcutt Kwik Stop first. If they cannot fix it , they will advise you on who can , and at the very least, you will leave a little more knowledgeable about your car then when you first drove in. And as an added bonus, you might have a great chance of meeting the new owner Gus, guaranteed, he will make you smile.

That wasn't in fact I was embarrassed because I should've known better, but they took a look and all is well being new to the area. I was looking for a shop that I could start to use on a regular basis and would be there for repairs of ever really needed them and I believe I found the shop. Chris was a person that helped me and I appreciated his input.

A Shop With A Heart & Quality Work If you're on vacation,…read moretraveling through the Santa Maria area, a local resident with an unexpected car drivability problem, or just plain looking for an honest, down-to-earth shop that provides quality work, don't fret! There is such a shop that you can trust without hesitation! For the past three years, the repairs and services on my 2012 Ford Escape and 2012 VW Turbo S Coupe have been handled solely at Rick's Car Care, without a worry or hesitation on my part about their qualifications to do the work right the first time. Needless but necessary to state, the estimate and cost of the work to be done are reasonable, not inflated. What makes Rick's Car Care stand out above other family-owned independent automotive repair and service shops? To begin with, it is founded on old-school customer service, honesty, and quality work. Something that is becoming extinct when deep-pocket corporations purchase shops from retiring owners. However, a bright light shines on the answer to this dark auto repair and service scenario: Rick's Car Care! A family-owned independent shop owned by Erick Enright and his wife, Amanda, that remains steadfast in providing great customer service and the highest-quality repairs and services to its clientele. If you are seeking honest, friendly shops that provide quality work, I highly recommend this shop not just as a John Q. Public customer, but also as a former sole proprietor and automotive technician at a local shop.

I have mixed, but mostly positive, opinions of this business. The staff seemed friendly, and I…read moreappreciate that they took the time to provide a thorough diagnosis of my vehicle. They confirmed that my spark plugs and wires were heavily worn by swapping the spark plug from cylinder 4 to cylinder 6, where the misfire followed the plug. That gave me confidence that the spark plug was the source of the issue. That being said, there were a few aspects of the experience that I think prospective customers should know about. First, the diagnostic fee was $180, which I felt was on the expensive side. I came in already suspecting that the issue involved the spark plugs and wires, so I wasn't expecting such an extensive diagnostic process. After discussing the repair with other mechanics, I also learned that removing and reinstalling older spark plugs can carry some risk on higher-mileage engines because aged plugs can seize or break during removal. Nothing went wrong in my case, but I would have appreciated that potential risk being explained before the diagnostic procedure was performed. Better communication would have gone a long way. I was also told, "I don't want to scare you into not driving this vehicle," while being encouraged to complete the repairs there. If there was a genuine safety concern, I appreciate hearing it, but I would have preferred a more practical conversation focused on the condition of the vehicle and my options rather than feeling pressure to make an immediate repair decision. Additionally, when I asked whether there were ways to reduce the cost, I was told the fuel system service could be postponed and completed later. That made me wish the recommendations had been presented from the beginning with a clearer distinction between what was necessary to address the misfire and what could reasonably be deferred as preventative maintenance. Ultimately, I chose to have the repairs completed elsewhere because I was able to supply my own parts and save money overall. Although Rick's labor estimate was higher ($468 compared to $200 elsewhere), the total repair cost ended up being lower because the other shop allowed me to provide my own parts. I don't believe this is a bad shop, and I think it's a friendly, family-owned business that performs thorough diagnostics. I'm simply encouraging customers to ask questions, understand the diagnostic costs and repair recommendations, and make the decision that best fits their own situation.
