You never get to see the vet because they always take your pets into the back room and tell you to come back later to pick them up. It was starting to irritate me. So today was the last straw. This morning I found a fledgling robin on the ground. It it appeared to be paralyzed, couldn't hop, and just lay on the ground flapping its wings. I put it in a box with a little blanket, covered the box with a towel, and drove it to this Animal Care Center in Stanford. The door was locked and an older lady was tapping on the door for several minutes. An employee finally opened it and asked what she wanted. The older lady said that she was there to pick up her dog. The employee said that they were in a meeting, and to come back in an hour. Then she looked at me and asked what I wanted. I told her about the baby bird and asked if they could just look at it and see if it was paralyzed or not. She asked if it was a wild bird and I said yes. She was very rude to me, and told me that they were all in a meeting, and the doctor was in surgery, and they don't treat birds anyway. Then she proceeded to close the door and lock it. All I wanted was for them to look at the baby bird, and determine whether or not it was paralyzed. If it was, I was going to ask for it to be humanely euthanized. If it wasn't, I would return it to the wild, where I had found it. I cannot believe that a veterinary office would turn away any creature in need of care, be it wild or not. Especially in an urgent situation, when I even offered to pay. What a serious lack of kindness and compassion. This was the last straw for me today. I will definitely be taking my pets elsewhere from now on.

Dr Carlton is a gentleman, and takes his time during examinations. I trust his judgement and believe he would not suggest procedures or treatment he would not do for his own pets. We weren't allowed to take her because she was "still healing" and Dr. Carlton was "very particular about his surgeries" and didn't want our own vet to continue her care for fear something might be done wrong. When she was handed over to us, we were told everything was good to go, her most severe injury - a badly broken foreleg - was totally healed and she had no restrictions on behavior. They only encouraged us to do at-home physical therapy by manually moving and manipulating the leg to stretch the muscles. After two weeks of having her, something didn't seem right and the wound was reopening, so we took her to our vet of choice. After x-rays, it was determined that the break wasn't "healed" at all, the bone fragments were being held together by wires and not stabilized by anything. Additionally, the wires were causing an infection, which is why the wound had reopened. After MANY requests for all her xrays, Dr. Carlton's office finally sent them. From those x-rays you could see that the leg was in the exact same condition (minus the infection) that it had been when he gave her to us. The board certified orthopedic surgeon at our current vet recommended amputation because he said the x-rays "look like an experiment" and attempting to repair the damage done would cost tens of thousands of dollars, would not be guaranteed to work anyway and may still end in amputation (after many surgeries, a lot of scar tissue, and a lot of suffering for our girl), and if it did work, that leg would always be at least two inches shorter than the other foreleg. When told about the upcoming amputation, the office manager said the bone was "totally intact and healed" when she was given to us and asked what we did to her. Amputation may have always been the only solution. However, what was done at Carlton's office put our sweet girl through so much more than she needed to go through and removed any possibility of saving her leg.

Over that time, we worked with multiple veterinarians here and spent thousands of dollars, so we genuinely believed there was a level of mutual trust and respect. In the past, the clinic had shown some flexibility when large bills came up, which we appreciated as loyal, long-term customers. However, our most recent visit completely changed our perception. We were quoted $254 for routine blood and urine testing, which is already on the higher side. When we asked for just a couple of days to settle the payment--something that had been accommodated before--we were unexpectedly refused. Instead, we were pressured at the front desk to apply for a credit line on the spot, and we were not allowed to leave until we addressed the payment situation. The experience felt incredibly uncomfortable, forced, and frankly disrespectful. After years of loyalty and significant financial commitment, being treated this way was shocking. It felt like the clinic no longer values its long-term clients and has shifted toward a rigid, impersonal, and customer-unfriendly approach. Between the high pricing and the way this situation was handled, we've decided to take our business elsewhere. This was, without question, one of the worst experiences we've had at any veterinary clinic. We will not be returning.

I have had several animals vetted there prior to change in ownership and they were wonderful. Even helped me with my semi feral cat who gets bad allergy breakouts. They vetted him by picture and it worked. Otherwise, I have to trap the poor kitty with a coon trap. New vet won't prescribe the medication (saying it's illegal / a steroid) unless he is seen. Won't to do it with pictures even though we've been treating him for years this way (he's indoor for 9 years but still won't be picked up). So the cat gets to suffer OR be mentally anguished by being trapped. I guess the original vet wasn't worried about jail time. He was worried for the animal. Will be taking ALL my animals elsewhere going forward.
