Used to be the best now the worst. Since new ownership, you can never get through on the phone, they up charge for everything and are inflexible with treatment. I have had several animals vetted there prior to change in ownership and they were wonderful. Even helped me with my semi feral cat who gets bad allergy breakouts. They vetted him by picture and it worked. Otherwise, I have to trap the poor kitty with a coon trap. New vet won't prescribe the medication (saying it's illegal / a steroid) unless he is seen. Won't to do it with pictures even though we've been treating him for years this way (he's indoor for 9 years but still won't be picked up). So the cat gets to suffer OR be mentally anguished by being trapped. I guess the original vet wasn't worried about jail time. He was worried for the animal. Will be taking ALL my animals elsewhere going forward. read more

We've been clients of this clinic for about three years and, until recently, had trusted them with the care of our pets through some very difficult moments--including saying goodbye to two of our senior dogs. Over that time, we worked with multiple veterinarians here and spent thousands of dollars, so we genuinely believed there was a level of mutual trust and respect. In the past, the clinic had shown some flexibility when large bills came up, which we appreciated as loyal, long-term customers. However, our most recent visit completely changed our perception. We were quoted $254 for routine blood and urine testing, which is already on the higher side. When we asked for just a couple of days to settle the payment--something that had been accommodated before--we were unexpectedly refused. Instead, we were pressured at the front desk to apply for a credit line on the spot, and we were not allowed to leave until we addressed the payment situation. The experience felt incredibly uncomfortable, forced, and frankly disrespectful. After years of loyalty and significant financial commitment, being treated this way was shocking. It felt like the clinic no longer values its long-term clients and has shifted toward a rigid, impersonal, and customer-unfriendly approach. Between the high pricing and the way this situation was handled, we've decided to take our business elsewhere. This was, without question, one of the worst experiences we've had at any veterinary clinic. We will not be returning. read more

Dr. Headly is easy to work with regarding concerns you may have about your pet. You can tell that he is truly concerned for your pet companion. Recently, he helped two new fur kids to join our family, too. His prices are reasonable, and it's nice to support a small business in the neighborhood. I went to see his son, Dr. Cooper, when our dog, Petey, was having seizures, and he got Petey on a good medication to control his seizures. I haven't visited this establishment personally; but since my daughter doesn't post reviews, I wanted to provide others who may have issues with aggressive animals a bit of assurance that they are excellent with even the grumpiest of patients. I usually take Dexter to vets myself, since he always does better with firm but loving hugs (and a little anxiety medication). But my daughter recently moved to Lexington and asked around for the best vet. Her neighbor recommended them highly. And yes, Dexter is named for the show which is based loosely on his life as a serial biting chihuahua mix. I had a FANTASTIC first Vet visit for my two kittens at the Chevy Chase Animal Clinic! As soon as I walked in with my kittens, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the staff. They were all very kind and helpful. My Veterinarian was just the sweetest! She was extremely thorough with both of my kittens' examinations, was able to get my kitten his vaccination and microchip done quickly, treated the kittens very well, and answered all of the questions that I had. Hi everyone out there in Chevy Chase Small Animal Clinic FANDOM!! Oldly enough, Dr Eric Headley was one of the first people I met after moving to Lexington in early, early 2000 and one of the first at Christ Church Cathedral downtown where I had just begun attending services. We prepared breakfast for the Cathedral in the old kitchen, before the new addition of our Great Hall and new, spacious kitchen were completed. As I recall ( but I will say, I'm 'old as dirt' and my memory isn't what it used to be!!) we were the only two on Saturday to prepare and had never met before and had the best time cooking ( and, not only is he the BEST VET , he's not half bad in the kitchen!) I was confident enough about what kind of person/vet he was to then entrust my beloved 3 year old Golden Retriever, Maxwell, into his care and boy what care we received! And when, at age 15 Maxwell was ready to tell us goodbye and meet all the other precious four legged members of my family in pet heaven, Eric came to my house and I held Max in my lap outside on the front porch, one of his favorite places, and he quietly and peacefully flew away with the angels that were there that day with us. It made one of the hardest things I've ever had to do bearable. And THEN, along came Bella, a 10 year old Beagle I rescued and the love and care were as loving, compassionate, and all encompassing. And when it was Bella's time to say goodbye, again, Eric was right there and gave her and me the most loving, peaceful, compassionate fly-away with the angels yet again. My heart is entwined and so filled with gratitude for the care Eric and his entire staff have shown me over the course of the past almost 25 years. After I lost Bella my children told me I was too old for another dog so I now have my first cat! And what a cat she is:...her name is Peggy and she only has three legs. It was definitely a God thing since I wear a prosthetic leg! Don't ask!! She's just beautiful... gray, white, tad of black and some orange-yellow tuffs mixed in. Sweet as can be and can out- run a rabbit any day of the week ‍. Eric wasn't there to see us last week when I took her in to have her checked out so we saw one of the younger Dr Headleys, Dr Cooper. And to say he's carrying forward the care that I've described here is putting it mildly. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the future of Chevy Chase Small Animal Clinic that has become the BEST small animal veterinary clinic in the city and surrounding areas because of very hard work and dedication to the welfare of not only their animal patients but the owners as well, will continue under the tutilage of not only Dr Eric but now also his very handsome and professional and well educated sons and daughters. I love the staff here. We've been taking our kittens here ever since I got involved with a man with cats --13 years. I've taken the kitties here for everything from new kitty shots, annual rabies vaccines, to the most recent, bladder surgery. The staff is great. I know my pets will be well taken care of Every time I drop them off. Most recently, my cat had bladder stones. This is not a good thing and an even worse thing for boy cats. The doctor explained all the options and ultimately, I chose to have my cat have the surgery. It was the best option for him and I knew he was in good hands. Everything went as planned. The surgery went well and my cat is loopy, but not in pain and happily eating. This place really is great. read more

I am VERY happy with the service we have received here! We have been bringing our pup here for about a year and love that we can just walk from our house. Everyone who works here is super nice and always friendly to our dog. I assumed they would be expensive (considering their proximity to Chevy Chase), but they are actually less expensive than the vet we had been going to - their rates are very reasonable. While we haven't had any major injuries or illnesses that we have had to deal with, we have had to bring our dog in on a couple occasions for a broken dew claw. Both times I was able to get an appointment the same day. The first time they clipped off the broken part and wrapped it nicely. The second time there was nothing to clip off. They examined it, said that it was fine the way it was (it was fine, but we just weren't sure which is why we brought him in) and didn't even charge us for the visit since it was so short. I think that kind of service is fantastic! This is a great office and I actually look forward to bringing my dog here! read more

This is the best animal clinic! Dr Headley & the staff go over and above the call of duty to care for our furry family members. Last year, I was home bound for 4 months due to a triple broken leg (& in the summer no less!). Two of the staff members actually came to my house to trim my dog's nails & bring her medicine-how often do you find ANY dr's office that makes house calls?! They also kept my dog there one weekend when we were going away but couldn't board her at the last minute due to a bad cough she had-again-over and above! And knowledgeable-no doubt. I have 4 cats & a dog (had 2 dogs & they had to put one down for me & that's another story) & trust all my animals to their expert care. They helped me with my new adopted kitten, including spaying & de-clawing. And yes I know that is amputation but with the other 3 older & declawed & a person in the house on blood thinners we decided after careful consideration to proceed. I would never trust anyone else to do that. Now about our beloved Roxy-we had to put her down about 3 years ago-she was almost 15. They knew how hard it was & had me come in the back door, greeted me & someone stayed with me the entire time. There was no demand for payment that day either. I cannot believe this clinic has not been reviewed yet. Really, they are the best!! Dr. Eric Handley is the best vet I have ever taken my pets to visit. He is thoughtful, caring, goes above and beyond, and has the skills you want in a vet. We started bringing our cats to Dr. Eric and thought he was pricey at first for routine issues like shots and neutering but I had only been to one other vet and didn't really know much. Then we started to have problems and Dr. Eric was a god send! First, our cat had a problem with her eye. Dr. Eric thought she might have cancer and sent us to a specialist he knew outside of town. Yup, cancer in her eye and it had to be removed. Dr. Eric did it in his clinic with expert care and precision. Gracie looked like she was winking all the time but didn't seem to miss the eye at all. Another one of our cats had kidney failure. Dr. Eric gave us all of the options for treating, never even offering to put him to sleep at that point because he knew we wouldn't. Dr. Eric helped keep our cat happy for another 14 months. He even offered to visit our home to put our cat to sleep when the time came. Our old hound dog liked him and Dr. Eric was knowledgeable about the health certificates we needed to take our 2 cats and dog to Europe with us. We found a stray cat with injuries which Dr. Eric gave us a great deal on services because we were helping a cat out. Another cat I found hit by a car and took him in and Dr. Eric stayed past closing to help the cat even though we didn't know where the cat lived. He is also the vet who saved the "cat with no face" who has been in the news. Oh, the staff is warm and friendly and wonderful too! Dr. Eric is a wonderful, thoughtful, big hearted individual and vet who I would trust with any one of my animals. We miss you Dr. Eric!! read more

What a refreshingly friendly and accommodating place. Someone always answers the phone (a human person) and they are always ready to talk you through whatever you need. One incident that comes to mind is when my sweet dachshund was stung by a bee. As a first time dog owner, I was, admittedly, borderline hysterical when her muzzle swelled up significantly. They talked me down, got her an emergency apt, and were incredibly helpful and comforting every step of the way. The facilities are charming and welcoming and all of the vets and staff are so sweet, doting on my pup every time we come in. I hear horror stories about people who have to drag their dogs into their vet because they're afraid of going; I don't think that's something any pet owner needs to worry about with this place. I train dogs professionally so I'm really really picky about my vets. Add to that a long stint working in vet's offices and a best friend who is a DVM and you get the picture. I know the dirt. :-) When we moved to Lexington finding a new vet was one of my first concerns. After consulting friends in the dog competition world and beyond I gave Chevy Chase a try. Dr. Piercy is just great and I was impressed. Soon after we moved one of my dogs developed a very rare form of stomach cancer and Dr.Piercy was a jewel and an asset. I've been nothing but impressed by the vets there (saw Dr. Eric once too, he is very down-to-earth and reasonable). The staff seems nice and compassionate and the office is clean and well managed. It's a busy place, so can get a little hectic at times, but all in all I would recommend it for just about anything dog and cat related. It's not cheap, but it is reasonable for the care provided. UPDATE: Dr. P isn't practicing there anymore...such a bummer. I will be time to take the girls in for their yearly physicals soon, so I'll have to check out the new vet and let ya know. We first came to Chevy Chase by way of the free check-up that the Lexington Humane Society provides with an adoption in 2012. We took our new 5 year old tabby in, and thought that everyone was very professional and comprehensive with their care. I, also at the time thought the care was on the high side, but they are always very honest and upfront with pricing for everything they recommend. For that, I believe they are quite competitive for what you get. What really drove me to write this review, however, was the care that a very sick stray cat received when we brought him to the clinic. We didn't have an appointment, we didn't even know what we were planing on doing the poor guy. Yet, Dr. Melissa Egan treated him as if she would her own cat, with the same outstanding care we have come to expect from this clinic. She even cut the cost of her services (money out of her own pocket) to treat him. We enjoyed the staff and compassion that our pet received so much we plan to keep taking all our pets here while we live in Lexington. They truly live up to their title of "Best Vet in Lexington!" read more

This vet's office is amazing and it's no wonder they've been voted as the best Vet in Lexington. That's actually how I came across them when we moved here from out of state and we were looking for a vet to bring our dog to. She had developed some kind of wound on her face that was getting infected, most likely a cat scratch that went out of control. The staff was super friendly and gushed over our dog and how cute she is. She is pretty cute! But it was our 2nd visit to Chevy Chase Animal Clinic that made us realize how amazing they are. Keep in mind that the only other time we had been in was once before and it was with another dog. We were not what I would call an established client or long time customer. This time, we had to bring in our elderly dog who was showing his age and having symptoms that don't need to be shared here. But we were pretty sure this was going to be his last car ride. We were able to schedule a same day appointment. When we arrived, we simply checked in with our name and they allowed us to bring our dog in through the back entrance. We didn't even have to fill out any kind of forms or paperwork. Dr. Eric was so kind and compassionate for our situation. He reassured us that we were making the right decision and was quite simply a Godsend. We were obviously upset and as such, so was the staff. After our dog passed, the staff told us to stay in the room with him as long as we wanted to and told us to leave out the backdoor when we were ready to go. When I asked about checking out and paying, they told us not to worry about it today and they would contact us later. It was amazing and such a blessing to not have to go out into the waiting room with other people with their pets. They simply just mailed us a bill for what we owed. And on top of that, about a week later we received a card from the Lexington Humane Society, saying that a donation had been made in our dog's name by Chevy Chase Animal Clinic. I was speechless and decided that day we would never bring our pets to anyone else. I can't recommend Chevy Chase Animal Clinic enough and if I could, I would give them 10 stars. I started going to Chevy Chase Animal clinic when I got my dog Knox in 2015. I have nothing but amazing things to say. Both Dr. Headley & Dr. Hastings are amazing along with all the staff that help them--they are so passionate about animals. A few weeks ago I called frantically because my dog had eaten a lot of chocolate and they were quick to take me in (& it was close to closing time). They kept reassuring me that everything would be okay-after I was getting ready to leave they told me to call them tomorrow so I could give a full report on how he was doing. Dr. Headley is one of the most honest veterinarians in Lexington. He is very compassionate and knowledgeable of what he is doing. They have been taking care of my fur babies for about 3 years now. I switched to them because the other vet I was going to would always try to talk me into things that were more expensive that my dog didn't really need. Whenever we would come in for an office visit he would recommend what he thought we should do and would not try to make us get the most expensive thing possibly done. And the girls at the front desk and the staff in the back are wonderful and very friendly. Sadly we had to put down my dog Daphne on June 5, 2020 and they allowed us to come in and let us tell her goodbye during this coronavirus outbreak. Even when they weren't allowing other patients to come in due to the coronavirus they welcomed us with open arms. He was very compassionate and let us sit in the room as long as we wanted to. They told us to take our time and whenever we were ready they would help us to the car with her. He didn't even make us pay right than he let us call and pay over the phone when we were ready. They also called ahead to the local pet crematorium and let them know that we were on our way. I've had dogs for 23 years now straight and in the 23 years this is the best veterinarian I've been to. From 42 years in Lexington and owning several dogs and cats, our animals have received stellar care almost across the board from the network of area veterinary services . In our experience , none are so caring and practice as high ethical standards as Chevy Chase under Dr Headley's leadership Five years ago we had given up on saving our ailing yorkie who could no longer walk up and down steps . Then to the rescue Dr Bidwell volunteers her services to try acupuncture treatment. It prolonged his life by 2 years . Within the last painful week , we had to put down our beloved Schnauzer Colby . I cannot say enough good things about Chevy Chase Animal Clinic and Dr.Hastings. We take our dogs to the clinic and most recently had to have our cat, Bunny, put to sleep. It was incredibly difficult but Dr. Hastings and all the staff were so kind and respectful. I will never forget how Dr. Hastings so gently wrapped Bunny in her blanket with such compassion. The clinic even made a donation to the local animal shelter in Bunny's name, it doesn't get any better than that and I will always be grateful.
