If I could give Carlton Neurofeedback Center zero stars, I would. On my very first visit they ran late with no apology, no explanation, and no concern for anyone else's time, leaving me sitting there feeling completely disregarded. The staff only made it worse--cold, dismissive, and dripping with attitude, like I was a burden just for showing up, with absolutely no warmth, empathy, or professionalism. For a place that's supposed to help people, the lack of care is shocking; the whole experience felt disorganized, disrespectful, and honestly embarrassing for a "health" center. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that treats patients like humans. read more

If this technique could be used for every child suffering with anxiety and ADHD I can only imagine how much easier their lives would be. For the past 6 years I have been on wait lists for therapy, counseling, evaluations, etc. I spent thousands on private tutoring, several thousand on counseling sessions, multiple co-payments on evaluations for occupational therapy. After finally getting a neuropsych evaluation and an assessment at schools - was able to get a 'diagnosis' of ADHD, anxiety, short term memory deficiency and extremely low recall speed. From there I discussed it with someone that had used Dr. Carlton who was very happy and so I immediately signed up for a free evaluation. His brain mapping was able to come up with a treatment plan which he said would take several sessions to notice a difference. My child and I both signed up to do sessions. After a few sessions I definitely noticed I was *way* calmer in my "moments of frustration", things that bothered me before didn't seem to be such a big deal anymore. I also was sleeping better! But let me talk about my child. Within maybe 4 sessions (at most) - out of nowhere, suddenly the executive functioning struggles and anxiety were WAY less. Doing homework on their own, remembering assignments, packing lunch the night before, "planning" the mornings out before school, not being in a panic rush about everything. Within the same week homework assignment grades start coming back. An "A" - Have never seen one of those! Another "A" - Wow! Some B's where "Fs" were last month. What has happened! Remarks from teacher that they are noticing something is different! This is amazing! I knew it had to be this because not a single other thing had changed. There was a time (almost 2 weeks) of flu illness where no sessions were done (about half way through the series of the first 20) and about that time the anxiety crept back in, yelling/being upset about little things - but as soon as we were able to get back on track, that went away. We did sessions at home, which is a little easier (for scheduling) but harder (because life gets in the way, so we were not as diligent as we should have been and would have had even more astonishing results if stayed on track). We are not done yet (will be doing another round of 10 after a new brain mapping) but I wanted to share the absolute amazing success we've had - what a difference it's made in our family dynamics, a more peaceful environment and more joy because the 'fog' has gone away and we can be more present in the moment. I can't say enough great things, I would highly recommend every single person that even thinks "maybe" this could help them to give it a try. I love that he really just wants to help people and offered us the 0% financing in-house making it affordable (cost is actually les than I expected). We did buy a cheap (used) laptop (for $50 on marketplace) to use for the at-home to have just a dedicated device since my Mac wasn't compatible with the program, but the equipment is otherwise on loan (I paid a deposit). I only wish we had found this sooner but am super grateful that I did find it though I feel bad when I see others suffering from similar and think "if they'd just go give this a try!!!" - so hopefully this review helps anyone that may be on the fence about it. read more

For most of my adult life I have been plagued with depression, anxiety and issues sleeping. Every day had been a struggle to focus and find something to smile about. I always had a habit of pushing my emotions to the side to deal with later but it always seemed that later never came and those emotions just couldn't help but spill out in unhealthy ways. My husband introduced me to Carlton NeuroFeedback and I have to admit I wasn't optimistic because i grew up not believing in any type of therapy. Today I stand as a testament of what NeuroFeedback can do! I do not take any medication or take any drugs whatsoever for my depression or anxiety. I process my emotions but immediately and healthy. My focus is uncharted and my job performance has gained recognition of being the "calm in a storm". I'm being giving more and more responsibilities that require more skill and trust. As for my sleep, I not only sleep more soundly, but I sleep more. On average I was getting about four or five hours of sleep per night now I'm averaging about 6 to 7 that may not see much but years of unhealthy, sleeping habits, take its toll. I've been going to Carlton Neuro Feedback in Manassas for the past 6 months. I started going because I was suffering with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and brain fog. I had been taking medication for my symptoms for over 20 years. Plus, I'd spent a lot of time in talk therapy with various mental health professionals. My symptoms were managed, but I wanted more. I wanted to come off of the medication. I wanted my brain to work more efficiently. Dr. Carlton understood me from the outset, and he genuinely wants to help people find relief. After my brain mapping, which was totally painless and easy, Dr. Carlton used the results to develop a treatment protocol to address my unique needs. Then, my brain training, neuro feedback, sessions began. I had the option of doing the sessions at home, but I chose to go to the office. They had a wide variety of TV shows for me to watch (anything on Netflix). Because I have vision issues, I was able to sit closer to the screen. Plus, Dr. Carlton assured me that the process works even on people who are completely blind. He said the auditory stimulation is sufficient, but any visual stimulation simply makes the process easier. I chatted with other Neuro feedback professionals. Some were unwilling to work with me because of my vision issues. I really appreciated Dr. Carlton taking the time to think outside the box. Plus, he patiently answered all of my questions. Throughout the 6 months, Dr. Carlton reviewed the results from each of my 40 sessions. He tracked my progress and could see that my brain was responding nicely to the training. He met with me several times throughout the months, and halfway through he repeated the brain mapping to make sure the overstimulated areas of my brain were calming down. About 2 months into the process, I started experiencing nausea. My anxiety spiked and I wondered if I was over medicating. Dr. Carlton warned me that would hopefully happen as the treatments did the work of training my brain. I was able to reduce my medication by 2/3. I leveled off until a couple of sessions before the end of my treatment. At that point, Dr. Carlton wanted to see if we could reduce the medication further and made some adjustments to the protocol. That change was the boost I needed. I'll be off my medication completely within the next couple of weeks. Yay!!! I just did my last brain training session, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Dr. Carlton said that any time I feel like I need some touch up treatments to give his office a call. He anticipates I will need a couple of sessions each year to maintain the healthier brain functioning. Some people do not require as many sessions, and some people never need to go back for touch up sessions. He recommends these sessions to everyone because life continues to happen. At the end of the treatment, the brain knows how to process effectively, but things are always changing. Some people's brains are able to change with life circumstances, and some people's brains need lines to keep them on the straight and narrow. Neither type of brain is better than the other; they are just different. It's like the fact that I cannot spell. I'm thankful for spell check on my computer because it allows me to produce good quality work without having to look up every other word in the dictionary. Plus, sometimes there are typos, and the spell check will catch those too. Dr. Carlton's office is a great place to find kind and understanding treatment and hope. Plus, his rates just can't be beat. He wants anyone who needs brain training to be able to access it. Thus, he keeps his rates low, and offers customized payment plans. BTW, the payment plans do not tack on additional fees, they just allow people to pay over time. Neuro feedback is not covered by most insurances, but it's worth the investment. I'm thrilled with the results. By the way, several people close to me have seen the benefits of my brain training and have either started their own journey or are thinking about it. For the last 10 years, I have had insomnia. Insomnia cascaded issues through my life--memory issues, weight gain, depression, irritability, etc. I didn't realize it until seeing Dr. Carlton, but it seems like, based on the exam from Dr. Carlton it was likely trauma related. I've been following the protocol set out by Dr. Carlton for about 5 weeks and at this point, I am sleeping pretty regularly (not every night, but substantially longer and better quality than I ever remember). As a result, I can't stress enough how much this has helped me. At first, I just felt like I was getting lucky a lot. Then I realized that I was having a string of really good days and attributed it to some good things happening in my life. This morning, I woke up thinking that I love my job, I love my kids, I love my husband and I really really love my life. I don't just feel better, I feel AMAZING. The cost slowed me from starting. Well, today I realized that the pain in my lower back wasn't going to go away on its own...so, I decided to make an appointment to go in and get an adjustment. I've never been to this office before but, since I've driven by it countless times...I thought I would try them out and see if they could help me. I called up and quickly scheduled an appointment for this afternoon. After taking just a few moments to fill out their "new" patient info sheet, I was greeted by a nice young lady who took me back to get my height and weight. I waited in the x-ray room for only a couple of minutes and then Dr. Ed Carlton came in. I told Dr. Ed that I have been having lower back pain for the last 5 weeks - spending too much time sitting in my office behind the computer. He suggested that we take a quick x-ray so that he could identify what the source of the problem is. I was hesitant because I used to see a chiropractor regularly about 18 years ago and felt that all I need is a quick adjustment. He said that his office was running a special for all new clients that included a free x-ray and consultation. So, I agreed to go ahead and have him take it. I had a seat in their waiting room for a few minutes and the doctor called on me to come take a look at the x-ray. He explained why I was having pain and showed me on the x-ray what was happening. At this time, we discussed his recommendations on how we could remedy this problem. He lead me to a lounge area where his assistant applied two electrical stimulation pads on my lower back, I rested while the machine sent deep electrical pulses in to my tense muscles. After about 5 minutes or so, I was led back into the waiting area to wait for the doctor. I was then led into the adjustment room by his assistant. Dr. Ed came in and told me what he was going to do. He performed the adjustments on my frame and quite literally within a minute or two I felt the pain subside...still tense mind you but, nothing like I had been feeling previously. For my situation, I'll require about 4 weeks worth of treatments. I just wanted to write up a quick review for others out there who are looking for a "good" chiropractor. Dr. Ed was very nice and took the extra time I needed to make sure I was comfortable. I appreciated that. I never felt rushed or, uncomfortable, or that I was a number. He answered every question I had and was very candid with me...something else I appreciate. At any rate...looking forward to my next appointment. UPDATE: Second visit on par with the first. Lower back still pretty tense. Had them crank up the dial on the electrical stimulation to reach those deep areas. Dr. Ed called me at home the following Monday to check on my status. ED has no real good bedside manner. my app was at 4:45 I got there at about 4:35 to see him as a new patinet and fill out paper work, it wasn't until about 5:30 that i got to see him and then he had me do some estim which takes even longer. after that i had to wait another 30 min just so he could adjust me. this is unbelievable will not be going back to him again. also he share the office with to other offices in the same witing and there is no pivicy between them at all. read more

I had a groupon (bought 2, one for me and my bf) for here last year, for the chiropractic adjustment and massage. There was an xray and diagnosis also, but I wasn't as interested in those things. Signing in wasn't difficult. The adjustments went decent, no issues. The massage was good, the lady had good relaxing music playing and both of us enjoyed her work. He still raves about it. Only complaint with this was we each had to wait for the other massage, because there is only one person to do it. So we sat around waiting for each other for awhile. There is another groupon currently, the same I bought last year for $40 (all that stuff included). If I was able to use that again I would probably go back, but it says first time people only. My first experience with Chiropractic care, and it was a good one. Dr. Carlton took a couple of x-rays, and explained the results to me in plain language. Always a plus when a Dr. actually talks to you, so you can really understand what's going on. It took a couple of follow up treatments, with the stimulation therapy, and adjustments, but my neck pain has cleared up, and I was relieved to find out that it was not a serious underlying problem. No pain medication required! The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is warm, and you'll get good care. Strongly recommend. read more

I'll be honest, I didn't have much faith into alternative treatment for my anxiety. After suffering for nearly two years, I was looking for a way to come back to my normal self. When I walked in Dr. Carlton's office in April 2018, I had pretty severe anxiety and insomnia which required quite serious medications. I was prescribed 30 sessions based on initial brain map that is performed on each patient for evaluation. I had done a bit of research in neurofeedback, but truly, couldn't imagine that sessions can be so enjoyable and I was looking forward to each and every one of them. Dr. Carlton is a great coach and he tweaked my treatment protocol to ensure it was beneficial for me. I believe neurofeedback has been very effective for my anxiety! Staff was really professional and courteous during my sessions, especially thanks to Jen and Raquel, who were exceptionally attentive. The only drawback is that this treatment is quite expensive and is not covered by insurance, but they offer payment plans so it's definitely worth it to feel great again! read more

I've been going to Dr. Ed for about 4 years now the last 2 may as needed. I was in bad shape when I came to him my left shoulder was literally 1 inch 1/2 lower than my right shoulder. I'd been to a dr after I got into a car accident and all they gave me was pain meds. I was struggling for 6 months before my husband finally told me I should see one. I went to Dr .Ed who did the xrays and all and finely someone who didnt push me away with pain meds. He gave me an actual plan. I'm a hairstylist and when your back is in constant pain. It's not an easy job to do. In a year I was finally in a good place . His honest up front approach was what I needed. I wont use another chiropractor. We took our two sons to Dr. Carlton in December of 2018. We initially went to Dr. Carlton for our older son who has ADHD and an auditory processing disorder. These two factors were affecting not only school for our day-to-day at home. Prior to the mapping we were also experiencing school issues with our younger son (letters home about his behavior every other week). We started neurofeedback in December and finished up 30 sessions for each boy this past week. We have seen many changes for both boys. Our younger son has had only two bad days at school since December. Additionally, the whining and constant negotiation with us has reduced immensely. He is much calmer than he was just a few months ago and able to think through his actions. Our older son has shown a marked difference in his ADHD behavior. He is able to work on his own on auditory processing programs where before I had to sit with him. He has also started spending time building with the many manipulative we have at home - not spending as much time insisting he play Robot!! Where I wouldn't have left him alone in the waiting room in December, when I went to chat with Dr. Carlton at the end of the sessions, I did!! He is so much calmer than he was just a few months ago. Dr. Carlton and his team are easy to work with. I am so glad we took this route over medication!! I cannot wait to see the changes that will occur over the next 6-9 months for both boys. I have recently been struck with a lot of hardships in my life that has caused my anxiety level to skyrocket recently that I would just break down and start crying. I heard about neruofeedback from a friend who had started that said it helped her with her depression. I decided to give it a try and It was the best decision I ever made. After getting some pet scans I was recommended to Dr. Carlton by my psychiatrist and thought "oh this isn't going to do much! What is some silly scans and stupid treatment going to help with my brain my depression and anxiety" But after six months of treatment and coming in twice a week. I've learned that this treatment is honestly life changing! The staff here is so kind and understanding and honestly like family after six months. I don't know how they put up with me I was always late and always super depressed when I came in the beginning and sometimes wouldn't even show up to appointments. They would call and make sure everything's OK and help me reschedule after a while I started to feel better and slowly weaned off some medications. And now I'm doing so much better. Waited for a long time... just to get my xray, it took them 25 mins to provide. Finally, the woman that handed me over the CD with the xray did not even look at me and did not even say anything. I was looking for a chiropractor that I could go to on a regular basis for my lower back pain. My former chiro is in Alexandria, and even though I liked the office and the doctor a lot, the dirve from Manassas was awfully long. I got a Groupon to Carlton Chiropractors so I don't invest too much money until I know for sure I want to commit to that office. The Groupon included massage that was scheduled separate from the chropractic exam. Now I get regular massages at Massage Envy, and I have to tell you that while not being the worst, it was definitely a very mediocre experience. The lady performing massage not only failed to release the muscles that I asked her to work on but also couldn't help me achieve that calm and rested state that I have after most massage sessions. It felt like a rubdown you can ask a friend to do for you after a long day. Still better than nothing at all but in no way as restoring and healing as professional massage feels. Now to the chiropractic adjustment. My experience sounded sort of like what Matt H. described two reviews below mine. Not only did I get there on time, I acually allowed for 10 or so minutes extra before my scheduled appointment so I can fill out the paperwork. 30 minutes past my appointment time, I approached the front desk lady, who was polite but not really appologetic. She said it was "any minute" that the doctor will see me. 20 minutes later, which was exactly 50 minutes after my appointment time, the doctor showed up. Again, no appology at this point. When I asked him during the exam if it was something to expect at this office, meaning a delay that long, he offered a generic applogy, which sounded like he didn't mean it and thought I was giving him a hard time for nothing. Since I would have been late for work should I stayed for the adjustment, I had to go before the adjustment could be made. I will not be back both because of the lack of customer service at the place, and the fact that they overbook but also because I didn't like the office. It looked cheap, cramped and dirty, like the worst kind of medical practice in a bad neighborhood. To me going to a chiropractor is a way to boost my wellness, and the office actually made me anxious and negative, which was partially due to what had happened and the actual surroundings of it. All in all, I am not going back and I do not recommend the place. Even after the Groupon, I feel like the experience was a rip off. read more

Their office is located in Manassas, VA and I live in Alexandria, VA which is about a 45 minute drive. I have no problem driving out to them for a simple 15-20 minute appointment because I know this is quality service. The doctors gave me an estimate as to the amount of visits I'd need to correct my issues and they were just about spot on. I now go once a month simply for maintenance. The staff is always friendly and seem to always be in a great mood. I'd definitely recommend Ed and Paola to anyone. read more

Words cannot describe my appreciation for Dr. Carltons Neurofeedback Center. I can't believe that I didn't know about it for so long. I went in for treatments for migraines a few years ago. After I had an x-ray and consultation with Dr. Paola Carlton, I was told I had arthritis in my neck and that she could fix the migraines. At my second adjustment, there was a great deal of pain. I went to see me primary care doctor who sent me to an orthopedist and for an MRI. I did NOT have arthritis in my neck, but I now had two herniated disks that I had not had before the adjustments. I will not go back to this place, nor will I trust another chiropractor again. I'm always amazed when people complain about decisions they made by posting a bad review on a page such as this. I'm referring to the one that says they signed a contract and then were surprised when they didn't get a refund. Really? I credit Dr Ed and Dr Paola with changing my life. I had such pain in my hips and back and Dr Ed explained the root cause while he adjusted me. When he wasn't available, Dr Paola gave a wonderful (and I mean wonderful) back adjustment. Since then, I actually had my misaligned foot fixed and the hip pains are long gone. Sage advice and I'm glad I followed Dr Ed's recommendations. The office is well managed, everyone very very pleasant, and I was always seen swiftly. Dr. Paola even glides into perfect Spanish for her clientele who are not native English speakers. I initially came to this center for chiropractic services but while waiting to be called I saw the neuro feedback posters. I set an appointment with Dr. Carlton and I was intrigued and so I decided to do the treatment.
