Though the first available appointment was quite a few weeks out, it was an easy process and unlike another place I was referred to first, they didn't turn me away once they found out this was related to a car accident (not sure what that was about). It's a small practice, but I didn't have to wait too long in the waiting room or for Dr. Bicksel. He was very nice, listened to my concerns, tested my symptoms and whatnot, and prescribed me a treatment plan that I'm still undergoing. My issues haven't resolved completely yet, but they are improving and I'm definitely glad that I got checked out by Dr. Bicksel. Hopefully I won't NEED to go back (since that would mean my issues won't have gone away, lol), but it's nice to feel confident that I'll be in good hands if I do.

However, I later received an unexpected separate office visit charge in addition to the preventive exam billing. My concern was not the care itself, but the lack of transparency regarding billing. During the wellness visit, the provider briefly reviewed outside lab results I had brought with me, and I was later billed for a separate office visit associated with that discussion. I was not informed during the appointment that this could result in an additional charge. After reviewing my visit documentation, I also felt portions of the note did not fully reflect my understanding of the visit, particularly regarding the extent of evaluation performed beyond the wellness exam. After raising concerns and providing supporting documentation, the office acknowledged overlap between the preventive visit and additional billing and indicated the matter would be reviewed. However, I did not receive a final follow-up or resolution regarding the coding review or reimbursement request. I would encourage the practice to improve communication around preventive visit billing and provide more consistent follow-up during billing disputes.

Dear Dr. Mir and Dr. Zahir, Dr. Mir, thank you for the time yesterday to discuss x's Vitamin D levels, and a few front office concerns. I totally get that there is a demanding job to be done for so many patients, but I wanted to share my experiences shown in the attached of phone calls diverted to text and DAYS to respond where often I'd have to choose between calling again or texting again ... or just moving on with my life to figure my question out for myself, managing two littles, a household, work, teaching, volunteering, etc. I was so sick in September and am deeply grateful for Dr. Zahir's immediate diagnosis of pneumonia, but I had a follow-on concern regarding a prolonged roller-coaster fever that wouldn't break for several days. It was FRUSTRATING to call, get diverted to text then have the texts ignored for days. It was FRUSTRATING to not be able to have a simple question answered - should my daughter and I get our bloodwork taken first before having a follow-up regarding our Vitamin D levels? If yes, could someone submit bloodwork orders? Again, no one picked up the phone, my text was misunderstood, and it took far too much time for me to chase down an answer to this simple question. It was FRUSTRATING that our follow-up appointments were canceled. It was FRUSTRATING that it took so much time to find an alternate dates/times. It is FRUSTRATING to receive four texts in a week to confirm/check-in for any appointment. It was FRUSTRATING to pull my daughter out of class only to have the receptionist tell us not to come in because the appointment was scheduled as virtual. I had planned to be in person because I wanted to have her BP checked after she recently experienced super low BP from a serious flu. It was FRUSTRATING to have her later in our conversation say, "Well, you can come in if you'd like." Because the appointments were now pushed back to 3:15 and 3:30, I would have been late to pick up my son at his school just down the street from your office as I had originally planned. It was FRUSTRATING to receive a demand call ten minutes before our follow-up appointment on February 27, shaking me down for payment after the FIRST AND ONLY bill was emailed on February 11 that, if not paid, we could not keep the appointment with you. It was FRUSTRATING that she didn't explain upfront: x amount is for x service on x date for x person. She whizzed through the balance due without explaining these details until I finally said, "Hold on. Why haven't I received a bill until now for appointments in September and October?" to which the response was, "We emailed you a bill on February 11." It was FRUSTRATING that I have concerns about my own health but didn't have time (or demeanor) to have a focused conversation with you yesterday. Hopefully I'll find time soon to go through the process of calling, texting, waiting then needless back and forth to set an appointment. May I respectfully suggest going through patients' calls and texts, observe how patients are treated, and perhaps it will become apparent that simply picking up the phone to talk with patients, not forcing patients to text their concerns, clearly responding to them within a reasonable time frame, and, most of all, have a CARING attitude will make a significant difference. As healers, you and your husband know as Maya Angelou said, Patients "will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel."

I was able to get an appointment for a standard physical the very next day! I was delighted that they took me back ON TIME, moved through standard take-in procedures in a timely fashion, and I had a great visit with Dr. Zahir. I can tell already why he makes lists of "the greatest" in the region. Other pluses? Super easy parking and on-site bloodwork! All the staff were also very friendly and professional. I explained to the doctor that I have had Cortisone injections for my shoulder issue before and they have no effect on the problem. The doctor knew better and decided I needed a Cortisone injection. I feel like she is really listening to concerns by taking her time and answering all my questions thoroughly. I never felt rushed during the appointment. She up to date on the latest women's health care issues which is very important to me. I don't feel dismissed like I do with many physicians, especially male physicians. The practice is very good about prescription refills, making and rescheduling appointments, etc. The entire staff is friendly and professional. The lab is a separate entity from the practice. I lost 17 pounds not quickly, but fairly easily with his guidance. Most stuff can be handled via email so I don't need to take off work. Highly responsive. Not a pill pusher, but highly respects my ability to make choices for my body even if it isn't the choice he would make. Financially I was able to pair his fee with a slightly higher deductible plan at work. The combination of the two was actually less than what I was paying working for a school system and I get significantly better care.

He is a very caring PCP, but I think where he lacks is experience. In all honesty, if you get a cold, or a cut, he is amazing. But if you get a bout of meningitis or another illness which is chronic in nature - i would stay away until his practice matures. I have total faith, it will. He's definitely not a 1 star doc and he is trying his best to be a 5 star. To me, Dr. Joffee is a 2 star only because I have seen better, thats all. In my opinion, to most he is probably a 3-4 stars.
