My new car, Don and I.
    Vicente M.

I came in to CarMax today to purchase my very first car. A 2021 Nissan Sentra. I have been reluctant to purchase a new vehicle because of the commitment it takes. But I have finally decided to take the leap. I went to three different dealerships before I came to carmax and I must say that the experience that I have had here helped earn them my business. At the other dealerships there was a lot of back and forth and honestly I just don't have the time. Every single person here greeted me with a smile and was polite to me. I set an appointment with carmax and was seen after ten minutes of waiting. Every department seemed fairly busy and there were a few walk in's. They sat me with Don Philips who is a complete professional. He was patient with me and didn't pressure me into purchasing any extra features. I can describe the experience as going into footlocker and buying a pair of sneakers. I came into carmax, Don came out, I asked him for a Nissan I seen online, he showed me the car. The car was the same price as promised plus the taxes and $80 service fee. The taxes hurt but I guess we can't do anything about that. Overall I stood within my budget and walked away with a new car and some financial knowledge. I drove here in my old Corolla which that took off my hands. I don't have the time to sale old car so that gave me peace of mind. I was there a little over three hours, but things would have moved little faster but i lost about a half hour trying to get my approval letter from the bank off the website provided to me. But like I said Don was extremely patient. And extremely busy I might add. He had a separate set of customers waiting for his services but was able to manage it all very well. Thank you Don and everyone at carmax for making this experience fun for me.

This is the 2nd vehicle I have bought from CARMAX. The first lasted about 8 years until it died end of September this year. Attempted searching for a decent reliable used vehicle on FB, Craigslist & word of mouth. A majority of the ads were fake or the sellers flaky. If it was a decent vehicle it was literally gone in 60 secs., CARMAX actually has a pretty neat system on searching the stock available & checking to see if you prequalify for a car loan. They work with a lot of finance companies & can have you driving out the door. This particular location sales floor was very clean, air conditioned & smelled great. The staff & sales people were nice. Their system is actually quite impressive from sales, waiting rooms & the closing out the deal. I was helped by Sal R. & had me driving off the lot in a SUV nicer then the one I went to see. He then brought me to Jennifer who helped with the final details like DMV paperwork & the warranties. Sal was good about checking in on me while the vehicle was getting ready to debut the world as my new used vehicle. I would say it was a long day but easy process!

Hello this is carfax----the car you didn't see or get to drive is now suddenly AVAILABLE

For anyone thinking of buying a used car, I would NOT recommend CarMax. Yes, their sales point is that you pay a fair price and prices are non negotiable because they are ALREADY FAIRLY PRICED. But what does that mean for you?? Let me explain: Long, long wait times even when you've requested an appointment. I waited over 2 hours with a scheduled appt at 11am. Still no one was available ,so I left to a dealer across the street. I was seen IMMEDIATELY at the Subaru dealer. Test drove right away!!!! Yes. You pay a commission fee but it's worth it, to get the process going with the purchase of a vehicle especially since I done have one right now. NOW, carfax is messaging me daily "Hi, this is CarMax. We're preparing for your appointment. To save time during your visit, you may want to consider an express pickup, which means we'll prepare the car and paperwork so it's ready when you arrive. Is now a good time to talk or text?" What car?? What paperwork?????? These are just lies. I'd rather go to a dealer and give them the commission but get taken care of the same day. And stop messaging me!!!!

Came here today to sell my old 2015 Mitsubishi mirage. We've been having trouble with it (check engine light on) and had already bought a replacement vehicle late last year, so we decided it was time to move on and part ways. After some research, we decided that selling was probably our best option. Due to the repairs needed, we did not want to sell privately, so we opted for carmax. I had an appointment for 11 am and we walked in and were seen right away after checking in at the front counter. The guy who took my key to complete the appraisal said it would be about 25-30 min. We waited in one of the waiting rooms where they gave vending machines and coffee, as well as outlets. After the appraisal was done, we walked over to the business office to review the offer. We felt like we were getting a very fair price and decided to go ahead and sell. The person at that counter said it would be about a 45 min wait and about 15 min to complete the offer. We were there a total of about 2 hours and walked out with a check in hand. It was a very easy and transparent process all the way through. Everyone who attended us provided great customer service.

Not sure what some reviewers are complaining about. I had most of my information figured/sorted out by the time I stopped in to test drive my new car. My experience at the dealership went something like this: I had been looking at cars online for maybe about over a week and I found my ideal car at a different Carmax in San Diego county. It had all the features I liked and I was able to reserve the car and ship it (free) to this location. After I confirmed my shipping order, I began to receive text messages to let me know when the car left San Diego (Thursday), when it got to Buena Park (Friday) and when I'd like to set up a test drive appointment (Saturday). I was also given a heads up ahead of time to make sure to print out my proof of insurance so I could actually drive my reserved car off the lot. The updates I received were frequent and very thorough as well as concise, straight to the point, professional and polite. On the day of the test drive, I got there at store opening (9am) and was greeted warmly. Check in took only a minute because I had confirmed my appointment beforehand and a couple of minutes later I met my salesman Christopher Schuchman. I ended up test driving the car shortly thereafter and after that began to talk numbers. Chris was personable, he was patient with any questions I had, he broke down all the financing numbers/plans as simple as possible and he made my car purchasing experience pretty simple and straightforward. He helped me find the best deal for me. The transaction only took a few hours (and compared to the last two cars I bought) was two hours shorter. Signing the final paperwork was quite a breeze and I drove off the lot with my new car right a little after noon. If you are unprepared and lack patience in understanding how long an auto vehicle transaction may truly take, then I would recommend going somewhere else. However if you come in prepared having done your research and communicated with the dealership prior to your in person arrival, then the process goes off without a hitch. All in all though, I would definitely recommend shopping for a car here at Carmax Buena Park. My car buying experience was positive, swift and the customer service in my case was exemplary. 5 out of 5 stars. (Only downside was you don't get to keep the yellow CarMax bow lol )

Out of all the service advisors I've encountered across Mercedes-Benz dealerships, he stands out as the most honest, detail-oriented, and consistent. He takes the time to answer every question thoroughly and keeps me updated throughout the entire process--which, in my experience, is not always the standard elsewhere. That level of transparency and communication is something I really value. The rest of the team is equally professional and welcoming! It's clear the department is well run. Car service is never something you look forward to, but Miguel makes it as seamless and stress-free as possible--which says a lot.

I understand I don't look like the regular customer there but that shouldn't matter. I couldn't get one salesman to help me, not a single one. I shouldn't have to show them photos of my house or my 4 other cars to be taken seriously. Years ago my grandfather (Ignacio Bruno) showed up after work in his uniform to buy a car for grandma. They laughed at him and asked what he possibly wanted (referring to his dirty uniform, ignorant to the fact he owned the company he had patched on his shoulders.) He laughed and walked across the lot to the Jaguar dealership and bought TWO cars cash on the spot (gramps only dealt in $100s). He and my dad drove them to the HOI and told the salesmen they should have taken him seriously. Thought maybe they learned a lesson. Apparently not. I stopped going there a year ago. Today I get very rude, very snide texts from the House of Imports because I didn't want the unnecessary appointment they were trying to make for me. Not a good look....maybe it's time for a Jaguar?

Be wary of buying a vehicle from this dealership. I originally spoke with Patrick over the phone…read moreabout a new RAV4 I saw online, but unfortunately, it was already unavailable. Patrick offered me an alternative, but it was the wrong color and packed with overpriced dealer extras I didn't want (including door edge guards). After I explained my preferences, he sent me a link to a perfect option arriving in about a month. I was elated and ready to drive 45 minutes just to put down a deposit. Then came the official quote. The base selling price--before any taxes or fees--was even higher than the over-accessorized alternative he had first pitched. When I told him I wasn't interested, Patrick actually tells me that the total was higher because of taxes and fees... as if I didn't know how buying a car works. This isn't my first vehicle; I am fully aware that taxes and registration are standard. The real issue was that they added over $1,500 in unwanted dealer add-ons (including "elite door cups/edge guards") into the pre-tax price. Patrick claims these extras are standard. So had I agreed to purchase the alternative vehicle that was being sold with edge guards, I'd also be acquiring "elite door cups"? Patrick then tried to justify the markup because RAV4s are so popular and "pre-sold before they even reach the lot." To me, it just felt like they were exploiting Toyota's high demand to take advantage of customers. I chose AutoNation specifically because of their "haggle-free" reputation. I didn't want to play games; I just wanted to pay a fair, transparent price. In fact, if that first alternative vehicle had been the right color, I would have bought it without a fight. I wasn't looking for discounts or freebies--just honesty. Dealing with Patrick at Autonation has reminded me just how annoying car buying can be. Do your research before coming here. Plenty of other dealerships have access to the exact same inventory without forcing you to pay for extras you don't want or need.

We spent over 4 hours at the dealership going through the process, discussing pricing, finalizing monthly payments, agreeing on the final numbers including GAP insurance, and even completing/signing the credit application. Only AFTER all of that, when we were finally sitting in the finance office ready to sign the paperwork, the finance manager suddenly informed us that they could not sell GAP insurance on the vehicle because it was a lemon-law buyback. We made it very clear that we were not comfortable proceeding without GAP coverage. Instead of resolving the issue properly, the finance manager tried to sell us a different warranty/insurance product but openly admitted he could not confirm whether it would actually protect us the same way. He then spoke with the sales manager and came back saying the manager "THINKS" it should work -- but nobody could actually confirm it. Even worse, the sales manager either could not or would not simply call the GAP company directly to verify coverage before asking us to move forward. That is completely unacceptable. Do not spend hours negotiating and signing paperwork here only to have major financing details changed at the very end. This felt like a classic bait-and-switch tactic and a complete waste of our time. Buyers beware.
