I have tried calling and dealing with them as there was a warrantee to cover it. No ever calls me back. Because I can't be there and be their face they think they don't have to pay for it. My experience with the Lithia Springs Carmax (and Carmax in general) was nothing short of a nightmare. The car was delivered late, and somehow THEY LOST THE TITLE of the car during the shipping so I couldn't buy. Shockingly their response was "this happens sometimes". I've never witnessed such incompetency and poor customer service in my life. It was like they wanted to lose my business. I talked to 6 different people at the location, there was never a consistent representative to help me out. I would have to explain the situation each time, and never received updates as they were looking despite my constant requests. As a result I had to book a flight instead of my planned roadtrip... not ideal during COVID! I was finally contacted a few weeks later asking if I was still interested in the car..... sorry Carmax you lost me weeks ago- and if anyone is reading this I recommend you go to a local dealership. i selected a car online and paid to have it transferred and delivered "to my door". i sent all the necessary and ACCURATE information required for purchasing a car. the confirmation email said everything was ready and kept me up to date about the transfer of the car and when the "inspection" should be finished. i waited two weeks after the specified date and ended up calling to see what was going on. the first time, a representative said it was getting ready to be shipped to [a location an HOUR away from where i lived.] i told them that wasn't right. it needed to be delivered. she said she updated it. i waited another week and called again and they said it was being shipped to the location 15 mins from me and again i had to specify a home delivery. for whatever reason, they said it couldn't be delivered so i settled for the 15 min away location. i called another week later, i had to call, yet again and a person told me the car had been ready but that my delivery was canceled and i needed to come in so that they could verify my ss card. ridiculous because i recieved no email or calls about it. i had to go to the location that was an hour away for this. they said the only thing i needed to do was provide the ss card to be verified. so i went with the downpayment amount plus $100 extra "just in case". while in person, they never even asked for my ss card. and the amount of the downpayment was $200 more than what i was told over the phone. i ended up choosing a different car cus i had already been at the place for 3 hours. even getting the other car, they still never asked for the ss card. i've had this new car one week and the dashboard lights are coming up, a light has gone out and i already need to get it serviced...it shouldve been serviced before it was sold! read more

I found the car on line, did the three hours of paperwork, supplied enough references to withstand a congressional hearing all for nothing. I was contacted several times from someone named Johnathan always needing more and more paperwork. To make a long , ugly story short, avoid these people at all cost. We had a good transaction here. The salesman Jarell helped us and he was very nice and knowledgeable about the car we got which was a RAV4. He took time to answer questions we had. It may have been easier for us because we looked at a lot of cars online already and asked for it to be shipped there, but he did show us one other car and he was very helpful with that. I think at CarMax it may be good to research what you want to see before showing up at the car lot. In all I thought they were very professional from the greeting at the door to the managers approvals. They made the whole transaction seamless. I see bad reviews here but I guess that's typical of car buying. For us it was just fine. This is my second purchase from CarMax and both experiences were just fine. read more

Good experience in getting my purchase done and driving off with my car. Two things that I have, one and this is new to me that credit cards are not accepted for a down payment. You have to use a debit card or check. Another was after the purchase I have tried three times in sending an email to my car salesman, and he had not responded. I was asking him to print out a copy of the Carfax for my records as I like to keep a record of all work done on my cars. He has not responded and not even sent a reply to state whether he would or would not help me out. Not even a simple NO, talk about forgetting your customer do quickly! Appraisals are low. Don't let them estimate your payout. Don't get a loan from CarMax. They pushed the sale over trying to understand my needs. The estimated payout amount was different from the actual payout amount to my lien holder - the CarMax estimation had an overage. Instead of paying the estimated payout, they called the lien holder to get the payout amount and then paid a DIFFERENT amount than the estimation on the Bill of Sale. So this means that what's on the paperwork is not what CarMax paid to my lien holder. This effectively increases my principle borrowed (increased monthly bill) and pigeon-holed me into a higher interest rate. They are holding the overage until they receive the title from my lien holder, but that money was never used to pay out my car IT WAS OVERAGE. Either apply that credit to my balance immediately or send me my refund. It isn't YOUR money. I will never purchase another car from CarMax again. Buyers beware of their finance department and don't expect the cars to be in good condition. Look in the reviews for a good sales rep. My sales rep Carolina Jones didn't seem to know what was good or bad - simply everything was GREAT AND AWESOME. GREAT INTEREST RATES, GREAT APPRAISAL. I should've asked for another Sales rep when I noticed the irrational happy hysteria. Also they couldn't fit my address as it exceeded their character limit. I have incorrect addresses all over my paperwork. I've inspected the car, and I noticed there is a 3/4" difference in diameter between front/rear tires. Subaru's 4wd system tolerates less than 1/4" difference. I would've preferred if they kept the old rear tires instead of replacing it with new UNMATCHING tires with the front. Don't assume CarMax sells good condition or "well-maintained" used cars. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! They do not care about you, they will lie and treat you like absolute GARBAGE. Got my jeep from them back in August 2020. I Was pre-approved online the shipped the car from Columbia, SC. The car was late, and no one ever called to tell me it was here. When I finally came to pick it up, the informed me the title had been sent to Tennessee (I stay in Georgia) so I had to leave with nothing. Came back the next day to pick it up. I had to do the WHOLE application process over again.. No one could tell me why. The car was finally given to me, it had Mold growing on the floor seat of the passenger side, The rear differential was leaking, the alignment was off. Have not been able to get help since. No retuned phone calls. When I did I was left on hold by Mia for over and hour TWICE!! Then when I came to speak to them in person about helping me, they couldn't do anything for me. When I asked Mia why I was put on hold twice I got the NASTIEST, MOST DISRESPECTFUL ATTITUDE. Glad to see you guys just hire whoever walks through the door with an application. I will NEVER do business with ANY CarMax again, and I will be posting the recording of her nasty ass attitude ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA. This is a true story. I went into the Lithia Springs store in July 2021 with my grandson as he was purchasing his first car. He was already approved by his credit union. We requested delivery. Carmax advertises delivery as their business model. First, he was told that they cannot set up delivery until he has the check from his credit union in his hand. He physically secured the check. Then he was told they could not deliver unless his downpayment was made from a certain bank. The salesperson said that he didn't know which banks Carmax accepted and neither did the business office. He said that my grandson would just have to submit he information and they would see if it would be accepted. Then he was told that they could not deliver unless he had car insurance. Finally, he was told that they could not deliver because the team of people delivering his car would not be allowed to accept the check from his credit union and he would have to come into the store to give them the check and then he could drive the car home himself. Imagine that! I told him that we asked for home delivery from the first day we met with him and that if we had known that Carmax would not deliver, we have gone to Caravan. He said that they operate their business the same way as Carmax. I don't know if all of the Carmax stores are this inefficient or if it's just the Carmax on Thornton Road, but I certainly don't recommend dealing with them if you need your car delivered. It is my sincere belief that if you request delivery, you must have your reasons. And since they falsely advertise delivery they should try to uphold their end. Apparently, the business model they advertise is fake news! They side-stepped delivery completely. This transaction started in July 2021 and carried on until August 15th. read more

When I went to a Kia dealership they tell me that VIN number is not a car that they have registered in the US. No recall can be sent to me because it's not a Kia American car. Between my wife, my daughters and my mother we have bought 5 cars from Carmax. It has not always been smooth, but nothing much out of the ordinary. This time was nasty. I am in metro Atlanta Market and I requested on Saturday, July 2, that a car be shipped from a metro Atlanta Carmax location to one closer to my home. On Sunday I got a text saying my car is "on the move" to the requested location. On Tuesday, I was told the car is at the location and should be available on Thursday. I made all my business arrangements, including overseas travel, based on a Thursday pick up. I also got at text saying I can have an "express pick up" if I finish buying online. On Wednesday (today) I called to confirm a Thursday pick up and in essence they said, it's not ready. I tried to explain my circumstances to the representative at the call center, I got the same answer. I tried to reach out to the specific location but I was routed to the call center again. I was put on hold agent (maybe Clarissa). After about fifteen minutes it then it started dialing. No one answered. I called again and agent introduced himself as Mark. Again I tried to explain. Before i could complete my sentence, he put me on hold. I was on hold for about 35 minutes. He came back and said the car was not ready. I attempted to ask a question and he again said, "Thanks for your patience and he put me on hold". He came back some time later and I told him i knew he was just putting me on hold for a long time, hoping I would give up. I thank him for his assistance and I hung up. This was not what I expected from Carmax. I am extremely disappointed. read more

I purchased a 2013 Maxima from CarMax and I must say it is a great car and the buying experience was fantastic. CarMax employees at this location made it a very easy and stress free experience. My only complaint with CarMax, in general and not limited to this location, is that they need to spend more time and energy in detailing their cars. When viewing cars online it's so easy to determine that the car has not been carefully washed or vacuumed. Unvacuumed interiors, mud and grime in the bed of pickup trucks, etc. a customer needs to see a clean car when spending money. Since your prices are non negotiable then customers should expect to see a clean car or truck when a $40k price tag is attached to the vehicle. You have to do the same thing dealerships like Nissan and Toyota are doing. Clean the cars and don't cut corners I've had family members and friends experience the same thing. Dirty interiors. Your detailing crew needs to spend more time on the cars before they are available to customers.. Other than having filthy cars, CarMax is great. read more

My husband and I were car shopping, and this location was the first place we went to. I had come here years ago to look for a car, but I never found anything I liked and the salesman wasn't very helpful in making some suggestions for what I was looking for (I didn't know anything about cars at that time). The experience was kind of neutral, so I thought I'd give it another try this time. There were no other customers to be seen, and one of the salespeople said (as his colleague looked us up and down as if we were hobos walking into the Ritz-Carlton), "We have a really long waiting list so just walk around the lot and see if you like anything." He didn't even ask for our names to be added onto this "waiting list". After looking around the lot, the salesman was still in the same spot we left him in, laughing and talking to his colleague. Although we would've liked to have someone there showing us a few things or asking us what we were looking for and making some suggestions, we were so turned off by how we were treated, we just walked out the door. As we did so, the salesman asked, "Did you see anything you liked?" My husband replied, "Yes, there were a few, but you look too busy to help us." The salesman said, "Well next time, you can make an appointment." I'm not usually a vindictive person, but by that evening, I wish they would have known that we ended up purchasing a $27,000 car at the dealership right next door. read more

I've been a fan of CarMax for years. I bought my last car from them 4 years ago, so when I was ready for a change that's where I went without question... The website is fantastic - I found a car that I loved the look, description, price point of, but it was located in TN. So I paid the fee to have it shipped to a the Lithia Springs location. I was told at the time, that if the car didn't meet the specs promised, that the money would be reimbursed. Long story short, I bought the car. The day that I was buying it, I asked about test driving it first & my sales guy (who I trusted & liked very much) said I would have 5 days to bring it back - that really driving it for those few days would show me more than any test drive. Made sense to me. When I drove the car off the lot, there was a dash indicator light on. I called him immediately, (he was aware - had forgotten to mention it) explaining it was likely just a tire pressure issue. I said I was coming right back for their service dept to deal w it. They did - apparently the levels were off in two of the tires, and when the light didn't go off right away, I was told it would most likely re-set once driven a bit. It didn't - so I scheduled a service appt (which couldn't happen for a few days from then). Over these few days I noticed a vibration & hum that didn't sound or feel right, so while they we're fixing what we assumed was a tire sensor issue, they looked into that also. They could not locate that vibration issue (supposedly couldn't duplicate the sound) but found a nail in a tire. They replaced all 4 tires which restored some faith, but it took a few more days since tires needed to be ordered. (Note: For all the time that has passed, my 5 day "trial" period is not beginning until the issues are fixed - agreed to by the sales manager). When I picked the car up, I had to be in Birmingham that day for a job, so Randy, my service contact, found me a dealer (in BH) that could give a second opinion on the vibration issue that persisted. I took the car into the Subaru dealer in Birmingham where they found & fixed the issue (an axle bearing). They also did an all points inspection, finding excessive rust underneath! The car had originated in Ohio, a "salt state", and I was advised by the service manager there to make SURE that the extended warranty that I purchased thru CarMax would cover supplemental issues or to NOT BUY THE CAR. I immediately reached out to the CarMax sales manager. He was going to reach out to the service dept (& Subaru?) to find out what would be covered in this case, or if anything could be done and he would get back to me. (We reiterated that my 5 days had not started because all of this was not resolved). I never heard from him again. It's been two weeks, I've called, unable to reach a sales manager or get a call back, and the title was sent via FedEx to me. So they just blew it off! This is not acceptable and I'm sure is not to the service standard that CarMax stands for. Stay away from this CarMax location. read more

I fell in love with a highlander that was at a separate location in Oklahoma. An associate at Lithia Springs, Romello, confirmed with the location several times to ensure me there was not a smoke smell. Excited that my dream car was exactly the car I wanted, I coughed up $600 for the transfer fee. Here's where it turns..... Upon the car's arrival to Lithia Springs, Romello whips the beauty around and I'm grinning ear to ear. Then, with one opening of a door, the strong smoke odor hits you in the face like a ton of bricks. I was devastated. Romello even claimed to have smelt the smell himself. When he goes to get his manager, Romello comes back and claims there isn't a smell. And the manager, who had NOT been in the car yet says "Ms. Samantha, there is no odor." After back and forth arguments, the water works were pouring at this point because I realized they were crushing my dreams and stealing my money like the unethical savages they are. We talked to the corporate offices to see if there was anything that could be done to get my money back. They called the manager, and the manager again lies and says there is no odor, so corporate said there was nothing they could do. To this day, I have not seen a penny back of my beloved $600 I so hardly saved for my first big purchase. Carmax used to be something I recommended to everyone, but NOT anymore. Had a car transferred there from another location and brought all necessary paperwork to identify car. They brought out the wrong car for the test drive- twice! The test drive route is congested, curvy, and you can never accelerate over 35 mph. Check the carfax for any car you're considering, many of their cars are from snowy or ocean shore climates where cars are prone to rust. Also, get financing from a credit union prior to going, the lowest interest rate they will give you is 6 percent, and you may qualify for better. read more

They were with me every step of this car buying journey and had answers to every question I had. The worst experience I have ever had. I selected a 2016 Nissan Altima SL. The Disclaimer said no major dent or dings and a deep cleaned interior. It had dings dings every where at least five, the interior had deep scratches and smelt like cigarettes. The engine had a rough vibrating idle. I took it back after five days. They said my trade was headed to their Norcross location to be auctioned off. My lien holder hasn't been paid the funds to release the title and they asked me for $1400 to return the Altima after gave a deposit $1285.25. $1400??when I have negative balance $1100. While my purchase experience with Ralph was exceptional, the interaction I've had with this CarMax location since driving off the lot has been disappointing to say the least. I purchased an Audi A5 on 5/19/2019. The car low oil light indicator came on after about a month. I thought it might need an oil change, so I took it to Jiffy Lube and got one. A week later, the low oil light indicator came on again, so I added a quart of oil thinking that maybe Jiffy Lube hadn't topped off the oil when they did the oil change. The oil light indicator came on several other times (about once a week) for the next several weeks, and each time I added a quart of oil. Jiffy Lube told me that there definitely wasn't an external oil leak, but I probably should have it looked at. So, I took it to my regular mechanic who specializes in working on Audis. After his evaluation and my spending almost $540, I was advised that there was an internal oil leak. He wrote a letter explaining the results of his inspection. I immediately took the vehicle to CarMax - this was on 7/23. CarMax indicated that they didn't have an immediate appointment available for service and advised me to take the car to an Audi dealership for evaluation. On 7/26 I dropped the car off to Audi of Marietta. After a couple days Audi called me to share that there was, in fact, an internal oil leak and the car would require piston reseal. They informed CarMax of the same. When I contacted CarMax again, they told me to bring the car in for evaluation. I thought this was odd since Audi, the manufacturer of the car, provided a diagnosis. This was on 7/31. CarMax kept the car a couple of days and indicated they would evaluate the problems themselves. When they called me back to pickup the vehicle, they told me to drive it 500 miles and bring it back. This was frustrating because the dealership had already identified what the problem was. Needless to say, after a couple days the oil level began to drop again. On 8/5 I contacted my service representative and expressed my extreme concern and asked to speak to a member of leadership. She shared that the GM was in the dealership and she'd have him call me, but he never called. I called again - twice - on 8/6 and was told that my messages had been hand delivered to the GM, so I was extremely frustrated because I felt like a call back to me wasn't a priority. I called again this morning and left another message for the GM. As of now, I still haven't received a call back. I'm very frustrated because the Audi dealership identified the problem, but CarMax wants to go back and do their own evaluation, as if they would find something different. I don't know what to do at this point. I'd really just like another car. AND my 90-day warranty expires in 9 days and I'm fearful that they're going to come back and tell me that the car is now out of warranty and they can't help me! What should I do!!!???? read more

Sub-mediocre associates with very little product knowledge and lack of service delivery. As I drove away with my "car max quality" vehicle, I noticed they forgot to put in floor mats and the sound system was not working properly. They immediately gave me low grade car mats, and I had to schedule a time to bring the car back for their lack of attention to detail. Their limited service hours did not match up to my busy work schedule. Had to schedule out 4 months later just to have an appointment. When I asked about the CarMax guarantee, they told me they would still honor it months later due to scheduling. Upon arrival, they demanded I pay a service fee. This "bait and switch" tactic angered me, and I was not afraid to express my dis-satisfaction. Their response to rectify the situation was to BAN me from receiving any services from the local CarMax stores. Attempting to appeal, their "so called" Service Managers would refuse to answer or return phone calls. I use that title loosely due to a lack of service and leadership. things should know before doing business with carmax 1- once you sign a contract, you can not legally sue carmax if anything goes wrong. you must pay out of pocket for an arbitrator. the cost is not refundable even if you win. 2- carmax does not take ownership of their "mistakes". the general manager nor the customer service escalation team will not help if something goes wrong. 3- read online complaints via the better business bureau, yelp, google, and others before doing business with carmax. carmax deletes negative coments from twitter and facebook. 4- carmax is a national brand with "buy here pay here" policies. they don't care about customers after the sale because they know you have no legal recourse in a court of law. 5- carmax does not test drive vehicles before they sell to you. major defects may not be discovered prior to delivery to you. they sold me a 2019 lemon with low miles with major transmission/engine problems. 6- carmax does not take your car as a trade. they will only buy your car and apply the value to a car you purchase. all trades/sells are final upon signing regardless of whether the vehicle they sell to you works or not. 7- you can not get your car back if something goes wrong. 8- the state of georgia offers a substantial tax credit (about 40%) when you trade your car to a dealer. if you trade your carmax and the sales falls through for any reason, you must buy another car from carmax or risk losing your tax credit. this is very risky because of low vehicle inventory across the country. 9- do not sign a contract without taking it home and reading it in detail. insist on the 3 day test drive before signing buyers contract read more

I came in with my mom car shopping and there was a wait to even be helped, then when someone did come over they were as good as not helping. They couldn't answer any questions, didn't know anything. It's like where do they get these alleged salespeople? They suck. Suppose a buyer doesn't have internet but want a car, you should still be helpful or what is the point? They should be equipped with tools to know what they have on their lot whether you pre-shop online or just walk-in. Bought a 2013 Maxima from the Carmax on Thornton Road. Worked with Lashell and had a great experience. No issues at all. I read about the negative experiences with the MaxCare warrantyand decided to investigate hat a bit A good friend of mines is a Nissan Service Manager in the Atlanta area so I spoke with him concerning MaxCare He Informed me that he saw no issues at his dealership with the warranty. Further he IndicAted that they had a great relationship with MaxCare. I then had him look the car over and find issues. The tech found none except for the car battery being too small(cold cranking amps) for the car. I had no issues. But others have. I would recommend checking with the auto shop/dealership you plan on taking the car to to see if MaxCare is honored, any issues with them, etc before buying your car. My service manager told me its best to have one dealership service your car so all the receipts for maintenance are easily accessible for the MaxCare inspector when they come to verify the repairs needed. CarMax in Lithia Springs was a joke, I applied on line got pre approved went into the store next day to look at other options since the vehicle I got approved for was no longer available. My sale Rep Tessia was helpful at the beginning... Matthew was helpful and very knowledgeable with what few cars they had available. Finally found something I was interested in I was disappointed I had to fill out another application and have my credit ran AGAIN. Tessia ran my application was approved for the car which was a 2016 Mazda touring C5. She told me my application came back FBS eligible meaning that I did not have to provide any documents as far as check stubs. Her manager calls her over to him their talking she comes back to desk and ask me can I provide check stubs she just wants to verify I've been employed longer then 6months. Next morning is when CarMax lost me I spoke with Tessia again she ask if I had check stub I said yes told her I will bring it in with me she said NO I had to log into my payroll portal & print my check stub off from computer @ CarMax store cause they had issues with fraud. Guess she meaning people bringing in fake check stubs. Like I told her I have to much to lose. I already gave her my employer information to verify. I wouldn't even came to car lot if I couldn't afford my car/payments. Then once again she had to talk with her manager who told her I didn't need to bring them just email it Lol. At that point they had lost me as a customer after I read their reviews. I went to Carl Black next day customer service was great oh and they didn't require anything except my DL & down payment I was happy I weighed my options and my car is newer less miles and less money less headache. So thank you Tessia and your manager. My sale rep at Carl black told me CarMax is for people with credit issues I have good credit and good money to put down.
