I called Garrett to remove a broken down car a friend left in my driveway. He was very nice and helpful, gave me a fair quote and showed up exactly when he said. I was very impressed watching him work. He jumped in letting the car roll backwards out of the driveway on to the street on a slight hill then it starts rolling forward straight on the the flatbed where it stopped exactly where he needed it to. It took about 10 seconds for him to load that car by himself. I told him that maneuver was the most impressive thing I've seen in a long time and realized he set that all up when he parked. I want to start with the most important bit first. Garret - the man who answered the phone and to my great surprise, the same man who ended up picking up my car - is possibly the nicest guy in the universe. He's soft-spoken, direct but patient and to the point. He wasn't just able to make an appointment that day but in the next couple of hours! Now, obviously, your mileage may vary - I can't guarantee that you won't be calling on the busiest day of his life. Still, I was impressed by how flexible he was. It was nice that it was easy to set up - a welcome change of pace from some of the roadblocks life had been throwing up (i.e. a broken down automobile). When he pulled up, it was clear he had a professional setup for towing a car - definitely not a fly-by-night operation. As to the price my car fetched, I have no idea if it was a good deal or not. (Update: after sharing my experience with my friends, it seems my deal was at least as good as could be expected). I'm going to be honest, if you are expecting to make big bucks off of selling broken down cars to people who are towing it away for free, you are probably setting yourself up for disappointment. I wasn't interested in fixing it or trying to sell it, as much as I dearly loved that car. I was just trying to get the car off of my mechanic's property, dispose of my car in a legal manner and get some cash for it. For that purpose, his service fit the bill very nicely. Hopefully, I don't have to junk too many cars in the future but if I somehow find myself in a similar situation, Atlanta Auto Recycling will be the first place I call. I called them at 9:45a after being stood up by another company who set an appointment with me and then refused to answer the phone. I got in touch with someone on the first try- and they were even kind an accommodating when I had to give them a change of address last minute. They sent the ETA and even arrived a few minutes early.
