I wish I read the reviews before buying a car from here. We had our car for 5 months and the engine is blown. The "warranty" won't cover it bc I should have had "5 oil changes" in that time.... seriously? So now I'm stuck paying for a piece of trash metal sitting in my driveway. Thanks A Lot! Was my first time buying a car from carmax. Placed the truck on hold which is awesome cause it was a great deal and new I couldn't get there till after work. did a test drive while they apprised my car. Came back the price was what was online, which I was really happy with since some dealers do this to get you in. Everything went well till the computers went offline. Thar was the only bad thing I have to say about it. Was in and out of the dealer in 2.5 hours with financing. When I walked in it seems a little intimidating but after going through the experience I would definitely buy again from here. My salesman was Greg and was very happy with his service. read more

Hello, I bought my car about a month ago from a sale person named Jay. He created such a great experience and helped me be less nervous about such a huge commitment. His level of customer service was something every company hopes for in their employees. He made me feel confident and informed on my purchase of a used car. I made the poor guy go out in the freezing cold and clean off the car just for a test drive. He didn't even know he would walk out with that sale that night but he told me he would clean off as many cars as I wanted because it was his job to make his customers happy. Great Service. I needed an oil change and CarMax was suggested. They are fast, efficient, and they even washed my car. Service Dept office staff showed us to the immaculate waiting room and offered drinks; when they would pass by they would ask if we needed anything. There isn't any issues with the no hassle pricing. I got along with the person who was dealing with our purchase but when it came to knowing about services the associate didn't know what she was talking about and did only tell us what we wanted to hear to sell the vehicle (this is car salesman BS). When asking about putting in a Navigation system which was not in the vehicle because I wanted this in the vehicle if I was going to purchase it we were told that the system that Carmax places in the vehicle is the same as the factory system and it would take up to 7 days because they send the vehicle to the dealership to have the system placed. This was all false. It took 2 days at the Carmax dealership and the system looked nothing like the factory system. If I had known this I would not have added the navigation system to my vehicle which cost an extra $1200.00. I am now having issues with 2 of my speakers cutting in and out at times which is most likely due to the navigation system they placed. I will never purchase a vehicle from Carmax again. So about a month ago i decided to buy my first car. The guy that helped me find my first car, a 2009 Volkswaggen Passat, was very nice and helpful. At first i loved my car and i was so happy. A few weeks after having it, i noticed it was leaking oil. I decided to bring it back to carmax for them to look at it because that is not right. When i first brought it they were so nice telling me they were gonna put me in a rental and fix everything for me. Later i find out they cant put me in a rental. So i just leave my car there anyways to get it looked at. Its been getting worked on for a week now and everyday i get a phone call saying there's more problems with it. They will be happy to take your money when you buy a car. They will be very polite in pushing the useless warranty on you. They are even more gleeful to tell you that any problem you have with the lemons they sell will NOT be covered by their sham of a warranty. They lead you to believe that you just have a 50.00 deductible for repairs done through them. Big lie! They charge 70.00 just to run diagnostics brakes, that 70.00 will not be applied to repair work. They charge 70.00 just to look at an alternator! My non Carmax mechanic put in a brand new alternator for under 120.00 total! The service department is so rude they seem happy when they explain how you have been duped by their service plan. Oh did I mention the service people are also near impossible to get a hold of? Over 3 voice mail messages left in hopes of getting a service appointment or information were left unanswered (thanks Shanell) . You would be better buying a used car off the street then thinking that these people have integrity or any intention of standing by what they sell. A horrible experience Ironic update, they sent me a "happy one year anniversary of your car purchase" email yes one year to the date of purchase, I just had to take the car in for 300.00 of work, none of which Carmax will cover despite the "warranty". read more

I came in a week earlier to let them see the car to order some parts. I was then scheduled by them to come several days later to have them installed, but no one called to say stay home because the parts did not come in. So 3 trips to get the parts installed. Bummer... read more

I went to carmax a couple months ago to try to sell my SUV to them. It was a 2000 Chevy blazer with 60000 miles on it with all the bells and whistles in perfect condition. They offered me 2300 for it...I ended up selling it for 6000 to a private buyer. I was not very happy with them. They do have a friendly, helpful staff but i still think they can work on their offers to people to buy their cars. read more

my experience was mixed. i had a vehicle transferred from atlanta store.. it took three weeks and when i made appt. to see the car it was dirty with a bad tire sensor. however, the buying process was quick. also, the car had numerous mechanical issues immediately after delivery. i called their corporate office in virginia who were friendly and helpful and they put me in contact with service manager, roger. he was very understanding and allowed me to take the vehicle to my local chevy dealer for repairs under the carmax warranty. roger was very helpful as well as vicki at the corporate office but my sales people dropped the ball a little. overall, i would buy there again wiith a different salesperson as they did stand behind the car. read more

My boyfriend and I went to the Carmax in Merriville, IN. He fell in love with an 07 Mitsubishi Eclipse. We decided to purchase the car and head back to the suburbs of Chicago. When we got home the same day the service engine soon light came on. After considering what to do with the car we decided to take it to a local auto shop for a read on the light. The light came up with code P0300. For those who do not know much about cars, like myself, that code is for multiple misfires in one or many cylinders. Under the diagnosis the sheet advised that without taking care of the problem soon one the cylinders may explode. Obviously upset that the car we just purchased had a very serious issue we decided to contact the man who sold us the car. We told him the problem and he was amazing and even made us an appointment for the next day for the car to be serviced. While driving to the dealership we went back and forth on if we should return the car or give them the benefit of the doubt. Because our sales man was so amazing and friendly we decided to give them another chance and have the car serviced. They got the car finished in one day and we went down the next to pick up the car. We were skeptical if they had actually fixed the issue because on the sheet they give you showing what they had done to the car it did not show that any tests were ran to make sure the engine had a clean bill of health. We decided before heading home to drive around to see how it sounded and felt. We drove for about half an hour and decided to pick up my car and head home. 30 minutes into the drive home my boyfriend called me to tell me the engine light was on again. We then immediately turned around and returned the car. Returning the car was simple and everyone was very friendly but no one seemed surprised. Also while returning the car an employee walked up to see if we were another couple there to return their car. Although the sales team and business team are amazing these "mechanics" are not doing their jobs. I just hope they truly fix this car before selling it again so no one gets hurt. read more
