I can tell when he's serious or getting close to a purchase. He'll have an appointment. He has been loyal to CarMax since 2015. He loves that they do not hold you hostage while searching for financing. The space is lovely and open. There is water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and vending machine snacks. They also have a nice, clean bathroom. Frenchie came to grab us to keep us from waiting too long. A beautiful, older brown-skinned woman with a lot of patience and a good pair of walking shoes. She explained that she is retired and CarMax was effortless to her. We test drove three different cars; Honda Pilot, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Infiniti QX60. My husband has to feel the car, literally there has to be a connection. I understand because a vehicle is a BIG purchase, so get what you want and be happy. read more

Typically, the only thing that you need for a test-drive at a car dealership is to present your driver's license; a well-run dealer has an umbrella insurance for all their vehicles. In addition, they keep a scan of your driver's license on file for 30 days. Allegedly, they might sell it to data brokers and surveillance government agencies like Palantir, DHS, etc. I was attended by a sales associate named "Jacob," who insisted that I show my own car insurance, otherwise he would accompany me for only a short distance to closest stop-light. My friend was in need of a new vehicle. She lives near this location and asked me if I would meet her there to be a help. I was glad to as myself, sister and late Mother have all bought cars from CarMax (Oak Lawn location). We walk in and we were greeted in a friendly manner and were given Tyler to assist us. He was friendly, knowledgeable and answered whatever questions we had. My friend thought she was going to get either a Honda or a Nissan based off of preference. With inquiring and getting Tyler's advice, she started looking at Subaru's! Another friend of mine recently got a Subaru who is pleased with hers along with one of the other associates there telling us how happy he has been with his Subaru purchase. This purchase took a matter of days because she had a car transported from another location so had to wait for that one to come in. She was also trading in a vehicle along with going through her credit union. The whole time Tyler was great and we were really glad to work with him. I gave this facility five-star review last time because I gave them the benefit of the doubt since I did enjoy my time there. I came back while it was time to shop for a new car and boy it was a different experience. Firstly, when it comes to test driving the vehicle other places give you in a lot of time to drive the vehicle. You can basically create your own path as long as you're back at dealership let's say in 20 minutes. However, with this location you have to stay on this fixed path and it's only about 5 minutes per se that you get to drive the vehicle. I got screwed with my trade since stuff online is different than in person period the computer capped crashing out enemy the process of purchasing the car a lot more harder and longer. I did like the guy helping me out he was professional so I won't knock on him. Carmax Actually sold me a pretty decent car but the way that this company does business is borderline Shady and unprofessional. They do try to push multiple things on you even if financing a car through a third party and other add ons they tried to attempt. The service department at the Tinley park location, especially Steve, is solid. Every other aspect of Carmax is absolute garbage. I've bought three vehicles from Carmax and, without a doubt, I will never do business with them again. After selling me a vehicle, which they admitted was damaged before purchase, they refused to take ownership of having missed the damage in their, much advertised, 125 point vehicle inspection. I then waited Six months for the repairs to be done, at my expense, due almost entirely to an intentional lack of communication with Carmax customer service. By intentional I mean zero communication. I would call, they would give a call back number. And then would be continually unavailable and unresponsive to voicemail messages. I would then plead my case to a different customer service representative, who would, again, fail to follow up, return calls, and who would be mysteriously absent no matter how many times I called back. I bought a Acadia there and it seemed that even though I kept up with maintenance, oil changes and all the unnecessary upkeep it still went out about 5 years later . They bought it back from me for only a thousand dollars which in my opinion was a rip off. Its been a year & a half since I purchased a 2015 BMW from Carmax, at first I told myself when you purchase a use vehicle you are acquiring another person's headache. But since I have purchased this vehicle I have had NOTHING BUT REPAIRS!!!! We'll, first of all my financing was told a certain percent, but like a lot of us we are excited to purchase the vehicle, it was quoted at 13 % after looking at my contract I discovered that the contract had 19% but that was my fault, but moving on the vehicle after 4 months needed valve cover gaskets a hose & a thermostat, this was covered under the warranty in which i purchased, then 3 months later I needed a whole set of rotors and pads, out of my pocket $1500, ok now I think I'm good!!!! Nope, here rattled loke something is gonna break, well come to find out now I need struts, ha ha !!! So the conclusion to this is that Carmax checks for accidents, but unfortunately they are taking in used cars with problems, but the irony of it all is that they just selling and not inspecting what they take in. And no my warranty won't cover struts, but this is why people let there vehicles go and stage incidents, so my finalization is that if you buy from Carmax, take a mechanic with you, I had been hesitant to post but what the heck it's mt civil rights. I walked in yesterday, hoping to test drive the 2022 white Toyota Camry SE price $26,998 at 22,500 miles. .. I didn't make an appointment , hoping that it was going to be fine ..a friendly man named Malcolm help me out.. he was able to take me since his customer was almost 30 minutes late. I literally I had only had one hour because I was wasting time at Toyota prior. I had an appointment to go to, but I figured I'd stop in and just see what happens ..He help me to test drive the car and I came back, wanting to buy it. But I had to go to a different appointment, but I asked if he could hold it, but I will be back to do the paperwork and he said it was fine. He did give me a phone call once he was done with his customer and we did most of the work through the phone and I came back to pick up the car later. It was a less stressful experience and I appreciate that he explained all the options I had when it came down to financing. He was patient with me and we got through the application ..I picked up the car, Bernadette was very friendly and helpful as well. I really like this location and I highly recommend it, this is the best that I have dealt with! I drove out of there very happy that I got a good deal on this car and they don't charge many fees, just title and tax. I will be coming back here and recommending my friends! The car is in great condition and I'm very happy with it.. it's only been 1 day since I have been driving it, but it drives really well and I like how it picks up speed ! it has been 13 years since I bought a car and I feel better about this deal at Carmax, and just the experience of finally getting a car, and they do the paperwork on the computer to save time but explain everything to you and they email you the documents and print them out as well ! Is it a good feeling when you walk up to your car that you just bought and drive it out of the garage ! I do recommend Carmax when it comes to buying or selling. They go through all these inspections, etc., and they are backed up with a 10 day return policy and 4000 miles or two months if anything goes wrong with it etc.... very happy with my experience yesterday and Bernadette waited till I pulled out to wave me goodbye. Now 2 years later I find out the car fax they gave me was fake. The car they sold me had 3 SEVERE accidents!!! So now my car over heated and they said I needed a new engine. I didn't believe them so I brought it to SLK autohaus and they cleaned off the engine and said "I didn't need an engine." SLK IS GREAT!! I brought it back to Carmaxx and they said I needed a new engine and everything else with it. Made no sense because I replaced everything a week before. So now Carmaxx realized they messed up and now are saying "they will only cover half of the engine." Car max Tinley Park sold me a vehicle 3 quarts low on oil. Broke down 100 miles away when the mechanic I was towed to let me know of the lack of oil. At this point I have had this vehicle less than a month and a half. Decided mistakes happen, and all is well. Now, I'm broken down again, but over the 90 days they have to do something. Carmax told me they would waive the diagnostic fee, but nothing else. Also, I can't get the vehicle in until late next week. They sell lemons with bandaids, that will last just long enough to get through the 90 days. This business baits and switch's on customer. Gave online offer to buy my car for $2,100 knowing the car was not running, had engine problems and had to be towed in. All this was revealed in the online description of vehicle. They offered me $500 when they saw the car. They showed me an online assessment were it said the vehicle had NO engine trouble. I went back to the pages were l put the info in and I clearly checked box for engine problems! To me, they falsified what they showed me to justified giving me only $500, while initially offering 2,100. Also said they couldn't check odometer. It is an electronic odometer and can only be shown when car is running and they were informed the car isn't running! If it were given some power the odometer would have displayed. Issue: I filled out description accurately but somehow it got changed. When they low ball you, they expect you will just take the offer because its just to much trouble not too and have your car towed again. Classic bait and switch. This is extremely dishonest. This is giving you a false advertisement to get you in and expecting you to take a lot less to avoid the trouble. That's a cheating company! A 2016 Genesis Sedan with features like lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, auto lights, AWD, lexicon audio, 23 way adjustable leather seating, wood trim throughout, panoramic glass roof, remote start, remote diagnostics, Stolen vehicle recovery. and not a bunch of miles. Lots of attention to detail. When you remote start the car you also set the climate control to the temperature you want. As you approach the car the mirrors extend and the Genesis logo is projected on the ground illuminating entry. The seat is and steering wheel are out of the way when you sit. Press the start button and the mirrors, steering and seat put you in position to command the vehicle. You will find the driving experience is silent and even self drive if you like. I had to have this car so... After a couple of weeks I found one in Tinley Park and headed there ASAP because I had delayed pulling the trigger before and lost. I had to wait about 30 minutes for a rep, then Basil showed up and I indicated I wanted to move quickly. Basil turned into a super efficient sales person. In no time he had the car up for me and I test drove just in the parking lot. Too many features to test and CARMAX has a 7 day return policy and this was the exact car I wanted. So trigger pulled, wrote a check and accepted the no pressure offer of an additional $1300 for the CARMAX warranty which has a great reputation. Basil had the car prepped while I finished up at the biz office. I got my bill if sale, Illinois registration and new plates on the spot. Basil invited me out to take possession of the car which was parked nose pointed out , plates on, with a red ribbon on it. I stood beside the car for a picture and was gone. Total transaction time including the wait about 75 minutes. I really enjoyed the experience and don't feel I was ripped off. The car runs like a dream. People on the street ask me what it is thinking it might be a Bentley or a Austin Martin. They are shocked to find a car with such a very level of fit and finish is made by Hyundai. Genesis is Hyundai's luxury division and let me tell you this car is all about luxury. Comparable to a 5 series BMW, or a Lexus GS, or a Mercedes E class the Genesis loaded is $53k. The Mercedes E Class at $53k doesn't even have leather seats. My example had 28,000 miles and was $26,000. I recommend CARMAX to anyone of course. I saw a 2017 Ram 1500 sport night edition on the website and started the whole process online and went into the store to sign papers and take delivery of the truck on a friday evening. As soon as I left I noticed a very loud noise coming from the left front hub which was no good along with a list of other issues like the radio doesn't turn off like it should, the radio jumps from aux to radio randomly, the front wheel well liners were cut out, the right front headlight held on with 1 screw, center counsel latch was broken and needed replaced, driver side vents not attached to dash just moving around. As well as some other small issues so I took it in to the Merrillville, IN service dept. I took this truck back on 5-10-22 as this truck should of never been listed for sale until these issues were addressed. I scheduled an appointment, granted I was 15 minutes late. There were several other cars who did not check in for their appointments. So they had openings, also why do they schedule so many appointments and not have loaners or workers to actually work on the cars. One of the service women told me one of the car guys took on a brake job that was more serious and took longer. And they couldn't get their tech guy which was one of my main concerns for my vehicle... When I had scheduled my appointment the women who helped me over the phone told me they would have a loaner set up for me and have the tech guy to check the car. When I get there, there are no loaners and would not be able to see my car until some time in the afternoon. I drove 50 minutes for that... And all they would help me with is to reschedule? First time buying a car from CarMax and what a great experience it was....as far as car buying goes! Fist of all you can hold a car for 7 days you are interested in via their website. This is nice because u don't have to worry about someone buying it out from under you until u can schedule to look at it. Which would have happened to me if I hadn't. Leon White (my salesman) was great and wasn't to pushy or too "salesmany". If you car shop online it's pretty easy to figure out what a good price on a car is and CarMax gives u a good haggle free price...or at least this was true in my case. I hate having to haggle or deal with slimy salespeople and just want to get in and out as quick as possible. My sons car broke down 4 weeks ago. The car was still under the manufactures warranty. Carmax came and picked up the car (we didn't know it was still covered under the manufacturer warranty at this time) it took Carmax 1 week to put the car in the machine to get the code. It then took them another week to get the car over to Hyundai over in Matteson, IL. Once matters in received the car they started working on it (I guess). Now between all this time so far I have called a bunch of times to find out what was even WRONG with the car. That's right nobody would get in the phone with me to even tell me that. Finally on this past Monday (we are now going on the 4th week of the car being gone with no idea of what was even wrong) I called and asked the girl for the location of where the car is she told me so I looked up the number called and basically begged the ppl there to tell me anything because Carmax NEVER RETURNS CALLS. The woman at Hyundai was very nice and understanding. I left a voicemail for the man that was working on the car and he called me back Monday. Turns out the car has been done since this past Saturday but he was on vacation until Tuesday and the other guys didn't know who to call at carmax (sorry excuse I know) so the man left a voicemail on Tuesday for L that Carmax had to come pick up the car. (Because they brought it there they have to pick it up we cannot) it is now Thursday nobody has called me so I call Carmax probably for the 15th time since all this started and the girl who answers has no idea of what goes on anywhere around there. So I tel her the car has been ready since Saturday I need the car back. She says oh well Hyundai just called to say to let us know it's ready. I tell that's a lie and K left a voicemail for L on Tuesday that the car was ready. She put me on hold comes back and says we will pick the car up today and let you know when it's ready for pick up this afternoon. It is now 2:30pm and they close at 5 nobody has called yet. I will never again purchase a car from this Carmax location. The customer service is horrible. Also their Carfax were a lie. They said the car was never in any accidents. The service department at this CarMax location is horrible you have to call at least 10 times before someone answers the phone! But whenever you go in there's a line of employees sitting behind the desk not sure how none of them are able to pick up the phone! They tell lies on when you should expect your vehicle back as well so don't even bother to ask! read more

I'm a serious Senior. I give CarMax a Two reluctantly as their Customer Service is failing and trying to purchase a Safe reliable used car is nearly impossible. I tried 3 times. The last car was just as bad as the first and second. They decided to fix some things on the third to get it to sale so they wouldn't have to return my down payment. Lastly CarMax FORGOT to return my warranty down payment money on one of the cars...I don't like reminding people about what they rightfully owe me. After several attempts to get my refund they are refunding it much later than expected. Never again Dude! Go anywhere else but there if at all possible! I wished I had. read more
