Absolutely horrible service! Dropped my vehicle off Wednesday 1/19/2022 for my Thursday 8am appointment for check engine light. I had to keep calling to find out the status, finally was told around 3:40pm that CarMax Warranty denied the claim to fix the problem because vehicle is covered under Buick warranty first. They advised that my truck will be delivered to the Buick dealership (not far from dealership) that afternoon. I did not hear from CarMax on Friday or Saturday and did not call because I did not need my vehicle. I called this Monday morning at 10:15 and was told that vehicle is still at the Buick dealership and they would call me back in a few hour with an update. I called back at 1pm and was put on hold while they call the dealership and was told my vehicle is ready and they have to get someone to go get my vehicle. I called back at 4pm and was told they are short staffed and still working on getting my vehicle. CarMax closed at 9pm and I never heard from them. This is totally unacceptable, I'm a customer just like all the other customers they took care of Thursday, Friday and today to look at their vehicle, get it fixed and get their vehicle back to them in a reasonable amount of time. Looking to calling them in the morning and telling them let me go pick up my vehicle since they seem not to have any concern at all. read more

I purchased a vehicle here and already had to have it serviced twice within 60days of having the vehicle. The second time they had to take my vehicle in for servicing they didn't even have a loaner available for me. Upon finally picking my vehicle up after two weeks, I waited FORTY FIVE minutes in their waiting area AFTER they had already checked in my loaner vehicle only to find out that I had been forgotten about! I work 45hr work weeks so the latest thing I want to do is spend my time off the clock in a waiting room! read more

Went here to test drive a car for the 24 hours test drive they are advertising. They first tried to give me the 20 minute test drive (read the papers you are signing) so then I said I want the 24 hour test drive. The associate asked me why I wanted that so I told him and he had to check with his manager. Then they realized my license was expired so they said I couldn't do the 24 hour test drive. Well it's still a pandemic and expired licenses aren't technically expired. I left. The associate was nice but they definitely don't follow what they advertise. read more

The salesman, Richard was wonderful. The woman who helped me with the sales paperwork was also, wonderful. These two people were personable and talked to me as a person not someone contributing to their next paycheck. I like my car but have to say it was dirty on the inside. Starbucks napkins and drink stoppers were in the console, the sold tag was under the front seat and there was mud in the back seat. Kind of disappointing after spending what I spent on the car. I do believe you get a fair price at Carmax but their attention to the smaller details with the car was lacking. read more

This is my second car I've bought them. I didn't have ANY problems the first time. However, different location. Anyways, when I bought the car, 1/2 keys were defective and they said they would order a new one. They told me it would be a couple days. It ended up being a month and a half. I finally got the key (after a lot of back and forth) and they had me turn in the defective key. But A MONTH LATER I was looking for something in my car, that fell under my seat and I FOUND THE DEFECTIVE KEY! It was under my mat, under my seat!!!! It even had a "service tag" on it! So, that means, THAT WHOLE TIME, without me noticing, when I THOUGHT I was locking my doors, they WERE locking, But, then immediately unlocking! (Bc it's push to start) Also, Im SO luck someone didn't just open my door, get in, and drive off with my car. FOR A MONTH. ‍ AND, A couple months ago I even had $100s in items stolen bc of this! I've gone back and forth between the store and "corporate" and they recently told me they just aren't willing to do ANYTHING. Are you kidding me??! I'm a disabled, single mom and THIS is how they treat customers! Completely unacceptable!!! You'd THINK something like this, would make them incredibly embarrassed and apologetic, with how disgustingly irresponsible. ‍ Someone literally could have just opened my door, started my car, and drove off!!! My youngest daughter moved to Spain yesterday. She will be there a year, maybe two so she decided to sell her car. She and I both know zip about cars and she wanted to use it until the day before her flight. She also had the car in Champaign until 3 days before her flight out of Chicago. The logistics of the whole thing had us flummoxed! My oldest daughter had inherited a car a couple of years ago that she sold to Carmax and recommended we go there. We tooled on over on Monday and it was quick and easy to get an offer. They gave my daughter an offer in writing that was twice what she had expected and was good for 7 days. She used the car until late Tuesday afternoon when we went back and they gave her a check. They even gave her a bag to put her stuff in and took off the license plate plus reminded her to grab her transponder. It was so easy, they were super polite and she was thrilled with her deal. I would recommend it to anyone, I just hope it's not for another child of mine moving out of the country! read more

Bad, bad experience shopping at CarMax. The only nice person here was Mr. Fransen. Paid almost 20k for my car and never got the car title. Called customer department, they said they sent my car title but I never received. They mentioned that I was trying to avoid the fee to get a clear title. I am not trying to avoid any fees after spending almost 20k on this car.Never shopping at Carmax never ever again. I will tell all my colleagues not to shop there and social networks. pretty sad that this issue was not resolved. Since the car I bought is an electric car, it came with a bad charging cord, they never replace it. I bought a car a week ago and everything was okay until during delivery , 1 tire was almost flat . My sales rep pulled it over and put in air and checked the other 3 tires . I said ' hey this needs to be fixed' and he assured me it would be taken care of. I also was missing a hub cap, which I was told , they would get one asap . I will get it tomorrow ' 1 week after the purchase . I called Car Max Saturday when the service light came on , nothing but a text saying ' it would be cared for ' , Sunday am I was almost flat , ( it was at 19'. ) Now tomorrow we will do the hub Cap but need ' to look into tire debacle another week from now . We went solely for the purpose of selling a car. Boyfriend had KBB'ed his car and had a range of $1500 - $2200. That seemed perfectly reasonable and like a normal and solid expectation. We walked in. Chris approached us immediately and was very kind and helpful. We waited about 20 minutes while Wendell appraised the vehicle. They were so fast that boyfriend did not even have time to eat his peanut butter cups. Normally, that would be a good thing. This time I don't think it was. It was subzero out and I think they raced through the appraisal. It came in at $750. It is good for 7 days. I don't think we will take it. But they were very nice. read more

This place is horrible!!! I applied for finance with a score of 800+. To my surprise I was refused finance on a two year old Honda. Two days later I came to my senses and went to a local Honda Dealership and purchased a new 2015 Civic. This was August 2015 as of December 2015, CarMax Finance is still trying to get finance through their partners. I am receiving rejection notices from those agencies. I have spoken to management at the Tinley Park Location and the corporate office and they are basically useless in assisting with stopping these inquiries into my credit from their finance partners. This situation has taken a negative affect on my credit score and it must stop. I will be filling a complaint with the BBB on this location and CarMax. read more

I will recommend nobody count on their service department. I bought a beautiful truck from them that needed a bumper painted and a shock. Long story short I spent 40,000 dollar with this location and traded in a old vehicle. I had the vehicle for 7 days and then the nightmare happened. CarMax had taken my vehicle in for service as we agreed upon but didn't not want to issue a loaner until a friend who works for them demanded I receive one. Service had my truck for 2 weeks for a simple 1 week process if that. After being told I was good to pick it up I came to find my truck was scratched and I'm not exaggerating on every panel, a ding in the bed and they painted both bumpers that didn't even match. The parts they used were they cheapest ones money can buy, not even factory stuff. The one service guy was trying to rush me to sign the service paper work but luckily enough I held off. I had my service writer come out and show him how unacceptable this is. And told him I'm not taking this back until it's done correct. So another week goes buy and they tell me to come in, my truck not even got touched. I had enough, I called corporate and had the manager involved he just told me that things happen and we think it looks fine we can try to buff out the scratches but you can and might still see them also will have to paint the bed side.Followed up by some arguing he said I'd have no problem selling this truck. So I said you can take it back if that's the case. Sales was okay, she was a doll and new however I requested that my credit only be ran with one bank I'm still receiving mail showing they ran it at least 10 times. Signing the title was a joke, they girl in the business office messed up the title twice and needed to file 2 affidavits to correct her lack of attention. Upon dropping off the loaner the GM a new guy now was great and had all the paperwork ready to return. I think his name was joe. Will I ever buy a car from them again, NO! Save your time and hard earned money and keep shopping. Most cars are over priced but for the people afraid to haggle. I just found a gem there and never purchased from them before so I gave them a shoot and my trade in value made it worth it. read more

It takes a lot to get 5 stars out of me...but my visit to the tinley park carmax earned it! The place is huge and very clean....the staff is very professional and friendly. I went in for warranty work on my 08 Mazda, while I waited for a diagnostic of the problem...I was in a very big comfortable waiting room...fully stocked refreshments, and free wifi. I was constantly updated on my vehicle...did I say how good the customer service was? Thomas was my consultant. As soon as they knew what the problem was, they gave me an estimate of the repair time..and put me right into a 2013 explorer to use until my car was repaired. Thomas kept me informed while the work was done. And....here's the best part....wait for it......everything was covered by my warranty! I didn't have to pay a dime! The repairs, the rental....covered! These are tough times, and I love the word 'free'. Great job carmax! read more

They had a great selection of vehicles and the salesman we talked to was nice but who ever details their cars does a horrible job that doesn't do the cars justice. Most of the car's interiors looked like someone used a dirty water soaked rag to clean the interiors that left dirty dried water drip stains everywhere. I am beyond excited to have a car that I understand and am very pleased with the service we received from start to finish. I had a car sent here from the Carmax in Kenosha, I was really excited for this car. Went and test drove it and decided to purchase. Craig was my sales guy and let me say, the only reason I gave this more than one star is because of Craig. He was a great sales guy, and I recommend him to everyone. We got the car purchased, down payment paid, papers signed... than after an unusually long wait I was approached by a lady telling me they could not sell me the car. The Carmax in Wisconsin botched the title and put the wrong miles on it. It had been reported well over the miles that were on the vehicle and Illinois caught the mistake and could not issue the title to me for fear of tampering. This was a massive mistake and Carmax did nothing to make it right at all. They said oops sorry, gave my money back and that was that. Haven't heard from them since. Not great business. My husband and I saw a car online we wanted to check out here. I thought I had held the car but apparently the reservation didn't go through. Luckily the car was still in stock, but our sales associate was horrible. He took us out to see the car, but wasn't knowledgeable or very friendly. We mentioned we were checking out cars today to narrow down to purchase one by the end of this week. After driving the first car, I mentioned to him I'd like to test drive another car they had on the lot. He said we were free to walk around but there was no point in driving the other car as there was no guarantee it would still be here at the end of the week. It's not like we were looking for months out. We want to make a purchase within the next few days. How am I supposed to know if I want to buy a car if you won't even let me drive it? Sold me a car with bad tires. The tires tread were so low. Then, when I said I the TPMS light came on two days after I bought the car they argued and said they were fine. I purchased a Nissan a few days ago from this CarMax in Tinley Park and had a great experience. Being in sales myself, I don't respond well to pushy sales people which is what I had experienced at other dealerships. This CarMax really turned around the car buying experience for me. I worked with Randy at CarMax, and he was great. I appreciated that he gave me space to look through the cars, but checked in regularly and was available when I was ready to test drive. He listened to what I was looking for and was very informative. During the test drives we had natural conversation which made it less awkward in the car. Even through the financing processed, he stepped away when I asked for time to think through my options. The quality of all their vehicles seemed great. The 30 day warranty and 5 day return period also made me feel very comfortable. They also had a great selection which made it easy for me to weigh my options. This is my second car from CarMax and the problem was after we had picked our car out. Apparently, the not-salesperson made a mistake while filling out the forms, so we got all the way to checking out with the finance guy, and had to start the process all over again. Then when I sold them my junker of a car...agreed to do the next day...it was brutal. Waited in line for 2 hours, for no apparent reason. The most frustrating thing was at no point during either debacle, did anyone say sorry. I'd consider buying again from them, but not any more so than I would from a dealer...they have become just another place to buy a car. Didn't use to be that way. read more

I purchased my vehicle from Carmax 10 years ago. I appreciated that I could go online to see what was available and get the price without the "haggle" so I returned last month. I purchased a BMW X3. I was told that the car hadn't been in any accidents and given an Autocheck report. The vehicle was used but it was pre certified, which is another reason I felt comfortable with the vehicle and Carmax. However, being the cautious person that I am, and knowing car salespeople, I decided to take the car to the BMW dealer for a $172 overall check to ensure everything was good. Upon expecting the vehicle one thing that I was told was that the indicator light couldn't be turned off because the car needed and oil change. I was annoyed because I wondered why would Carmax sell me a pre certified car that needed and oil change? There were a couple other things that the dealership told me needed to be taken care of and again I was very annoyed because if the car is precertified there should be nothing that needs to be done at this point when I'd only just purchased it a little over two weeks prior. Anyway, the last thing the BMW dealer told me, left me floored. He told me that the inspection found that the car had been involved in an accident. He said the headlights were aftermarket lights. He also showed me the two vents in the front of the car that he said were different from each other. He also told me that the car had been painted. I already had an appointment to take the car to Carmax for repair of the hood release. Once I got there I told the service guy about the indicator light not going off due to the car needing an oil change as well as the other things the dealer mentioned. I was told that the oil had been changed in January 2019. I asked for a copy of the document that showed this. He gave me a copy of the maintenance that Carmax had done to the car, and what do you know, it showed that the car had been painted and some parts replaced in the exact areas that the dealer had told me about. I spoke with the service manager, Joe. Joe denied any damage being done to the car, he even had the nerve to tell me that sometimes they may paint the car if it has scratches. Really?? He said he he would speak with someone and get back with me. Two days later I hadn't heard back so I contacted him. Upon speaking to Joe I was told that whoever he spoke to agreed to put in writing that Carmax would cover the aftermarket parts if something should happen and the warranty didn't cover them. At this point I was very upset because I had been so excited upon purchasing the car but now I was feeling uncertain and definitely not trusting Carmax. I told Joe that I wanted to speak with someone else about my concerns because I didn't feel comfortable with the car at this point. In the meantime I have been in contact with an attorney who felt it could be a potential fraud case against Carmax. She requested that I run a $40 Carfax report which I did. The Carfax report stated that there HAD been damage to the vehicle which Carmax never revealed and even denied. I went to speak with the Operations manager, James Roberts. As I was expressing my concerns I could tell that he really didn't care what I said. I expressed concern about the car not being the value that they sold it to me due to the damage (which the Carfax report clearly stated that the value of the car was decreased due to the damage). I told him that I wanted either substantial money off the price of the car or I wanted another vehicle because I would not have purchased the car if I had of known about the damage. He of course had some ready answer of course, saying the car is priced long before it gets to them so they have no control over the price. I told him at this point I didn't feel comfortable with the vehicle and I wanted to have the option to choose another vehicle. He told me he would speak with someone and call me the next day. It's been three days and I haven't heard anything from them. In the meantime I am definitely going to pursue this issue via the attorney. I don't like to be lied to. Don't trust them! Carmax is ok but stay away from the Maxcare warranty. Sounds great till you need to use it. Brought my Truck to Ford on Tuesday. Maxcare agreed to pay for repairs minus the deductable. Truck was complete Wednesday but Ford dealer could not release the truck to me till Maxcare paid them. Ford dealer and myself have made multiple calls to Maxcare. here it is Friday and the claim still has yet to be paid. the claim Is $230ish. my deductible is $300. Maxcare is closed over the weekend so I will have to wait till Monday ti try and call again. after all said and done with uber back and forth to work, it would have been cheaper for me to just pay Ford and not deal with Maxcare. Save you money and don't get the Maxcare warranty. Pretty sure Maxcare is a company not owned by carmax. Don't get the warranty!!!! read more
