We stayed at Carmel Country Inn from Friday to Sunday for a girls' trip, hoping for a relaxing and restful weekend. Unfortunately, our stay was quite disappointing. We booked one of the double rooms with a fireplace. While the room itself was fine, the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. From around 9pm to 1:00 AM, we could clearly hear footsteps from the room above us, along with conversations. It didn't seem like the guests upstairs were being intentionally disruptive -- it felt more like an issue with how the property is built and the lack of sound insulation. We did call the front desk and asked if they could notify the guests upstairs. After that, they were more mindful of their steps, which we appreciated, but we could still hear them trying to whispering. We chose this property because we were looking for a peaceful place to rest, reset, and enjoy quiet evenings. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For the amount we paid for a weekend stay, we expected much better soundproofing and overall comfort. Sadly, we won't be returning or recommending this property to our family or friends. read more

The most DARLING bed & breakfast. I loved the tea, coffee, and variety of delicious homemade cookies in the lobby when you check in. The homemade breakfast is amazing - warm mini-quiches, yummy pastries, yogurt & berries. Don't go crazy on the cookies and pastries here though- I did and experienced the horrible sugar crashes everyday, sob. The rooms are adorable, clean, and updated - with the most cozy beds too. This place is my go to getaway for Carmel By The Sea. What makes this bed and breakfast stand out is they are very pet friendly and breakfast is brought to the room each morning. The fireplace and jacuzzi tubs are also notable and adds a touch of luxury to the stay. The pet fee is reasonable $25 (compared to $100 at other places). The You are not allowed to leave pets unattended which is a rule at manyother establishments. They offer pet strollers, towels and a rinse station for the dogs. My dog Boba is remembered by name and is welcomed with a treat. His picture is taken for their yearly album and our stay is personalized with his name on the welcome board. My dog likes to bark and I do my best to keep it down. But never have I had to deal with complaints because they get it - and the other guests seem to understand also. Snacks for humans and pets are available in the lobby throughout the day . The staff is super friendly and go above service to have our room ready for our stay - with accommodating early check ins when possible. They offer goodies to take home during check out. Breakfast choices include quiche, oatmeal, baked goods, fruit and yogurt. It's best enjoyed out on the patio or inside where dinner trays are provided. My favorite rooms have a patio and Jacuzzi tub. The rooms are spacious and bedding is soft. The price is very reasonable for their amenities. The location is 5 min walk to Carmel shops and restaurants. The beach is a few minute drive too. So location, breakfast, spacious rooms and dog friendly staff is why ai choose to stay here every time we visit Carmel and Monterey. read more

Great location. Parking worked out. The place was super cute, clean and unique. One lady who worked there was super rude when checking us in for absolutely no reason though. We arrived when we said we would, came in with a good mood ourselves, but she must've been frustrated from something else and took it out on us instead. It was the kind of thing you just need to try and shake off and move on from so you can enjoy your vacation. It was unfortunate though. It's good to know going in as a guest that staff goes home around 8pm, so no staff if you need help with something after hours. That's totally fine, it's a bed and breakfast style so that's not out of the ordinary. One of the two keys that was given to us didn't work though... luckily we had both on us. read more

If you have fur babies and are looking for an excellent dog friendly place to stay, you have to stay at Carmel Country Inn. They serve beautiful breakfast daily, have a dog wash on site and parking. Our dogs LOVE staying here and we do too. Staff treat everyone like family. We stayed at CCI for our babymoon and enjoyed the visit. We were about 3 blocks from the bustling Ocean Ave. and in close proximity to shops, restaurants, etc. We stayed in a 1 bedroom king which felt very spacious for us and our big ol yellow lab. The hotel truly is dog friendly and even have a welcome sign to welcome the new arrivals each day. The bathroom was also large with a separate jacuzzi tub for two and a standing shower. They offer breakfast in the morning and have fresh coffee ready. The staff is very friendly and walked me through how breakfast works, where to find trays if we want to dine in-room, and even warmed quiche for us. My favorite part of the experience was the overall customer service. They were so warm and welcoming which really made us feel at home. Everyone from the welcome desk to the house cleaning staff would see Buddy (our dog) waiting for pets and would gladly walk out of their way to show him some love. Note that dogs are not allowed unattended, even in a crate! Not a huge deal as they do provide a list of suggested sitters if needed. I had to knock a star because the walls are rather thin so having a corner room made the stay rather uncomfortable during the mornings. The room above us would play fetch with their dog (or child) early in the morning which limited our ability to sleep in. Being on the ground floor, dog also had trouble settling once he heard other people and dogs walking past our door on the way out of the property. Overbearing staff member: We checked in on a Monday afternoon with our our large and mini goldendoodles. As we pulled into the small parking lot, we were waved down by a female staff member with dark hair. We don't remember her name however, we remember how unprofessional she was and also her rudeness. The staff member came up to our car door and instructed us to go inside the lobby to check in. Once in the lobby, she ran down the log list of doggie do's and dont's! She told us dogs weren't allowed in the lobby area, so if we wanted to have breakfast we would need to take it to our room. She also said dogs can't be in the rooms unattended. We interpreted this rule for dogs who aren't crate trained and would be free roaming around the room. Our dogs are crate trained and after sometime for them to get settled in, we let our doggies take a nap in their crates and we hoped to venture out and enjoy dinner. As soon as we stepped in front of the lobby windows, the staff member came out and questioned us about our evening plans and why our dogs weren't with us. We explained that they were taking a nap in their crates and we would be back shortly. The staff members told us, they have been in business for over 25 years and it is widely known that this hotel does not allow dogs to be left unsupervised in the room. She informed us that the dogs needed to be with us at all times! After what she made into an intense conversation, we told her we were unaware of this requirement. She told us we just signed an agreement stating we could not leave them in the room. We told the staff member we would abide by the hotels rule and we took our dogs with us. After we returned back to the hotel, the female staff member printed out a copy of the hotel's rule and confronted us again! She didn't offer an apology for the misunderstanding but spoke in a condescending tone and she wanted to prove she was in the right! We told her we were already abiding by their rules and we would like to be left alone. She finally returned back to the lobby. When we checked out, we noticed a smaller dog allowed into the lobby area. That dog urinated in the lobby area and we had to check out around the puddle of urine. Overall, we feel we were treated differently and watched closely due to us staying with larger dogs. Be prepared and study up on their pets rules if you plan on staying with pets. About the room: the beds were comfortable, the rooms we spacious, and the housekeepers were attentive and polite. No A/C nor ceiling fans. Becareful with the shower floor. For our anniversary we wanted to celebrate near the coast. Due to uncontrolled circumstances our previous reservations were canceled and we had to find another place to lodge. Talk about stress, especially at the last minute! To our relief we stumbled upon the Carmel Country Inn and they happen to check out all our boxes. There is a first for everything and that includes staying at a bed and breakfast. First things first is the parking lot is a tad small. If none available, there is street parking in the neighborhood. We were in luck and found parking! If you were to venture into downtown Carmel or the local beach I suggest walking the short distance to keep your spot. This establishment is very pet friendly. There is grass turf specifically for your furry babies. My pups thought it was real grass! They do provide trash bags that are located adjacent on the wooden deck. It's always the details that get me. Upon checking in they had a chalkboard with all the names of the fur babies! Dog treats were offered. The room had a cute place mat where we could put their food and water bowl. Not to mention "VIP" dog sheets that were helpful to place on the bed and furniture! Luxury King Studios "Treetop" was our home for the night. An open room that had french doors leading to a spacious deck with lounging chairs and tables. It was our favorite to lounge outside with the pups in the late afternoon when we first arrived and in the morning with breakfast. Mother nature is going to do her thing and we can't do anything about it! Nobody's fault. That particular night it was uncomfortably hot. That is unusual for them in comparison to their cool breezy days. There are temperature thermostats, but there is no actual air conditioning. It is placed for the future if they were to install air conditioning. The fan does work at very low speeds or so fast that if you left it on you would probably get sick. Having the windows open is not ideal when there were a lot of mosquitos out that evening. If possible I would check prior what the weather would be for your stay. The room itself was very clean including the sheets and towels which are top priority! Not a deal breaker, but the air purifier was completely covered in collected dust. Next to our bed on the floor was a vent that had thick dust and dirt in the vents. A little dusting would remedy those two. Breakfast is provided each morning. A hearty spread of warm oatmeal, fruit, pastries, yogurt, and delicious quiches. They even let you bring breakfast to your room which we definitely did as we enjoyed the fresh morning air! Stayed here this past week and I truly enjoyed it. The staff was very nice and welcoming when I came to check in. She explained breakfast and office hours with us, and showed us our room. The room was very clean and you definitely do not get that pet smell leftover from previous guests. Carmel overall is pretty pricey no matter where you stay, but CCI was worth it, because it's a bit further away from the downtown noise. Most of the restaurants and shops were still walking distance and the beach was a quick drive away which we loved. We stayed in the Deluxe King Studio which was plenty of room for the two of us. The soaking tub was awesome and one of the main reasons why I chose this place. My husband loves soaking tubs lol. The bathroom also had a separate shower with decent water pressure and shampoo & conditioner provided. The only minor issue for me was the thin walls and the talking and noise you can hear from neighbors or anyone walking by. At times I kept thinking someone was knocking on our front door. I loved all the natural light that came in, but also a bit weird when we had our curtains open up, because anyone staying across from us can see in lol, so we kept it closed during our stay. The rooms do not have AC which they do state on their website, but they do provide floor fans if it gets hot. The evening felt wonderful with the windows slightly open and the cool air coming in though. The bed was so comfortable, I knocked out for nine hours straight! Check-out was a breeze. I ran into another guest with the same great experience and I got to pet her dog which made me super happy! Also, don't forget to show love to the house cat!! Overall, I would stay here again, because of the cleanliness and friendly service. We were able to leave our car parked in the lot when we checked out and left for breakfast. Housekeeping was also nice enough to leave my husband's phone charger on top of our car, because he forgot it in the room. read more

We stayed here one night during spring break just to experience the vibes of Carmel. I wanted a place nearby downtown but away from the noise. We got it. The one bedroom suite was spacious for my husband, I, my 10 year old and a puppy. Parking could be an issue. One Tesla charger is available on site for registered customer with no fee. However, the space for charging is extremely narrow. Another issue was noises from neighbor. Although everyone tried their best to keep volume low during quiet hours. The wall between rooms is very thin. I could hear my neighbor open and close closet door, sneezing and talking in my bedroom. Tea and coffee, dog treats and human snacks available throughout the day till 8pm. Beach towels and sand bucket also available to check out there during office hours. I walked in multiple times for questions and treats. The staffs were very friendly and informative. Complimentary breakfast starts 8am. They still use physical key. Lost key fee is $5. read more

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights with our 3 Shih Tzus for my birthday. We stayed the same weekend as the Big Sur marathon (Big Sur to Carmel) so a lot of the other places were fully booked. Many rooms here were booked as well and we ended up with a Luxury King Studio on the second floor. When we checked in, our dogs' names were written on their chalkboard welcoming them! How cute. They also had treats for them. Note that during breakfast time, dogs are not allowed inside the dining area but that's the only time. Our room came with a fireplace, whirlpool rub, TV, French doors leading to our own private balcony. The room itself wasn't as big as I was expecting, but it was adequate.The room itself was cozy and we left the French doors open in the evenings for a nice cool breeze. They do have a fee per pet, per day. Since our dogs are small, they only charged us for 2 pets instead of 3. They gave us an extra sheet to use in case our dogs wanted to sleep with us on the bed. Although small, they do have a dedicated parking lot and we've never had an issue finding parking. They provide you with a very helpful map of all the nearby shops and restaurants (many dog friendly restaurants). Breakfast is included which is fairly simple; oatmeal, fruit, quiche, scones, croissants etc. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay, encountered friendly staff, were able to walk our dogs to nearby restaurants and were a short drive away from Monterey Bay as well. I seriously love this lil bed and breakfast! I've stayed here twice now (back in 2018 and recently about a few weeks ago) The staff is super friendly and I love that they welcome my dogs as guests as well. There was even treats and a welcome sign for them too They keep a log of all their furry visitors and i found my dog in one of their photo albums from our previous visit in 2018! The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and I love that they serve breakfast in the morning and snacks in the afternoon. We stayed here one night for our dog's 18th birthday and it was GREAT! We stayed in a deluxe king studio and I now want to model our master bedroom off of that room because it was so nice. We are locals so we asked if we could check in as early as possible. They called when our room was ready and we came on down. We were greeted by Lacey who was amazing our whole stay. They had written our dogs names on a little chalk board welcoming them and had cookies, peanut butter pretzels and trail mix for us to take to our room. The room was really spacious and so quiet. It felt really isolated and private which I loved. We didn't hear anyone else our whole stay. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was great! The quiche were tasty and the almond croissants were the best. Lacey was so friendly and really made our stay as enjoyable as it could be by taking an interest in our dogs. Great experience at dog-friendly Carmel Country Inn! We booked the Deluxe One Bedroom King Suite, which was very comfortable and cozy, especially with the fireplace and balcony! The room had a living area with a separate bedroom and massive bathroom. The large jacuzzi tub was amazing and the heater under the vanity was an especially nice touch for the chilly mornings. The hotel is also conveniently located from the downtown area, so it's in walking distance to several cute shops and delicious restaurants (the best of which is The Pocket btw), plus beautiful Carmel Beach! The hotel offers daily breakfast, which we didn't partake in and should have because the bakeries we tried instead were subpar. We especially appreciated how thoughtful the hotel is: our pooch received a treat upon check-in (and so did his hoomans!) and a list of local dog-friendly restaurants was provided in our room. There was also a designated dog wash station (hose + Burt's Bees dog shampoo), which I've never seen offered by a hotel before (smart!). The room itself was also well-stocked with kitchen supplies, extra bedding, and plenty of towels and toiletries. The walls are a little thin, so you might hear your neighbors, plus a nearby hotel or cottage had a lot of kids playing and yelling during the day, which may have been a one-time situation. However, none of that took away from our overall experience. We would definitely book Carmel Country Inn for our next visit to Carmel, especially if we bring our dog again. He loved hanging out on the balcony in order to get pats on the head from other guests, chillin' on the patio at local restaurants, walking along the beach, and ending his days by napping by the fire. Dog days of summer for sure! Tip: Be prepared for traversing the steep hills and jagged sidewalks around Carmel! read more

Stayed here this past week with our friends. We had our own room, #1. It was JUST big enough for two adults and a big dog. The staff was wonderfully accommodating. We were told we would get sheets and a food mat for our pup but those never arrived. We were prepared though so we had our own things. My only REAL complaint: Our bathroom was a bit dirty, there were a lot of hairs in the tub and some..marks on the toilet. We overlooked those and just enjoyed the centrally located room with a cozy fireplace. Room #1 is beautiful, however, it's RIGHT on the street and the TV wall backs up to the lobby wall. So you can literally hear them setting up breakfast super early in the morning. The accommodations for pets and the closeness to downtown can't be beat. Thank you Carmel Country Inn! read more

Had the most amazing stay. I was so nervous bringing my dog out for the first time but the staff were so sweet and helped hold my dogs leash while I made myself a breakfast tray, they even helped me take the tray up to my room where I enjoyed it on my huge patio. They had a jetted bath tub that I wish I used but will definitely will be coming back another time. The cozy fireplace was so warm. The customer service was one of the best I've ever had. We had an amazing stay at Carmel Country Inn. We were greeted by the sweetest receptionist who showed us to our room and presented us with a complimentary anniversary cake. Our booking was for room 9, it was a 1 bedroom king (downstairs) and it worked well for us. Parking was directly in front of our suite but town was a close walk so we rarely drove. As others have mentioned, the walk to the beach isn't too far but there are hills to get back. If you make the trip I recommend taking ocean back up, we returned using another route and it was full of hills. We only ate breakfast onsite one of the days. I enjoyed the options however I'd say it's best for light eaters - my husband tends to like a heartier breakfast so we ate out day 2. The afternoon snacks were also a great perk and they provide to-go bags for those checking out or enjoying town on a day out. We'd be happy to stay at the inn again, we had a great experience and their hospitality was a true standout compared to a regular hotel. read more

My hubby and I decided to staycation in Carmel since it's so close to home and why not, we are fully vaccinated and practice Covid19 hygiene + we like staying away from people most of the time jk (kinda). It's also summer and the Monterey, Big Sur, pacific grove, area is typically beautiful since it's kinda mainly overcast most of the year with the afternoon sun but then it quickly vanishes . We had such a relaxing and fun time in Carmel. Point Lobos is around the corner so we also hiked and it seemed alot of people were hiking too but because point lobos is huge we didn't really run into alot of people. The hostess and staff are very kind and in fact everyone we interacted with in Carmel was kind and friendly. Loved the the breakfast quiches, oatmeal, pastries and more! They included beach towels, cookies , trail mix and more! I forgot to mention we were greeted not only by the hostess but a cute chubby cat! This place is pet friendly and so clean. Best home away from home! My husband and I came here with our dog Koa for a get away after being home for a year and a half due to Covid. The staff were so friendly and helpful. There were homemade cookies, coffee , tea, water upon arrival and available every afternoon. The complimentary Breakfast was delicious, best scones and quiche! Jackie and Amy were super nice and very accommodating. We stayed in the deluxe king suite, our dog Koa absolutely loved the balcony. Every time we came home he would go to the balcony door and ask us to open it. Once he got out there he would just lay there relaxing as long as he could until we called him in for bed. The balcony was also my favorite place to have breakfast every morning. The location was perfect, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We enjoyed daily walks to town for dinner and exploring. One day we took a drive along 17 mile drive snd stopped at the beach and other locations along the route. Koa was pretty tired and dirty. He's a Siberian Husky so bathing is a chore, but Carmel Country Inn has a designated area for dogs to potty and wash off with shampoo and towels provided. We used the area to wash koa with our own dry shampoo and brushed him out. Perfect! If you have a dog, this is the best place to stay! The rooms are very clean and spacious with a huge jacuzzi tub for 2, and a nice fireplace that my husband and I enjoyed every night. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back! read more

The Carmel Country Inn was a lovely place to spend a long weekend! Bringing our two Australian Shepherds along was a non-negotiable, and it was clear as soon as we arrived that dogs are celebrated here, not just tolerated. We had barely parked when we were greeted by one of the women in the office and asked if it was okay to give our pups treats. They had our dogs' names on a chalkboard in the office to greet us! We got a thorough tour of the grounds and room, and there were many helpful paper guides, especially regarding restaurants (and their dog-friendliness) and walking/hiking spots in the area. The location was a bit north of the main part of town, but it was kind of nice to be tucked away a little. There's a dog bath station with complimentary shampoo and towels (perfect for after the beach) and they provide sheets in the room to drape over the furniture so your dog can join you for snuggles. The breakfast spread is a bit limited, but the pastries are great and the quiches are excellent. When we checked out, they sent us on our way with snacks (trail mix and some really tasty cookies). I cannot say enough good things about this place, especially the staff. Staying in hotels with your dogs can feel like you're inconveniencing everyone around you (including yourself sometimes), but they really made all four of us feel truly welcomed. read more

Pros- Clean Free parking Walk to town Nice proprietors Cons Dark room ( a pet peeve of mine but some might prefer it) Humid and sort of warm room but they did have fans Breakfast was just ok. I don't love frozen/ thawed strawberries. Decor was quite aged although bathrooms were a bit better as they seemed to be updated. Outdoor spaces not as pretty as other places with same price point. Overall- I have not gone into other places in the same price range so cannot speak to real comparisons but I just hoped to be slightly more impressed than I was. read more

We really enjoyed staying here at @carmelcountry. We stayed in the Deluxe King Studio that had this adorable balcony that overlooks all these flowers. There was a fireplace in our room right under the tv & a huge bathtub that fits 2 people. For complimentary breakfast, they had the most delicious spinach quiches along with fresh fruits, oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, coffee, tea, oj, and more. All the staff were kind & warm. This place is so incredible, surprised my husband by booking a room for his birthday, the staff worked with me to keep it a surprise and everyone asked (at different times) how I told him, so obviously they communicate well with each other. When we arrived, they had a chocolate cake, two forks, and a Happy Birthday sign on the cake - so impressed with this spontaneous gesture from them. We stayed three nights in room number 9 (King suite) which had a fireplace - which we used all the time - even though it is summer - but so lovely to look at. The staff greeted us with a smile, helpfulness attitude, and just a genuine love for their guests every single time we saw them. We were only four blocks from the main street of Carmel and within 3/4 mile of the beautiful beach. Their breakfast(s) include little quiches, fruit, oatmeal (with toppings), and assorted pastries so you don't go away hungry from breakfast. We could not have chosen a better spot to spend a few days in Carmel by the Sea, with easy walking access into town. Covid-19 protocols are in place protecting our health and welfare. Thank you!! Our room was spectacular - comfortable bed, great jetted soaking tub, and warm fireplace. Breakfast is served to your room at this time and there were plenty of yummy options. The afternoon cookies and trail mix were a nice touch too. This place is dog friendly and we loved meeting other doggies as our own recently passed. If you are not a dog person, do not pass this place up. There was absolutely no whiff of pet in our room, their cleaning crew is amazing. We loved our stay and will definitely book here next time too. read more

We had nothing short of a spectacular stay at Carmel Country Inn and will absolutely return. The entire staff was welcoming and eager to provide the best stay possible while ensuring safety during a pandemic. The staff at Carmel Country Inn did a superb job of accommodating our dog, Lola. There's a grassy for your dog to go to the bathroom and towels and shampoo to bathe your pup after playing at Carmel Beach (which is entirely off-leash). Every day the staff would give Lola a treat and recommend restaurants and activities that allowed pets. If you have a dog, this is the place to stay. My partner and I stayed in the deluxe one-bedroom king and had everything needed. There's a nice patio to soak up some sun and enjoy your daily breakfast delivered to your front door(loaded with several options). There's a massive jet bathtub, a gas fireplace, and a very comfortable bed, making it one of the most relaxing stays we've ever had. The inn is situated a few blocks from downtown and the beach, making it both convenient to walk to everything but secluded enough to feel away from the noise and large crowds. Added bonus, if you have a Tesla, there's a charging port in the parking lot. If you're bringing along a dog, we really enjoyed: - Daily walks on Carmel Beach (there are so many adorable, well-behaved dogs) - Wine tasting at Silvestri - Eating in at Little Napoli (they have the cutest secluded patio) - Treats and toys at Diggity Dog (where you can also get custom photos from a professional photographer) read more

Although the bathroom and building itself is older, the service is terrific, so kind, & welcoming which makes up for the older facility!! The location is perfect! Our balcony was large! We def loved the fireplace & used it! AND enjoyed the breakfast (plenty of healthy options) & daily snacks!! read more

I didn't stay here because they wouldn't allow my family of 4 - 2 adults, 1-5yo, and 1-2yo - to stay in the one bedroom suite, even though my children sleep on the bed with us. They require us to book the two bedroom suite instead, for extra $100+/night. read more
