We stayed at the Carmel River Inn on July 14th and July 15, 2020. The night manager was abrupt and rude. Our room's air conditioning was not working. The beds were so hard you might as well have been sleeping on concrete. The bathrooms in the motel part were so tiny all you could do is turn around in the toilet and shower area. Not sure why this place has 4 star, but for me, it was the worst place I've ever stayed. First, they put a nice and big bathtub photo on their website, but after we went into our room the bathtub is old and small, very disappoint. Second, the person help us check in was terrible, he was not helpful and with bad attitude. Third, there was bugs in our room, it's OK for me but just felt the room is not clean. I want to give more than three and less than four. This place was our savior from the dankness of Morro Bay. We stayed here one night and were happy with what we were met with, bright clean rooms with light furniture and small fridge - all you really need for a night. Our second night, we were to stay in Morrow Bay, but upon arrival we didn't even get out of the car and high-tailed it back to Carmel, calling to plead for another night here. Well pleading wasn't even needed with the friendly and accommodating concierge and since it was Sunday to Monday, we got the room for an even better price! If you are not in the charming cottages, you will be in the 19 room two-story building and a bit of a funky feature is that if you have an upstairs balcony, it is not completely closed off from your neighbors and they can shimmy over - good if you know your neighbors, but late at night you can hear muffled sounds from in the next room and or balcony, should they be entertaining into the wee hours. Just outside of downtown, and I think an excellent choice for your Carmel stay. There is an outside area to relax, complete with HAMMOCKS!! I do love a hammock and swimming pool. The staff is very personable and prompt, the rooms efficient and tidy and the price is really right. read more

Probably the jankiest hotel we've ever stayed, but it served the purpose. Table with the TV on it looked like it was about to collapse...very 1990's style Flintstones looking furniture. Big black spider in room on night 1.. it got dealt with though. Smallest pillows ever! So, if you're driving here, take some from home, you'll thank me for it later. Weird lil corner shower that kinda shot steamish water at me. Also, they have their gel/shampoo and conditioner in dispensers.. no maid cart raiding for this place. But, like I said, it all served its purpose for the price. We had a nice patio to hang with a river-side feeling, though I don't think there was a river there.. maybe there was.. I don't know, we weren't really sitting outside much...if ya know what I mean ;) read more

Cabins are decent and a good value for the area. When we visited in 2019 they were expanding the # of cabins and discussing paving the parking area. It has potential and is secluded but close in. Safe for children. I give it 2 stars because my wife injured her wrist when the rear leg of the lawn chair sunk into a gofer hole in the front yard of our cabin. Fluke accident? Probably. The staff was apologetic and at the end of our stay, manager Michael Alonzo offered to comp 1 night of a future stay. I would have preferred that he comp our current stay, but agreed. He gave us a Carmel River Inn business card and hand wrote his name on it. Fast forward 1 year. My wife and I are going COVID crazy and thought: What the heck? let's drive up to Carmel for the weekend and make use of our free night in one of those cabins over a long weekend. We called today and spoke with Michael. He remembered us and the 'gopher hole incident' but refused to comp us the promised one free night even though I was trying to reserve two or three nights during a pandemic. Both my wife and I spoke with him seperately and he refused to back up his offer to each of us. He asked us if the card said "Free Night" on it. It doesn't, but that is the way he presented it to us. I decided to give Carmel River Inn a try because most of the complaints on yelp seemed like one-offs. The girlfriend and I chose one of the new renovated cottages. Everything seemed good after check-in, until we couldn't get our heater working later that night. We called the front desk, who also couldn't get it working. So we had to pick up and move all of our stuff after getting a bit settled. Not the end of the world but so it goes. The new cottage had a smaller bed, less amenities (no living area), etc. but we asked and were told our nightly rate would be the same. Um, okay. And, the heater was working but didn't do a great job of warming the place up even at max. Also, the wifi was very unreliable and required a call up to the desk to get the router reset. Then, even after that, we kept getting booted off the wifi and it wouldn't accept the password we were given. But another big problem came around 2am. We were awoken by a loud, aggressive scratching sound coming from the door. It woke us both up from deep sleep and continued for a bit until I investigated with a flashlight. It didn't come back and we never discovered it, but it resulted in a lot less sleep than we hoped. And checkout was at 11am (noon would be so much better) so time in the morning was at a premium. Anyway. The cottage was clean and nice but it all came with some catches. Ordinarily, these are small qualms. But this place is NOT cheap, and thus, there should not be some major catches. read more

Thanks to Yelp, and the kindness of the staff member who listened to my endless questions... I decided to book the Fanny Osborne cottage for 2 nights. Apparently, we were there on the slowest week of the season for them. Fine by me!! Night one we were one of two parties at the place - yay! I like quiet. Night two, we were joined by a troupe of traveling circus folk. (ok, not really... but a large party with lots of people staying at a couple of different cabins, including the other half of our duplex.) This made me bummed out a bit, because I was spoiled from the night before by serenity. ... but, it actually wasn't that bad noise-wise in the cottage. The next day, a really energetic woman was exercising her dogs in the park next to our cottage. While I admire her energy, I wasn't feeling the love there. So... while the place has lots of open space... be forewarned that they do allow dogs... and dog owners :) Great: Very comfortable cottage. We were in an updated unit. Bathroom was lovely. Bed was lovely. We had 2 flat screens, but our DVD player was wonky. The man with the flu thought it was a very nice place to be sick. ** I didn't smell any bad smells. Front desk guy was very nice Really cheap! Clean Within walking distance (although I wouldn't do it at night) to a 24 hr swanky supermarket (was it a Safeway? I don't know, but it looked new). Said supermarket part of a shopping complex which had some nice stores and a good restaurant contained therein! Really easy to drive to anything. I used it as a home base to go to Monterey, visit different vistas in Carmel, etc... They supplied dishes and silverware, refrigerator and microwave. Could be better: - A wet bar would have been nice. I felt kinda cheesy washing the dishes they supplied with body wash in the bathroom sink. I assumed, hopefully correctly, that staff would wash them for real after noticing that they had been used. But then again, maybe I should have washed them before we used them. - We arrived during a cold snap... and it was FREEZING the first night. The fireplace didn't really do it, and I'm embarrassed to say that fiance used the bathroom heater to get warm. He didn't want to change cabins though. - Staying there more nights! **(if anyone is reading my reviews... and getting the theme that I was traveling with someone with the flu, please be reassured that I tried to get him to stay home. I knew he was not fit for travel. Carmel River Inn consists of 1940's era cabins and a lodge. We stayed in a cabin, specifically #25. The room was clean and comfortable but maintenance was an issue (there were three or four condemned cabins nearly that I was told will be renovated some day). Problems include: 1. A rutted road. 2. An outside light that was supposed to illuminate a parking bumper near our cabin that was burned out - I tripped twice. (I know, I know - wasn't once enough?) 3. A microwave that didn't work at all. 4. A fan that went click-click-click. 5. A dirty TV channel list. 6. Exactly one wine glass. 7. A cracked coffee cup. Overlook the faults and you may enjoy a good night's sleep. And this room had a great view of a garden. You might find it an acceptable value but it's kind of creepy. read more

Great place to stay in Carmel, especially with a dog! We stayed in cottage #25, which was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and designed to be wheelchair accessible - not necessary for us, but made for more space to move around. We didn't wind up needing the gas fireplace, but it added to the classy and comfortable interior. They bed wasn't the best we've had, but for the price range it was ok. Everything was very clean. It's about a 35 minute walk to Ocean Ave, downtown Carmel, and the huge city beach (or a very short drive), perfect for exercising the dog. It's also a short walk to the Carmel River beach. We'll be back assuming we don't win the lottery, thus allowing us to buy some property in town. read more

I just loved our cottage! After a 6 hour drive, this place was like coming to a little home. We stayed in cottage #22- Sherman. Yes, its the smallest one but it was also cozy and the most private as well. Within 30 min of being in it, I already dozed off for an hour long nap. Also, knowing that we were there celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a bottle of champagne chilling in ice with 2 champagne glasses. We only stayed 1 night and we were so sad to leave in the morning. I really hope we can make it back some day. Additionally, free WiFi, pet friendly, and local to gas stations, pharmacy, restaurants, grocery stores, the Mission, and Carmel-by-the-Sea. **Just note, that when driving in from Big Sur, its very, very easy to pass. So as soon as you drive over the bridge, SLOW DOWN and its on your left. Oh, and one more thing, as we were leaving , we noticed that they have a deal that if you purchase Aquarium tickets from them its 2 for 1! Considering that its $40/person to get in, the 2 for 1 is a steal at $20/person. read more

I was in for a surprise when we pulled in to Carmel River Inn, Not at all what I was expecting or what was described to me over the phone but I didn't have a choice, the was no cancelling my 2 night reservation and I had to look on the plus side I was there for a friend's wedding. First in for most I stayed in a 2 bedroom "cottage" , with the smallest bathroom I have ever seen! I am 5'1 and could barely fit in the shower. if you were showering and used the toilet at the same time you got cold water. I think my bedroom at home was bigger than the entire "cottage" It was old, outdated, tv's were a joke. I felt like I was a motel..just plain ugly. WORST part is I woke up the next day with flea bites on my legs but worse than that my 5 yr old did as well. When I went to check out, the gentleman didn't really bother to say much, didn't ask how are stay was. So I took it upon myself to advise him of the flea bites and since I know it's a pet friendly hotel, I would assume they would want to know this, He looked at me like I had offended him. He gave me a half apology if you want to call it that. Lesson learned here is, you get what you pay for...I wish I would have spent an extra $100 bucks and stayed were the bridal party did. read more

We booked a cottage with two rooms for 5 people but when we show up there is only one room for 3 people and arguments. Clearly they were greedy in making bucks on Memorial Day season. I recently stayed here with Jonathan D. for our two year anniversary. We stayed in the Edward Ricketts Duplex Cottage. Originally we wanted the John Steinbeck Cottage, but someone booked it before us. Our room is ADA accessible which was fine. There is no bathtub though, but there's a huge shower. We brought our puppy Shylah with us and she LOVED it. She had so much fun running around the room, sitting in front of the fireplace, and going out on the porch. They also gave our dog her own little gift set with a dog bowl, treats, and toy. The Edward Ricketts Duplex Cottage was very comfortable, spacious, and clean. It was worth it paying more for a remodeled room. Carmel River Inn is near Monterey Bay, Carmel by the Sea, Shopping Centers, and beaches. We had a very pleasant stay at Carmel River Inn. Beware of mosquitoes and spiders outside of the cottages! read more

We stayed at the Carmel River Inn over the NYE weekend. It was last minute and I wasn't having much luck looking for a dog friendly place until I came across the Carmel River Inn. They are VERY dog friendly! for 20 bucks a night you can bring your 4 legged family member. They give you a food/water dish, doggie cookies, poop bags and a Coastal Canine Magazine. Our room was 105 per night on Hotels.com for a King room in the Inn part of the place. The Inn is on 10 acres which consists of a motel type structure with about 18 rooms, and several cabins spread around the property. The gardens are very nice, they have a pool and a dog washing area. The front desk staff was very nice, provided us with a map of Carmel and well as a list of dog friendly things around town. The room was nice, better that I was expecting from the exterior of the Inn. Bed was comfy, the room was clean and well equipped with towels and toiletries. The furniture was cool, looked like it belonged in a long cabin. The room was upstairs and it had vaulted ceilings and a balcony. The only weird thing was the walls that separate the balconies don't go all the way to the railing, they're about a foot short. So someone could (if they wanted to) walk from balcony to balcony. AND if you have a dog, it can get onto the other balconies, which is a little weird. But it was fine for us. The Inn building is close to Hwy 1 which I didn't mind, but if you don't want to hear vehicles then get a cabin. The cabins looked swell! They were booked but we will be back and will get a cabin. Some have little fenced yards and patio furniture out front! They are a good distance from each other which is nice. It's quiet and quaint back there and seems like a great place for a relaxing getaway. The location was good if you want to be a little away from the city centre which we were looking for. We were looking to get the hell away from everyone and all the Christmas holiday family drama. It's close to the Barnyard center you can walk to it. It has a good breakfast place called From Scratch where you can have your dog on the patio. There's a good pub called Flannigan's I believe, right there too. And a mediocre mexican joint. There's also a Safeway and CVS and pretty much anything you'd need and you can walk to it. I should say you can walk to it, but it doesn't mean you should, at least at nights. There are no sidewalks and it's dark as hell so bring a flashlight. But if you want to get your drink on at the pub it's nice to know you can walk, ya know? *wink wink* We took our dog to the beach which was awesome. Off leash, she ran and ran and loved it! Lots of dogs, beautiful beach, it was awesome. We will definitely be back to the Carmel River Inn! I didn't see a river, though the brochure shows one? WTF? Great place to stay if you are looking for a romantic out of the way spot. We stayed in the Jose Castro cabin and it was super cute!!! They are remodeling some of the cabins so I would recommend finding out if the cabin you are booking is remodeled or not. The non remodeled cabins seam VERY small. We just got back from a weekend at the Carmel River Inn and it was fantastic! This trip was for our 5 year wedding anniversary, and I let them know that when I made our reservation. We reserved the Fannie Osborne duplex, which had a king bed, flat screen tv, and gas fireplace. They told me there was one other they'd recommend, but it was taken already. That was the same as Fannie Osborne, but had a whirlpool tub for two. Well, when we arrived, we weren't sure what to expect. The cabins don't look fancy or new from the outside. And, I was sent to the wrong cabin... or so I thought. Turned out they upgraded us for free to the Steinbeck duplex, which was the one with the whirlpool tub for two! And, shortly after our arrival, there was a knock at the door... they had sent over complimentary champagne with a hand-written note wishing us a Happy Anniversary! Color me impressed! The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. It had a little private patio, and the grounds were quite nice. The only "negative" I would say is that the hot water eventually would run out while filling the large tub. It was warm enough to enjoy, but not as hot as I'd like. The hot water did not run out during the shower. I did not have high expectations of this cabin. I had hoped it would be comfortable and clean, but it was much more than that and I would definitely stay at this property again. The location was convenient, and the service was excellent. One restaurant tip: we enjoyed dinner at Will's Fargo which is 11 miles away in Carmel Valley. We did NOT enjoy dinner at the Hog's Breath Inn in Carmel. read more

Me and my boyfriend stayed here last week for our anniversary and it was wonderful! We had the Osborne room #30 and it was cute and cozy. We had a mini fridge and a tub which was a big plus. People at the front desk were really nice. The hammock outside was awesome along with our outside table. Very good location as well. Why HELLO cute cute inn. First of all, the GPS in the car led us slightly astray...but it seems it happens to everyone. They thoughtfully included instructions for people who also had similar fates. We made it with the help of their instructions to the inn. The Boy checked us in and then we rode up to our cabin 32 I believe. It was late at night but it was adorable. Had a fireplace outside of the cottage, as well as a cute little sitting area. I really wished we had arrived in the daytime to make the most of it. As we peeked inside then went back to get our bags from the car, this conversation ensued. The Boy: Is that a frog? me: What? You're joking (as he often is) The Boy: I think it's a real frog. me: NOOOOOOOOOOO. Anyway, The Boy, got rid of the frog pretty quickly. But it was hilarious and matched the cottage feel. If this was camping, I'd be so excited. There was a fireplace inside the cottage and we lit it. The shower water pressure was great. And oddly enough, the toilet REALLY sucked but not in a bad way. It literally sucked. I'd love to come back here when 1) its warmer and 2) we had more daytime hours. We will be back CRI! Hopefully we won't encounter Mr. Frog again. read more

This is the perfect place to stay in Carmel without spending a fortune. It's just south of town, right off Hwy 1, across from a large shopping center with a Safeway and any other necessities you'd need if you were staying for awhile. I reserved the Fremont duplex, needing a pet-friendly room. When I arrived, I was upgraded to the Junipero Serra cottage automatically. I had a cottage seriously the size of my apartment, with a small but full kitchen (no stove, but normal sized fridge, table, shelves w/ kitchenware, microwave, toaster and coffeepot WITH GRINDER!), a nice clean bathroom (shower only) and separate living room and bedroom areas. The fireplace rocked! I've never built a fire in my life, but they give you these packets of easy-burn stuff and off I went, burning things! The bed was super comfy. There IS wireless in the cottages and it worked great. At check in, the girl at the desk (bad me, forgot her name) gave me a ton of info about pet friendly restaurants and what to see. She also called about 10 minutes after I got settled to make sure everything was ok. Top notch service. My only (very minor) complaints were a slightly musty, fireplacey smell - time to replace the oldish carpet in that cottage, and an older model tv, which really wasn't a big deal at all. It still worked great. I would absolutely stay here again for less than $100/night it was unbeatable! read more

I can't say that I love this inn but I can't say that I completely hated it either. But I will say this: I have never, ever, ever, had such difficulty finding a happy medium with my shower water temperature before until I lodged at Carmel River Inn. Turning the knob just a millimeter will turn your water from lukewarm to scorching hot. Have you ever showered while someone was occupying the toilet and when they flushed your water temperature suddenly changed? Well here at Carmel River Inn you know when other lodgers have either done the #1 or #2 because once they flush and if you happen to be showering in your room your water pressure and temperature will suddenly change. That's definitely an eye opener in the morning for sure. We weren't lucky enough to get the renovated rooms and so we were stuck with tables caving in from bearing the heavy weight of the old school tv and a very dirty dog who just couldn't resist climbing under the bed. The bathroom definitely could use a little help. I did like the inn's privacy. It's isolated from busy streets so the only thing you could hear at night were the crickets chirping outside. It was such a cute little place, it was quiet, comfy and clean. That's pretty much what i'm looking for in a hotel. the property itself was well kept and definitely take around the secret garden before you leave and chill on the hammocks for a while. They even provided us with plates and utensils in our room so we were able to make good use out of the microwave. We were able to have a picnic dinner in our room instead of spending money on a dinner out. After we left, I realized that I left my pillows that I brought from home there and when I called them, Housekeeping had already brought it to the front desk and are waiting for me to pick them up. They will kindly keep it for 2 months for me and so now I have an excuse to make another trip back. read more

Had a lovely stay at the Carmel River Inn. This was our dog's first overnight (2 night) vacation. Since she is nervous and sensitive to sounds, I reserved a cottage (# 25 Ricketts) thinking that it would be less stressful than staying in a large building. The cottage is nice and fresh. It is ADA accessible so it has a fairly large bathroom with a shower stall. Amenities include a flat screen TV, DVD player, gas fireplace (weather was too nice to use), mini frig, microwave, coffee maker, and fenced patio. The fenced patio came in handy so my dog could hang out outside. The CRI grounds are pretty -- lots of trees, greenery, and flowers in bloom -- just gorgeous and tranquil. The downsides: (1) There is no dresser in the room. There is one small shelf in the closet and the closet rod isn't at full height. (2) Only one tiny window had a screen, the others did not. Leaving windows or doors open for ventilation let in bugs and mosquitoes, which is to be expected cause of the greenery. (There is no AC, but there is a ceiling fan.) (3) This cottage is a duplex and although we didn't hear the occupants living next door, we did hear their door open/close often. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would consider renting a cottage again at CRI. read more

We arrived to check into our cabin & were told that we weren't getting a cabin and instead were given a motel like room. This was a big disappoinment. We went out of our way on a road trip to stay in the cabins we read about in a travel guide. Note: if you book via expedia.com or another service be sure you call the Inn directly after & request a cabin. When we got into the room it smelt like citrus carpet cleaner, like your head is in a bottle of it. I left the sliding door open all night & still woke up with a headache and left early to get away from the smell. I know this is a pet friendly room - but easy does it with chemical cleaners. So...this place is ok....if you're only staying a night or two. It's like a cross between a crappy hotel and an upscale motel. We stayed here over the first weekend of our spring break. PROS: *The room isn't really that bad. *The bed is comfortable. *It's got a fridge. *Furnished. *Good location -- close to the 1, yet quiet! 5 minutes from downtown. *Decently reasonable pricing....we stayed for about $100 a night. CONS: *Creepy office/pool/building as it looks from the outside *Somewhat hard to find -- make sure you turn onto Oliver from PCH and not via Mission Hills Rd *Overall...just..ehhh. Oh yeah baby! We just love this place. The cabin with the little back yard is so perfect for us and the boy. It's clean and quiet and private. Second stay was just as good if not better than the first. The ONLY thing that keeps this from getting 5-stars is the room deodorizer they use. Ugh, it's repulsive and chokes me. It's cloying, heavy and obnoxious. They were very nice and accommodating about it and did not use it the second day. advice: get the cottage! PRO: -the cottages are so cute and adorable and most of them are stand-alone little buildings. when you drive to your cottage, its like driving through a little village to your own little home! -there's 1-2 reserved parking spaces for each cottage. -inside the cottage, it is completely remodeled. comfortable, warm bed. little fireplace. TV is a little small, but not a big deal. big bathroom with tub and shower. 2 sinks in one long countertop. -tiny backyard patio with sitting area. not much to look at around the back, but whatever. -feels like living in a magazine's cottage layout. -we brought our dogs with us. the front desk left an adorable welcome package of free stuff: big sized dog treats (dogs LOVED it), dog bowl, dog chew toy (dogs LOVED it), flyers/coupons of nearby dog friendly restaurants and Pet Food Express branch with directions. everything was all very wonderful :). CON: -we walked the dogs out for a pee/poo walk and the door closed behind us! we had to walk all the way back to the front desk to get an extra key. -door locks are confusing. you have to unlock both and then sort of bang open the door to open the door. definitely frustrating. if the price is right, we will definitely stay here again. read more

This was a huge disappointment. The room was dirty. The hotel is so close to the main road that you can hear traffic noise all the time. The bathroom was gross and the sinks didn't drain. There was no air flow in the room because there were no fans. Only one light. A grungy mattress and dirty blankets. It does not look anything like the photos. read more

Wow! Could not believe how cute our cottage was (#21 Ohlone) with kitchenette. Very private with car port, facing a gorgeous garden with its own patio seating. We found a super great deal on their website after kayaking and hotel.com rates were more expensive. Super location - close to Carmel by the Sea, Carmel Valley, Monterey and Big Sur! Loved the hammocks, dog wash, beautiful gardens and landscaping. Watch out for the fridge...it really works - if you set it on MAX - it will FREEZE everything, including milk. Great little grinder/coffee maker. Even though this room was not one of the new ones - for the price and value it surely was top notch! All of the windows are original for this cottage and they actually open - what a concept! Bed was huge and the room was clean, water was hot. Loved the sound of crickets, owls and hummingbirds. Absolutely beautiful! Met lots of other friendly dog people! read more

Good sized room. Comfortable bed. Unfortunately the walls and the doors are paper thin. Nothing but noise all around me. I'm in a first floor room, what a mistake. I can hear every single step, toilet and door slam upstairs and next to me. Right now the people next to me are having a conversation with their child and it has not stopped screaming since they got here. The bathroom is small and the shower smaller with poor water pressure. Never staying here again. A motel 6 would have been quieter. Nothing they can do about these issue unless they remodeled the rooms and put in sound proofing. read more

We decided to stay in this comfy inn on our way up the Pacific Coast Highway. We were told to spend a couple of nights in Carmel as it is a nice place and it really is! The Inn is split between the main building (motel looking rooms) and cottages. We stayed in one of the cottages, in fact, they gave us the handicapped room and was huge! We had a huge bathroom and shower with a private balcony, coffee maker, fridge, champagne glasses, TV with great channel selection and comfy bed. We drove to the supermarket down the street and bought cereal and breakfast goodies. The main problem in our room was that the fireplace did not work. We had someone come to take a look at it and he could not get it to work either... bummer... anyway, it did not spoil our stay. Wireless is only available in rooms in the 'motel' (main) building. If you are staying in one of the cottages, you have to go to the front desk and get a key for their business center (a room with a conference table) and use your computer there. Pool is small and many kids playing. Rather drive out to the beach. The hotel does not have a restaurant or bar but many suggestions to good ones and even coupons for discounts (up to 20%) at restaurants in town are available from the front desk personnel. However, if you want to stay here, book one of the cottages, specially if you are going to spend a few days and like to take it easy and avoid the hotel/motel feel. I booked one of the cottages at Carmel River Inn based on Yelp reviews and the fact that they allowed dogs and were very affordable. The staff were amazing! They were so helpful suggesting things we could do locally and giving us directions. When we arrived into our cottages, shortly after they called to make sure everything was to our liking. Our first impression of the Sebastian Viscaino cottage we got is that while it was cute and rustic and had lots of light, it was a bit musty smelling and definitely not modernized (kitchen and bathroom most notable). The staff gave us keys to look at another cottage, one of the remodeled duplexes. It was much roomier and had a tub and private enclosed deck which led onto a large area of grass. It also had a fireplace. We asked how much more it would be and they said they'd upgrade us at no cost. Wonderful! But you know, the more we thought about it, the more we liked the charm of the other cottage. It had lots more light and a kitchen nook and a nice little porch, so we stuck with that one and were very happy. The grounds here are amazing as others have noted. Having a dog, it was nice to walk to the back area which led to the river bed. The river bed was dried up but there was a nice trail out there. They also had a dog bath area outside complete with shampoo. They also provided poop bags. We didn't use the pool because it was too cold but it would be nice to use in the summertime. One drawback was not being close to town. We thought we'd walk but it's just too dark at night and no sidewalks in a lot of areas makes it a danger with cars. The two local taxi companies did not answer when we called. Summing up, it's a great value and very private and a good jumping off point to Highway one and all of the sights to see around beautiful Carmel! read more

Wonderful place, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage was comfortable and pretty, lots of room for the dog to run around outside. There was even a doggy welcome kit with a bowl and toy for the pup, which was cute. Definitely coming back soon, and I would recommend it highly. FYI; There isn't a breakfast room, but there was a mini fridge, kettle and microwave in our room. We ate out anyway, why go on vacation and eat cereal out of a mini box? Yuck. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. The little cabin was nice and I really liked the fireplace. We stayed in an un-renovated cabin and it could use some updates but it has this sort of rustic charm to it. The kitchen is stocked with things you need like cups or bowls which was really nice. There is a small kitchen table that we used to play games on by the fire. We only paid $135 for a night and that included a $20 fee for our dog. I thought this was pretty reasonable given we had four adults and one child in the cabin. The bathroom could have been more clean. Other than that we liked it. Comfortable beds and a great setup for the price. read more
